Episode 244 The Seven-Layered Plateau

Episode 244 7th floor plateau

On that day, it was decided that he would stay in the guest room.

"It's lonely being alone in such a big mansion. You should hire a live-in worker."

"Perhaps, do you mean a butler or a maid?"

"A butler would be impossible. That's what an extraordinarily rich person hires. I know an A-class adventurer who employs a butler, but I heard that they pay several million Yen as a monthly wage."

If the monthly wage was several million rather than the annual income, it was not possible to hire a butler as a slightly rich person. Tesshin recommended hiring someone like a caretaker as a live-in worker. It was a person who only managed the residence.

"Branch Chief Kondou is well-known, so you should ask him."

"That's right. I will consult with him once. By the way, Tesshin-san, have you always fought with a sword since you became an adventurer?"

"Nope, I used a spear, and there was a time when I fought with a battle axe. The one I used the longest was the Kikuchi Spear. When I started as an adventurer, I used it because it was cheap."

A Kikuchi Spear was a spear with a single-edged blade like a short sword attached to the long handle. If I were to give a gift to Tesshin, a Kikuchi Spear might be good.

I talked with Tesshin until late at night and then went to bed. After Tesshin returned the next day, I wondered what kind of metal I should use for the gift for Tesshin.

If I were to make it with the metal I currently had, it would be either black iron or blue silver. An adventurer trying to become C-class would not use black iron. So, blue silver? But, there were also monsters that used Magic Weapons. Should I make it vermillion steel.

"Metis, do you know of a dungeon where vermillion steel can be mined?"

[ The 35th floor of the Suigetsu Dungeon. ]

"It looks like it will take some time. Isn't there a place where I can mine in a shorter time?"

[ In that case it would be an advanced dungeon. I can't investigate that. ]

Metis could not investigate advanced dungeons. I should go to the Adventurer's Guild to find out.

I went to the Adventurer's Guild and asked Branch Chief Kondou, who I knew best.

"When it comes to dungeons where you can mine vermillion steel on the early floors, it's either Kyuushuu's Kaimon Dungeon or Hokkaidou's Yotei Dungeon."

"Those are far away. Isn't there a closer place?"

"There's no such convenient story. Speaking of vermillion steel, are you making a weapon?"

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

"That's right."

"Then, is white shining steel no good?"(TN:Probably a better name for this, 'Byakkikou', literal translation is white shining/brilliant/bright steel. GTL tries to insist on white bright, but that sounds derpy.)

White shining steel was slightly weaker than vermillion steel, but it was a stronger metal than blue silver.

"Can you mine that white shining steel in a nearby dungeon?"

"Didn't you see the latest information about the Narukami Dungeon? On the plateau on the far right of the 7th floor, a vein of white shining steel was discovered. However, it seems that there are SnowBears and FogGiants there."

It was my first time hearing of a FogGiant. It meant 'Giant of the Fog', but it seemed to be a monster with a height of 8 meters. It was said that there was a vein of white shining steel in this giant's den.(TN:Note that monster names are in Engrish/Katakana, so when he says it means 'XX' that part is in Japanese. I changed it up a tiny bit to make it understandable which one he is referring to.)

"Has the FogGiant not been defeated?"

"Nope, Gotou-kun and the others defeated it. However, it looks like another FogGiant made it their den."

There seemed to be more than one Giant of the Fog.

I thanked him and headed to the reference room. When I searched and examined the materials on the 7th floor, I found something written about a vein of white shining steel and the FogGiant.

"Gotou-san decapitated the FogGiant with 'Sword Force', did he. I have to say that's quite impressive."

[ Did you decide to make the gift for Tesshin-san with white shining steel instead of vermillion steel? ]

"Right. White shining steel is lighter than vermillion steel, so the blade can be made thicker. I think it will be stronger that way."

I decided to go to the 7th floor of the Narukami Dungeon to mine white shining steel.

The next day, I entered the Narukami Dungeon and moved via the Transfer Room to the 5th floor. I went down from the 5th floor to the 6th floor, and headed deeper while defeating the undead.

With Tamegorou's support and the power of the Light Sword Clau, the 6th floor progressed without any problems, and a large amount of yellow magic stones were obtained. When I descended to the 7th floor, I felt the cold air and put on my winter clothes.

It was neither windy nor snowing today. I put out the Combat Wing and flew to the plateau. I could see the terrain where the land was raised about 20 meters.

It was roughly elliptical and about 3 kilometers long. There was also a coniferous forest on the plateau, covered with snow.

I checked the plateau from above and looked for the FogGiant's den, but I couldn't find it. It may not be visible from above.

I landed at a place that I thought was good enough and started looking for it on foot.

[ Did the FogGiant's den only contain veins of white shining steel? ]

Metis asked me a question.

"It was written that there was a treasure chest, but there was no description of what was inside. Like the Transfer Gate Key, it probably wasn't something that would affect the exploration of subsequent adventurers."

You were obligated to report for five years after a new dungeon was created, but what was inside the treasure chests were not subject to be reported. Adventurers who just wanted to brag about their success would report.

Seeing my exhaled breath turning white made me want to eat a hot pot.

[ I think the thing that looks like a hill on the left front is the den. ]

"I can't see the entrance."

[ It's hidden in the snow. ]

Metis had the ability to perceive magical power. She seemed to have sensed the magical power of monsters with that ability. I fired a non-multi-activated 'Burst Shotgun' at the snow-covered hill. The reason why I didn't use multiple activations was to prevent the hole from collapsing due to an explosion.

As if to cover the whole hill, the 'Small Detonation Piles' hit and exploded. As a result, the snow blew away, revealing a hole. It seemed that the FogGiant was still inside, and it came out of the den while howling.

The FogGiant glared at me and raised its huge club. At that moment, I activated SeventhBurningShot aiming at the giant's chest. The D-Particle Heat Dissipation Pile flew at high speed and hit it.

The impact was so great that the giant's chest collapsed. As an additional effect, super-high heat was released. Smoke rose from the hit location, and the screams of the giant echoed, hurting my ears.

However, the FogGiant wasn't killed with that one blow. The giant howled again and brandished its club. I activated QuintCatapult to avoid it. I threw my body backwards.

While moving through the air, I activated 'Airbag' and landed. The FogGiant chased after me. I hated being approached, so I activated SeventhOgrePush and hit the giant.

The high-speed rotating Ogre Plate pushed while gouging the giant's chest. The giant hit the Ogre Plate with its big hand, and the Ogre Plate collapsed due to the impact.

"Uwaah, it stopped it with a terrible brute force technique."

I activated a quintuple activation 'Blow-up Glaive'. A huge D-Particle weapon was formed and swung down from directly above. The D-Particle Blade resembling a large hatchet cut through the giant's skull and stopped in its chest.

Then, there was an explosion. The explosion shattered the giant and it disappeared. I picked up the red magic stone and put it away. Then I entered the den.

Inside the den was an empty treasure chest. Komugi emerged from the shadows and looked around.

[ The mine is over here. ]

Komugi began to walk, and then stopped at a place where a part of the wall was dented. Looking at the strata at that location, there was a layer mixed with something that looked like a white metal.

I mined for about three hours and obtained a large amount of ore. I put the ore in my Storage Armlet and returned to the Mid-boss room on the 5th floor.

I used 'Pure' in the Mid-boss room to extract white shining steel from the ore. I was able to obtain 16 kilograms of white shining steel after a long extraction process.
