V2 Chapter 174
It wasn’t a request; rather, it could only be read as a demand.
When their Master and Secondo are absent, Terzo would take the highest position.
No one would complain or argue, not like they wanted to. Although Terzo was not strongest among the eight, as Sesto was still above her in power, even Quatro rivals her, she was quite favored by their master. She was their Master’s favorite so to speak. Her status considered one of the highest among them.
“Well, I guess I will give my own first…”
Sesto took the initiative and started giving her report.
When she finished, it was then followed by the others.
The members immediately narrated and gave out their reports one by one, especially Quinto’s gathered information on the Holy Kingdom of Walie, as her task was quite highly treated in importance by their master. It was about the information about the Heroes and their current whereabouts as well as powers and abilities.
When Quinto finished speaking—
“…Quinto, Secondo passed a message to you… finish all the things on your end, there’s a small change in the plan. Your presence is required,”
A towering figure appeared at the top of the broken female sculpture, with a ‘VI’ on its chest. Her voice was indifferent and somewhat deep.
“Is master summoning me?!”
Quinto hurriedly responded.
Her voice exuded a clear excitement, which greatly displeased the other Numbers.
Especially Settimo and Terzo.
However, Sesto remained unbothered; “No, the master is busy with something else. Hence he cannot be disturbed at the moment. Lady Eve wants your presence in the Haaravar Empire. Bring your troupe with you, you will know what you need to do after arriving,”
[Eve]
That was a special designation, or rather status among the Garden. And only one person possesses that title. And perhaps would never change in the future.
If their Master was the King, then [Eve] could only be the Queen. She might not among the numbers but she was still above Secondo in power and influence. In fact, [Eve] possesses the power to control the [Garden] as much as their Master; [Primo] and no one would dare defy her orders, even if it was Terzo.
Quinto was somewhat disappointed. However, she immediately recovered; “I understand,”
“…Before I forget, Settimo what happened in the Elven Border? Why have you failed?”
Terzo turned towards Settimo. Although her eyes were covered with an eye patch, Settimo still felt her eyes glaring at her, causing her entire body to get covered in Goosebumps. Her body shook visibly. She looked at the little girl and felt as if all her secrets were revealed in front of her.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“I can’t help it…" Settimo started. "... for some strange reason; the enemies have already prepared an ambush in the location. It was even already a miracle that we managed to come out alive, though two of my party have sacrificed themselves…” she then let out a helpless sigh.
Her mission this time, she truly underestimated it. She thought it would be a walk in the park, who knows they not only failed but also lose two of her people. This was really a great blow to her, who prided herself as one of the Assassins with the highest success rate. The mission this time was a massive failure.
“What do you mean by ambush? Are you saying that there’s someone who had leaked your information?”
A cold voice replied.
The slightly cold breeze turned into an icy chill, and each member immediately felt the change in Terzo’s emotion.
Anger…wrath… hatred… an oppression that showered down was like a heavy snow mountain bearing down on them.
Aside from Quarto, Sesto, and Ottavo, the rest of the members felt their body slowly gone numb in cold. This is not skill or magic, but natural oppression. The members hurriedly circulated their magic power to protect themselves. This was Soul Oppression. Anyone who tried to approach Terzo when she’s angry would feel deep fear from within their souls.
A Traitor…?
Perhaps there indeed a traitor in their midst.
The atmosphere tensed.
All attention turned towards Settimo who shrugged her shoulder; “Beats me. You know I’m not good at this kind of thing… since they were able to pass through Quarto’s eyes, it’s not like there is still any reason to doubt them. Doubt is Quarto’s aspect, not mine…”
Terzo’s oppression lightened down.
“However, you still need to act carefully and properly reign down your people, Settimo. No one can know about the master, or even us. You know that!” she paused for a moment and then continued; “…not until ‘that’ moment comes…” She softly muttered while rubbing the ring on her finger.
The ouroboros looked as if it was alive on the ring, and reflected a dim crimson light to its surroundings.
Everyone around her turned silent.
“I know…I’ll reflect on it. However, I’m not good with stuff like investigating things, and I know I’m not smart enough to think about such things.” Settimo mumbled casually.
Terzo turned towards the girl next to her position; “Quarto, I’ll leave this matter to you. If you find any traitor…”
“I knoweth what to do, Terzo,” Quarto who was standing at the fourth pillar muttered indifferently. In the eye-sockets of the mask, Quarto was wearing, a pair of bright purple orbs flashed ominously. “All for the glory of mast'r…I shalt do what I needeth to do…!”
Her voice was strange and hard to differentiate whether it came from a man or a woman. And even depending on the figure, covered by a large robe was difficult to know Quarto's gender.
“As long as you understand… there can never be mercy…” Terzo snorted. Then, she changed into another topic. “…what about the business with the beastmen? Are things going according to master’s plan?”
“All going smoothly.” Sesto replied. “… no matter where greedy people are always present. As long as you presented a bone, all dogs would come to you.”
“That’s rich coming from you, Sesto… aren’t they your kind as well?” Nono smirked mischievously.
“My life is for Master…the moment Master had offered his hand to me, I had devoted myself to him till death…!” Sesto remained indifferent. “If he wanted my life, I will give it to him without any hesitation! That goes as well with my kind…” she turned towards Nono and said seriously; “And besides, these people will know in the future, that what Master was doing is all for their sake. Their future!”
Sesto words seemed to have tugged Terzo’s heartstrings as her mood somewhat lightened and there even appeared unusual gentleness on her voice; “Sesto is right… what we are doing is for the betterment of the world! Master will quell all wars and make this twisted world a paradise!”
“…and that’s what we all desire! We will pave the road for our most exalted Master…!”
“That is our purpose!”
“…And we shall do our part to pave the path that Master wouldn’t have any problem!”
“Even if the path is laced with bones and rivers of blood…”
"All shall be done in the glory of Master!"
"""In the Glory of Master!"""
The numbers muttered one by one.
… …
“Please help us!”
Those words were suddenly thrown at him.
Cian’s brows furrowed as he looks at the groveling Harpies in front of him with a complicated expression.
What had happened for this situation to occur, you ask…?
Let’s rewind the time, shall we?
