Mark completed memorizing the spell Minor Illusion in his bedroom. He would have liked to test it out and study his new interface more, but it was late, and he was sleepy, so he rested first and decided to continue the next day.
Just like yesterday, one of the twins knocked on Mark’s door loudly with accompanying shouts and he remembered that kids that age didn’t have any sort of filters or low volume. A healthy child would almost always be honest and very loud. That’s what he believed in since that was what his mother kept telling him when he was a child, and he was happy that the twins were unfettered since to him it signified that they were comfortable enough with him to be that way.
“I’m up!” Mark yelled back.
“You have to hurry! We’re about to leave!” Isaac yelled again.
He opened the door and told the kid that he would be ready once he used the bathroom, and the kid ran outside the RV. After a while, Mark kept the Recreational Vehicle in his inventory and joined everyone in the cart. Once the caravan started to move, their cart followed along.
It had been a few days already, but Mark could still feel the excitement of the journey and he was glad that he was a part of it all. If the schedule was true, they should arrive in the next village tomorrow.
The twins were singing nonsensical songs about becoming pirates tomorrow and even Milena had a smile on her face while Nedertu concentrated on driving the Zzourta. Mark liked the lizard animal since although it looked ferocious, it was very docile like a cow.
“Nedertu are all Zzourta like that, very tame?”
“Mostly. The ones in the wild are also docile but they would hit back if they were threatened but only predators threatened them, and they don’t consider humans as predators. I think they look at us like brothers but another species. It’s weird.”
“We named him Yoda!” Isaac said when he heard Mark talking about the Zzourta.
“Yoda! Yoda is small and very powerful,” Mark said.
“The Zzourta looked like Yoda somewhat if you squint your eyes really small,” Aaron added which made Mark laugh.
After a while, the boys settled down and talked to each other and Milena went back to reading her book. Mark checked his system interface regarding the new spell.
Mark’s plan was to add all of his skill points to his spells, but he was distracted by the new magic system. The potential of him learning different types of spells that could be used for utility and all types of situations was seductive. Although his spells were powerful, there was no denying that they were mostly geared towards battle that was why he wanted to learn the magic of this world since it would allow him to explore different possibilities.

Looking at his interface, he saw that the five boxes under Cantrips were all available. Prestidigitation was already available and ready to be cast anytime on the first box and the other four boxes were empty. He mentally clicked on the first box again and there were two spells listed, the first one he learned which was Prestidigitation, and the second one which was Minor Illusion.
He replaced Prestidigitation on the first box with Minor Illusion and put the same spell on the second box.
“Hey guys I’m about to cast a minor illusion spell twice to check its effect. It’s just a cantrip so I don’t think it would be dangerous, but it would cause a minor distraction at best,” Mark told everyone.
From what he remembered from the description in the book, the Minor Illusion spell would cause distraction, obscurement, Blockade, Intimidation, Communication Aid, or Diversionary Target. The book also clearly defined the verbal and gesture components needed for the spell but the greatest aid his system gave him about the magic spells of this world was it dispensed with the components, and he would only need to mentally cast the spell and it would go on cooldown on his interface.
Mark cast the spell in the area in front of him intending to use the spell to create an image. Everyone reacted when the spell was cast with everyone staring at something in front of them. After a while, the image disappeared.
“What did you see?” Mark asked everyone.
“I saw a toy spaceship flying in front of us!” Isaac said.
“I saw Yoda floating!” Aaron added.
“I saw a dead relative,” Melina mentioned to Mark while Nedertu was not distracted at all since he was focused on driving the Zzourta and he was warned by Mark about the spell.
“Okay thank you all. I will need to cast again so if you don’t want to be distracted just close your eyes a bit.”
Mark then cast the spell Minor Illusion again and checked his interface. He saw that the two boxes under Cantrips were on cooldown, and he saw that they had different cooldown times. He checked the third box and saw that the two spells Prestidigitation and Minor Illusion were available. He put Prestidigitation on the three remaining boxes and then he prepared to study the last spell book cantrip that he received from the sisters which was the techno-magic On/Off spell.
Based on the description of the book the spell would allow him to turn on or off all technological devices that he intended to use the spell on, and he wondered if it would work on his equipment.
Mark began studying the spell book before he realized that he shouldn’t have done that since when he was interrupted the night before he received a backlash, but he forgot. It was a good thing that the twins were busy playing by themselves, and Milena was still reading her book, so he was able to memorize the spell without anyone distracting him.
He then checked his interface and saw that all the boxes under Cantrips were ready again, so he mentally clicked one of them and saw that three spells were already available which were Prestidigitation, Minor Illusion, and On/Off spells. He put the three spells on three boxes and Prestidigitation on the remaining two boxes.
Mark felt that he was now ready to learn level one spells so he decided to mention it to the sisters when they stopped tomorrow at the next village. He planned to tell them while they were in his Oasis on the twenty-first floor of his dungeon for their vacation.
