Episode 157 Alisa-tachi's advancement to university
It had been a long time since I met Alisa and the others. It seemed that all of Alisa's group had decided to go to university. It seemed that Alisa and Yukari decided to aim for Misaka Magic University in Misaka City, which was next to Shibugami City, while Amane and Chika decided to go to the local Shibugami University.
It seemed that Alisa and the others were aiming for a department that matched their magical talents, but I was surprised when Yukari said she wanted to learn Lifeblood Magic.
I asked Yukari to test 'Magnetic Barrier'. She agreed, so we went to the paid practice field.
"Grimm-sensei, that 'Magnetic Barrier' is Life Magic for defense, right?"
Yukari asked.
"Right. I'm thinking of using it when fighting the FireDrake."
Everyone looked surprised. Amane,
"Are you by any chance going to defeat the FireDrake alone?"
"I want to become a C-class adventurer."
I told them that if I defeated the FireDrake, I would be eligible to take the C-class promotion exam.
"But, the FireDrake is a formidable foe."
Alisa raised her voice with a worried face.
"I know since I've done a lot of research. I have been preparing for it."
"Speaking of which, are you saying that you have a good chance of defeating the FireDrake?"
"Not quite yet, but I'm almost there."
I brought a log and set it up in front of the concrete block. I decided to have Yukari shoot 'Prominence Nova' with this as a target.
If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
I activated 'Magnetic Barrier' and formed a D-Particle Magnetic Core. I then deployed a Magnetic Barrier around the target log.
"Okay, it's fine."
When I raised my voice, Yukari activated 'Prominence Nova' towards the log. A spiraling band of flame stretched towards the log, and was bounced back by something just in front of it.
"Ahh!"
Yukari let out a surprised voice. Alisa and the others also looked surprised.
"Amazing, does this mean that the FireDrake's flame breath will be okay?"
Amane says happily.
"I won't know until I actually try it, but I think it will be okay."
Alisa tilted her head.
"But, what will you do if you actually try it and it doesn't work?"
"Deploy a Magnetic Barrier Wall ten meters ahead and avoid it if it breaks."
Alisa nodded.
"I see. In order to create a margin to avoid it, it is deployed ten meters ahead."
If it was an aerial battle, I would have to swoop or rise, and if it was a ground battle, I would have to use 'Catapult' to avoid it.
"This magic, when will you register it with the Magic Agency?"
Chika asked.
"I won't for the time being."
"Why is that?"
"Even if I register it, the magic level you can learn it at is '14', so no one can use it."
Besides me, Alisa and the others had the highest magic level. From now on, it will be a period when they will study hard for the exam, so they won't be able to raise their magic level until they pass the university.
In that case, even if I registered it, no one would use it.
If I didn't register it, they may be worried about it dropping as a scroll in the dungeon and someone registering it with the Magic Agency. The probability was so low that it could be almost ignored.
The Magic Circle Scrolls that dropped in dungeons seemed to be affected by the magic level of the person who defeated the monster. It seemed that there were exceptions, but I didn't think anyone with a Life Magic level higher than '14' would have it drop in the current situation.
In addition, the magic created by the Sage System didn't seem to drop unless it was spread to the general public, so the probability was getting lower and lower.
After explaining except for the part about the Sage System, I also explained the financial side of things.
"The Magic Agency's registration system was created with reference to the patent system, so it has an expiration date. And you have to pay a registration renewal fee every year."(TN:That randomly came out of nowhere.)
There seemed to be an actual example where, after the expiration date, the demand for the magic increased and the registrant did not receive a single penny of the license fee.
"Hee~, the timing of registering with the Magic Agency is also difficult, isn't it. We registered 'Protect Shield', was that good?"
Amane asked a question.
" 'Protect Shield' is a magic with a magic level in the single digits, and there are few defensive magics overall, so I think there is a demand for it. However, Life Magic itself isn't a major existence, so the problem was how many adventurers would go to the Magic Agency to purchase a 'Protect Shield' magic circle."
An article about Life Magic was published in the Weekly Adventurer, so the information that Life Magic could be used was spreading little by little. However, it was still a minor existence.
"For Life Wizards to be active in the dungeon, are you saying that unless it becomes a newspaper article, it's no good."
Amane's eyes were sparkling. It was proof that she was motivated. However, Alisa stopped her.
"Hold on, you'll be active only after you pass the university entrance exam. Shibugami University's magic department isn't at a level that's easy to enter, so you have to study."
Amane's shoulders drooped. Amane was originally a Bestowal Wizard. Until her sophomore year, she only studied Life Magic, so her Bestowal Magic didn't improve.
It seemed that she was scolded by her parents for that. They told her not to waste her talent.
We chatted for a while, then I parted with Alisa and the others. When I went to the Adventurer's Guild, it seemed that information about the Narukami Dungeon had arrived, and there was a lot of noise. I found Tesshin, so I asked what information it was.
"The first floor of the Narukami Dungeon consists of forests and grasslands, and it seems that BlueOgres were in the forest where the stairs leading down to the 2nd floor are."
