Ayame froze in her spot, but at this moment she had already closed the gap half way to Avrin and was dead in the center of the shadow wall technique Avrin had used. She gazed around in surprise as well as shock, somewhat nervous as she had never encountered magic like this before let alone much magic at all. Shimaru was also quite surprised as his eyes were wide open, not daring to blink as to miss what might occur next.
Ayame heard Avrin’s voice and quickly unsheathed two kunai these kunai were made with the metal Aerium. As the name would imply, it was steel with special properties towards the air affinity making it light, and when thrown it was as if it could fly. It was also quite durable. A perfect material for a shinobi.
“Ayame, I dared not underestimate you...Especially during our first encounter...You have speed going for you so I pondered my situation...And the solution was simple.” Avrin smirked as he was concealed behind dozens of shadow walls.
The wall in front of Ayame began to glow before a large jet black pillar made from dark matter shot out quickly towards Ayame. She was nearly caught off guard, she barely managed to avoid it by jumping to the side. The pillar retracted back into the wall
Where Ayame had landed, behind her another shadow wall began to glow before another pillar shot towards her at an incredible speed. This time she was taken by surprise, barely having enough time to turn and attempt to block it, but the force of the hit had knocked her back several meters and onto the ground after she had hit a shadow wall and slammed down.
“S...Shit...” She coughed up some blood to which Avrin sighed in relief. It seemed he had now gotten the advantage
“Ayame, I don't intend to injure you greatly. Please forfeit…” He spoke not in a boastful manner but he tried to make due with his situation and convince her to surrender. But this was the wrong move on his behalf, he was not dealing with people in his universe who were outgunned. This female shinobi had pride and honor.
“A..Avrin” Ayame spoke softly as she stood up clutching her kunai with a trail of blood across the sides of her lips a large amount of killing intend seeping out of her “You cheap bastard…..I’m going to…”
Avrin blinked as he felt this killing intent. Without hesitation, 2 walls in front and to the side of Ayame shot pillars towards her. But she managed to dodge one expecting it and jump on the other before jumping on the ground again.
“Kill you…!!” Avrin’s eyes narrowed. He had to step up his game. He called out “I won’t lose Ayame…” All the shadow walls began to glow before shooting out rapidly at a lightning pace. This caught Ayame off guard, thinking he could not control them all at once. She had barely dodged a few as the pace they shot out was almost as fast as her. But the pace as well as the placing of the shadow walls was too much and she was hit several times.
Like a ragdoll that tried to protect itself she was hit around while crying out in pain. It made Shimaru almost cringe and Avrin himself who was keen in showing her he was not to be trifled with felt a little pity for her, but he knew he had to beat respect into her one way or another.
A tactic used when training troops when they are disrespectful, beat them down until they submit. Of course this usually only worked with those troops that were aggressive.
Avrin stopped using the barrage of shadow wall pillar’s and lowered his hand which was somewhat numb it was a new technique and creating it overnight exhausted him as well as used quite a bit of energy. Even now he was absorbing mana from the surroundings. Until his body was honed and trained more he could not be as efficient as he wanted.
He didn't want this fight to drag on. Especially against someone like her who has trained for years and was used to fighting. Ayame had laid limp on the ground with her body battered and bruised, but this didn't stop her. She began to twitch a bit before leaning up. Her eyes covered in darkness as they weren't visible. Her hair messed up as it covered her face.
Shimaru was quiet as he dared not interfere in this match. Avrin felt something was wrong. One thing his senses as a general told him was that quiet during a battle was not a good sign. Ayame stood up, clutching her kunai as her hair began to wave around in the faint breeze. A surge of killing intent followed by a surge of mana from inside of her, burst forth.
Shimaru called out first “ A..Ayame you cannot mean to…” A white symbol began to appear on Ayame’s forehead. Avrin couldn't see well physically when his eyes were augmented but the shape of it going from it was like a dragon curled up. The mana that poured into it from her body seemed to condense and turn an extreme white that seemed blinding. Even he squinted slightly.
“Not good..” Ayame suddenly jumped up in a flash before landing on top of a shadow wall. Avrin’s eyes widened as he clenched his teeth. He didn’t have a way to counter when she was on top of it. A negative of a technique developed overnight.
As she rushed towards him her speed seemed twice as fast and she navigated around with no interference. Avrin knew he was in trouble and quickly tried to augment his arms. Even though she was twice as fast he saw her vanish, but her mana then trailed behind him. He quickly moved to turn and block and was met with a powerful kick against his forearms the force sent him crashing towards the middle of the makeshift arena of shadow walls, crashing into a couple that tumbled down onto the ground but still retained their shapes.
Avrin’s forearms had not fully augmented and he could feel several bones were broken, but already being repaired. Shimaru had caught sight of his arms and was quite interested in this ability of his to strengthen a limb.
Avrin stood up as to not give his opponent time to attack again but Ayame was standing still at the place Avrin had previously been.
“I can’t believe I was forced so soon to use this….Argh Avrin...You make me angry.” Avrin’s eyes twitched a bit. Clearly she was making the situation worse then it seemed. He tried to think of a way to get around this, most of his abilities were intended to kill. He couldn't use the void spheres without worry.
Ayame on the other hand, being more trained had better control. She reached to the side of her shinobi attire and pulled out what seemed like two crystals. One black, one white.
She then smirked towards Avrin before throwing the white one in the air. As it moved above the middle of the arena she used a sort of hand sign, Avrin felt a flow of mana that seemed to twist before the white crystal seemed to explode, emitting a bright light that was blinding even to Avrin. He quickly tried to shut his eyes enough to stop it and still see Ayame but she had disappeared.
She had jumped up to avoid the light and use it to her advantage as she was coming down towards Avrin. She used another sort of handsign before the black crystal broke releasing a dark affinity magic that engulfed her body.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
As the white light slowly faded, Avrin saw her mana trail and quickly looked up to see her greet him with another powerful kick. With her body covered in a thin dark aura, the only exception being the white dragon like symbol on her forehead. Avrin was pressed into the ground and a small crater formed as he gasped for air while coughing up blood.
It was the 3rd most painful thing he had experienced. The first being executed, and the second being hit by that elven bitches arrow. Ayame had jumped up spinning in the air before landing several meters away with a smile on her face, still engulfed by that thin black aura.
Shimaru spoke out “Oo, Ayame you have indeed improved, it seems you have managed to pass the intermediate rank and achieve Expert. Remind me to take you to check your spirit stone after this battle.”
Ayame grinned and smiled before replying “I've been training very hard grandfather… Day and night, I won't let anyone surpass me so easily, so won't you consider training me instead? And as for this battle I think it’s already over” She said somewhat smugly.
Shimaru grinned and motioned her to look. She did so before widening her eyes at the crater. She saw Avrin making his way out, panting heavily with his own blood trailing down his lips as he gazed at her and smiled before speaking “T..That hurt...I’ll be sure to return the favor…” He wiped the blood using his sleeve before smirking.
I think I can do this….. He raised his hands before firing several void spheres that shot towards Ayame who quickly took up a defencive stance and smirked. “Those arent going to work against me, Avrin..”
Avrin showed a dark grin as the spheres stopped and hovered around her. “I was afraid I might kill you if I used this...But I’m sure that you can handle it if I try to control it...So be a good guinea pig would you..And stay still”
Ayame clenched her teeth. The same vein from before appearing on her forehead near the white dragon symbol “Guinea what??!!! You little.” Just as she was about to move the spheres burst into void crystals 1x1 in diameter. There were hundreds of them that made escaping from all of them nearly impossible for her current self.
(PR Note: Didn’t really know which measurements to use, so just imagine they’re really small)
She showed a nervous worried look as she gazed around “A..Avrin, what is this…” She spoke worryingly. Shimaru was also quite worried “Hmm...Avrin I think this is a bit too much.”
Avrin only smiled before replying “Don’t worry teacher...I'm confident I can do this...They are not as strong as the ones during that event” This seemed to make Shimaru relax. It was somewhat amusing that he would relax at the thought of his granddaughter being injured.
Ayame glared at Avrin again before raising her kunai. She tried to slash away at the void spheres but for every one she hit, a black scorch mark was left on the kunai where it hit, which seemed to slowly eat away at the tip. This made her gasp and stand still as she looked around.
“Give up Ayame… Last chance…” Ayame spat on the ground before showing a prideful look. “I refuse to giv-” Avrin didn't have the intention of waiting for her to finish. He knew she wasn't going to give in, regardless if the opponent was stronger than him to an extent, or more experienced. It came down to what was known in most cases, and how things were used. He willed the void crystals and they all began to hit towards Ayame who tried to avoid and block.
Several crystals smacked against the thin black aura tearing it like paper and giving little protection, but as soon as spots were open it didn't take long before they hit Ayame’s main body. As if she were hit with a needle and punched in the exact location she let out a scream of pain.
Avrin himself was somewhat annoyed that he had gone through the trouble of making a technique when this had proven more effective. But Ayame’s will would show to be more than he bargained for. As the crystals bombarded her, not so much as to overwhelm her as Avrin didn't want to over do it. She bit her lip and blood ran down not only from the wounds that had been inflicted upon her, but her lips as well.
“D..Damn you...Avrin!!!” She kicked her feet as she charged towards Avrin, and an incredible speed too fast for the crystals to keep up he had let his guard down for a moment but grinned as he had a plan.
Right as Ayame intended to strike with the scorched kunai, she was about to pass over one of the shadow walls that had fallen. Avrin, taking this as an opportunity, used it to his advantage and a large pillar that was larger than then the ones prior had shot up from the shadow wall consuming the remaining dark matter and hitting ayame straight in the stomach, sending her upwards at an astonishing rate. The pillar then disintegrated.
Avrin was smiling happily before blinking and coughing and gazing up. she was quite high up. Maybe a little to high. “That’s higher than I expected….Hmm why isn't she moving?..” Avrin had gotten quite worried. Even though she had been aggressive towards him, he felt no need to kill her.
Ayame was limp in the air. She had been knocked unconscious and was falling rapidly. Avrin had been exhausted from this fight, especially after using so many shadow walls and even the night before, tinkering and trying things out to make it. He fell to his knees as he tried to think of a solution.
He began to rapidly absorb the shadow walls around him as they disintegrated and began to gather. “Not good...My nebula mist won't be able to form anything quick enough..” As Ayame fell near the ground Shimaru vanished in a near instant and jumped up catching her with ease, princess style. He landed with grace and gently laid her down.
“Dear Ayame, you pushed yourself quite a bit for this duel…” He spoke to her, the white dragon symbol long gone from her forehead. Shimaru gazed at Avrin and smiled with a grin “Avrin...If it was anyone else in a different circumstance, I would of had their head by now..But this was to be expected...You exceeded my expectations with your ability..I have seen some more of what you are capable of”
Avrin still clutching his stomach and panting slightly was still absorbing the dark matter and was slowly healing at a quicker pace due to the dark matter reserves being refilled. “She indeed gave me a run for my money...I'm sure she intended to kill me” He joked. To which Shimaru laughed quietly and replied.
“Please do this as a favor to me. Do not rub this loss in her face..She is a prideful girl and not doing so will still crush her, and by doing so, she will be crushed even more.”
Avrin stood up a little and nodded “It was not my intention… Besides, I should thank her. She helped me understand a bit more about my ability”
Shimaru then nodded as he grinned to Avrin and stood up,0 putting his hands in his sleeves before speaking “Well then, you can carry her back” He laughed before vanishing in a near instant. Even Avrin’s augmented eyes could barely see anything but a white, greyish blur. A shocked look on his face.
“That old man...And he is supposed to be my teacher..” Avrin approached Ayame and gazed down at her. She seemed helpless and cuter than her usual self. He sighed. The most worrying thing was if she found out he did this for her. He scooped her up into his arms, the same princess style that her grandfather caught her with, and began to head back to the main building before grumbling. “That old bastard…So much for trust.. Heh “ He made a slight chuckle.
