Chapter 1189: 372. Am I a genius?_2
Having drunk the Oblivion Potion and forgotten the relevant memories, even if the Pure Light Court utilized a memory-searching spell, they wouldn’t find any clues on him.
Morster did have some experience in this area.
After patiently listening to Lamont’s words, he lit himself a cigarette, and while smoking, said,
“I think I have a clear idea of what happened. I regret the losses suffered by the Pure Light Court. However, though I am a wizard of the Earth Vein Pillar, I only possess the strength of a Third-Circle wizard, and here in the Land of Revival, I’m merely responsible for the internal military affairs of the Empire. I’m afraid I won’t be much help to the Pure Light Court.”
Morster slowly exhaled a cloud of smoke.
“Or perhaps, you believe the Death Herald Guild and the Undead Cult planned this incident. If that’s the case, I can indeed share some recent intelligence from the Military Intelligence Section Two.”
...
Seeing Morster’s frank attitude, Lamont smiled and said,
“We do indeed wish to request a report of intelligence from Military Intelligence Section Two. We would like to know in which locations members of the Undead Cult have recently been detected. Of course, we’re also interested in the movements of the Death Herald Guild, even though they are wizards of the Ulnas Circle.”
“Sure, no problem. Please wait here for a moment. I’ll have the documents brought to you once they’re ready outside.”
Morster knocked on the tabletop with his knuckles and mumbled a few words into the metallic horn.
This horn was a speaking tube; when activated, it could transmit his orders to the clerk’s office next door.
Having arranged for the documents to be sorted, Morster leaned back in his chair and asked,
“Anything else?”
Lamont exchanged glances with his companion, their eyes conveying a challenging smile as he said,
“We need to ask you a few questions. As you answer, my companion will cast a detection spell to verify the truthfulness of your answers. Of course, you’re not a Sin Witch. You have the right to refuse. We won’t insist.”
Morster laughed as if he’d heard a joke,
“Forget it, Lamont. I’m somewhat familiar with the way your Pure Light Court operates. Perhaps if I refuse now, it won’t be long before you’ll come with an Investigation Order and take me to the court for interrogation.”
Morster waved his hand dismissively at the awkwardly smiling Lamont,
“Ask away then. Time is precious for both of us.”
“Let’s begin then,” Lamont signaled to his companion with a look.
The two Light Wizards seated beside Lamont stood up, drew their ivory white wands, and cast a luminous spell that filled the room with golden light.
Suddenly, many golden-white light spots floated in the air around the office.
Lamont sat upright in his chair and asked Morster,
“Please recount the events you’ve experienced over the past seven days, in chronological order, starting from the most distant to the most recent. Make sure to be precise and as detailed as possible.”
Morster, cigarette in hand and with a steady tone, replied,
“There’s not much to say about my affairs. I’ve spent my days either working here or meditating in my room. But since you’ve asked, I will certainly provide you with a definite response. Let me think carefully…”
“Huh~”
Morster exhaled smoke, beginning his anecdote from seven days prior.
After a full hour had passed, Morster had finished recounting his activities.
The small floating light spots showed no anomalies.
Lamont’s companion gave him a slight nod, indicating that Morster had not lied.
Lamont himself possessed “Lie Perception.”
Throughout, he did not hear the symbolic bell that indicated the other party was lying.
However, this did not mean Morster was without issue.
The fact that the detection spell and “Lie Perception” detected nothing simply meant that what Morster said was true; it did not mean he hadn’t deliberately omitted anything.
Therefore, Lamont asked,
“Did you omit any information?”
Morster shrugged,
“Of course. Some issues involve the royal palace, you know what I mean. I can’t possibly spill all my father’s affairs, right?”
Lamont still did not hear the bell.
He continued,
“Does the information you withheld pertain to the theft case?”
Morster rubbed his chin, realizing that Lamont was more tenacious than he thought and that he needed to offer something to deflect the suspicion or sooner or later they would unearth the fact he’d taken an Oblivion Potion.
“I’m not certain if it’s related to the theft case,” Morster tapped off some ash from his cigarette,
“How about this, I’ll take out the object in question and you can make a judgment for yourself?”
“Please.” Lamont gestured with his hand.
Morster pulled open a drawer, took out a file bag, and placed it on the table, spilling out the photographs.
The photos displayed mysterious patterns smeared on the walls and floors.
“Some of my brothers and sisters have defected to the Undead Cult. My investigators found these strange patterns in their homes.”
Morster prodded the photographs with his fingertip:
“These documents involve my father’s scandal, so please forgive me for having kept that hidden just now.”
Lamont picked up a photograph to look at it and casually asked:
“Have you shown these photos to anyone else?”
“Other people? Do you mean anyone besides the Military Intelligence Section Two investigators responsible for looking into these patterns? My answer is no. Only I and a very few investigators have seen these photos.”
Morster’s answer did not ring any alarm bells for Lamont.
Lamont stacked the photos he had finished looking at and stuffed them back into the file bag.
He pondered for a few seconds, then said:
“Morster, I have one last question.”
“Ask away.” Morster couldn’t help but feel his heartbeat quicken.
“Have you recently taken an Oblivion Potion?”
Upon hearing this question, Morster’s Adam’s apple instinctively bobbed due to a surge of nervousness, but he managed to control it in time.
“No. I haven’t taken any such thing.”
After answering, Morster glanced surreptitiously at the specks of light in the air.
The golden-white specks remained as usual, showing no change.
This made Morster wonder: Were these light specks used for detecting lies fake?
Or could it be that his skill at lying had become so advanced that it could deceive detection spells?
Lamont paid little heed to Morster’s reaction, as he was carefully sensing his own Extraordinary Abilities. noveldrama
“Lie Perception,” still no warnings were issued.
Morster had not lied.
So it seemed that this high-ranking Third-Ring Wizard in the Empire was indeed irrelevant to the theft…
Lamont signaled his companion to cancel the spell.
He forced a smile, chatted with Morster for a few moments, then took the collected information from him and left.
After the three Light Wizards had left, Morster leaned back in his chair, unable to comprehend why the detection spell had failed to recognize his lies…
“Could it be that I’m naturally cut out for intelligence work???”
Morster muttered to himself.
On Island 33, Noland Lee heard Morster’s soliloquy and a smile spread across his face.
Naturally suited for intelligence work?
What a joke.
I’m the one helping you, okay.
Noland laughed, canceling the “Tracking Mark” on Morster’s body.
When he had made the soul contract with the other party last time, Noland placed a “Tracking Mark” on him.
At that time, the Assassin Angel had not left yet.
It protected the Spell Mark with an authentic “Veil of Different Worlds” and transferred the control of the “Veil of Different Worlds” to Noland.
To this day, the “Veil of Different Worlds” still exists within Morster.
The Assassin Angel had consumed a considerable amount of power to sustain this “Veil of Different Worlds.”
In about three or four days, the “Veil of Different Worlds” on Morster would dissipate.
During this period, as long as Noland activated the “Veil of Different Worlds” on Morster in time, he could precisely help the other party block detection spells as well as Lamont’s “Lie Perception.”
To stay informed of the Pure Light Court and the Metal Ancestral Dragon’s movements at the earliest, Noland had been covertly observing Morster’s situation through Magic Vision these past few days.
It was precisely because of this action that he was aware of Lamont’s visit and naturally covered for Morster’s lies, avoiding revealing himself in the process.
It was likely that after Lamont’s fruitless visit, the Pure Light Court would completely cross Morster off the suspect list.
