Chapter 1142: 354. Keen Insight_2
Noland Lee sat on the back of the Spider Monster, glancing back at the pyramid that was growing more distant by the moment, and the War Spirits shuttling through the air around it, lost in thought. noveldrama
During the brief exchange just now, Noland Lee had casually thrown out a Deconstruction Technique, and had managed to get information about the War Spirits.
Their proper title should be High-level Battle Spirits, not the ordinary War Spirits that Noland Lee had once helped defeat alongside the Tatis Army.
Ordinary War Spirits needed to rely on Undead Laborers and Undead Acolytes to build their Necromancer’s Watchtowers and Undead Cannons for them.
Whereas High-level Battle Spirits possessed a special Storage Space from which they could summon pre-prepared Necromancer’s Watchtowers and Undead Cannons, or even use the magic materials within the space to summon an undead army on the spot.
It could be said that each High-level Battle Spirit was equivalent to the combination of a mobile Turret and a formidable Summoner.
...
Noland Lee wasn’t afraid of one, two, or even a dozen High-level Battle Spirits swarming him, but he had to guard against the situation where he might be surrounded by hundreds of them.
“It seems that doing bad things under the noses of High-level Battle Spirits is not going to be an easy task,” he reflected.
With a sense of awe, Noland Lee turned his gaze toward the final destination of his journey, casting several “Mind View” Spells in quick succession.
That was a grand palace located in an Underground Space, very much in the style of the Ancient Tatis Dynasty.
Luxurious, decadent, every part of the wall was covered with exquisite carvings, and even the Ground Tiles were patterned, each tile bearing a different design.
A large group of Undead Laborers led by Undead Acolytes was busy repairing around the palace’s pillars, walls, railings, and Stepstones, hammering and chiseling, adding patterns or finely tuning the Runes.
Noland Lee did not know where this group of Undead Laborers had come from, but he thought that such eternal enslavement, which continued even after death, was enough to plunge the soul of any living creature into endless numbness and fatigue.
“That is our Latiss Palace, Guest,” Lophi said while galloping and began to explain,
“I will take you into the Palace to meet Mother Spider. If you behave appropriately, Mother Spider should agree to sign a Magic Contract with you.”
Lophi deliberately emphasized the word “you,” reminding the proud Sea Monster Emissary not to ruin the matters entrusted by the Sea Monster Queen with a slip of the tongue.
Noland Lee made some casual remarks and inquired about anything he should be especially aware of when meeting the Spider Mother.
Lophi answered them one by one.
The team drew closer to the Palace with the conversation between the two, speeding their approach.
The expression “seeing is deceiving” was fully demonstrated in this moment.
The Palace sat like a huge Black Silhouette on Sky’s Edge, twinkling with Dark Green lights that resembled stars.
It seemed so close yet in fact, Noland Lee was still at least fifty kilometers away from the Palace.
Halfway there, the silent Assassin Angel spoke in Noland Lee’s Mind,
“I’ve carefully observed the Soul Factory and the High Tower. The High Tower is a structure that sends signals into Outer Space, and the ritual array for the Pollution Zone is within it. The Soul Factory is responsible for powering the High Tower. Our best option should be to disrupt the Energy Pipeline Network beneath the Soul Factory.”
Noland Lee nodded slightly, thinking this aligned with his own thoughts.
“Your Excellency, I have a Spell that can quickly absorb Soul Energy…”
Noland Lee concealed the origin of ‘Soul Absorption,’ briefly introduced it, and proposed a plan for himself to quickly absorb the energy within the pipelines.
After hearing about the Spell Noland Lee mentioned, the Assassin Angel was not surprised by this Magic, simply saying,
“That Spell alone is not enough. The Soul Factory stores approximately 4 billion points of Soul Energy. Only if we eradicate the majority of the stock at once will we be able to significantly delay the onset of the Pollution Zone.”
4 billion points…so much…
Noland Lee had been preoccupied with observing the High Tower and reviewing the Deconstruction Results and hadn’t estimated the capacity of the Soul Factory.
Now, Noland Lee thought, the Undead Cult must have drained all their resources to scrape together just under 3 billion points of Soul Energy, which is why they were covertly purchasing more from the outside world.
To scatter those 4 billion points of Soul Energy would indeed deal a heavy blow to the Undead Cult.
Noland Lee pondered deeply.
A Spell that he had previously cast aside into the corner of his mind came to the forefront.
“Magic Theft”!
The “Magic Theft” Spell with only 20% completion!
This Magic Spell was indeed flawed, with an extremely low efficiency for theft, but its greatest advantage lay in its extraordinary stealth!
Even if its runes were cast right under the nose of a High-level Battle Spirit, there was no way it would be Detected.
Besides, the disadvantage of low theft efficiency could easily be compensated for with quantity!
Noland Lee’s pupils constricted, and he spoke to the Assassin Angel using his Voice of the Mind,
“Your Excellency, I have another Spell at my disposal, it’s called ‘Magic Theft’…”
After a brief introduction, Noland Lee continued,
“Perhaps we could use this Spell to weaken the Soul Factory, subtly stealing Soul Energy from the Factory without leaving any trace.
“Didn’t that War Spirit just say? The ‘Destruction Law Archbishop’ is testing the Divine Tower.
“If, after several tests, the Destruction Law Archbishop finds an inexplicable decline in the energy reserves of the Soul Factory, they would surely hesitate to start up the ritual array on all fronts.
“This kind of untraceable energy decline will likely force the Undead Cult to delay the activation of the Pollution Zone time after time. After all, their reserves of Soul Energy are vast, but limited in the short term.”
