V2 Chapter 124

As expected of the receptionists, who are the faces of the Adventurers Guild, they were all beautiful women with great figures.

There were beast people with dog ears and cat ears like Ruka—now, I actually missed that girl… there was also a woman with sharp ears like an elf. Naturally, of course, there were also humans. Among them, a human receptionist with a golden braided hair had called out to Cian with a sweet smile of that of girl.

“I want to compete the request listed in this,”

Saying that Cian placed the four requests he had picked up into the table. Actually, he could have more but more than this would attract unwanted attention so he yielded at four.

“Complete is it…?”

The receptionist look bewildered as she stared at the four requests. Since he gave the request paper to her, it means he didn’t yet register it beforehand and just picked the requests a while ago. Although this was not rare, this is actually not uncommon. After all, the faster the requests were completed the better it would be. So they wouldn’t really care about anything as long as they provided the request materials.

However, Cian looked empty-handed to her…

Why come here to complete?

Where are the materials…?

As if reading her mind, Cian chuckled in amusement and slowly withdraw the materials needed from the {Interspatial Ring}. Tusk and pelt of a horned boar, the pelt and Fangs of Grim Wolves, Heart of a Grizzly Boa, and several bundles of Icetear Grass.

“A Storage Ring!”

The Receptionist exclaimed in surprise.

Actually, Storage Rings are not uncommon, but most Storage Rings are in the hands of the wealthy, and elite adventurers who have money and fame. It’s obviously not something a mere lower rank adventurer, much less a commoner could have. It’s as expensive as hell. And the wider space it could have, the higher its price will be.

Cian knows that it was not a strange matter for a mere adventurer to possess an {Interspatial Ring}, in the human world, they call it {Storage Rings}—so he didn’t bother hiding it. It’s also beneficial for him to not hide it as well. In any case, he can pass off as the son of a noble due to his appearance and demeanor, even if he wore tattered clothes. And as a noble, Storage Rings are not that surprising.

Cian chuckled as he stared at the girl in front of him, watching her with an amused twist to his handsome lips.

“Is there any problem?”

His amused tone didn’t escape her. The receptionist girl blinked and lifted her eyes back up to see the smirk on his lips. Dangit. He’d caught me ogling him, said the receptionist in her mind as her entire body burned in shame and embarrassment.

“Actually, I’m sorry for breaking the mood. Please don’t let me interrupt you, no offense, you’re quite pretty to watch. I was enjoying it myself,” he replied with a mischievous smile on his expression.

The receptionist’s face heated and she knew she was three kinds of red.

As a Guild Receptionist, being mesmerized to someone was not the best move.

A low chuckle in front of her made it worse.

He was laughing at her.

Fantastic.

Cough, she tried to save face by coughing but the young girl knows it helps not. With a flushed expression she stared at him; “Ahm, pl, please let me see your guild card,” she asked with a stiff smile and a nervous look, but nervous in the right kind of way.

“Here you go,”

Cian replied and once again withdraw a thin, credit card-like metallic card. His brows lifted, eyes dancing with amusement.

The young girl receptionist bit her lips but she still did her duty and accepted the Guild Card offered to her.

{Cian Jekyll} was the name listed on the small and thin Guild Card. In the right side of the metallic card was a bar-like rectangular field with a third of it was dyed in blue. A Blue Rank! The Young Girl Receptionist was quite surprised. He was young but he’s already a Blue Rank Adventurer. He must be an elite…

Once the Bar was filled with color, it means that the Adventurer was eligible to try the Promotion test to rank up. The color will increase depending on how many quests the Adventurer had completed, or the difficulty of the Quest. When failed, it will lose a bit of it. Of course, it’s not automatic, and it can only be upgraded or reduced by the Guild personnel using a specified Magic Item. As for the other matter, onto why Cian was only at Blue Rank, it was because, starting from Blue Rank, above promotions needed the Adventurer to undergo the Promotion Test set up by the Guild.

And even though Ezra had some connections in the Guild, doubt and suspicions would come out if Ezra forced Cian to become a High Ranking Adventurer. One must know, Adventurer Guild is not just a simple organization, and Ezra would never be able to affect or influenced such organization. Instead, she would be under investigation.

The Young Girl receptionist placed the Guild Card at the top of a Crystal-like Orb at the side of the counter. It then lights up golden, meaning the Card was authentic. After that, she turned her attention towards the Request Forms, slowly organizing and checking the items and materials given.

When she turned towards the last request form, her brows furrowed.

“I want to take that request—” Cian muttered, seeing her doubt.

It was the only quest he could not complete yet because he didn’t have the materials required for it.

Not like he had seen the monster specified in the Quest before.

It’s actually a B Grade Quest… The Young Girl receptionist slightly furrowed her brows in doubt. “Excuse me, do you really want to take up this Quest?” she asked, slightly doubtful. After all, the Quest was a B Grade Quest; Killing the Four-Winged Basilisk and bring back the materials required for Quest completion. But, everyone knows that the Four-Winged Basilisk is not an ordinary monster and in fact, was a very powerful one, almost as strong as A rank monsters in terms of offense.

It was just borderline B Grade Quest, and close to A Grade Quest.

No stupid and idiot people would dare play their lives against this kind of Monster, aside from those from the Great Clans, or confident high-level adventurer.

“I do, is there any problem?”

“No, but this request is quite dangerous…” she said with a whisper-like voice. “The penalty would be quite severe if you failed,”

“I know my limitations,” Cian said lightly.

This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

“Ok then, d-do you have any party…? If not, do you wanna enlist some helping hands here? I can help…”

“No, just me,” Cian smiled unmeant.

“…?!!”

“You…! You can’t do that!”

“… …”

“The Four-Winged Basilisk is not just any ordinary Basilisk. Aside from its racial abilities, the Four-Winged Basilisk also have wings that can stretch several meters and its body is stronger than normal Basilisk. Its feathers are as sharp as daggers.”

“Oh…”

“Listen to me, don’t risk your life for this…”

“Thank you for your kindness, but I have my way,”

Cian smiled sweetly, his confidence overflowing in his expression.

The Young Girl receptionist frowned again. But this time she didn’t say anything. She could only do her duty as a Guild receptionist. She then proceeds to tell her anything about the Quest as well as the penalties he would receive once he failed the quest. Though, for some reason, Cian heard her mention about choosing another quest more than once, which Cian found so humorous.

This girl's worried about me that much...?

Interesting...

“… The total is 2, 530 Glory,”

After registering the quest, the Young Girl receptionist then totaled the amount Cian would receive after completing four Quest. She then gave Cian 25 Gold and 3 Copper Coins.

Obviously, the currency the Demon Empire has is completely different from the Human World.

{Glory} is the currency’s name, seemed to have been used since a long time ago and still carried on until day.

Copper Coin – 10 Glory, Silver Coin – 50 Glory, Gold Coin – 100 Glory and etc…

Of course, Cian was also rich in terms of human currency. After all, his {Adam’s Company} was also active in some neutral cities and beastmen, which uses this kind of currency. And besides, Ezra had sent him quite an amount for his expenses in the human world. It was not a problem for him.

Afterward, the Young Girl receptionist thought Cian would leave immediately but she was surprised he didn’t. He was asking some things, especially about the current affairs of the continent and about the war. This is also one of the benefits of the Adventurer Guild, information can be bought. Of course, the price of the information depends on the level of the importance of the information.

This is also the reason why Cian decided to become an Adventurer as the Guild is a place where information from all around the globe gathers most quickly. It’s a center trade for information~

Well, what Cian was asking are just some small talks and common topics that can be heard anywhere, that the Young Girl receptionist thought that Cian was actually just finding reasons to talk to her.

And to even use some money to pay for a conversation…really, the Young Girl receptionist felt flattered, her heart throbbed and she drowns herself in flights and fancy, making her own story inside her mind. If Cian knows about them, he would surely clutch her stomach to laugh on the spot—this girl is quite interesting.

After a few minutes, since the crowd was getting bigger, Cian decided to depart—the young girl was quite reluctant but she didn’t have any reason to detain him anymore.

“…well then, later,” Cian said and was about to turn around…

However,

“My name is Hailey Bran, just, just Hailey is fine…” she suddenly said, startling Cian.

“Hahaha, I see… I think you already know my name, so… it’s nice to meet you, Hailey. Just call me Cian as well, please take care of me from now on” he said with a brilliant smile.

If Sibylla was here, she would surely be surprised; who is this?! Did her fiancée hit his head or something? Was he replaced by someone else? Fortunately, she was not here or else she might tease him for it.

Cian’s business smile gradually disappeared as he walked towards the door of the Guild Hall. Capable of acting nice was a prerequisite for being a great assassin. To be one, one must know how to use a smile or else they would just become a second-rate assassin. Be flexible, be capable of adapting—charm is also one of the greatest skill a man possesses.

Cian had just stepped outside the building when,

“I heard you’re also after the Four-Winged Basilisk,” a female voice rang out from behind him.

Cian halted his footstep and turned around. His brows twitched as he saw the one who called out to him. It was a 30 or so charming woman. She was wearing a purple skintight robe, and her slender waist and plentiful breast made on-looking men swallow a mouthful of saliva.

She indeed was a beauty who seemed free from vulgarity, full of heroism like the Great Mulan or the likes of Zenobia of Syria. But yet again possessed such allure that it could ignite a man in an instant!

What surprised Cian the most was, she was unexpectedly carrying a fiery red spear on her back—it was clearly a magical weapon. And that Magical Weapon should be a High Grade, extremely rare.

This woman was as ripe as a honey peach; however, unbeknownst to Cian, in this City, this woman was quite famous. In addition, no-one dared to have any design against her, because, on her towering breast, there was a red colored adventurer symbol which made everybody not dares to have any plans in their heart. That however represented she was a true Red-ranked Adventurer.

In this world, only several people could reach such heights.

As Cian was observing her, the woman too was doing the same. And the more she saw him, the stronger the apprehension she was feeling. Rare black hair he has, with bangs over his forehead, reaching his eyes. He has maroon colored eyes that looked like that of a hawk or an eagle—which looks very gentle and soft but when narrowed, they turned into red dyed eyes, appearing sharp and intimidating.

When seeing this appearance, for some reason, there is no sense of discomfort or detachment—in fact, having this strange familiarity or comfort even though this was the first time they met.

A strange youth—although the red-haired woman had seen handsome men before, yet this youth before him toppled the majority in her opinion.

Not because he was more handsome than them but because of the aura he was giving off, something that can make those who look at him lower their guard down. However, he was neither weak nor appearing like a wimp, in fact, he was straight and impressive looking, as well as unusually handsome, noble and elegant—he seemed to be not from this era.

“You need anything?”

Cian asked with a faint smile.

“I heard you are also after the Four-Winged Basilisk, is that true?”

“That’s right,” Cian answered.

Actually, what he was after was its meat. He had never eaten a basilisk before. And he sure wants to taste one and see if he could acquire its wicked eye of petrification like the records say. That would be cool!

That’s the reason why Cian wanted to hunt the Basilisk when he saw its Quest.

“My party is after it as well,” she said simply. “If you want, why don’t you come with us. We can share the profit after,”

“Why me?”

The woman shrugs her shoulder with a faint smile; “All the people taking the Quest has their own parties and groups. But for us, we are currently lacking one member. Although I had many companions, no one can follow our pace, and it would only disturb our rhythm. But if it's you, I think you have the qualifications to join us. How about it?"

"How would you know that, when this should be the first time we met each other...or am I wrong? Have I threatened you before?"

The Red-haired woman was surprised by Cian's reply. Then, she let out an amused chuckle. "No, this is the first we meet indeed. However, I know and I can sense it. You are more than what you let on. And besides, it’s quite an unusual for a solo adventurer to take this Quest, either you are an idiot, or you are confident you can hunt it alone. I prefer to think it’s the latter. So, I want to ask your cooperation—the profit will be divided evenly…how is that? Whatever you're planning is, your chances of defeating it should rise significantly with more capable people. Don’t you think it’s beneficial and safer for both of us?” she muttered with a faint smile.

"...but I don't think it's good to trust someone I met the first time,"

"You can rest assured. If you don't believe me, you can ask around for my name... I had undergone many tribulations that build my character. But betrayal is not one of them. I don't dare to say I'm popular in this City, but my reputation is still as solid as rock!"

Cian didn’t respond right away. The woman looked confident and relaxed but actually, she was quite anxious deep inside her. Although they can take the quest with their current member but having another strong one would surely be reassuring for her and her group.

Although she didn’t know this youth, still she knows that he’s strong, probably not less inferior compared to her. That is her instinct telling her. However, if Cian refused, she could only sigh bitterly about it.

As the woman watched Cian’s expression, suddenly she saw his eyebrows shot up and he took a step closer to her. Before the woman could react, Cian’s hand suddenly slipped a hand under her chin and tilted her face up; “I wouldn’t mind actually…I think that’s a better proposition. Well then, You've got yourself a date. My name is Cian Jekyll. What's your name my lady?” he asked with a mischievous smile.

“Th, that’s great…ahm, my name is Levelia Ornsted, but you can call me Leve,” she replied as she pulled her chin out of his grasp and took a step backward. However, before she could take another step backward, the woman, Levelia Ornsted suddenly felt sudden dizziness assaulted her.

“Are you okay?”

When she was about to fall, a strong arm immediately held her.

Levelia shivered. When she turned her head, she saw Cian’s face up close, her brows furrowed slightly and his maroon colored eyes flashed with worry.

“I’m, I’m fine,” like a cat with her tail stepped on, she jumped back in shock. Levelia’s face turned beet red in shame—

What happened? She shook her head with a frown.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Cian once again asked her.

“Ye, yeah, I’m fine… probably, I’m just a bit tired,” Levelia smiled waved her hand while stepping back.

Although Cian seemed to be worried at her, she didn’t like him touching her. Or maybe, she somewhat did like him touching her…but that was the problem. Wait, what am I thinking?! What’s happening…? I….I didn’ want to like him touching me…th, that’s right… that should be it, right?

Eh…what, what’s going on?

What, what am I thinking?!
