Chapter 1182: 369. Misleading Double Connect_3
The Assassin Angel had expended too much energy concealing his tracks.
He behaved like a thief ready to flee the island, flying upwards while drawing out his magic wand to point toward the heavens, attempting to open a Teleportation Gate to an unknown destination.
His posture was somewhat frantic and impatient, yet he never managed to open the Teleportation Gate in the night sky, as if waiting for something to arrive.
The actions of the Assassin Angel were related to the alternative plan he and Noland Lee had discussed earlier today.
The Assassin Angel was well aware that a Metal Ancestor Dragon, actually entering the Inner Cosmos in its true form, could easily find the thief’s whereabouts.
It was absolutely necessary to mislead the Metal Ancestor Dragon, causing deviations in its investigative direction, to buy enough time for Noland Lee to proceed with the next Ceremony.
...
This meant that the Assassin Angel had to craft a false image of the thief, one convincing enough for the Metal Ancestor Dragon to believe it was the actual appearance of the thief.
The Assassin Angel soon thought of a deity he had once secretly spied upon for a long time—the Shadow Executioner.
This was a deity of the Dark Deities, specially responsible for execution and torture, targeting other members of the dark faction and had once been the sharpest dagger under the rule of the Lord of the Dark Gods, the King of Shadows.
Similar to the Assassin Angel, the real Shadow Executioner also possessed Extraordinary Abilities such as invisibility, assassination, and theft.
His current form was a vague purple-grey haze.
Within the mist was a strange shifting silhouette.
The silhouette was clad in spiked armor, and one glance at him generated a painful sensation as if long needles pierced one’s eyes.
This was the unchanging appearance of the Shadow Executioner, one that had never altered.
The Assassin Angel knew this deity quite well, making it relatively easy for him to mimic.
This was just one reason why the Assassin Angel decided to disguise himself as the Shadow Executioner.
Another important reason was that the Shadow Executioner had fallen out with his master, the King of Shadows, who was very wary of the former’s capabilities.
In the memory of the Assassin Angel, a very long time ago, the Shadow Executioner had been relocated from the Inner Cosmos to the Barren Universe by the King of Shadows, becoming one of the fierce warriors guarding the frontier of the Star Palace.
The two of them became enemies over a particular incident.
What that incident was, the Assassin Angel did not tell Noland Lee; he only assured Noland Lee that he could definitely use the façade of the Shadow Executioner to secure precious time for him.
However, whether this method would work as intended would still depend on whether the Metal Ancestor Dragon was as suspicious as ever.
“Buzz, buzz, buzz————”
An inexplicable vibration emanated from the sky behind.
The Assassin Angel turned his head to look toward the land.
The night sky there was still tranquil and profound, but the Assassin Angel felt the metallic essence hidden beneath the Night Curtain.
Crowded invisible sound waves descended from above, stirring up the soil on the ground level, rolling up the sea surface touched by the evening wind, and raising waves several meters high.
In the midst of it all, the Assassin Angel sensed a pair of eyes, staring at him from behind the transparent iron curtain high above.
You’ve finally come, Tarsali, I didn’t expect the first familiar face I’d see after waking up to be yours.
The upward flight of the Assassin Angel suddenly paused, then he shifted sideways at a speed akin to lightning. noveldrama
“Swoosh——”
Deep Sea Mist suddenly appeared, covering the Assassin Angel’s figure in an instant and blocking the probing from behind the iron curtain.
“Roar——”
A low, angry roar of a Giant Dragon erupted over the surface of the sea at night.
Blasts of air and sound waves originated from the iron curtain, continuously assaulting the Deep Sea Mist, yet unable to disturb the eerie mist in the slightest.
Within the mist, the Assassin Angel heard the muffled roars of the Giant Dragon.
He looked around, his gaze sweeping through the greyish mist, reminiscent of some past trivial matter.
After hovering briefly in the air, he threw the Gem Box he held toward the sea surface.
“Plop.”
The box fell into the water and sank towards the seabed.
In just about five minutes, both the box and the gems inside were tortured into debris by the seawater’s pressure and corrosiveness.
The figure of the Assassin Angel gradually faded, melting away like the winter snow on a sunny day.
