Chapter 5: Class B Adventurers

Episode 193 ShadowBear

After discovering the stairs to the 4th floor of the Narukami Dungeon, I went to the Raijin Dungeon. I was thinking of hunting the ShadowBears that lived there on the 9th floor to obtain black magic stones and Shadow Clay.

This was Metis' proposal, and it was decided to create a bear-shaped Shadow Puppet that could also be used as an escort. When Metis checked it out, it was found that the ShadowBears were in the Raijin Dungeon.

[ As expected, flying with 'Wing' is fast, isn't it. ]

I conquered each floor in about 30 minutes no average and reached the stairs leading down to the 7th floor. In front of the stairs, three BlackGators with a total length of about 5 meters were lying there.

"If the D-Particle Wing flew for another 5 minutes, I would shoot them from above."

[ The advanced dungeon is wide. There is no way. ]

My eyes met with those of the BlackGators. The three of them started moving all at once, moving their short legs unexpectedly fast as they approached. I threw my body straight up with TripleCatapult. After reaching 10 meters above in the sky, I activated 'Protective Shield' and stood on the D-Particle Durable Shield.

Below me, the BlackGators were threatening me with their mouths wide open. While looking down at the three, I activated QuintColdShot three times in a row.

One shot hit a BlackGator in the head and the other two hit them in the back. The additional effect of cooling froze the monsters' internal organs. If their heart or lungs froze, they would die instantly. On the other hand, if the stomach and intestines froze, the surrounding blood vessels would also freeze, so they would die slowly.

The cooling effect exerted tremendous power when activated inside a monster. Fifteen seconds after the D-Particle Durable Shield was formed, it disappeared.

After retrieving the magic stones left behind by the three BlackGators, I went down to the 7th floor. This 7th floor was a snowfield area. I took out the winter clothes from my storage armlet and wore them.

The snowfield area was covered by a blizzard, so I couldn't fly. I remembered that the monsters that were tough in this area were CrazyBears and IceGolems, which I read about in the Adventurer's Guild documents, and began to proceed cautiously.

I encountered an IceGolem when I was walking cautiously due to poor visibility. A golem with a total length of about two and a half meters, the whole body was made of ice. It seemed that the only way to defeat this one was to smash its head.

I activated QuintHighBlade and slammed the D-Particle Blade into the IceGolem's head. Its icy torso collapsed and disappeared as its head shattered into pieces.

[ What, you killed it in one blow. ]

"Should I have not finished it?"

[ That's not it, I thought you couldn't kill it with a single blow. ]

"Why is that?"

[ There was a record of a Muscle Wizard who split the head with a single blow of their sword, but it didn't die, and the split head rejoined itself. ]

"Nn? ... The sword was too sharp. If I cut it with a sharp blade, that might have happened."

[ I see, I agree. ]

I made up my mind that only this 7th floor would take a long time to conquer, so I searched for the stairs in the snowstorm. When I finally found the stairs and went down, I found myself in an area of volcanoes and lava. I quickly took off my winter clothes.

It seemed that the only way to capture it was to go through the maze-like narrow path while enduring the heat. However, that's only if it was normal.

"The heat is amazing. It's an area that can't be conquered without special equipment."

[ Let's take out the Combat Wing and fly away. ]

"Agreed."

I activated 'Boomerang Wing' and rode the Combat Wing towards the stairs. The reason I didn't use 'Wing' was because it didn't have enough cruising range.

I bought a map, so I didn't get lost on the way to the stairs. I arrived at the stairs in ten minutes. I jumped down the stairs before my body dried up.

"Fuu!, it was hot even though I flew quite high. What would you do if you were to conquer it by walking on the ground?"

[ There seems to be special heat-resistant clothing. ]

I agreed. Unless you wore heat-resistant clothing, you probably wouldn't be able to reach it alive. Nn, where did Metis get that information? I asked Metis about it.

[ From a late-night TV show. They were doing a special feature on adventurer equipment. ]

Metis, who never slept, often watched late-night shows after I went to sleep.

At the end of the stairs, there was a meadow and a large river. There were forests here and there, and it was said that ShadowBears lived in those forests.

[ The 9th floor is home to BlueOgres and ShadowBears. It seems that there are many other insect-type monsters, so please be careful. ]

As Metis reminded me, I was informed of the information about the 9th floor. After checking my remaining amount of magic with the Magic Counter, I took out the Immutable Bottle and drank the all-purpose recovery medicine.

If it weren't for this, I wouldn't have considered using 'Wing' or 'Boomerang Wing' because of the consumption of magical power. As I headed towards the nearest forest, I encountered a BlueOgre at the entrance of the forest.

The BlueOgre with a blue silver warhammer attacked. I flipped it away with a SeventhOgrePush, and immediately released a QuintPileShot. The D-Particle Pile pierced the BlueOgre's chest.

The BlueOgre fell with that one blow. The BlueOgre was already a familiar opponent. While thinking about such things, I collected the magic stone and proceeded to the depths of the forest.

Just when I arrived at the middle of the forest, I encountered a ShadowBear. I've heard that the largest grizzly bear in North America weighed about 500 kilograms. This was as big as the largest of that kind.

Since it was a shadow species, it had the ability to hide in the shadows, but it attacked me without feeling the need to use such an ability.

I quickly circled behind a tree. The rushing ShadowBear hit the tree trunk with its sharp clawed paw. It wasn't a very thin tree, but it broke in two.

I jumped back and tried to get some distance. The ShadowBear rushed after me. I activated 'Protective Shield' to create a D-Particle Durable Shield and block the ShadowBear's charge. The ShadowBear hit the D-Particle Durable Shield with its paw just like before.

The D-Particle Durable Shield held up, but disappeared after being hit repeatedly.

At that moment, I fired a SeventhColdShot. The D-Particle Cooling Pile that pierced the ShadowBear's chest knocked down its huge body. And, its heart froze with the additional effect of cooling.

At the end of its struggle, the ShadowBear desperately stood up but ran out of strength when it tried to attack me. After the ShadowBear's giant body disappeared, a black magic stone and Shadow Clay remained.

"How many kilograms is this Shadow Clay?"

[ It seems to be about 90 kilos. ]

A fairly large mass had fallen to the ground. I picked up the black magic stone and stored the Shadow Clay in the storage armlet.

[ ShadowBears are disappointing monsters, even though they should fight according to their own abilities. ]

"For me, it's better to have it like this. It's easy to defeat."

It would be troublesome if they were to lurk in the shadows and wait for their prey to surprise them.

After that, I defeated nine more ShadowBears and collected Shadow Clay from two of them.
