V2 Chapter 168

Grinning, Cian took a liking to the Manticore. Though, he just left it alone because it didn’t seem hostile to him, for whatever reason it keeps on sticking with him. Now, Cian has decided to keep it officially. Although Manticores are just B Class Monsters, not special or unique in any way… still, Cian adored its loyalty.

And besides, with his newly obtained [Mind Reading] ability, it’s cute childish thoughts were clear to him. And all of it was how to serve and protect him, which he found rather interesting.

Well, having a pet or two doesn’t seem to be that bad…

Seeing two Green Wolves appeared in front of him while another one behind him, Cian’s eyes narrowed. Then, he watched as one of the Green Wolves, seemingly its leader appeared amidst the pack. It was quite a large canine. Larger than a Male Lion, or even a saber-tooth tiger. It's almost as big as the Manticore.

It glared at him, lifting its massive paw and set it down in his direction, growling. Its green eyes gleamed, focused intently on him, not to the clearly powerful Manticore, but him. It seems like their target was him. Wanting to kill him, for whatever reason. The largest Green Wolf's body lowered to a few inches off the floor. It was the classic crouch stance before the pounce, and Cian snorted in provocation.

Then, the two Green Wolves behind it started lowering their forefeet, slightly lowering their heads as well, assuming attacking postures, ready to pounce on him.

"The menu for tonight has been decided,"

Without any hesitation, he grabbed ahold of his sword in a reverse grip, with its blade pointing behind, he habitually gripped it as though he was holding a dagger and the pitch-black gun ready to fire. Wooosh. Suddenly, Cian felt a chill across the back of his neck, and he hurriedly dives down at the side.

A translucent invisible blade shot towards his former position from behind, cutting the nearest tree in half. His back shed sweat—damn, this Green Wolves also knows magical attacks? That was quite a surprise.

That was a wind blade. A 1st rank Wind Magic, one of the most basic wind spells a wind mage could use. However, the wind blade that the Green Wolf had used was obviously stronger than a normal wind mage could use, and it has a strength almost comparable 3rd and 4th Rank wind spell. To prove that conclusion was the fact that, a tree with a width almost 5 meters, towering the heavens was cut instantly by it.

If Cian was hit by it, with his [Absolute Defense], it would be easily a game over for him!

Damn it!! he had subconsciously looked down on these monsters before, though not only monsters but also people as he can easily kill them like slaughtering a chicken. However, now that he had lost his [Vector Body], he finally understands clearly why even though human beings in the world produce freaks like Ezra Redhawk, monsters still run rampant in the world!

A mere Green Wolf can easily rival dozens of Intermediate Rank Wind Mages that can use 2nd to 4th Class Magic Spell. Not only that, but their fangs and claws can also tear metal apart, and their acidic venoms as well as their fur that cannot be pierced by ordinary weapons… these beasts are basically monsters among monsters!

…at the same time, Cian started to marvel about Humanity’s ability to survive even in this kind of world. One must know, among all races, Humanity is one of the weakest, especially in terms of magic. After all, in Magic there was Demon race, Elven race, Spirit Race, and more…while in terms of the physical attribute, the Demon race also trashed them, along with Beastmen, Demi-Humans, and Monster race!

Really…being able to dominate the Continent with these disadvantages was truly fearsome and a miracle.

No matter what world it is, humanity is much more fearsome than a cockroach!

When the Green Wolf from behind launched a dozen of wind blades, causing Cian to stand in a defensive position, the other Green Wolves also started their attacks, leaping and chasing towards him. The Green Wolves attack with Wind Blades, and their speed was like a flash of lightning- fast and quick. Without his [Nights Eye] Cian feared he would not be able to follow it's speed. Fast and strong... these are true monsters!

The Green Wolves start shooting Wind Blades again, and again, and again, from every direction.

With a howl, Cian was showered by horrifying wind blades, cutting trees around the area.

They are not only strong individually, but also versed in attacking in groups. Cian gnashed his teeth in annoyance, as he looks at the largest wolf that was staring at him while shooting wind blades and blast that can knock him in one attack. A cunning bastard who remained from the back—turning his comrades into cannon fodders, letting them suffered injuries and wounds by him, while it stands further and attacks him with range spells. This wolf was intelligent. Even the gleam in his eyes was like that of humans—cunning and wise!

Although he was not really in a dangerous situation, he was still being pushed in a corner. It’s not because he wasn’t strong, but he didn’t dare fight like before where he didn’t care about the monsters attacks. One hit at him would be fatal. Furthermore, Cian decided to take this opportunity to sharpen his combat ability that was being dulled by time and absolute power.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Although he didn’t consider this before, losing his [Vector Body] made him realize a lot of things.

He was too reliant on his newfound power. Unlike before when he was on Earth, every fight was like fight to the death, pushing his limits, and awakening his potential. He had thought he wasn’t forgetting the importance of them in this current life, still cultivating his combat ability in his free time, but to think it was not enough—the thrill of a life and death battle is one of the best ways to improve oneself!

Now, he completely understands that the dependence on cheat skills alone in a battle is a path to defeat.

What’s more important, in the end, is to rely on oneself!

Cian turned towards the direction of the Manticore which was also being besieged. Normal attacks, no matter how much sharp and powerful the attacks of the Green Wolves were, with its Golden Body, it was still more powerful than them combined. Even still, various wounds and injuries could already be seen on Leona—just that, not one of them is fatal.

However, even a mammoth could be killed by an ant as long as it continued to gnaw at it.

It was only a matter of time.

Cian’s heterochromatic eyes gleamed ominously and his expression turned calm—however, the calmer he is, the dangerous he becomes. His body gleamed in dim light, [Body Strengthening] was invoked, further enhancing his strength and speed. Even a basic warrior skill [Haste] and [Stealth] was activated to full power. Cian’s figure blurred and then with a few flashes like sword blow, attack the nearest Green Wolf.

A wolf’s cry of pain rang out, startling the other Green Wolves. However, this moment of surprise was a fatal one. After shooting several magic bullets at the wolf’s head he had attacked, immediately killing it, Cian’s black gun spat out a gray magic crystal, before taking out another fist-sized magic crystal from his storage ring and inserting it into the [Imagis Realis].

Unlike Metal Ores, Magic Crystal used magic bullets, further enhancing the power and strength and reducing the consumption of magic spells cast by him using the Magic Gun. Though, Magic Crystal is much expensive than Metal Ores, and also quite in demand—which makes Cian felt he was shooting money.

Cian’s gun light up and he drifted through the towering trees and bushes like a panther, fast and quick. He suddenly found himself enjoying zipping through the crowd of trees with incredible speed; behind him were the green wolves that had multiplied suddenly without warning, their numbers easily bypassing dozen. The cool breeze whipped at his face and filling his nostrils with the heady scent of newly budded leaves and flowers, and trees…and of course, blood.

His mind filled with undesirable excitement, and his heterochromatic eyes of ocean and blood gleamed through. He felt his blood boiling, and he felt time turned slow, his senses turned sharp. [Blood Release] had been invoked for the very first time, in this world. It has been so long since he last used it, and murder filled his brain.

Cian’s face frozen in teeth-gnashing growl—

“[Unum-Alterum Daemonem]”

The world seemed to have stopped.

His foot pivoted, and he drifts by, trees after trees, and branches after branches, his speed increased even faster, as if his body became a flying bullet as he sped up. The earth tugging him down as the Green Wolves Wind Blades hum around him like a fleet of tiny zeppelins.

Baaang!! A flame at the mouth of the black gun in his hand, throbbing like an orange jellyfish.

Behind him, a towering enormous tree closes in. With their widening wakes, his hail of bullets seems more like a bed of spikes whistling up to impale the rushing Green Wolves. A second seemed to last for eternity as, Cian stomp the tree branch and somersaulted, still firing, exit wounds begin to open up on the wolves, body, head, and legs, blooming like time-lapse flowers.

As the second ended, he fires a final shot.

It cuts through the space between them steadily like a torpedo and as the world rushes up, the time returning back to its normal, one of the largest wolves among the pack chasing at him, widened in shock as the bullet entered through the center of its forehead.

Yelps after yelps, as blood made arch in the air. When the time returned to normal completely, the countless bullets fired in that one second period of omnipotence, struck their targets and the pack wolves mounting up to over twenty slowly fell down, dead—some still twitching but already at death’s door.

Cian’s breath turned ragged, he collapsed in one knee—panting. But to his shock, the side-effect he had expected, the difficulty in breathing and the sore in his muscles and parts of his body, didn’t come. Although, he was somewhat exhausted. How is this possible?! The inevitable painful side-effects of his ability had disappeared?

Don’t tell me, was it because I’m in a different, and far stronger physical body that my original?

Then, would I be able to finally control this power?

Cian’s eyes glimmered in excitement. If that happens, then Cian would once again obtain a reliable newfound power!

As Cian was elated from this discovery, suddenly at the corner of his eyes, more wolves came and his eyes narrowed. But he was not in fear anymore.

[Blood Release]!

Making a somersault in the air, he swung his magical sword, repelling the attacks of a Green Wolf that had pounced at him when he leaps in the air, he once increased his speed, and appearing in front of the other wolf, his blade appeared between two green wolves, with the leader-like wolf. It was the largest wolf that seemed to see him as prey.

I caught you!

Blocking the leader’s bite with the gun’s muzzle, he reversed his grip on his sword and stabbed into the other wolf behind him, triggering blade frenzy—a sword art that coated his sword with magical power and attacking relentlessly at the target. A dozen arcs of lights appeared as Cian swung his sword in lightning-like speed.

When he saw the Green Wolf Leader pounced at him, Cian swung his leg like a whip and sent the other wolf flying away, before facing the wolf leader. He shot a series of bullets, one successfully hitting its eyes, causing it to whelp painfully and fell down on the ground. Cian stomped the ground upon landing and slashed his sword, but the Wolf Leader immediately snap out from its pain and met Cian head-on, pouncing at him with his claws and acid-coated fangs.

Clang! Clang! Clang! His sword and gun clashed at its claws and bushy-metal whip-like tail, creating another set of wind blades.

"What a troublesome enemy...but," Cian grinned. A shadow loomed behind him. However, he already knows. He calmly crouched slightly and his sword stabbed under his arm, piercing the Wolf’s throat, while his gun pointed in front, the wolf leader glaring at him, the gun’s muzzle inches away from its forehead—

“…Checkmate…”

Cian grinned as he met the hate-filled eyes of the wolf with his own demonic eyes.

Baaaang!!!
