V3 Chapter 46

Chaos!

The troops from both sides were engaged in a fearsome battle.

The battlefield was covered with the corpses of monsters and demons. Though both sides have fought hard, the balance has already tilted.

The knights of the Demon Princess were slowly being pushed back, and a large number of them have already fallen from the claws of the monsters. Though, even more, monsters had been killed but like a never-ending torrent, more and more monsters came from the forest and join the fray.

Even to the elites of the Demon Empire, the situation had become too much for them to handle.

“Even if we die, we must protect the Princess!!”

Rovarte, the Captain of Oriel’s Demon Knights and also one of Oriel's well-known loyal Demon Generals cried out. She galloped on the battlefield, swinging her halberd, and cutting monsters one after another. She reared up on her hind legs to dodge the tiny creatures’ claws and bites with her forelegs.

“So annoying, you little crickets!!” she was now annoyed, sweeping the halberd like a violent tornado.

A giant wolf lunged at her, but in the blink of an eye, Rovarte seemed to have teleported behind the grim, followed by a front leg kick to break its neck. The monster was instantly dead before it reached the ground. However, there's no rest allowed. After a few tense moments passed, the rest of the horde was once again upon her, encircling her with their bloodthirsty ferocity.

This is not normal!

The War of Beasts might have the ability to control Demon Beasts, but it's not to this extent. In the first place, the monster's eyes seemed to be clouded by insanity!

Could they have drug the monsters, including those who were inhabiting the forest?!

That's absurd!

If these monsters continued like this, they would never stop until they destroy everything in the surrounding. The nearby Cities and Villages would be implicated!

Are these people insane!!?

Do they not care what kind of destruction they would cause, how many people would lose their lives for their own foolish stupidity?!

"Those stupid bastards!!"

Rovarte's anger flared, and couldn't help but let out a loud roar in anger. She turned toward the monster charging at her, and in one fluid movement leap into the closest monster, a bull-like creature with four arms and two heads holding a large club.

With a swing of her two-meter halberd, even the air seemed to have been cut.

The clash happened in an instant, but the creature’s club broke in shambles, while Rovarte's halberd continued on, cutting the bull monster in half without hesitation. The halberd continued to cut a huge divot of grass and soil from the earth and dying the green into a blazing crimson red.

Rooooar!!

As she was dealing with the monsters around, a giant cyclops came with thundering footsteps and swung its large wooden club at her. Rovarte pulled her weapon from the ground and in a flash made another swipe, clearing the monsters around her.

The Cyclop smashed its weapon at her, creating a thunderous explosion.

A cloud of dust covered the area.

Woosh.

Something flew from the thick dust, a four-legged creature running through the massive wooden club with a fierce, bestial expression. It was none other than Rovarte.

The Cyclop raised its arms, trying its another arm swatting toward her as if she was a fly. However, she easily dodged it, and gallop straight toward its face.

Like a meteor, she stabbed through the monster’s eye, causing a loud scream to echo in the surroundings and blood to rain down from the sky. But that was not all of them as more terrifying monsters appeared; Giants and half ‘a dozen blood-frenzied Magical Beasts.

Rovarte rolled to her side as one of the demon beasts flew straight at her. Quickly to regain her footing, she swung her halberd with all her might. The demon beast turned around just in time to see the blade of her weapon slicing the creature’s body in half, sending it sprawling to the ground, drowned in its blood.

“Tsk, they’re relentless!”

One of the Giants swung his large club, crashing into a group of Demon Knights.

In an instant, several Demon Knights immediately lost their lives, while some were able to survive, but receive grave injuries.

“Bastard!!”

Becoming enraged by the death of her subordinates, Rovarte’s eyes began to glow red. Her body exploded with power, the surrounding area caved in, the ground cracked, and she jumped into the air. With her strong right arm, she swung the halberd against the Giant’s head.

The impact sent the Giant crashing to the ground with a large thud, causing a tremor through the entire area.

Meanwhile, Ruka held the attention of one of the four Beasts of the War of Beasts: Dreka, the Ogre Demon, as she slaughtered her way through the chaotic battlefield.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

A bright ray of light flashed and a vigorous silhouette rushed forward.

The monsters simply had no chance to defend themselves. They weren’t able to catch sight of her and thus were stabbed, slashed, and killed in an instant. Even the higher ranking monsters and magical beasts among the enemy horde could only defend themselves against a few strikes before Ruka claimed their lives with her twin daggers as well.

Wit a cat-like grace and nimbleness, she runs through the sea of monsters, slashing and slitting the throats of any monsters and werebeasts that she passed by like a ghost, and reaping their lives before they even know it. In fact, she only left a few after-images behind as she weaved through the battlefield.

Different from the Demon Knights whose defense was strengthened by thick armors, Ruka as fighting while wearing a simple maid uniform, long frilly skirt, and boots that came up till her calves, making her quite conspicuous amidst the blood and gore.

“Damn, I lost sight of her highness…!”

Ruka grumbled in annoyance.

The Princess reckless nature was too difficult to follow. Before she knew it, the Demon Princess had already flown into danger, leaving her crawling on the ground.

With a frustrated expression on her beautiful face, her figure constantly flickered as she traveled in between the enemy's horde almost as if she were creating doppelgangers of herself.

As she paid attention to her surroundings, each strike toward her body was carefully predicted and dodged- some predicted, while most were the effect of the subconscious reflex of her body, doing the evasion before she could register what happens.

The training she had suffered under her master’s guidance was not for naught. Dodging and evading fatal strikes had been the first thing she had learned from her beloved master. She had gone through hellish training for her evasion that her body would subconsciously react itself when it feels the slightest danger.

While she was able to injure the enemies around her, her enemies weren’t able to do the same to her. Not to mention her attacks were incomparably sharp beyond anyone’s imagination.

In the midst of the horde of monsters, Ruka had already killed and slaughtered dozens of monsters within the span of a few seconds, some of which were high-ranking magical beasts that would pose a threat to even an Elite Demon Knight.

Still, despite how many she had killed, displaying her prowess for the very first time in front of the people, the frown on her face never subsided. In fact, the worry and anxiety in her heart become thicker as minutes passed by.

“There’s too many of them…!”

With gleaming cat-like golden eyes, Ruka growled in annoyance. Her white-blue motif Maid attire was now dyed red with blood, and she felt upset, frustrated. If she had known this situation would occur, she would have worn other clothes.

She didn’t want to stain these beautiful clothes that her master made especially for her, and likes. To top it off, the blood that stained these sacred clothes was the blood of inferior beasts- staining it with their blood is like dirtying her beloved master, and this made her angry.

Despite trying to avoid blood splatter, she failed, especially with how chaotic this battle is. She would have like to sneak away, change her dress, or avoid this battle by any means, her true strength cannot be known to anyone or else, it would spoil many things to those who would recognize her. But at this current point in time, it would indeed be problematic if the princess dies.

“Protecting her is also your job, Ruka. Think about what would the Master says if something bad happens to her, even your death would not make him forgive you,”

So convincing herself, Ruka can only grit her teeth and fight. Suddenly, her brows furrowed, and her cat-like eyes narrowed.

Baaang!!

At her position, suddenly, a large spiked mace smashed causing the land to shake, and a cloud of dust to spread through the area.

A minotaur with the height of almost three meters, and with the skin akin to that of bronze, let out a ‘Mooo’ cry of victory.

However, it’s too early for such a declaration.

A shadow appeared just behind the creature unnoticed.

It was none other than Ruka.

With gleaming golden eyes, Ruka grit her teeth, and unleashed her skill upon the edges of the pair of daggers she was holding, leaving a streak of cyan light.

Fighting Spirit.

Unlike Mages who used magic power to cast powerful spells, warriors used their tempered spirit to coat their bodies or weapons to fight. They call it, Fighting Spirit, or Battle Aura. It is formidable energy cultivated by warriors in place of magical energies.

They coated themselves in fighting spirit to become akin to that of armor, protecting their bodies from any harm and strengthening their bones, muscles, and reflexes and etc...to enhance their physical strength, which all abilities focused on the physical body.

Warriors who cultivated their [Fighting Spirit] were commonly known as [Augmenter], those who used supernatural powers to strengthen and improved their physical body to superhuman limits.

In fact, most high-level warriors with dense fighting spirits would be able to conjure attacks like that of magical spells, calling it {Combat Art}. And unlike Mages who conjured Magic Spells, Augmenters manifest their magic on their physical body as a catalyst, basing on their affinities, and coating themselves.

And although Mages were much more advantages in terms of destructive power, Augmenters was not the least bit weaker. These people were the ones who cultivate their bodies to possess a much better physique and physical prowess than any other living being making them a force to be reckoned with as well.

Though, compared to Mages and Sorcerers, cultivating {Fighting Spirit} is extremely tedious and hard, due to the fact they used their mind, body, and soul as a catalyst to store supernatural power beyond normal means. In fact, it was even classified as breaking through one’s limits.

An azure glint of daggers left behind a brilliant glow of lights as it arced toward the monster’s back. Thick magical energy sprayed out of the twin daggers that Ruka was holding, as she unleashed a powerful combat art.

The pouring of [Fighting Spirit] onto a weapon was actually a rather common technique, which would directly increase the sharpness of a weapon. Some even able to coat their fists with blazing flames, legs with rock-like armor, weapons with the might of storm, or enhanced their speed with lightning and wind, and more. Still, the power and strength the weapon or the attack reached depend on the user. The weaker their fighting spirit, the weaker they also become.

In the world of warriors, the stronger their will, the powerful they are.

There were even people who can be called War Gods, wreaking havoc on the battlefield…being called Battlefield Killing Machines.

Back on Earth, they would be akin to the War God Achilles, as their powers and abilities are almost comparable to him.

Ruka was originally a Mage that can cast magic. But her talent in Magic is quite limited due to her bloodline as a Werebeast.

Werebeasts are most famously known for their extraordinary physiques and fighting strength. Only because of her demon bloodline was she able to cast magic. But her talent, as expected is quite insignificant. But as a fighting warrior, she was very strong, with her inherent physical advantage as a Cait Sith. Though, she appeared more like an Assassin rather than a Warrior, that specialized in stealth and speed.

Her nails that can be retracted at will were as sharp and hard as metals, but against monsters the likes of Minotaurs, they would not be enough. After all, the defensive ability of monsters such as Minotaurs, Giants, Ogres, and such, was said to be extremely powerful. Thus, she pulled her weapon of choice- a pair of high-grade magical weapons; [Shadow’s Fangs] that was personally gifted to her by her beloved Master.

With these blades, there’s nothing she cannot pierce through.
