Avrin, after spending a day recovering his strength, noticed that millions of people had accepted his offer and were slumbering. He couldn’t control the situation they were in and could only rely on others to look after them. At this current stage, he had bigger problems. It was time for him to speed things up and engage in the second phase of his plan. This was also the perfect opportunity for him to do so.
With a thought, he reclaimed both Sarcanus and Limos, which returned to storing themselves within him. “--Kael, Erebus, in a few moments I’m going to be converting everything into a single dark core. In a couple of days, a creature will be arriving from space and I won’t be its match. I have a way to avoid it and keep as many people as I can safe and this planet intact, but to do so I need you to make sure no one resists this conversion, or they will die--”
Avrin didn’t sugarcoat his words. Erebus and Kael, who had received this message, felt their hearts clench. They weren’t sure what to think of what Avrin said, but in the end he was the one that gave them a new life and way to live. They didn’t dare disobey. “--Lord Monarch, I will alert our kin in the north--” Erebus replied with no more than a second of hesitation. “--Master, I’m not sure if people here will all listen. I can only hope that they do. What about the ones in the process of being converted?--”
As Kael spoke, he looked around, seeing the slumbering bodies of those who had accepted Avrin’s offer. There were some who didn’t take it and had quickly left the scene, thinking it was an ill omen, and there were also others who took the time to loot, while some even had thoughts of killing people.
“You traitors!!!” A man in a light grey robe with a pendant around him roared out. He had several other people by his side and they all held strange symbols. These were the worshipers of the gods of Seleria. They were true fanatics. They all held knives, swords, and even butcher cleavers.
“Kill them all! Do not let any one of these heretics survive!!” The man in the center ordered. The robed fanatics charged forward and entered the street where those being converted were located, though before they could get far, a figure appeared from purple ash in front of them and gazed with a straight expression. This was Kael, who would not allow any harm to come to these people.
“You want to hurt my kind?” Kael spoke disdainfully. Though his appearance shocked the fanatics for a moment, the man leading them spoke. “Do not feel fear!! He is a demon sent to protect these treacherous heretics! Kill him and you will be rewarded by our gods!!” One could see each of these fanatics had crazed looks. Kael knew arguing with them would be pointless. He smirked before a look of bloodlust covered his face.
His hands tensed and he shot forward like a bullet. In but a few seconds, screams and shouts could be heard from that location, and moments later it had become dyed with blood as the fanatics had been slaughtered by Kael. He was not one to feel any mercy anymore towards those who want to do harm to his people or loved ones. He knew it would simply bring more pain if he left them be.
The head fanatic, who was the only one left, quivered with fear as he raised the pendant he had and brought it up to face Kael. “D...demon… If...you dare attack me, the gods will-” Kael had augmented his index finger and slashed it towards the man. In a swift moment, the fanatic collapsed to his knees and clutched his throat as it bled like a flowing river.
“Your gods?.. Well then, when you see them, tell them I said hi.” Kael turned to leave as the fanatic’s eyes quivered with fear before he fell limp onto the ground.
Abbadon’s face was dark. He was currently covered in blood. Around him, several corpses were splayed on the floor. “I.....I told you...all that I would kill anyone who accepts!.... The gods...have deemed this heresy!!”
A dozen bodies lay on the ground, each were angels that had raised their hands and taken the conversion cores, not even having time to devour them. They were angels who felt that the gods had abandoned them and they didn’t want to die, but in the end they hadn’t even found a place to hide before they were spotted and executed by Abbadon.
“--I save you and this is how you thank me?--” Avrin’s voice echoed in Abbadon’s mind. He, of course, had heard from Myra in regards to Avrin saving him, but he didn’t think much of it. But Avrin had seen what Abbadon did.
Abbadon glanced around. He saw how his fellow angels looked at him silently. Before long, he found that they had surrounded him.
“L..Lord Abbadon, please calm down...” One angel spoke, and another followed suit, “There aren’t many of us and yet your slaying your own kin!’ With Abbadon losing his Sigil weapon, there were people wanting to usurp his rule.
Abbadon clenched his fists as he raised his right hand and began to form a bolt of mana. “Avrin!!! This is your doing… You try to turn my people against the gods and against me!! I don't know what you’re planning, but I won’t let you get away with this!!!” Abbadon had nearly gone mad. Ever since he lost his Sigil weapon, he pleaded again and again in secret to Septim to receive a new one, but no matter what, he didn’t get an answer. Deep inside, he knew the gods abandoned them, but he didn’t want to believe it.
“--Noisy buffoon!--” Avrin’s voice echoed in his mind again. The air above Abbadon suddenly began to twist and distort. A purple hue covered the sky somewhat, but it was not a significant size, only a length of twenty meters. Dark matter began to form and take shape in that part. Avrin clearly wanted to deal with Abbadon before things got too out of hand.
“Avrin!!” Abbadon pointed his right hand upward before several seals appeared around his hand. These seals began to form into the sphere of light in his hand, before firing a beam of white and yellow light towards what Avrin had been doing.
But in a few more moments, the purple colored portion of the sky suddenly creaked and screeched and emitted a heavy glow and then pulsed out. From the center, several layers of purple light began to swirl around like a cyclone before a purple pillar of light shot down towards Abbadon. It engulfed his attack and with barely any resistance absorbed it and continued down, surrounding Abbadon.
The angels had backed away in fear and Abbadon’s eyes widened before he felt the light engulf him. He roared out in pain and his body shrunk. In a few moments, he had been converted into a dark core that rolled along the ground before resting against a loosened tile.
Back at the mountain summit, Avrin frowned a little. “You are truly annoying. Stay there for awhile.” Avrin spoke soundly before his body vanished. A second later, he was past all the atmospheric layers of Seleria and was in space, looking down at the jewel-like planet.
Avrin turned to look behind him. Of course, he couldn’t see Orphelium, but he could feel that in the direction he gazed a faint ripple of mana was present. Avrin raised both his hands and shut his eyes. His focus was completely on the planet.
“--Those of you on Seleria, in two days, a catastrophe will wipe out this planet. Whether you despise me or are with me, if you want to live, do not resist the feeling of pressure or you will die--” Avrin didn’t want to waste too much time. He had now just warned the entire planet. Whether they choose to believe him or not was up to them.
Because the people that accepted his offer were in a slumber, it wouldn’t be an issue. His voice caused a commotion to occur around the planet again. Some people were cursing his words, and others said that doom was approaching and the end was nigh.
Avrin showed no real interest. This was because the people that were not in a slumber were those borderline fanatics who didn’t believe him, as well as a handful of people who needed a bit more of a nudge.
Taking in a deep breath, Avrin wasn’t worried for those who didn’t want to be converted, but also didn’t want to resist. After all, they didn’t need to become a Spectral to survive this. That was reserved only for those who felt they had lost all hope after the dragons attacked.
“Sarcanus,“ Avrin spoke softly, and a few moments later the rods that hadn’t returned and were embedded inside the planet began to glow a deep purple. The entire mass of dark matter that had been hidden away in the planet suddenly began to stir. A pulse of purple light shot out from the core of the planet, and soon the sky turned jet black with not even the clouds being visible.
Everyone awake was feeling worry. Erebus had calmed those in the north, and they all relaxed their bodies. In several moments, the entire surface of Seleria began to glow a soft purple. The Spectrals in the north all suddenly felt their bodies feel light, then they felt tired, and in moments they turned into small dark cores that were absorbed into the planet’s surface.
Avrin’s focus was completely on this. He could only hope that the gods located on the moon don’t interfere, as it would cause things to be a bit trickier. He would not have been able to do this had it not been for the dark matter he had prepared beforehand. And even then, it was putting a toll on his mind and body.
Kael looked around. Around him were the bodies of others who intended to harm the slumbering soon-to-be Spectrals. He suddenly saw how the bodies of the dead were absorbed violently into the surface, and he eased his body, not resisting at all. The entire city emitted a sharp bright purple glow. Everything was soon absorbed into the planet.
This scene played out across the entire planet, with creatures from the size of rabbits to the grass and trees, it was all shrinking and being converted into dark cores of all shapes and sizes and then being absorbed into the surface of light that engulfed the planet.
On the eastern continent, Giron was a little reluctant, but a servant of his had screeched in pain as he felt his body be violently dragged down into the surface. He then remembered Avrin’s words, which made his face pale. He quickly relaxed his body after roaring out towards all his people to not think of resisting or they will really die. He was not one to see his own kind perish.
Not too far from the city Kael was in that had been absorbed, Shimaru was relaxing. Around him were the remnants of the White Dragon clan. He was smoking a pipe with his remaining arm. He looked worse for wear, but he felt at ease. Next to him was Amias, who seemed a little worried. He held out the conversion core that he had been given before.
“Grandfather...what will happen to us?...” Amias worryingly spoke. Though they were in a makeshift village with wooden houses that were roughly built, the remaining thirty members of the White Dragon clan, including the current clan leader and his wife, seemed to be better off than those in the city. This was related to their skills and survivability. “Like Avrin said, simply relax.” Shimaru’s words were quiet, but one could see he was a little conflicted. He had seen his kinsmen perish under the assault of the dragons, and it was a miracle they survived at all.
“Father..” The one who spoke this was Shimaru’s son and the current clan leader. Shimaru glanced over and nodded, and the clan leader nodded back. He stood up and left the small wooden house that contained no real furniture.
The clan leader, after going out in the open, knew that nod from Shimaru was confirmation of them to trust Avrin. “All of you, do not even think of resisting. If you do, you truly will perish!” Calias’ voice resounded. This made those who were sitting outside looking nervous and worried to ease up a bit.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Almost as if on queue, the energy engulfed that area as well. The sky darkened and the ground began to glow. They all felt a tinge of fear and immediately relaxed. Soon, they all felt themselves shift and turn and in moments they were absorbed into the surface.
Inside the building, the wooden floor was emitting a purple glow. “G..Grandfather!” Amias called out worryingly. Shimaru simply laughed. “It’s fine. When this is over, eat that core you have there. I have a feeling your path will lead to bigger things.”
When Shimaru spoke, he suddenly felt his body emit a glow before he shut his eyes, and in a flash he was absorbed into the surface energy engulfing the planet. Amias felt a little worried after seeing this, but he too relaxed and then felt himself and the conversion core enter that surface of energy.
Avrin was feeling around the entire planet, as if he could pick up on every speck and detail. It was an amazingly euphoric feeling, but at the same time it made him feel sick and exhausted. It was as if at this current time the positives and the negatives of this feeling were perfectly balanced.
Avrin knew that those who didn’t resist would shift into dark cores that would be stored within the dark core that would be formed from the planet. Because they didn’t resist, they would be able to be reconverted into their original forms. He understood thanks to the information God had given him in return for a favor, that the matter formed by hope was considered the matter of life and was the key to this reconversion, but it would take a larger toll on his body to do this, thus he planned to use his last favor from God to return everyone to their former state.
Avrin didn’t feel any worry, though he knew he still had to confront Orphelium. That being said, Avrin also knew that there were people who continued to resist, and those people would have their bodies distorted before turning into dark cores. These people would already be dead the moment they were converted. He would have to handle this matter later on, which is something he understood.
Avrin now focused his attention on the rest of the southern continent. He felt quite nostalgic while glancing at the Sylph forest. He watched as the trees shined with the purple glow of dark matter before they were absorbed.
When he turned to look over the Sylph city, he felt that none of them resisted. This was most likely because of Myra’s persuasion. Although she was sketchy in regards to trusting him, she probably gave up in the end.
He had watched as the entire population had shifted and were converted, though as his focus was fixed upon a certain portion he spotted the mana trace of a powerful figure looking up at him. His expression twisted a little. He knew who this figure was. It was Syrana. Myra had already been absorbed, but Syrana seemed to resist a bit.
Though at that moment, she suddenly called out as she watched the jet black sky. “You said you would come back and give me an answer!! I refuse unless you promise to keep your word after all this!!”
Avrin’s expression changed slightly. He looked at her and watched as she even went as far as to cause all her mana to burst out to try and fight back Avrin’s pressure, but even that was slowly being absorbed. It would only be a minute at most before she would be killed.
“-This woman...-” Avrin stopped and remained quiet for a moment. He owed her an explanation, but he knew he was in the wrong. He decided to suck up his pride and agree, though he wasn’t sure why he showed such care. He assumed it to be a fix of his emotions.
“--Fine. I promise, you crazed loon--” He spoke to her reluctantly. Although Syrana frowned a little after hearing Avrin’s words she suddenly gave a soft yet cheeky smile. She relaxed her body and soon, as if like a torrent of built up energy was waiting, she was converted in a near instant.
Avrin quickly moved on. It had taken him a full day to convert everything, and right now Seleria was no longer a blue and green jewel, but a deep purple and black crystal. It was also no longer the size of its former self, but had shrunk down significantly until it was around the size of the central continent.
“If you let him absorb that, we are doomed!” Of course, not everyone was accepting. Within the palace on Seleria’s moon that was now in a freed orbit, Zephiron was pleading with Septim to intervene and stop Avrin.
“Be quiet… A deal is a deal. Besides, if he thinks of betraying us, then I’ll just inform the king of his presence and how he ruined our mission. It’s no loss for us. In fact, we may even be rewarded if we tell him he is capable of forging God Essence.”
Septim didn’t seem very frustrated. Although he knew Avrin held a majority of the cards, Septim could always give this info away and make Avrin’s life a living hell with the possibility of him being hunted down.
Nefria was silent as she looked at Septim’s expression. She had been married to him long enough to tell when he was taking a risk. She wasn’t sure herself in regards to the details, she was simply informed by him that this was their lucky break. Though she had faith in Septim, she still needed to be cautious. She wanted to start her own legacy. During their conception, since they had been taken in under their king’s wing, they hadn’t had time to do as they pleased. But they hoped when this task ended it would all change.
“What do you think of this?” Mallaku cautiously spoke to Ishana, who kept a calm expression on her face, though her lips moved in reply. “I have to take Zephiron’s side on this. That man is dangerous... At his current strength, I don’t think any of us but Septim could take him on. He advances too quick.”
Tialoc overheard this and simply laughed before speaking. “Advances too quick? Isn't it normal? After all, we live an existence where beings are born with the power to devour galaxies in only a few thousand years.
Gravuna puffed her cheeks, feeling a little jealousy as she watched Avrin carefully, fueled by Tialoc’s words. “This brat isn’t anything special! We were born deities, after all. His advancement should end real soon, right?”
She wasn’t the brightest of the bunch and her words seemed to dawn on nearly all of them as their faces paled. What they were thinking was that she was wrong and that Avrin didn’t seem to have an end in sight.
The surface of the continental sized pearl that marked Seleria had a glossy appearance, yet seemed to also appear metallic. Avrin had found the hard part of the conversion process was over, and it was now simply using that raw energy and finish the completion by shrinking it as much as he could.
7,000,000 square kilometers, down to 1,000,000 then down to 200,000. Space seemed to distort the more the energy was condensed, though the more Avrin glanced at it and saw how much energy was compacted within, he began to subconsciously salivate somewhat. His eyes twitched a little and his heart began to beat quicker. 100,000 kilometers, then 50,000, then 10,000. The energy was compacting more and more, but it didn’t seem to struggle at all. In fact, it seemed as if it was fitting in perfectly until it was significantly smaller than it should be.
Avrin clenched his teeth a little as he felt God’s Heart, the dark matter core, quiver with excitement. Apparently it assumed Avrin intended to absorb this. Avrin could feel its desire. “-Don’t even dare-” He simply willed towards his heart, which reluctantly screeched before going quiet. Though this gave a bit of worry towards its nature.
Five more hours had passed and the beautiful blue and green planet was finishing its conversion shrinking at a rapid pace from the size of a small house until it stopped at a final width and length resembling a basket ball. It would not shrink any more, but the color it held was remarkable. Some people would see this as a beautiful, priceless jewel. Though to Avrin, he was fighting back a hunger that welled up within himself. When he glanced at this dark core, its scent was the most delicious thing he had ever smelt in his life. Even more so because he was in space with no air. It was as if the dark core itself was trying to entice him by somehow emitting this strange scent.
Giving a soft sigh, Avrin managed to calm himself down. This basket ball sized dark core contained those who trusted him and held hope towards him. At the center of the dark core, a golf ball sized green matter core was present. This was all the hope gathered from those who decided to entrust their lives with Avrin. He wouldn’t betray them.
“It’s done.” His voice sounded out strangely, as if despite the void of space, he could still speak with no interference. He placed his hand onto the dark core and gave it a soft push. In a moment, it seemed to pass through a ripple of space before vanishing in a distortion. Avrin carefully stored it within his dark space.
With the light of the dark core gone, Avrin suddenly realised how gloomy the atmosphere seemed. He glanced around and felt excitement well up within him. Right now he was casually standing in space without dying, and he was considered a god. A newly established god, but a god nonetheless.
Avrin remained still as he carefully thought about some personal matters. Though the gods within the palace gazed at him. “What is he standing around for?” Mallaku curiously asked, feeling somewhat confused. “Your guess is as good as mine. To think a planet could be done in like that... Did he absorb it?” Tialoc replied with his own question.
“-If this is part of some unique ability he has, then it makes him even more dangerous. Turning planets into energy, and one that doesn’t resemble mana... Just who is he-” The one thinking this was Ishana. She seemed to be more perceptive than Zephiron, who simply feared being killed by Avrin.
“What’s done is done. Now that it’s settled and that matter is out of the way, he can keep his side of the bargain.” Septim gleefully smiled, his hands twitching a little as if he wanted to rub them together, but he wanted to maintain his dignified look, thus he didn’t.
Zephiron was quiet. He looked at the pool that reflected the still Avrin. Whatever chance he felt he had in the past was now gone. If Avrin absorbed Seleria then he would possibly be stronger than Septim. If worse comes to worst, they could always activate the Return Rune that King Lestyn had given them. But it could only be used when they finished their task. Zephiron would rather the punishment from him than to die and possibly be devoured by Avrin.
With several more hours passing by, their discussion suddenly came to a halt as they all felt their bodies shake with unfathomable fear. They turned to glance in a direction. Avrin himself tensed up, his eyes twitching nervously. He glanced behind him, into the depths of space. “He’s here... Damnit, so quick. There was still a day left!”
In the distance, the large, leviathan-like figure of Orphelium was skimming across space. He had a near crazed look as his eyes pierced through space. His mouth opened up as he gave an elliptical roar. This roar itself caused the entire system to quiver somewhat and even shine with a greyish hue to a small degree, showing just how powerful Orphelium was.
Orphelium’s large figure remained still for a moment as he looked into the distance. He spotted the moon with the gods on it, but paid no attention to them. He then looked in the direction that God had promised him his evolution could be achieved in. It was as if a marker was in his head with a large arrow pointing directly overhead of Avrin. Glancing at Avrin the veins in Orphelium’s eyes swelled to a degree as a look of excitement appeared.
“I’VE FOUND YOU!!!” The words seemingly echoed across the vastness of the system. Avrin, despite having stored Seleria, knew that if he was late in converting Seleria he would have failed in protecting these people. Right now, his position could be said to be good. His life was guaranteed to be saved, but he couldn’t help but tremble in the presence of Orphelium. This was a being that had reached the door to becoming a Cosmic Entity and simply needed a key.
And this key just so happened to be Avrin.
