Chapter 989

Chapter 989: 307. Shadows Surge_3

Noland Lee suppressed the regret in his heart and went over to where the shadow pupa cocoon had vanished, bending down to investigate.

Together, there were a total of four shadow pupa cocoons, and when they turned into black smoke, they all moved downward.

Noland Lee was certain of this.

He took out five Ground Drilling Mechanisms and controlled them to drill down from five different directions.

The movement speed of the Ground Drilling Mechanisms was a bit faster than that of the Rock Spirit.

About 3 minutes later, the fastest Ground Drilling Mechanism reached a depth of 150 meters.

...

“Sshhh… creak creak…”

Here it comes, here it comes.

The noise from the shadow pupa cocoons came again.

Noland Lee stopped controlling the other four Ground Drilling Mechanisms and focused on the one that had heard the noise.

He followed the sound and directed the Ground Drilling Mechanism forward.

“Splash~”

The drill bit through nothing, and a round hole appeared in the wall within his Magic Vision.

Also appearing were three shadow pupa cocoons, flickering with a dim glow.

Noland Lee was slightly excited for half a second.

He turned to look at the Rock Spirit and quickly thought things through.

“With ‘Mental Shield’ and ‘Silent Shield’ in place, the combat difficulty of the shadow pupa cocoons isn’t high. In that case, the Rock Spirit can rest for a while.”

Noland Lee snapped his fingers, canceling the “Stone Spirit Summoning Spell.”

He cast “Death Flight,” transforming into a slender black ribbon of light, and slipped into the narrow hole left by the Ground Drilling Mechanism.

Gliding through the circular tunnel, Noland Lee quickly arrived in front of the shadow pupa cocoons.

By now, the Ground Drilling Mechanism was nearly destroyed by the shadow pupa cocoons.

It turned into a pool of black sludge, accumulated on the ground, its surface covered with black bubbles, emitting a foul smell.

As Noland Lee arrived, one of the shadow pupa cocoons happened to suck in the sludge.

Without a word, Noland Lee raised his hand and swept out with his sword.

Silent power surged from the tip of the sword, forming a gray arc-shaped disembodied wave of mana, swiftly passing through the body of the shadow pupa cocoon.

This time, Noland Lee found the right angle and swept across two shadow pupa cocoons with the gray light arc at once.

“Pfft… pfft…”

Two tearing sounds sounded at the same time, and dark sludge splattered everywhere.

Noland Lee didn’t throw out “Tracking Mark,” but instead squeezed his left hand in front of his body and used the Earth Magic he had for a while but seldom utilized.

“Rock Restraint!”

Brown rock energy appeared out of nowhere near the dark sludge, rapidly weaving a rock cage that hindered teleportation and movement.

“Clang clang clang…”

Several crisp sounds in succession, the bars and frames of the rock cage connected, forming an enclosed space that cut off all escape routes for the dark sludge.

The dark sludge, which should have turned into black smoke and drilled into the ground, was now scurrying around like a headless fly within the rock cage.

“Good, good, now I’ve caught pieces of your bodies.”

Noland Lee thought gloatingly, casting an “I’m going to kill you” thought towards the only remaining shadow pupa cocoon on the scene.

It was only at this moment that Noland Lee developed an intention to kill.

This triggered the “Intention of killing perception.”

The shadow pupa cocoon turned into smoke and vanished from before Noland Lee’s eyes.

Around Noland Lee, no longer were there any threats to his safety.

Noland Lee gazed steadily at the rock cage.

The dark sludge inside maintained a restless posture, but it was never able to break through the rock cage’s blockade.

The Deconstruction Technique feedback displayed that the so-called “body fragments” were actually the corpses of Shadow Demons, which could be ignited by “Evil Blast.”

Noland Lee nodded in satisfaction, knowing he now had a notably powerful card up his sleeve.

He took out his pen and paper and wrote a letter to Professor Erica, asking some questions.

Shadow spells, shadow creatures, shadow magical items – anything related to “shadow” was considered a dangerous entity within the Ulnas Circle.

According to statistics from the Wizard Enforcement Department, at least five out of ten wizard criminals causing trouble on the Kashel Continent mastered shadow magic.

It became an almost universally accepted truth in the realm of shadow magic that indulging in the negative emotions tied to it would lead to a downfall into wizard criminality.

The Silent Maiden was said to have some experience dealing with shadow magic.

Now, Noland was writing to Erica to ask how to use the fragments of a shadow creature’s body to locate the position of a shadow array.

Considering the current situation, that shadow array was likely set up by a wizard criminal.

After sending off the letter, Noland approached the rock cage, observing the black slime inside while waiting for a reply.

“Shasha sha… kakaka ka…”

Noise came through again.

Noland listened carefully; it wasn’t coming from within the rock cage.

He looked down at his feet, which was where the sound originated.

“Shasha sha. Kakaka ka.”

The noise, clearer now, gradually approached, headed directly for Noland.

Noland raised an eyebrow, silently chanting in his mind, “I want to kill you, I want to kill you, I want to kill you.”

A strong intent to kill bloomed within Noland’s heart.

Yet, the noise did not disappear; instead, it hurried towards him even faster.

“Shasha sha! Kakaka ka!”

The noise suddenly amplified, as if it was right beside his ear!

Noland’s heart skipped a beat, alarm bells ringing – he knew something was amiss.

What approached was likely not the timid shadow pupa cocoon but some other shadow creature! noveldrama

And Noland was right!

Several black figures, like agile cheetahs, sprang up from the ground and came to a steady stop near Noland, forming a circle around him.

“Shasha sha!! Kakaka ka!!”

The near-mad cacophony exploded in the underground space, clearly emanating from these creatures.

“What are these things??”

In his right hand, Noland held the Sword of Silence, and in his left hand, he fetched a magic orb, cradling it in his palm.

Bright thunder and lightning radiated from within the orb, illuminating the entire underground space.

The grotesque appearance of the monsters was revealed before Noland’s eyes.

They resembled centipedes with numerous legs, about the size of slim, wild coyotes, pitch-black, made entirely of dense shadow energy.

A row of spikes protruded upward along the creatures’ backs, at the spine, with charred heads hanging from the spikes.

These heads wore expressions of agony, eyes pitch-black, mouths wide in a silent scream as if condemned to never rest in peace.

This horrific sight made Noland’s scalp tingle slightly.

He immediately launched a Deconstruction.

[System Message:]

[You have consumed 2,600,000 Energy Points to initiate Harmless Deconstruction on “Crawling Fear.”]

“Crawling Fear…”

Noland quickly scanned the statistics on the enemy’s panel.

Crawling Fear possessed “shadow transfer” but lacked “intention of killing perception.”

Moreover, their Combat Level on land reached the standard of Level 50, higher than that of the shadow pupa cocoon.

This meant that Crawling Fear was a combat-oriented shadow creature, not like the shadow pupa cocoon, which was focused solely on devouring and decomposing life creatures.

“It seems the shadow creatures and the shadow magic array I’m tracking have formed a complete system. The shadow creatures have distinct roles, each with its particular duty. Is this man-made, or did it form naturally among the shadow creatures…”

Noland steadied his mind and faced off against the nightmares before him.

Perhaps afraid of the silent power he possessed, the five Crawling Fears surrounding him did not attack at first.
