Avrin was skeptical regarding these two, but decided to forget about it. He was sure they had their reasons for not telling him. But he would keep an eye on them just incase. ”Avrin, I believe it is best to leave. I’m sure many wild beasts have already smelled the blood in the air and there may be more bandits”

Shimaru was right, Avrin thought. He nodded and began to walk off as he ignored the wound on his back as it seemed to heal. His body’s natural durability was also surprising at the very least. The arrow piercing an inch into his back didn't hurt as much as he figured it would. Of course this is coming from a general who had been injured many times in the past. This was little to nothing to him.

And even though Avrin was obviously injured in the eyes of the two he seemed to walk as if it wasn't the case at all. Amias spoke “Wow sir Avrin, you took an arrow and your walking as if its nothing! Do you have special mail under your robe?” Avrin shook his head “None of the sort..” Avrin wiped the blood from his face using a cloth from his carry sack.

Shimaru didn't expect avrin to catch onto him and his grandsons ability and didn't pursue it. But he spoke “Avrin, have you ever considered joining a dojo or an academy of sorts before?” Avrin’s ears perked slightly as the conversation as finally about something interesting to him.

“I've considered it but I would prefer to train myself a bit. I am not confident in my martial arts ability. If it wasn't for my power im sure I would be dead without killing even one of those bandits. “

“-power?-” Shimaru thought to himself curiously and spoke as he had figured as much “Ahh I see. Then Avrin you are indeed one with Enigmatic abilities. “ Avrin nodded as he figured it would sooner or later be exposed as the old man picked up on small details easily. “That I am.”

“Ho ho ho! To think I would meet one in my lifetime, the Gods are truly smiling upon me with their generosity today” Avrin didn't reply to the old man's self delusions. Avrin knew the Gods here existed, but to him, after speaking to the one who truly was considered God these were nothing but amebas compared to him. That being said, Avrin still wanted to achieve the pinnacle of power which was on their level even if he himself at the moment was less than an ameba compared to God.

Avrin was starting to feel his wound was healing better. Probably because he tried to focus the dark matter inside his body on the wound, a small augmentation over the injury as if to test how it would deal with it. And surprisingly it was effective.

Although Avrin would still need to change clothing later on. It seemed like the black leather/fur outfit underneath was also damaged and didn't have enough durability to withstand the arrow, but Avrin was sure it helped with stopping it going deeper. At this point Avrin stopped for a moment and looked around.

“Lets rest here for awhile…” Shimaru and Amias both joyfully went over, following Avrin to a small clearing on the side.

“I'll be scouting ahead a bit. Stay here.” Amias stood up and spoke “But sir Avrin, please let me hel-.” Shimaru gave Amias a lit hit on the head yet again. Amias pouted and quietly sat down “N..Never mind”.

Avrin gazed at Shimaru and they both nodded towards each other to which Avrin headed off into the forest. After he was 3 minutes in, he could see it was quite lush and abundant with life.

He found a small corner that was hidden from view and removed his cloak as well as outfit and examined it. He wore a white undershirt that was similar to the somewhat skin tight outfits they wore in the military where he came from.

He gazed at the tear as well as the blood and began to emit nebula mist around both the tears in the cloak, he also covered over the blood that was soaking them both. “That man is hiding something, but what is it...I was sure he wasn't capable of defending himself but those two corpses….From a glance they seemed to be dispatched easily..” Avrin began to think as he repaired his equipment. The nebula mist was eating away at the blood, turning it into small particles of matter. And the tear in the cloak as well as the top seemed to repair itself as if the dark matter itself was used as fabric replacement.

The wound on Avrin’s back was all but healed. But he was certain that it wouldnt mean much with his current strength level. If he met an expert, they would most likely be capable of killing him in a few seconds.

As Avrin finished repairing his equipment, he began to head back to where the makeshift rest site was. But not after pulling out a chunk of dried jerky and eating it on the way.

As he arrived he saw Amias doing push ups and Shimaru over a pot which seemed to have an aromatic smell emanating from it.

“Ahh Avrin, welcome back. Hopefully things ahead are good?“ Shimaru spoke to which Avrin nodded. “Doesn't seem like any creatures are in front of us. I’m sure the ones behind are too busy eating away at those remains, so I’m not worried about that.”

“Sir Avrin, can you teach me the magic you use?.” Not only avrin but Shimaru was somewhat stunned at those sudden words. Avrin’s eyes twitched a bit under his hood as he thought to himself “-Not even if my life depended on it.-” Avrin smiled and spoke out to him then “Sorry Amias, this ability isn't capable of being taught, and I don't think I would make a great teacher.”

Avrin’s words might have been considered a lie, but Amias wasn't an idiot and could tell the tone he spoke in was a -no- sort. So he nodded and sighed. “That’s fine. I'm sure I'll learn magic one day” Amias spoke to which Shikamaru replied “I’m sure you will. Maybe we can convince that father of yours to let you become a mage instead” He spoke as he stirred the pot.

Things went smoothly for a half hour and they finished up and things were packed. “Avrin, we are nearing the a forked road. The left path leads to our home while the right leads to the mountains where you would be free to train.”

Avrin nodded and smiled to himself as he was getting closer to breaking out of his weak level. Maybe when he got stronger and was sure in his strength he would join an academy. “Of course sir Avrin, if it is ok with you, I would like you to come with us. I want to reward you as well as offer you something you will find quite useful”

Avrin’s interest yet again was piqued. It would indeed be fair for him to receive a reward. Then again, he was certain that Shimaru was lying to him. What was stopping him from trapping Avrin like the sylphs and finding someone to sell him to as a slave.

As they continued further down the road Avrin had told Shimaru he would think about it. But ever since he spoke that, he had a feeling of worry. As if they were being watched. This was confirmed when he augmented his eye he noticed several humanoids dashing around like mad acrobats across the trees. Their mana seemed small, but Avrin guessed these were experts who tried to hide it.

Avrin wondered if these were a higher tier of bandits after revenge. Shimaru seemed to stop and Avrin stopped to as he turned back “Is something wrong?” Avrin spoke softly.

Amias seemed to be casual and didn't mind as he looked around, but Shimaru then called out “You all need more training, you make as much noise as a dying Leophat” Shimaru called out to which Avrin blinked. It seemed this man was indeed holding out on him. Even Avrin could barely hear them without augmenting his ears. In a swift moment, 5 black blurs dashed across the path. Avrin could barely notice 4 of them with his right eye which was not augmented but the 5th one which came from the left, he didn't notice at all. Even with the augmented eye. 4 individuals clad in black and purple attire quickly rushed in a line and kneeled down in front of Shimaru and spoke in sync “Welcome back Elder and young master” While the 5th one appeared behind Avrin and held a large kunai like blade to his throat

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“Grandfather….Who is this man?...” A young sweet voice sounded out. It was strong, yet feminine. Avrin would feel reassured if she had a scent but he couldn't even smell that. The only thought that came to his mind was one word “Ninjas?...” He was stunned. In a world such as this, the possibility of ninjas/shinobis would be high, but out of all the times, he had to meet them now.

And even more so the 4 in front of him were kneeling in front of Shimaru with Amias beside him. Avrin dared not move an inch even as the blade gave a slight cut against his throat with his red blood dripping down across its stainless edge.

Shimaru called out “Ayame, lower your weapon…” The female snorted quietly and spoke “This man knows of our existence, he shouldn't be allowed to live…” Shimaru glared as he emitted a baleful aura that engulfed Ayama. But even Avrin felt it. Such a powerful aura from a man that could easily kill him within the blink of an eye. One of a killer’s. Ayame shuddered and backed off as she panted and kneeled down “F..Forgive my insolence grandfather…”

Shimaru relaxed then gazed at Avrin “I suppose I owe you an explanation, but we should head to the estate first first…” The 8 individuals began to walk towards the left path. It didn't seem like Avrin had much of a choice in the matter. Then again it would be interesting to hear things out. The 8 began to travel down the left path before going off it and turning left even more so. After continuing on they reached a large arch entrance made of wood and entered. The 4 ninjas left after Ayame told them to leave.

Ayame also gazed at Avrin as if trying to figure out what was so special about him. She really wanted him gone. Avrin would be happy to oblige as he had no reason to stay.

“Ayama take Amias to his father. I need to speak with my guest” Ayame bowed respectfully “Yes grandfather” She then gazed at Amias and glared to which Amias began to sweat a bit. She went over and grabbed him by the ear and began to pull him off while calling out “You didn't wash the dishes before you left. I knew you would pull some cheap trick like that.” Amias had an almost pitiful expression “ow ow OW! Sorry sorry sorry!!” Even as their voices faded as they left Shimaru smirked and entered a large dojo like building which seemed to be guarded by several people who didn't wear that ninja equipment. But this was a more oriental style of clothing between chinese and japanese.

Before avrin went inside he took another look at the other buildings. One was an incredibly large mansion which had servants tending the front yard, the others seemed like miniature dojo like buildings such as this one.

Avrin entered the building and looked around, still quiet after he nearly had his throat slit by Ayame. “I apologise for everything Avrin.” Shimaru removed his cloak to reveal his appearance. He had a long white beard and wore what seemed like a hakama. He also had a patch of white hair in the form of a ponytail like an old style samurai would. His face seemed to have a few scars and his chest, which was somewhat revealed, had scars as well but also showed the incredible amount of muscle he had for his age.

Shimaru sat down cross legged and gazed at Avrin. To whom went over and sat down 4 meters in front of him. Avrin was more awkward then nervous, if he didn't know better he could have sworn he was on earth in a dojo. “Shimaru, what is the meaning of all this….”

Shimaru chuckled quietly “Ho ho ho!. I’m truly sorry Avrin, I didn't know my granddaughter would cause such a commotion. I had intended to allow things to transition better. But as you have already seen it couldn't be avoided.”

Apart from his cliche Santa like laugh, Avrin was starting to become annoyed with him. He felt as if he was being toyed with. “Then if things are settled I should take my leave…” Right before Avrin was about to stand Shimaru spoke “Avrin, you are indeed unique. The potential you have is incredible. I promised you a reward and a reward I shall give” At this point things were starting to sound a little better and he sat back down. “Very well” Shimaru smiled and spoke again “My people come from the northern continent, the empire-less continent where people are free to do as they please. In the eastern part of that continent, a culture was born where they trained in ways never seen before on Seleria. This culture believed that magic alone could not guarantee survival in the wilds and in battle. One needed to be flexible and strong in heart, mind, and soul. Move like the wind and be as silent as a leaf floating off a tree. To be one with nature while still retaining their deadliness..”

Avrin was starting to think he was being given a history lesson as a reward. Then again, it is not like he needed anything. And information was always good, especially the words empire-less northern continent. From what he already knew, it had no ruler and everything was set by its inhabitants. A candidate for a future empire, but that thought was for another day. Avrin continued to listen.

“This culture had many enemies who would want to steal its secrets. Mages who would be as deadly as assassins, warriors with their already brute strength who could move like the wind and have the agility of rogues. This culture could be capable of allowing such methods. And people wanted it to strengthen their own army...Especially during the first great war.

After the demons invaded and attacked us we could not match up to their magic and they nearly destroyed our culture… With remnants my forefathers spread like nomads throughout the northern continent, but no one would help us, which is when we came here after the sylph offered us assistance. And from then on out Agrianea became our home with only the leaders of the sylph and a few others knowing our existence. This way we were able to practice our martial art. Our clan, the White Dragon Clan, has been able to develope Shadow Kill Techniques, ever since the northern continent of Ailera till now we have honed this technique to protect us and destroy our enemies.

Avrin was skeptical regarding all this. Surely something great wouldn't be all that impressive if demons using magic was able to destroy them.

“Avrin, what I forgot to mention was that, although our culture lost against the demons, our warriors without the help of angels were able to kill many of them in the process...They didn't expect us humans to be strong but we fought back. Even though I know you are a demon, I hope my low grudge doesn't deter you from believing me”.

Avrin remembered he mentioned he was a demon, so he was in a situation at the moment. It seems all this man did was tell him a summary of his culture and its history up until how they got here. “I am thankful for this information you have given me Shimaru. Then if this is my reward, I would like to leave now”

Shimaru shook his head “Avrin, I would have liked you to know this cultures existence before I offered the real reward. Avrin, I would like you to train here under the guidance of the White Dragon Clan. I can promise you one year of training will be worth 5 years of training in the mountains under my personal guidance.”

Quiet is what was heard in the room as Avrin gazed at him from under his hood. He pondered the situation. Although he had lied to him before, Avrin knew he wasn't lying now. It would be more convenient. Then again, he knew nothing about the people in this clan, and that Ayame girl wanted him dead. Was his safety even guaranteed?
