Chapter 1335: 435. Justify oneself
All the above information comes from the Order Plane’s Core.
Noland Lee quickly read through it and understood, then explained to Cucumber Slice:
“I can’t go into specifics with you, as it involves game company secrets. However, I can give you a vague answer.”
Cucumber Slice made noises of acknowledgement, patiently listening.
Noland Lee said:
“Do you remember the matter about ‘one game character bound to one game helmet’?”
...
Cucumber Slice nodded:
“Of course, I remember. To create a new character, I even bought a new helmet. Oh, that’s right. I chose the trade-in service. The new helmet was delivered, and the courier took away the old one.”
Noland Lee slightly intensified his tone as he said:
“The problem arose with the old helmet. Game helmets bind to players’ brainwaves, and the brainwaves are the password to unlock the game helmet. Your brainwave signatures were recorded in the game helmets. Although those helmets were scrapped by the company, your brainwave signatures were accidentally leaked out. The virus creator somehow got hold of your brainwave signatures and ultimately crafted a virus targeting you.”
Cucumber Slice gasped:
“Hiss, does that mean there’s a mole in your company?”
Noland Lee silently nodded, pausing for half a second before saying:
“The task of finding the mole is someone else’s responsibility. You and I just need to deal with the threats within the game.”
Cucumber Slice also didn’t want to get involved in the company’s internal struggles outside the game, so he decisively said:
“Okay, I understand. I’ll just do my job. What do you need me to do now?”
Noland Lee asked a seemingly unrelated question:
“Do you think that half-bodied figure that appeared just now looks familiar?”
“Familiar…” Cucumber Slice pondered for a few seconds:
“Indeed, it does look familiar. He closely resembles someone who did part-time work in my team before. But it’s strange. Why would he be wearing the Dark Divine Cult’s uniform? Could it be the virus has something to do with the Dark Divine Cult? That’s a bit far-fetched, isn’t it? How could something in the game affect reality?”
Noland Lee, however, slowly shook his head, speaking in a low tone:
“Cucumber Slice, sometimes things are just that absurd. The game Starry Sea is overseen by an artificial intelligence. But you should know, once artificial intelligence evolves to a certain point, it can become somewhat uncontrollable.”
Cucumber Slice was initially confused, but then he had a realization, quickly saying:
“I get it! The AI responsible for playing the role of the Dark Divine Cult is having issues, right?”
“You could understand it that way,” Noland Lee said:
“Our investigation in reality found that the company may have implanted too many settings related to the Dark Divine Cult into that AI. This led the AI to develop a belief that it was the mastermind behind the Dark Divine Cult. It seemed to have brainwashed the virus creators through some means, making them believe they were members of the Dark Divine Cult and were working for the cult. That’s why you saw the virus creator wearing the Dark Priest’s uniform in front of you.”
“Eh, I actually guessed it,” Cucumber Slice realized, his face clearing of confusion.
Noland Lee secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
He had finally managed to come full circle with everything.
It wasn’t easy at all~~~
To dispel the player’s doubts while keeping them from knowing too much about the secrets related to the Plane’s Core, Noland Lee had no choice but to blame everything on the AI…
It truly exhausted him.
Noland Lee cleared his throat and gave instructions to Cucumber Slice:
“What I want you to do is not complicated.”
“Please tell me,” Cucumber Slice listened attentively.
Noland Lee continued:
“Shortly I will issue a series of tasks to your team through the Master of the Black Hole Magic Academy. These tasks will guide you to investigate the Dark Divine Cult and the Angel Enterprises Alliance. You just need to follow the task guidance and report the situation to the Dean, and you’ll complete the tasks.”
“Is it that simple?” Cucumber Slice asked.
“Yes, it’s that simple,” Noland Lee nodded slightly.
Cucumber Slice then asked:
“Why do we need to investigate the Angel Enterprises Alliance?”
Noland Lee pondered for a moment before whispering:
“This secret, you and I know, the company’s upper management knows as well, but you can’t tell anyone else.”
“Mm, please go ahead.” Cucumber Slice said in a hushed tone:
“I promise not to reveal any secrets.”
Noland Lee whispered:
“According to the plot designed by the company, Angel Enterprise Alliance should not be cooperating with the Dark Divine Cult, but backstage data suggests that the artificial intelligences simulating these two gaming powers have been frequently exchanging data. This data has been encrypted by the AI, and our engineers are working hard to decrypt it. Meanwhile, we too need to search for clues within the game as much as we can. This is where we need your team’s help.”
Cucumber Slice pursed his lips tightly, nodding seriously.
Noland Lee continued:
“While you conduct your investigation, we GMs will also be busy. It’s just that the dimensions of our investigations differ from yours.” noveldrama
“Yeah, I understand, I totally get it.” Cucumber Slice wore an “I get it, no need to explain” expression.
Noland Lee had no idea what conclusions the other party was jumping to, and then with a wave of his hand, he said:
“That’s all for now. Whenever you’re ready, just grip the Academy Badge and think ‘I want to take on the series of tasks’, and you will trigger the mission line we have set up for you. If anything arises, you can report to the Dean, that’s my alias.”
“Understood, GM sir. Oh, sir, may I broadcast videos of the mission process?”
Noland Lee thought for a moment and replied:
“Yes, but be cautious about confidentiality, do not leak any information related to viruses and bugs. If it’s just broadcasting the plot, I won’t interfere.”
“No problem, sir, I’ve got it,” affirmed Cucumber Slice.
As Cucumber Slice watched, Noland Lee’s figure flickered and then disappeared into thin air.
After Noland Lee left, Cucumber Slice repeatedly tried logging in and out of the game.
Seeing that he was indeed no longer troubled by the virus, Cucumber Slice finally relaxed completely.
He carefully checked the inside of the ship and found that the charred spots left by the laser gun’s shooting had been repaired, and the holographic projector was working normally again.
“That’s why they say GMs are awesome. Fixed up the ship without a sound,” he muttered wonderingly to himself.
Inwardly giving a thumbs-up to the GMs, Cucumber Slice then logged out to edit videos with his team members.
…
Inside Cucumber Slice’s studio.
The real name of Cucumber Slice was Noah Bennett, who at this moment, was overjoyed by the approaching task line.
Seeing him walking out of the Conference Room with a smile, the team members looked at him with puzzled expressions.
After putting down the Game Helmet on his desk, Cucumber Slice approached his team members and said:
“Guys, I’ve got some good news.”
“What’s the good news, boss?”
“What were you doing when you went online just now? Did you find another hidden task?”
Cucumber Slice said cheerfully:
“I did find a hidden task. Once everyone finishes their current work, let’s all log in and take on that task. It’s a task only we can do, and we can start an exclusive segment, reporting on it for the long term.”
The team members cheered.
Cucumber Slice clapped his hands smilingly in celebration.
Just then, a team member who was browsing a gaming forum cried out:
“Holy shit, guys, check out the forum. Someone successfully joined the Angel Enterprise Alliance!”
Cucumber Slice raised an eyebrow, thinking of what the GM had said to him, and immediately walked over to read the forum post alongside his team member.
“Someone really joined the Angel Enterprise Alliance… Isn’t that a villainous power?” one teammate remarked.
Another chimed in on the conversation:
“If you can join the Angel Enterprise Alliance, does that mean you can also join the Dark Divine Cult?”
A thought struck Cucumber Slice.
Join the Dark Divine Cult?
Wouldn’t that be like jumping straight into the fire?
But then, an audacious idea seemed to strike Cucumber Slice:
Could the mission line the GM had set for their team involve joining these two villainous factions as undercover agents?!
