Chapter 158

Chapter 158

Mark, Natasha the guard captain, and her guards and mages left the city late in the afternoon. He was glad that because of the horse that was assigned to him, he didn’t cause much delay in their travel and after a couple of hours, Mark thought that he was getting the hang of it.

When they stopped for a few minutes break to rest the mounts, Mark asked Natasha if he was beginning to look like a horseman and the guard captain smiled and said to him he was getting there.

“Ahh the power of love, making your beloved lie to your face to spare you the humiliation of saying your incompetency to your face.” Lossa, one of the mages commented when they’d overheard Mark and Natasha’s conversation.

“Please don’t mind Lossa, Lord Mark. He’s like that with everyone even to his teachers and parents.” Ardeen, the other mage, apologized.

“It’s all right. If it’s not me, I wouldn’t believe it as well. It’s just that I’ve never learned riding mounts since where I’m from, we have magic devices that we use for travel.”

Natasha and the mages were suddenly interested in where Mark came from and if people had magic technology for regular transportation.

“And where would that be if I may ask?” Lossa sat down beside Mark and Natasha with Ardeen joining them.

“I really don’t know how to translate it into your language. As you know, I’m not really speaking the local language, just using the spell Comprehend Language to speak to the local people. I have teachers though so in a short while, I should be able to converse without using the spell.”

Natasha was listening but she already knew that since whenever they were with each other, they would talk about lots of things aside from making sure that his bed was well-used.

“I don’t even know to which direction it was since our wizard used a teleportation spell to let us travel to this land. It’s just that there was some sort of accident and I got separated from them, but I don’t want to join them again since I want to travel these lands and I have no more relatives to go back to.” Mark continued.

“Thanks for the information, Lord Mark.”

“Just call me Mark, please. I’m not a noble.”

Natasha and the two mages laughed when they heard that.

“In these lands, being a mage entitled you to be called a lord.”

“I see. So should I call you Lord Lossa and Lord Ardeen?”

“It’s a mouthful, isn’t it? Usually, we dispense with the formality between mages or between friends, and of course, we welcome you as a friend.” Ardeen said and Lossa smiled.

Several minutes passed and the group continued with their travel. It was really cold, and Mark was glad that his stats allowed him to enjoy the travel without suffering too much.

The east road was filled with evergreen trees on the left side a wilderness on the right side. Mark could see several smoke rising in the distance and Natasha informed him that those were farmhouses or small villages.

They arrived at their first campsite when evening arrived. They were only able to continue because the mages cast some light spells that allowed them to see, and Natasha commented that it was one of the reasons why mages are highly desirable traveling companions.

The mounts were then tied to one section of the camp and Mark was waiting for what the mages would do. He was wondering if they would summon or conjure a house for them to stay.

Mark did have a level twenty spell called Space Shelter from the Space and Void Chanceller skill tree and Earth Shelter, a level ten Earth Mage spell from the Gaia’s Disciple skill tree.

When he saw that everyone was preparing tents, even the mages, Mark asked them if they had a spell that would allow them to summon a temporary shelter and Ardeen admitted that they were only second-circle mages.

Mark didn’t want to sleep in a tent since it was really cold and having all his resources, he got used to the luxury of his power. He decided to put three skill points to Space Shelter since Earth Shelter would need more points.

Space Shelter’s description said that it would allow him to construct a shelter made from void energy just like the space tower. The level three Space Shelter would allow him to construct a shelter thirty feet by thirty feet in size and it had a three hundred defense, but the spell was geared toward utility not combat.

The good thing about the spell was, on initial casting, he could design what the shelter would look like, but the MP cost would increase depending on the duration he would like the shelter to have. The initial cost was fifty MP.

He could use his RV instead of bothering with the spell, but he knew that sooner or later he would need this particular spell anyway and the RV might cause a commotion since it could be too alien for these people.

Mark informed Natasha that he would like to check something in the trees and the guard captain just said to be careful even though their current location was safe. When he was alone, he cast the Space Shelter skill and an interface actually appeared that would allow him to design it just like the Sims game on a computer. He wondered again at the power and complexity of his system.

Mark designed the shelter simply. Since it was thirty feet by thirty feet, it was large enough for traveling purposes. The first thing he did was to make the shelter opaque so no one could see from outside. He then separated the Space Shelter into four rooms. Two bedrooms, one restroom, and a common room that could serve as the kitchen and dining room.

The spell was complex enough that it allowed him to design some windows, doors, and fireplaces. It was a good thing that his inventory had all the necessary equipment to make sure that the shelter would have a complete set of furniture. He even had wood that could serve as fuel for the fireplace and porta potty that he could put on the restroom as well as a tank of water that could serve them for showers or a bath.

Mark thought that casting the spell would be confusing for the others and the complexity of it was a bit much, so he decided to just prepare a tent for this evening and continue designing the Shelter. He would also need to do some tastings like for example, what would happen to the things that he would put inside once he dispels the skill, or the shelter was destroyed.

The description did say that everything put inside would automatically return to his inventory and would be brought back to the Shelter once he cast the spell again. Mark was really impressed by the skill power and complexity. However, due to its complexity, Mark thought that the RV would just be better since he did have one of those costly large RVs with complete facilities.

Mark had an inkling that the spell would largely be unused since he decided then and there that for now, the RV would be the better choice, and again, its strangeness could be attributed to him being a wizard and a foreigner. It was still nice to play with the Space Shelter though since it was like the Sims.

Mark knew that he decided earlier to use a tent but the cold deterred him from doing that and just decided to use his RV.
