The creature vanished into a transparent blur before appearing behind Avrin, its scythe already swinging diagonally towards him. Avrin could only quiver in fright as he quickly bent his body backwards, using the agility and reflexes he had trained for several years.

As he did, the scythe cleaved across the air in the former position he was in, narrowly missing him by several centimeters. Avrin was so close, he could feel the energy radiating from the blade.

The scythe sent out a massive shockwave that gave a banshee like screech before it went off to decimate some unlucky mountain.

Avrin gazed upward at the creature that was recovering from the powerful slash, and took advantage of the situation. He quickly placed his hands onto the ground, using the flexibility of his body, and kicked upwards towards the creatures chin, managing to catch it with a powerful blow.

The dopplegangers jaw cracked as it made a deep grunt like sound before its body shot up into the air a dozen meters, clearly stunned. Avrin didn’t want to ruin this advantage as he clenched his fists. Using a quick augmentation, he managed to augment his arm in two seconds, and the creature was clearly recovering.

With a powerful slash, he used the strength in his hands to send 10 dark matter like claw waves towards the creature, each spanning two meters in length and 5 inches in diameter. Avrin knew this attack was something new that he hadn’t tried, and most likely would only buy him a few more seconds.

But it was enough for him to reform a claymore with a more condensed dark matter material for durability, wanting something that would be sturdy and not necessarily sharp to at least protect himself with.

As the creature blocked and deflected several of those claw waves, Avrin, gripping the hilt of the claymore with both augmented hands, slashed it upwards with all his might. “Hah!!!!!!!!!” He yelled out, the powerful blade turning into a near purple electric blur before shattering at the strength he put into the slash.

The claymore managed to send a large shockwave towards the creature, that at this point was only a meter and a half from Avrin, intending to clash head on.

But it was met with a surprising look before the shockwave collided with the scythe’s frame and pushed the creature upwards. The scythe’s frame easily managed to split the energy wave in half, but the force from the shock was already transferred into the dopplegangers body.

Bones had shattered and it spat out what appeared to be tar like blood. Avrin of course, wanted to atleast keep the creature on its feet. He wanted to be the one on the offensive, and had already began to emit a nebula mist, as the creature was now nearly 200 meters in the air from the energy of the shockwave.

The nebula mist transferred around the area while Avrin kept his eyes on the creature that was struggling to recover in mid air. “I’ll be sure to treat you well..” Avrin gave a sly grin before the nebula mist had vanished into the ground. The creature, after ten seconds of trying to recover, smashed into the ground.

Of course, by then it had already stabilized itself, and landed on its feet, only causing a several meter long crater with dust kicking in the air. The creature looked at Avrin with furious eyes as it branded its scythe behind itself. “Not very smart are you..” Avrin criticised it without holding back.

He would then raise both his hands as dark matter emitted from them both, as if transmitting a signal “Shadow Wall…” The ground in a span of one hundred meters surrounding the creature and Avrin, began to rumble, before large mirror like walls at least ten meters tall and two meters in diameter sprung up from them.

This was the result of Avrin’s more powerful and trained version of his Shadow Wall technique. The creature, although appearing to be a copy of him, didn’t seem to know or even care about this ability, as it charged towards him. It slashed its scythe downwards, but that appeared to be a mistake.

Before its scythe could even emit that energy, a Shadow Wall to the left of the creature fired off a pillar like projectile that smashed into the side of the creature’s waist. The sounds of broken bones made Avrin’s ears twitch and his smile widen before the pillar seemed to explode right after it had hit the creature.

The purple cloud, as well as the force, didn’t budge the other shadow walls, but the shockwave and sound would most likely be heard for at least a mile and a half. Avrin waited with baited breathe, wanting to see the outcome, and it didn’t seem like he was disappointed.

The creature was on its knees with its arm blown off, as well as the scythe on the ground with its body slightly deformed as it began to emit a metal like substance from its wounds to try and recover.

“Tsk...Like I’d let you.!!” He ran towards the creature before another pillar shot out from behind it, Of course, the creature knew it had to be on guard. It moved its left hand and punched the pillar, it then exploded.

Another dumb move. The creature’s left hand was destroyed, but the force of the explosion, as well as the pillar, didn’t collide with its body, so it was at least less of an effect than the pillar before it. And by now, the right hand of the creature, as well as its body, was nearly 80% reformed.

“Shit, that healing is too powerful.. But..” Avrin had already reached within 2 meters of the creature and and had fired off a void sphere towards the scythe. As the creature’s hand neared the pole of the scythe, it was then blown away, setting its healing back a bit.

It roared out, emitting a large, powerful killing intent that even sent a shockwave that sent chills down Avrin’s spine. But it seemed he enjoyed this battle, and had already reached within a half meter of the creature.

The creature’s shadowed face began to glow, before its mouth opened and it fired off a metallic like spit towards Avrin. Avrin, having just saw its intention, had dashed and rolled, the spit catching onto his cloak, which seemed to turn to ash and began to spread.

Wasting no time, Avrin quickly tore his robe off with his right hand, while grabbing the scythe with the other, his face full of excitement. Not only did he narrowly avoid being turned to ash, but he could already feel the energy emanating from the scythe into his body.

For some reason, he felt that it was much more powerful, and the creature wasn’t using it to its full potential. But he had no idea how well he would do. The moment he turned around to face the doppelganger, his left hand had already reacted, as if to slash the scythe towards it.

The creature, having healed both its arms to 90% from the previous damage, was already smashing them down towards Avrin, but it seems Avrin’s reaction was quicker than the creatures.

In one swift movement, a white line appeared through the creature’s forearms, before they vanished. The creature’s forearms had been cleaved off, and the sky above that seemed to already be distorted as well. The black clouds seemed to quiver. The clouds had separated in the path of the slash. As if decimated.

Avrin, seeing this, as well as the creature being stunned, had only wasted a good second. The creature then quickly turned its back in an attempt to flee, knowing it was no longer in a winning position and it had lost its chance. But Avrin wasn’t having any of it.

“Where do you think you’re going…” Avrin augmented his legs, and caught up quite easily to the wounded doppelganger, and used the sharp end of the scythe to mercilessly impale it from behind its back.

The scythe penetrated straight through. Avrin then raised the impaled creature into the air and grinned with a menacing look. “I have some questions for you before you die…” As the creature squirmed in pain, its body distorted from the now barely recognizable doppelganger to a metal like liquid that wailed in the air.

“Tsk…” Avrin quickly moved back, but the creature, in a now liquid form, sprung towards him in an attempt to try and devour him. “Fuck off…!” Avrin raised the scythe again, slashing it towards the creature. And this time, the effect of a now focused strike was more deadly.

The scythe cut the liquid creature in half and cleaved through the ground, heading off into the horizon and God knows where. Such a powerful weapon. Even though in a life and death situation, Avrin couldn’t help feel giddy with happiness.

The creature on the other hand, wailed, and seemed to form a puddle of metal onto the ground, as if trying to reform. “Doesn’t seem like you want to answer anything...That’s fine with me…” Avrin spoke, not caring anymore.

He placed the scythe down behind him, into the ground, before raising both his hands towards the creature that was near death. As Avrin showed a dark grin, the creature seemed to understand what he was doing.

A deep, dense nebula mist emitted from Avrin’s hands, and combined together to form a powerful void sphere spanning two meters in diameter. The energy of the sphere was so dense and shocking, it caused the air and area around it to ripple and crackle.

Avrin, wasting no more time, fired this towards the creature that seemed to try and flee. But it was too late. The speed of the sphere was too great, and its power quite so. If it still had its weapon, it would be easily able to cut it in half, but in its weakened and unarmed state, it had no chance.

The sphere caught both halves of the creature and began to shrink, even as the creature wailed and shrieked violently. The sphere seemed as if it were condensing the creature’s energy and life force, until it had turned into the size of a grape.

At this point, the grape like sphere was now glowing with a purple and red color as it pulsed. Avrin knew it was his victory, and as the sphere floated to him, he only smiled before taking it in his hand and then placing it in his mouth to devour it.

He had tried this technique with some things in the past over his two year training period, and he discovered it converted living and inanimate things into the energy that made them up. Like a sort of pill.

Avrin had always wanted to try and use this on a foe, but had a feeling that, unless they were powerful, the effect wouldn’t be great. Of course this was his first proper use in battle. He swallowed the sphere of energy and his body and the area were quiet for a few moments.

“Hmm..How disapoin-” Before he knew it, he was on his knees, trembling in pain and agony as energy surged across his body. He felt that the blood in his veins seemed to be undergoing a change, and for every inch it spread, it also began to change his body.

“Urgh...s..shit..”  This pain lasted for a good minute, with the feeling of immense pain as well as a stronger overwhelming power engulfing him. He was feeling more powerful, but the pain was still unbearable.

Just over a minute was all it took for it to dissipate, with him sweating and panting in agony before the pain vanished. He looked around and stood up. He felt like his body was born anew, with his entire body more keener than ever. It was such an amazing feeling. His veins, his blood, his mind, the fibre of his being was filled with the energy of him and the Sky Metal creature.

“Incredible” He felt invincible, and his biceps were were rippling with energy, as if wanting to crush something. Avrin, though looking around, saw that he no longer had any enemies. Which was a little shameful for him considering this new power had no test subject.

Before he knew it, his gaze focused upon the scythe that seemed to remain. It had a less dominating presence, and seemed to emit a more familiar feeling. As if his soul was now linked to it. He cautiously approached it before reaching for the pole. The scythe then shrunk and turned into a red beam of light.

After it had formed, it shot in a spiral towards his eye before things settled. Avrin had tried to dodge, but it was too fast and it followed him. But he felt it meant no harm any longer, and there was no pain. Instead, he felt his eyes now housed a powerful weapon.

“....Ok then?...” He spoke, confused, before gazing around again. “Now...how do I get out of here..” He looked around, scratching his head before folding his arms. Before long, it seemed he didn’t need to do anything.

The entire area began to shake and distort, as if changing, before it had reformed and phased into a familiar sight. Avrin was quite shocked, because now he was inside the camp sight, and the soldiers and individuals had appeared as if they were always there.

Things seemed to revert back, except that the damage and battle that had taken place in that other world didn’t seem to affect this one. Avrin was quiet for several moments. It didn’t seem like anyone had noticed him. In fact, the soldiers seemed busy packing their things.

“Hmm, morning already?.. I wasn’t gone long…” He whispered to himself and went on as he cautiously approached his own tent. It was beginning to be packed away with Asura already near it, eating at a table with some soldiers.

“It couldn’t be a different dimension...No, maybe a sub reality?..” Avrin began to think. In his universe, they had found evidence of a multiverse. But this didn’t make sense. It didn’t seem like a multiverse to him, it seemed like a copy paste reality just for that battle.

Avrin seemed to be in his own little world as he pondered what had happened. He began to think, as if trying to put things together, even stopping several meters away from the table where breakfast was being served. He seemed to be gazing at the ground, thinking to himself.

“That was indeed the Sky Metal.. Just what happened?…” His concentration was broken by the voice of his servant. “Master, come eat!” Asura spoke as he was clutching a large leg of some poor creature and devouring it, while his other hand held a mini keg of ale.

Even the soldiers around him seemed a little frightened at his limitless appetite. Avrin smiled at him and went over and sat beside him. One of the soldiers then spoke to Avrin. He seemed quite young, in his early 20’s

This soldier seemed to know, as well as the others, that their leader placed a lot of importance on Avrin and Asura. Word had gotten around that they were powerful Enigmatic level users. “S..Sir, is it true that you’re an Enigma level user?..”

Avrin blinked, gazing at the boy. His cloak torn and his clothing dusty, as if he had been in battle. Asura burped and it seemed to cause many to flinch in fear. As if a creature was attacking. But they calmed down as Asura laughed.

“Hahaha, of course my Master is this Enigma thing! He is powerful and unique!! And Master, why are you dirty? Did you fight something or someone?..”

Avrin frowned, seeing Asura speak for him. But it was at least good that he recognized his Master’s power. Avrin laughed quietly “I went out for training and fought a few creatures. It’s nothing much.” Asura didn’t seem convinced and replied. “Must have been something powerful to do that damage to you.”

Although Avrin, during the fight, had indeed been damaged, his opponent seemed powerful, but too stupid to use that power wisely. Then again, it was the energy of two gods with no mind. Avrin had no doubt that if it had a mind, it would be able to tap into that energy and effortlessly destroy him.

Thankfully that energy was now his, although he only felt a strong, powerful surge of energy. Avrin had a feeling the real energy was in that scythe that seemed unmatched. “Something like that. Asura, have you no limits in eating..?”

Avrin was a little curious to why Asura ate so much. Of course, his former race ate a lot, but Asura was now eating quite a bit. Asura responded with a smile and a whisper. “Master, I don’t know how, but several weeks ago, I felt like my stomach could no longer be filled, and I no longer felt hunger. So I eat and eat because I like how food tastes.”

Avrin tilted his head. Of course, Avrin could also eat and not feel hunger. The dark matter inside of him would be torn apart in only a few seconds, with the acid in his stomach imbued with dark matter. Of course, that was what he deduced. He wasn’t really sure what change happened to his organs.

In the end though, he only ate rarely. Like in situations such as this, or when he tried to fit in with people to try and not make them feel he was different. He no longer felt a need to eat since his body was steadily absorbing mana and converting it to dark matter to fuel him.

Asura on the other hand, was still too dumb to understand to complexity of the situation, but Avrin didn’t feel like ruining the creature’s fun. To him, it was still a bit innocent. Before long, the entire campsite was put away with the convoy on the move.

With Avrin inside the carriage, reading one of the books, and Asura sitting on top, taking a nap. He hadn’t talked to Gregson, due to him being in a meeting discussing their return to the capital.

Avrin was still trying to piece together the incident.

Even now, he could feel the energy pulsing in his body, as well as the powerful weapon that hid in his eyes. Like they were a storage container.

Several hours later, Avrin could hear the outside was bustling with talk as well as a big commotion and loud noises. The voices of merchants selling their wares as well as the sounds of animals being herded away. Avrin curiously took a peek outside to see that in the distance there was an enormous city and a boundless ocean.

His eyes widened with amazement. This was the first time he had seen an ocean in this world. As well as a proper city. This was an incredible sight to him, and he would surely not forget it. The convoy entered the city with no problem, and began its way across the streets.

The looks of the commoners and merchants gazing with awe as they looked at Avrin’s carriage, wondering who the special person inside was, as well as the large group that was returning and heading to the port.

As the convoy reached a clearing in a reserved area of the port, Avrin stood up and reached over to exit the carriage, but it seemed it was already being opened by an attendant. Who then spoke “My Lord, we have arrived arrived in the city of Rodes. Lord Gregson has asked me to direct you to the Absentina, our carrier ship”

Avrin nodded. By now, he was already wearing a clean set of clothing that he reformed inside the carriage, as he found it would be to annoying to do so in a room. He didn’t have the patience to wait several hours.

The attendant began to lead Avrin through the port. The sight of dock workers along with soldiers transporting large crates as well as materials and equipment to some smaller ships filled the port. There were also people on the far railings watching. Mostly children with their parents who watched with curiosity and pointed with excitement.

The children in this world seemed to show interest in soldiers and knights. Avrin wondered what the big deal was. Maybe it was because of the promise of adventure and glory, or because they were strong warriors.

Before long, Avrin’s attention was now fixed on an incredibly large ship that made even him gaze with awe. It was enormous. Not only was it made from some weird wood, but it also seemed to have metal, as well as an aura emanating from the materials.

Most likely due to the size of the ship, the materials needed to be reinforced. Then again, it was considered a carrier type vessel. It would be disappointing if it wasn’t at least this big. Considering the amount of humans in the capital’s army, they would need many ships like this to get them around safely.

“Interesting.. So I guess magic really does have its uses. Smaller ships won’t be considered fodder. Then again..” Avrin looked around to see that several small ships were being loaded with equipment. He wondered why they were loaded on there instead of this large vessel.

Avrin was led up a wide ramp that soldiers were going back and forth across. The only thing they seemed to bring in was weaponry and provisions for the trip. The ramp itself seemed guarded well, not even a small rat had a chance of getting on board.

Before long, Avrin encountered Gregson, who was speaking to what appeared to be a high ranked soldier. “What do you mean a tornado….You think this vessel can’t handle one?…” Gregson seemed to roar at the man who shuddered.

“M..My Lord, it’s just as its said..This tornado is a rare occurrence...When the Mana in the area becomes too packed, the excess will have no space, and it interferes with nature….The weather itself was bad, but now a Mana tornado has formed...It would rip this ship to shreds…”

The man was holding a large staff that seemed to be made from a white oak. It had a clean polish, as well as a red and blue stone that gave off a faint glow. Gregson folded his arms and clenched his teeth “Shit...We are on a deadline and now this happens…” Gregson frowned.

Avrin was curious and had overheard everything. A tornado infused with Mana indeed sounded terrifying. But he didn’t seem to worry much. “Lord Gregson.” Avrin softly spoke, to which Gregson turned and gave a faint smile.

“Ahh, Sir Avrin. I’m sorry you had to hear that. It seems we will have to postpone our departure.” Avrin also frowned. He was looking forward to the capital. “A Mana tornado..Can you tell me more about it?”

Avrin curiously asked Gregson, then looked towards the man who wore armor and a cloak but seemed to be a sort of mage. It was Avrin’s first time seeing a human mage and caster other than Myra and a few common ones.

The mage was a bit confused but, Gregson’s nod made him clear his throat. “Uhh ehm.. Mana tornados are a natural occurrence when mana gathers and is too plentiful. The excess Mana will run rampant and cause disturbances. Bad weather makes this even worse.

A Mana tornado is a tyrant of the seas or the land. The land because of the amount of life, such as grass and such, that pack this Mana up. The excess Mana is less than the seas, where the the life above the surface of the water is nearly non existent.

That being said, Mana tornadoes usually span several hundred meters in diameter, and are incredibly powerful. Their power is at least as strong as a mid-legendary level spell. If one formed in a city, that city would be decimated beyond recognition.”

Avrin figured as much. In a world such as this, it only makes sense that natural disasters would be more dangerous than on earth, or even have a larger variety. “Thank you.“ He spoke to the mage. “Lord Gregson, I’m sure you know what you’re doing. Since we will be departing at another time, I will be paying the city a visit.”

Gregson nodded. “That seems fair. I won’t bore you on this ship, Sir Avrin. I’ll have guards escort you.” Avrin shook his head “That won’t be necessary. Myself and my comrade will be more than enough.” Avrin then began to walk off.

“-I know the scythe is incredibly powerful, it’s a weapon made of two gods. But I have no idea how to use it properly. I won’t let my ego as well as my new found strength be my downfall. It’s best to play it safe-” Avrin thought as he walked off to find Asura.
