After adding the shadow attribute to Elmore's armor and clothing and the Kikuchi spear, he returned to Shibushi City. Before returning to the mansion, we stopped by the Adventurer's Guild to check how far we had progressed in the Narukami dungeon.
It seems that not much progress has been made in the attack on the eighth layer. The death of Akagi and the others must have dampened the adventurers' motivation. Just as we were about to leave after our investigation, the branch manager came in.
I knew you were here. Come to the branch manager's office so we can talk."
I understand.
I put my materials away and head for the branch manager's office. Once inside and sitting on the couch, the branch manager showed me the notice. It was written in English, so I had no idea what it said.
Branch Manager, I don't read English.
I thought you could read magic and sacramental letters. Since you can read magic and sacramental script, I thought you could read English as well."
I suppose I should at least study English?"
A-level adventurers usually work in dungeons all over the world, so I think you should at least be able to speak English."
When I finally learn to read the magic letters, now I have to learn English too? I guess I'll have to hire a tutor again.
So what does it say?"
It says, "The application process to become a Class A Adventurer has been completed, and you are now scheduled for an interview."
Interview, or when?"
Eight days later. It will take place at the third pay practice in Tokyo."
'Oh, you mean a pay-to-play training ground, so you want me to show you the magic?'
He wants to see if you really slayed the dragon all by yourself. They want to see how powerful your life magic is.
Perhaps they have decided that the living magic registered with the Magic Agency is not enough to defeat the dragon, and they want to test their abilities. If so, they will have to showcase their new magic.
I don't want them to find out that I'm a wise guy before I get to the A level, so I might as well show them "Direct Bomb" and "Crash Ball".
These two have proven to be powerful enough to slay the dragon. I'll wait for the day of the interview while studying English.
When I got back to the mansion, I got my shadow puppets out and sat down on the couch and started thinking about whether or not I should announce that I was a wise man when I got to the A level.
Why don't you just keep your mouth shut until they find out?
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
But if we register more and more living magic, they'll soon find out."
'It can't be helped. The purpose of Mr. Grimm is the development of life magic. In order for it to develop, a large number of life magic must be made available to a large number of people.
'Yes,' he said. I forgot to give you the armor, clothes, and Kikuchi spear for Elmore."
I took out my armor and Kikuchi spear from my storage armlet and handed them to Elmore. Wearing his clothes and armor, Elmore looked like a skilled adventurer. Except for his tail.
As I recall from my experience as a skilled adventurer, it is said that the more experienced an adventurer is, the more accessories he or she wears. I usually wear only Tamegoro, Taabo, Geronta's ring, and the "ring of resistance to abnormalities.
Do shadow puppets have the same effect as magic equipment accessories?"
'What do you think? Shall we give it a try?"
I gave Elmore a "Ring of Agility. Elmore put the ring on the middle finger of his left hand. Elmore turned on the TV and started watching a program.
How's it going? Is it working?"
'It seems to have an effect. Dr. Grimm's movements and the TV images seem to slow down.'
It seems that the magic equipment also has an effect on shadow puppets. This means that shadow puppets can be enhanced using magic equipment accessories. ...... is interesting.
What about English?"
I think I'll hire a tutor to help me study."
'I suppose I could teach you.
I was surprised at the unexpected suggestion. I had not expected Métis to speak English.
Can you speak?"
'Yes, I can read. I studied it on TV and in books.'
I was surprised to hear fluent English when I used Elmore to try and make him speak English. That reminded me that I had bought an English book at Métis's request.
Therefore, he decided to learn English from Metis and began training in English conversation. The idea was to manipulate magic power for 30 minutes to activate the brain, listen to Metis's lecture, and then converse with Elmore.
This method was wonderfully efficient, but very tiring. The brain was so overworked that by evening, I gave up and stopped training for the rest of the day. However, the effect was outstanding, and it is said that the words learned when the brain is activated are stored as long-term memory.
Métis's lectures were not difficult, but simply taught the meaning, pronunciation, and usage of the words. Each lesson lasted 30 minutes and was repeated several times, and I was asked to memorize about 150 words in one day.
Anyway, by the day of the interview, my studies had progressed to the point where I could understand everyday conversation. Then, on the day of the interview, I headed to Tokyo. I arrived at the third paid practice site and waited for the interviewer from the World Adventurers Guild to arrive.
After a short wait, two interviewers appeared: Minamihara, a Japanese, and Corbic, an American. I could see that there were some Japanese there, and I felt that I did not need to rush to learn English conversation. However, I heard that I would need it in the future, so it would not be a waste of time.
They rented the largest practice field and went inside together. Inside the driving range there was a place with a couch, so they sat down there and started talking.
When we learned that Mr. Sakaki was a living magician, we investigated all the living magic registered with the Department of Magic.
So they concluded that the registered life magic would not defeat the dragon.
'I slayed the dragon using new life magic not registered with the Magic Agency.
They nodded. Minamihara turned to me,
Is this living magic something you got from the dungeon?"
'Yes. I have acquired a grimoire and a few scrolls, and I own a new life magic."
'I see...then will you show me the magic that defeated the dragon?'
I agreed. First, I will perform "Crash Ball": a D-particle vibration ball flew and hit a large concrete block, and a spatial vibration wave penetrated the concrete block.
This large concrete block was large, three meters on each side, but had been completely penetrated. The two interviewees were surprised to see a hole through it.
Minamihara turns around and opens his mouth.
'Sure, it's a great penetrating magic, but isn't this enough to slay a dragon?'
If it's just one shot, yes.
I move them away from the concrete block and then hit the concrete with a dozen or so D-particle vibration balls in rapid succession. The result was a dozen or so holes.
They looked at each other with wide-eyed amazement and then nodded.
"This is such a continuous shooting speed ...... amazing. This would be enough to slay a dragon. Is there any other magic used?"
I showed "Direct Bomb", a D-particle detonation shell flew and hit a large concrete block, then the D-particles exploded with tremendous force.
The two interviewees who saw the concrete block shattered, leaving only the front where the D-particle detonation shell hit, seemed more surprised than when they saw the "crash ball".
They were convinced that this would help them defeat the dragon. This apparently gave them a passing grade for the interview. Since it was an interview, we talked afterwards, but that was just an addendum.
A few days after that interview, I received notification that I had become a Class A adventurer. My ranking in the World Adventurer Rankings was 267th, the lowest.
I was happy, but the next day I got a call from Theodore Emilian of Wiseman.
