Septim remained in a cold sweat with a look of shock on his face. In half the time it takes for a heart to beat, 1% of his total mana pool had nearly been absorbed. The sinister aura of Limos which had used his brand as a conduit to reach him had frightened Septim greatly.
“What a terrible feeling, but no doubt it is the same feeling formed by God Essence. How is this possible, God Essence on this planet?! And it was even forged? Or maybe it was imbued into that thing…? This is incredible.” A look of excitement flashed in Septim’s eyes as he stood up slowly and carefully, trying to calm himself down.
He had felt branding Avrin would lead to some form of entertainment, but never would he have expected that it was the cause of a dangerous situation. “In any case, it was a good idea not to kill him. Somehow, the impossible has become possible, and he possesses something even cosmic entities would tear up galaxies for. Having my planet within a spatial barrier was a good plan. I can only hope none of those high leveled gods pass by and sense it.”
As if Septim thought of something, a twisted look of fear and worry appeared on his face. The images of shadowy silhouettes larger than planets and as big as a normal person but each carrying a feeling and memory of terror that could frighten him greatly.
“What am I to be afraid of! If I can find the method that boy used to craft or imbue that power into a weapon, even I can hope to match those powerhouses. Me and the others are hiding in fear of being caught up in battle, but if I can obtain and use the power of God Essence, I can end this experiment early and forge my own empire!“
Septim’s body quivered in excitement, his mana surging around with anticipation, causing the white hall he was in to shake and crack slightly.
“No! I can’t rush things. If I aggravate him and brand him there is a possibility I may even lose my life. Making an enemy out of him at this moment is out of the question, I need to find a different solution to how I handle things. My biggest question is how God Essence was found here! I need to carefully examine this with the others. If I missed out on anything, maybe I can use it as a bargaining chip with that creature.”
“I will watch the world a bit more. I’ll let him have his fun with this experimental planet and tinker. If I can discover his purpose, maybe I can bring him to my side. Of course, branding him is also out of the question. I shouldn’t even think of doing so for those close to him either. In any case, I need to search for any remaining God Essence. To think this solar system had not just one, but two chunks...if any of those ancient ones discover this, this galaxy would be shredded apart in search of it.”
Shaking in fear, Septim was even more determined to keep things under wraps. Avrin’s Limos had left him with many questions and even set him in a secret frenzy for a search. While things concluded, Avrin was still shaken up by what had happened, his body quivering slightly from Limos’s actions, but he was also extremely excited. He felt the brand was removed and with the actions of Limos no doubt it was thanks to that.
He silently snickered, seeing that if he was branded again he may have found a permanent way to remove it. Nebula Mist surged out of Avrin before forming into a circular disc. The disc itself was slowly forming until it formed completely.
Ever since the Kirin ate the shield he had purchased in the Twisting Lands, Avrin felt wronged. He was planning to give it to Eitri in hopes of him getting some inspiration, but the Kirin had eaten everything. Avrin was only impressed by the fact that it managed to devour the shield as if it were nothing.
He looked at the imperfect copy of the shield he had seen before, clenching his teeth slightly. “You devoured a potential treasure, I will make sure you train hard and become useful to me..” Avrin had a bitter feeling in his heart but pushed it away. He was certain the Kirin was rare, after all it had managed to react to his Divine Sense.
“Shandian, we are heading to the northern continent.” Avrin spoke in a soft tone. He knew that his Beginner Type 8 particles were nearing the peak of that level. The book within his consciousness stated that once he entered Type 9, which is the second stage, he would be in a weakened state while his particles underwent a sort of metamorphosis. He prefered to be where his kind was to undergo this process.
“Master, I can finally see the others!” Shandian was clearly excited and it hopped about like a human child that was going to the amusement park. Avrin, of course, was also in a good mood due to the brand finally being removed.
Though, if the god had wanted to brand him again, he felt it would be easy for them. But, judging by how they didn’t, it could only be that Limos had done something to keep them away. In any case, staying here was not a good idea.
Avrin’s Divine Sense engulfed both him and Shandian and then expanded out across Seleria before reaching the northern continent. Although the minute details were not so clear, Avrin could still clearly feel the humanoid figures no longer made from mana but of dark matter. The stronger the dark matter was, the easier it was for Avrin to pick up.
“-It seems Kael made it safely-” Avrin thought with slight relief when he detected Kael. He was currently at the peak stage of the Master level. He also detected Eitri and Erebus who were both also at the peak Master levels. Of course, as he felt around he noticed that the strongest signature within that area was Asura, who was at the early Grandmaster level, though he was not within the the area the other Spectrals were, but at least a couple days travel away.
“-Why is he around humans?-” Avrin curiously thought before he focused even more. He noticed that his Divine Sense that had expanded out also reached the city of Altea. He detected another dark matter signature, this one at the mid Grandmaster level.
“-That must be the one I was looking for, though at this moment it wouldn’t be good for me to go there until I make my breakthrough. I will let you enjoy yourself for the moment-” Avrin quietly thought before he gazed at the eager Shandian who had remained quiet.
He quickly used his Divine Step, turning him and Shandian into dark ash that soon warped and vanished. It only took a few seconds before they both appeared within the northern continent. Of course, Avrin had not decided to go to where his people currently were, but to where Asura was.
“Sir Asura, it has been a couple of years since the day you saved my humble town. Ever since that incident, the damn capital still won't send reinforcements!” A small, round individual with short hair in brown and blue noble attire frowned a little as he held a small cup of wine before laughing softly. One could see despite his appearance he gave off a friendly, fatherly feel.
The individual who he was speaking to was a tall, burly, robed individual with a human looking face and a large beard. His appearance was a bit ragged, but this was, of course, Asura, who had learned how to change his appearance from Kael when he arrived.
“Who needs reinforcements when you have me! These stinky trolls won’t even dare step foot near the area anymore, which means your hunters can go around as they please.“ Asura, who was holding a large drumstick, was eating with a look of satisfaction.
The round man, who was the mayor of the town, laughed and nodded. “Of course! You know, I can’t thank you enough for that. The capital sends many groups here to see if they can gain a foothold, but that damn king of ours never assists us. It’s a miracle we have survived this long. If it’s not trolls, it’s bandits or raiders.”
The man frowned as he remembered countless outposts and towns that had been made previously over the years which were wiped out because of these. In fact, his own town would have joined the numbers had it not been for Asura.
“How could I let a town that makes such good food perish! Hahahaha!” Asura began to laugh. In front of him was a table filled to the brim with an assortment of cuisine. Of course, not one was missing meat.
“Of course, Sir Asura, eat as much as you please. Thanks to you, there is plenty more supplies. Actually, I wanted to discuss something with you regarding a small expedition if-” Before the man could finish, a knock on the door sounded out.
“Hmm? Come in.” The mayor spoke out, to which a guard adorned in leather and chainmail armor appeared and then spoke with a nervous look. “Lord Mayor, the representative from the capital has arrived and is waiting for you in your office.”
The mayor frowned before sighing and rubbing his forehead then standing up. “Forgive me for parting early, Sir Asura. You know how these representatives are ever since we managed to establish ourselves.”
Asura simply laughed and spoke in reply. “It can’t be helped. They want to take as much advantage as they can from you now, hahahaha!” Asura laughed again. The mayor simply gave a bitter smile in agreement before bowing. “Stay for awhile longer, I will be back in a half hour.” With that said, the mayor left.
As he and the guard walked out, the guard couldn’t help but speak. “Lord Mayor, out of curiosity, just who is that Sir Asura? It has been two years yet we know little of him and he only comes here to eat.”
The Mayor gave another bitter smile before replying. “Your guess is as good as mine. Every attempt at friendship has been met with awkwardness. It’s as if he treats this place as a restaurant and nothing more. Regardless, he still saved us and is a hero. With him around, we can easily feed everyone here, so this is the least we can do!”
Asura was continuing to gouge himself but with his hearing he still picked up on the words said. It was then that Asura stopped eating for a moment and frowned. “That damn Kael.... Ever since he came, everyone is giving him all the attention and saying he is a young hero!”
Asura’s lips quivered a little and some crumbs stuck in his beard loosened and fell. Of course, Asura didn’t like attention to begin with, but inwardly it filled his ego. When Kael arrived nearly two years ago, he was greeted with caution at first, until he revealed Avrin had sent him, and with him doing his best to help out their race, everyone was looking up to him. Some people even went as far as to want to become his disciples and some families had tried to offer their daughters’ hand in marriage.
Asura had lost a lot of attention and Erebus didn’t bother him anymore since Kael was willing to help. Asura had nothing to do but come here where he was still appreciate and bask in the limelight.
“Hmph!... At least here I am appreciated, and the food is much better than that dark matter made crap!” Asura picked up another drumstick and was about to chomp down on it before a soft, familiar voice sounded out behind him.

“Dark matter crap? You endlessly eat, and are still a gluttonous pit...” Asura, hearing this, at first wondered who it was. He then felt that maybe a Spectral followed him. “Who the hell do-”
Turning around, Asura glanced over to see a black cloaked figure with a white, horse-looking creature with a small horn gazing dumbly and quietly at Asura. Asura, of course, looked at the individual first. His Divine Sense expanded over him the moment he had spoken, but Asura wasn’t able to tell what level this individual was. It was as if he wasn’t even there.
“Y...You....” Asura was not as dumb as before and had matured and gained quite a bit of intelligence. He broke out in a cold sweat, quickly got up and knelt on the ground. Although he couldn’t feel this individual’s aura and presence, it was a cold, dark, scary feeling.
“M...Master!” Asura quickly knew that only one Spectral would have this weird, alien-like feeling, and that was the one who converted him. Avrin, who was leaning near the window with his arms folded, grinned a little “Well, you’re not as dimwitted anymore, you quickly recognized me. It’s good you have gotten smarter.” Avrin spoke in a harsh compliment.
Avrin had Divine Stepped in a hidden area before the mayor had vanished and he secretly Divine Stepped again inside to see Asura. “Why are you here, Asura?” Avrin hadn’t overheard the conversation. Asura simply glanced at him and cleared his throat.
“Well..Master, I...” He then glanced over and saw Shandian had rushed over to the table and was starting to eat as much food as it could. “HEY, THAT’S MINE!!” Asura felt like tearing up. Avrin blinked, as he was now dealing with two constantly hungry buffoons. His Divine Sense engulfed them both before the three of them turned into dark ash and vanished from the room.
They reappeared several miles away, on top of a small, rocky hill. Asura, though, felt his heart jump. “-Master has gotten much stronger...I wish I could do that-” He quietly thought. Shandian, of course, had a bone from a piece of meat in its mouth as it glanced dumbly at Avrin and then Asura while it chewed on the bone.
“Explain, Asura...” Avrin’s intention was that his people were to seclude themselves and not have anything to do with the outside world until he arrived. Of course, Asura could see the cold, curious look Avrin had and began to explain things from the beginning.
Several minutes later he was concluding it all. “So, Master...I felt maybe we could use this town as a sort of cover and I was trying to make use of it!” Asura was nervous, not sure if Avrin would believe him or not.
Avrin showed an expressionless gaze. He knew Asura’s intention in staying after these two years was not really to use the village but to eat its food and bask in the limelight, though he hadn’t revealed anything and had stayed anonymous, which was a good sign that he had gotten more intelligent.
“Very well, I’ll forgive you for this. I am not a cruel person. As long as you keep your true identity hidden and not cause our people to become discovered, you can continue to visit.” Avrin didn’t want to become heartless. He knew a good subordinate would be one that was spoiled a bit. Asura, hearing Avrin’s acceptance, felt relief and quickly bowed. “Thank you, Master, thank you!” Glancing at Shandian, who had approached and started sniffing him, Asura felt a bit irksome. “Master, what the hell is this thing? Can I eat it?” Asura asked.
Shandian, who had heard this, frowned and growled like a dog before biting Asura’s leg. “Ah!!“ Asura jumped away as he felt the pain. He then glared at Shandian with a face of fury.
“You....little bastard...” Asura mumbled with his fists clenched. Dark matter surged around him, causing the ground to crack a little. Shandian, who wasn’t as strong as him, clearly felt fear and rushed over to hide behind Avrin. “Master! That bearded dumbo wants to eat me… Please smack him!” Shandian urged Avrin in a teary tone. Of course, Shandian had long since been able to communicate with the proper vocals, as its body had adapted somewhat.
“Asura, this is Shandian, a special creature I have invested in. It isn’t something to eat nor to hit. That is until it becomes stronger, you are not to lay a finger on it.” As Avrin spoke, Asura glared at shandian. Avrin turned to look at Shandian as well. “You are not to be a wimp. Once you become stronger, I think both of you sparring will be beneficial experience as long as neither of you kills the other.”
Shandian quivered a little as it gazed at Avrin with a look of astonishment, then Asura, who was now grinning and cracking his knuckles. It turned to look at Avrin with a pleading look, but he simply sighed and shook his head, definitely amazed at how much of a wimp this creature was. He felt it was still a child, so it couldn't be helped for the mean time.
“Master, you will be heading over to the mountain home now? I will bid you farewell and return to the town to cont-” Asura was interrupted by Avrin, who looked at him strangely. “To continue to eat? Is what you’re thinking. You better start training more, Asura. I could feel Kael’s strength and he is catching up to you. Fine, go back and do as you please.”
Asura quietly chuckled and scratched his dirty beard and bowed again before he turned tail and dashed away. Clearly he was uncomfortable around Avrin and enjoyed his own freedom. Of course, he was still hungry and wanted to eat. Avrin, for the moment, had no use for him and could always contact him with his Divine Sense.
“Master, that bearded bastard is nasty! Can’t you please punish him!” Shandian cried out, wanting Avrin’s favor. “Punish him? Grow stronger and punish him yourself. If you train properly it will be easy for you. Don’t seek others to protect you. I personally converted you, I have high expectations for you, but also at the same time your potential is no less than his. Probably even more so. Don’t let me down.”
Avrin’s words were, of course, meant to light a fire in Shandian to make it train hard and become useful. He couldn’t protect his people every day of the week, he wanted to explore around and needed strong individuals in his stead.
Shandian reacted. As he expected, its body tensed up and it gave a heavy look and nodded with pride. After this, Avrin used his Divine Step again and they both turned into dark ash before disappearing and then reappearing several hundred meters from the mountain entrance.
The reason Avrin didn’t go inside was because he wanted to see what Eitri had done to make it hospitable as well as the other things. From this moment on, whether his people knew if he was here or not was second place. This was his makeshift kingdom, what would he have to worry about now.
Avrin glanced over to see several large mountains and hills that covered around. A man made path that led out was present, but it was well hidden. Avrin began to think as he glanced down to see the entrance with six guards. Of course, they were Spectral and at the peak Expert level. Each one was stronger than the usual Expert and could most likely match a mid level Master. This was the latent power within a Spectral.
Avrin, though, was curious and wanted to test just how strong his people were and how they would react to an attack. The reason for this was the guards seemed to be a bit lazy and sit around and chat casually.
“Shandian, wait here and watch how I test your brethrens’ strength.” As Avrin spoke, Nebula Mist engulfed him. His outfit changed and he was now covered in a dirty grey robe with a large hood that covered his face. Shandian watched curiously, as it was excited to see what Avrin would do.
Many years ago, before Avrin had died, he once faked his identity and neared a space raider hideout. Of course, the raiders were laidback and didn’t think much of him and told him to buzz off. Avrin faked being a cripple and when the raiders neared, he pulled out two silenced laser pistols and dealt with them.
His method was similar here, as he faked a limp and looked like a ragged, homeless individual. He had already willed a very thin coat of dark matter around him to cling onto mana particles and hold them but not devour them.
This was a method he found quite easy to do. It allowed a coat of mana to go around him and make others think he was made from mana. With Avrin’s increase in strength, he would be able to discover new methods and abilities he had previously not thought about until he needed them.
“Huh?” Just then, one of the guards, who was adorned in red, plate-like armor from head to toe glanced over and pointed. Though a few of them had Divine Sense, it was not extended at the moment, as they were in a lazy mood “Who the hell is that?” The guard uttered before they all turned to look.
Each one glanced at the ragged, hidden Avrin with a strange expression before one’s Divine Sense went out and engulfed him. “Shit, it’s not one of ours. What do we do? This is the first time this has happened! Is it a homeless person? How the hell did he get here?”
The six mumbled to each other, wondering what to do. One of them laughed and spoke. “Lord Erebus stated that no one is to know of us, let’s just kill him. Besides, the mana he has can be converted into a Dark Core. Just consider it a snack.”
Hearing this, Avrin’s expression darkened. Unless one was an enemy he was sure of, he wouldn’t convert them to a Dark Core, and even then unless it was an enemy he truly hated he wouldn’t do it while they were alive.
One of the guards casually walked over to Avrin and laughed. “Hey you...damn its a shit day to be you. I’m gonna have to kill ya, blame your own luck.” The guard raised the large halberd made from dark matter, and then slashed it down towards him with no hesitation.
Avrin stopped and glanced with his face hidden. The moment the halberd smashed down onto his shoulder, it broke into fragments as if it were glass smashing against a boulder. The stunned look of the guard was like a deer in headlights.
The other guards were stunned as well, but in a heartbeat, Avrin extended his left hand and grabbed him by the neck before raising him up from the ground. “You have a lot to learn. You’re still so weak....”
The guard was gasping and trying to move Avrin’s hands but they wouldn’t budge. It was then that four of his comrades rushed over to try and help him while another rushed inside to get other Spectrals.
Avrin threw the guard he held like a ragdoll towards the oncoming guards. One was hit and sent flying while the other three charged towards him each with their own weapon of choice. “Die!” They roared out with intent to kill.
“Weak or not, not hesitating to kill a strange intruder is a gamble. though one who attacks is a different story. Let me see how strong you have all become!”
