Chapter 884: 276. Tit for tat
At the same time that Noland Lee and Denise Green were making the Capacitor Pack Device Spirits,
inside Selena’s study room.
Selena was leaning on a chair with a dozen magic pens rapidly writing characters in front of her. noveldrama
The sounds of the pens moving swiftly did not cease, urgent in their fluidity.
One reply after another was sent out by her Magic Messengers, and one letter after another was brought in, placed on her desk.
As a busy, powerful woman, Selena had as many as twenty Magic Messengers.
...
These white shells, trailing bubbles and hovering in the air, did only two things—teleport and drop off envelopes, or take another letter and teleport away.
Round and round it went, an endless loop, day after day.
After more than ten days of continuous work, right up until the day before Yorksim was to pay tribute to the sea monsters, the pace of the incoming letters finally began to slow.
Selena rubbed her temples with her pale fingers and sighed,
“Ah, once I become the Principal for Jarvis, things should not be this busy, right? It’s truly a headache. I’ve even been doing my meditations in this study room, cutting down a whole third of my meditation time. If this continues, how long will it take for me to advance to Ten Rings…”
“Splash~” Sound of water came from a miniature ocean.
Selena looked over and saw the rippling scene, indicating that someone was trying to teleport to see her.
The number of people who could directly teleport to her study room was very few, either family members or important figures from the Department of Magic or Wizard Enforcement Department.
Selena took a deep breath, straightened her clothes, and shot a water pillar towards the shimmering miniature ocean.
The miniature ocean contracted and spat out a figure with a ‘plop’ sound.
The man was burly, wearing a deep blue robe of the Deep Sea Branch, his brows bearing a subtle resemblance to Selena’s.
“Brother, why are you here? Have you run into trouble gathering the Combat Wizards?”
Seeing that it was her older brother, Denise relaxed against the back of her chair.
Lonco pulled up a chair and sat down opposite his sister:
“Gathering the Combat Wizards is not an issue, Selena, we’re ready to face tomorrow’s battle. I came because of something else.”
“Hmm, speak up, what is it? If you want to discuss the price of the ‘Sonic Explosion Magic Scroll,’ I’m afraid I can’t be of much help, the price is already very low.” Selena picked up her tea cup and took a sip.
Lonco waved his hand:
“It’s not about that… I’ll just say it. I’ve just come back from seeing our father. He thinks the Magic Contract we signed with Jarvis is generally fine.”
“Generally fine?” Selena chuckled lightly:
“If it’s generally fine, doesn’t that mean there’s a serious problem? Tell me, which clause does father want to change? I’ll talk to Jarvis about it.”
“No, he doesn’t mean to modify the Magic Contract.” Lonco carefully chose his words before continuing:
“He feels… uh… hey, it’s a bit difficult for me to talk about this…”
Lonco looked visibly conflicted…
Selena frowned:
“What exactly are you trying to say, Brother? Why are you beating around the bush today?”
Lonco took a deep breath, gathered his courage, and said:
“Father says, considering Jarvis might have a more powerful influence in the Deep Sea Branch, or even within Hotams and the Ulnas Circle in the future, we must prepare in advance to avoid an imbalance in our relative standings.”
Selena’s brow furrowed deeply:
“What do you mean? What is Father planning to do? Sign another, longer-term Magic Contract with Jarvis? I can discuss it with Jarvis.
“But honestly, maybe Father is mistaken. Jarvis is only focused on managing his own Sub-Dimensional Plane. From what I know of him, the most he would agree to be is something like a Lecturer Professor. He has absolutely no interest in becoming a Councilor-level Professor or joining the Department of Magic. So where does this idea of influence come from?”
Watching Selena question him, Lonco gave a bitter smile:
“Your reaction now is exactly what Father predicted. This is where Jarvis is most tricky. Father says not only does Jarvis have a far-reaching strategy, but he’s also good at hiding his real intentions. He also said, ‘Selena, you naive girl, are only thinking about getting rid of the mess in the Suman Archipelago as soon as possible and will undoubtedly take Jarvis’s words as gospel and argue for him on my behalf. Look, Father has hit the nail on the head.’
Selena crossed her arms over her chest, propped a leg up, and tilted her head back to stare at the ceiling, in a manner that suggested she was beyond engaging with the topic:
“So what if Father got it right, Brother? Unless you can clear up all the troubles of the Suman Archipelago, peace will never come, and I’ll still leave with Jarvis.”
Lonco ran his hands through his hair, evidently troubled by his sister’s words:
“This is the result of Jarvis’s meticulous planning, Selena. Please hear me out; Jarvis’s schemes are too profound. It wasn’t until Father discussed these issues with me that I suddenly realized how secretive Jarvis’s arrangements were. You may not believe me, but surely you trust Father’s judgment; he’s lived for over two hundred years and certainly knows more than we do.”
“Fine, then tell me.” Selena rested her head on her hand, propped on the armrest.
“Here’s how it is…” Lonco paused:
“The primary crisis here in the Suman Archipelago comes from the Isidora Mermaid Kingdom, right?”
