V2 Chapter 83
“If that’s what you really feel then, I am relieved.”
Welie Vortan nodded with a smile. “... You know, I am not giving you a warning for anything but for your own well-being, Marelys. Whether you had liked it or not, we are standing in the side of His Highness Lucifalion. And you know, there’s an obvious feud between His Highness Lucifalion and the Second Prince…best mindful of your actions,”
My well-being… what an obvious threat… Marelys Avidhorn sneered inwardly. But she still showed an indifferent smiling expression outside; “If you ask me ‘feud’ is rather an understatement of a word to apply to this affair,” she grinned. “This is already an impending war, Lady Welie…only, there is the danger from the Human World we are facing that this war didn’t set off already, shackling our hands and feet to turn towards each other. However, I am certain that the moment, the war against the human race is settled, we will be facing another one… that time will be against our own…”
“Careful of your words, Marelys… never know who is listening,” Welie Vortan furrowed her brows and warned her.
“Everyone already knows, Lady Welie, just that no one dared to say it out loud.” Marelys Avidhorn then turned towards Sayrash direction; “You too Lady Sayrash, you had already passed the ceremonial age and can be considered a member of the upper echelons. You too will be dragged in this war whether you like it or not. Just that, you bear in mind whose side you will be standing on… a side you will follow till the end. I hope you chose right,” she smiled coldly.
Sayrash frowned, being pulled in this nonsensical topic she doesn’t want to get involved with. She shook her head, “I’m hardly likely to: It’s the sort of affair that’s of interest only to the contestants. I shall mind my own, and didn’t want to get troubled needlessly. Fighting our own kind, for what? For the game hosted between the top? Hardly something I wanted to be a part of.”
Marelys Avidhorn smiled. “My, you do sound solemn and profound! However, life is something we cannot control my dear. The Dice will always be thrown, no matter whether you wanted it or not. There’s no running away… this is the fate of those under. Something we cannot avoid.”
“…Marelys, speak no more. You are just scaring the child!” Welie Vortan scolded.
But Marelys Avidhorn only shrugs, “This is something unavoidable, you know that Lady Welie. She will, sooner or later, bear the burden, laded with the sweet words of a fool— ‘Duties and Responsibilities’ of a noble. She might as well steel herself before that happens so she can prepare herself well.”
“… …”
“Well, maybe she’ll change her mind when she reached that point. Just that, once you throw your bet on the table, there is no taking it back.”
Welie Vortan glared at Marelys Avidhorn but she turned her attention towards Sayrash and gently strokes her back, “Take no notice of this woman’s words, my dear. Her bark is worse than her bite,” she whispered loudly.
Marelys Avidhorn sneered and then gave Welie Vortan a mock-ferocious glance, “And don’t be foolish enough, Lady Sayrash, to be taken in by her. Choice. The problem is choice. And you must be the one to make it unless you want to have regrets when the time comes.” Marelys Avidhorn winks at Sayrash before turning around. “..But we already know what you are going to do, don't we? Already I can see the chain reaction… you’re your mother’s daughter truly, Lady Sayrash...” after saying that, she started walking away.
“What do you mean by that, Aunt Marelys?” Sayrash frowned and glared at Marelys Avidhorn’s retreating back.
Marelys Avidhorn’s steps halted. She turned around and looks at Sayrash with a faint grin; “…Because you didn't come here and listen to all these old women’s ridiculous nonsense to make the choice. You already know that you don’t have a choice but to step forward or else you will be stuck in a gutter of endless stagnation and pain.”
“…?!”
“You are not stupid; in fact, you are rather smart and mature compared to your peers. I greatly admired that… you are your mother’s pride. And that choice… I feel that you’ve already made it. Now, you are just confused…hesitant, holding yourself back because you still yet to understand why you made it.” she shrugs and resumed walking away.
“Lady Sayrash… looks through not your eyes or ears, but on your heart. When you do that, all your confusion will be absolved easily and you will then figure the reason why. Simple as that…”
Marelys Avidhorn sent one last smile before leaving.
“… …”
Sayrash stared a Marelys Avidhorn’s back and couldn’t help but bit her lips.
Her gaze trembling, shaking for who knows what reason.
“Don’t listen to her, my dear. She has always been like that… thinking she knows everything,” Welie Vortan smiled wryly.
“…and, thus she really knows what, everything?”
Welie Vortan shrugs her shoulders and took two wine cups from a passing waiter. She then gave Sayrash one, “She would say she knows enough. But hardly, she might be wise…but sometimes I would think of her as just someone who speaks of ideals rather than rationality. But I admit, she has the talent to read a person’s heart, that’s all there is to it. She cannot see the future, as oracles did. She was just best at reading people.”
“… my heart?”
Welie Vortan smiled faintly; “Anyway, remember, my dear, sometimes, what we wanted might not be destined for us. No matter what we do, it would never be ours. Even if you sacrifice everything to acquire something, there will come a time when you will lose everything. And you will gain nothing. That would only be foolish. And so, we measured things, not by desire or dreams but the truth of reality… you can never survive by eating delusions and playing out ridiculous dreams…”
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“… …” Sayrash stared at the ripples of her wine cup, her gaze full of complicated emotions.
“Be warned, my dear… never trust your heart, but your mind. It thinks logically than an emotional heart.”
… …
“Aanuel, I’m hungry,” Sibylla spoke softly.
One ‘I’m hungry’ immediately pressed down Cian’s heart. “Sibylla, what do you want to eat? I’ll pick it up for you!” it’s as if her every word could penetrate his heart.
“Golden Lamb meat!” She pointed at the dish located to the left side of Cian with a mischievous grin.
“Okay, wait for me!” Cian nodded his head and stood up. Sibylla stared at him with amusement. She likes this moment when she acts like a spoiled brat and yet Cian would not care and even indulge her. This kind of care and affection will always fill her heart with an overwhelming sweetness.
This kind of moment always tells her how much Cian loves her and how much he cared for her.
Suddenly, the whole atmosphere relaxed. Though many people, especially women couldn’t help but cast an envious glare at Sibylla. To be able to order the infamous Second Demon Prince and even the latter not only rebuke but also happily obeyed, just how many women in the world can accomplish such a feat?
Even fools and idiots would immediately understand that the Second Demon Prince was head over heels to Sibylla.
And he cared and treasured her deeply.
It was a surprise to everyone that Sibylla was able to tame such a wild cat like the Second Demon Prince to such a degree. No need to even mention the people of high status. The way they looked at Sibylla became even more different.
Many people were staring at their every move and action, and Cian knows that. But he didn’t have any interest in them.
These people are strangers and he would never care at all as to whatever they think or imagine. He just cared about his little fiancee now. He mustn’t let her go hungry. Finally, he got the interest, put down his status as the second prince of the strongest empire in the continent and began to serve Sibylla dishes with complete care.
“Eat more, you are too skinny. Having a little more meat is a good feel… …”
Cian’s words made Sibylla almost bite her tongue. Good feel? Does he like the types with more meat?
“Aanuel, no matter how much I eat, I won’t become fat.” she smiled wryly.
“Oh… …”
Hearing her words, Cian looked at her thoughtfully for a long time before saying: “Sibylla, I heard that after a woman gets married and is in a loving relationship with her husband, they will gain some weight. Do you want to test that out? Why don’t we get married as soon as possible and see if that is true or not?!”
“Ke ke……”
Sibylla choked. This bastard prince seemed to not rest if he hasn’t startled people. What loving relationship? What test what out?! “You know that we cannot do that yet!”
“Sibylla, the direction of your thoughts is wrong!” After realizing what Sibylla was thinking, Cian pushed that devilish face of his forward. His lips curling into a mischievous grin. That pair of beautiful eyes locked onto Sibylla’s eyes. He earnestly said: “Sibylla, this is not about the empire or Lucifalion or whatsoever. This is about us. We can just have a secret wedding, only between the two of us…” he said with a very serious expression. But he was actually just joking about it.
“Pu… …”
Finally, Sibylla couldn’t hold it in anymore.
All the food in her mouth sprayed onto Cian’s face.
“Eh… …”
Seeing the scattered meat on Cian’s face, Sibylla couldn’t help but laugh embarrassingly. A pair of hands quickly pulled out a handkerchief and wiped his face casually. “Aanuel, I didn’t do it on purpose. I just couldn’t hold it in anymore… you, you know that’s impossible! And please don’t keep teasing me, I know you are just joking or I might actually believe you!”
Seeing that Sibylla spray food on Cian’s face, the people in the vicinity couldn’t help but feel dumbfounded.
In a moment, the atmosphere turned even stranger than before. Many people were mourning for the unlucky Sibylla. Provoking demon prince that was well-known to be extremely violent, hope she makes the best of it!
However, they are doomed to be disappointed.
Cian didn’t seem to have noticed the strange atmosphere. Instead, he was enjoying Sibyllas ‘serve’. Her hands are really soft and there’s also a faint fragrance on them. This fragrance is different from the women’s smell powder, but instead, it has a natural sweetness, a kind of jasmine scent with a touch of lily.
That’s right, it’s the combination of jasmine and lily! Thinking till here, Cian moved his gaze to Sibylla’s neither thin nor thick pair of red lips. He had tasted them before and their taste and scent was even more addicting than her body fragrance! Sentimental with a slight sweetness…….
“Aanuel, is it not better if you go change clothes… ….”
Although Sibylla wiped off the meat and sauce on Cian’s face, the soup on that long sleeve purple shirt couldn’t be removed. Sibylla had wiped it for quite a while before finally giving up. She hanged her head guiltily like a child who did something wrong and was waiting to be scolded by an adult.
That look was so well behaved and so cute, making Cian really happy. Then he looked at his clothes. It’s indeed dirty. Although not large, in this gathering of high people, it was kind of striking.
If it was a normal day, Cian would’ve long gone to change his clothes, but today’s different. Sibylla was still here. Besides, the people here were not easy… …Thinking till here, Cian asked Sibylla in a low gentle voice: “Sibylla, is it alright if I leave for a moment?”
“Is it alright?” It’s not asking Sibylla if he can leave, but it’s asking Sibylla whether or not she can deal with the situation by herself.
Seeing Cian being so careful, Sibylla finally revealed her most sincere smile: “It’s not like my dear prince wouldn’t come back. I will wait for you here. Furthermore, this is not a den of wolves. What could go wrong? ”
An ‘I wait for you’ made Cian’s heart jump. So having someone waiting for you is so wonderful. Cian chuckled and placed a faint kiss at her forehead. “Wait for me! I’ll be right back,” he pressed her hand and stood up. He then swept his gaze over the crowd. ‘If someone dares to touch her, I would kill you’ kind of gaze swept around the hall, causing many people to shiver.
Cian’s eyes narrowed before, under the guide of servants, went to a side hall to change. The atmosphere at the celebratory hall became livelier because of his departure. They didn’t see the Second Prince scold Sibylla, some people felt a slight regret. They were hoping to add salt to the wound. Shortly afterward, dancers came up. The scene became bustling again.
After changing his clothes into a new black shirt and cardigan, Cian started walking back towards the Celebratory Hall. Then, his brows furrowed. He suddenly made a circle first and then walked past a corridor, sneaking towards a pavilion.
Cian’s vision could clearly pick up everything within the pavilion even though it was extremely dark. He avoided some people along the way and made for an artificial mountain that was a bit out of the way.
He’d just entered the artificial mountain when a shadow suddenly walked out from the gloom—
“I figured you will be coming here,” a voice rang out from behind him.
Cian was not the least bit surprised by the figure’s appearance. He had already noticed someone following him a while ago that is why he had chosen this place.
“I had warned you before, we cannot meet like this,” his voice indifferent but not cold.
"Marelys,"
