Avrin felt a bit nervous at Abbadon’s perceptive words, but as he was about to say something to note it, the headmaster gave a nervous laugh and spoke. “Lord Abbadon, this boy here is Herth. He is very special to humanity. He has an Enigma ability that allows some control over the weight of objects! Gaia Academy, as well as the Empire, have shown interest. No doubt this boy’s future is limitless.”
Avrin was on edge, but it wasn't as if he couldn't escape. He was certain his Void Step was quick enough to get him out of here if he managed to catch Abbadon off guard with a Phantom Pulse. That is if the Phantom Pulse was strong enough to affect him.
“Enigma ability with weight increasing properties?!” Even Abbadon was shocked. “Ah, now is not the time.” He eyed Avrin even carefully than the other two and began to question them with no mercy.
“Allowing children to train in this chasm was a mistake on my behalf. I was to lenient and felt that no one could free that man, but I was wrong. What's done is done, and now it needs to be fixed. From today onwards, the Dark Abyss Chasm is to be sealed from all outsiders.”
At the mention of these words, the group of Grandmasters felt their hearts drop. Another reason they accepted such a guard role was because the materials of the creatures here could be beneficial in improving the quality of some magical spells or even increase one's physical strength when given to an alchemist.
The headmaster's face paled a little before he reluctantly agreed. “Y..Yes, Lord Abbadon…” Abbadon nodded and continued. “You there, the boy with the strange hair. Explain to me what you’ve done here.”
Of course, the one he was referring to was Lazgen, who didn't dare talk back. He knew this man was the strongest Sigil wielder and lord of the angels. “My Lord….” Lazgen spoke before he began to explain everything, including the skirmish with Wynfa and how Avrin stopped them.
Avrin, of course, showed a clueless expression with one of a bit of worry. He didn't want to seem too carefree in front of someone who no doubt would even make the king nervous and respectful. “-He is going to question the three of us and look for inconsistencies.
It's a method that requires plenty of time and patience. Especially with the amount of time we have spent here. I guess Abbadon truly despises Azrael. Regardless, such a method won't work on me-”
Nearly six hours were spent for Lazgen and Wynfa to tell him everything in detail. Of course, everyone present had tough bodies and no one seemed phased at all. Abbadon remained calm and gave a piercing look, as if he was trying to make them speak some hidden truth.
He then turned to look at Avrin and said, “Tell me what you’ve done while you’ve been here. If you leave out any details, I’ll know immediately.” Avrin nodded and continued to speak. “Lord Abbadon, just like the other two have said, they engaged in a skirmish the moment the headmaster left us, and I didn't want to cause any trouble for myself by explaining why they were fighting, so I decided to stop them.
After which, I left to head northeast. I was confident in my ability to handle a Master level creature with my ability alone. I do not specialise in magical spells like senior Wynfa does, and I do not specialise in physical strength and martial arts like senior Lazgen.”
Avrin went on to explain how when he came across an early Grandmaster stage creature. He quickly fled, but he had a slight trick. “Lord Abbadon, that creature was chasing me, but for some reason it didn't follow me too far. It stopped in it's tracks and ran off. Of course, I didn't stay for a second longer, but I could hear the sounds of battle.
It caused fear to well up inside of me, and so I headed to the eastern region of this chasm and spent most of my time hidden and meditating. I felt I had a breakthrough in what I lacked when it came to using my ability so I tried my best to develop a new technique.
That was, until the current events occurred. I felt a large energy I assume was yours and then I left to try and find my way back here. I came across one of the seniors, who led me here, and that is all that happened.”
Avrin was cautious with his words. If he said he had killed the creature, then Abbadon would ask for evidence. Thankfully, it was somewhat common for students to engage in mediation after coming with a breakthrough idea to help them develop. It was hard to prove this wrong, but Avrin also gave a small tip by saying that he saw the Grandmaster creature run off and heard sounds of battle.
That being said, within the northern region, there was always a battle between the creatures, which has decimated the area. It would be nearly impossible to pinpoint the exact area.
Abbadon’s looked annoyed, as he couldn't see how Avrin would be able to break the seal. He had checked the temple and it was unbroken and still guarded. One would have to have magic even stronger than his to get through without alerting him, and the only individual with magic more powerful than him was the demon queen, who wielded a Sigil weapon focused on magical spells.
“Rubbish…” Abbadon mumbled to himself as he was trying to put things together. He remained quiet. “Lord Abbadon...should we alert the king?” Said the headmaster. Abbadon glanced over and spoke.
“Yes. Make sure Leo spares no effort in looking for Azrael within this continent. He surely must have used some incredible method to flee. I will have to pay the demon queen a visit. She is the only one with the capacity to free him and leave no trace. Now, I shall be leaving, since there is no point wasting any more time here. I want you all out, and destroy you're academy's teleportation rune. In fact, destroy the entire damn building!”
It was obvious that Abbadon was furious. Everyone began to head over towards the teleportation rune array. It was then that Abbadon reached over and placed a hand on Avrin’s shoulder. This caused Avrin to freeze suddenly.
“You. Herth, was it. Your Enigma ability is one used for combat...this means one day you may reach a point where only us Sigil wielders can stop you...I hope you use your power wisely. Otherwise, I will have to personally end you.”
Avrin, of course, acted nervous and nodded with fake fear in his eyes before heading off. The words spoken were heard by everyone, who looked at Avrin strangely, before they all entered the teleportation rune array. “-We shall see who ends who-” He thought to himself.
The headmaster raised his hand and the group vanished in a flash of light, leaving Abbadon standing there alone. Abbadon gazed at the rune array with a strange look. He began to speak an incantation “By the name of the holy God of Creation, and by the will of the Goddess of Resolve, gaze upon this land and be my sight!” A pulse of transparent, white light emitted from Abbadon’s hands as he raised them up. This transparent coating of energy rippled across the entire chasm with incredible speed, before vanishing.
Abbadon grabbed the air itself and it formed into a sphere of white light that held the image of a kneeling figure. This figure spoke in a soft tone. “My Lord…” The woman said. One could see she was also an angel and showed great respect to Abbadon.
“Miagil, keep an eye on a boy named Herth within the Empire of humanity. I want to know if anything important happens.” He said. “As you wish.” The woman gave a soft reply before the sphere of white light vanished into the air it had been grabbed out of.
“Herth, huh. You may or may not have something to do with this. Regardless, the only beings I am not capable of feeling mana from are the gods themselves. That, and only two creatures gave me the feeling that if I fight them, I will surely die.” He felt a trace of fear. The moment he touched Avrin’s shoulder, he had tried to scan him,
but what he found was that he couldn't feel anything other than a very, very dark, deep hole. He felt as if this void of darkness was so deep that through all of eternity, it may never find anything to fill it up. This made Abbadon very suspicious of Avrin, but also not rash. He would watch him closely. Avrin’s story seemed good and checked out, which left Abbadon to have to be picky with details. He kept this to himself, though.
A week had passed by since that day. The building where the teleportation rune array was housed was long destroyed and removed. The announcement that the Dark Abyss Chasm was not to be opened for the students or any other person caused rumors to circulate around as to why that may be.
Many people tried to ask Lazgen and Wynfa, but they had told them the same thing again and again. The reason was because it had become very dangerous, as there were many Grandmaster ranked beasts. This was a lie fabricated by the headmaster. The truth couldn't be revealed to anyone.
If people knew the demon king, who started a war several hundred years ago, was free, it would cause mass panic. Of course, Wynfa and Lazgen didn’t know that the temple was a prison, but precautions had to be taken.
When Avrin arrived at the academy, he couldn't find a trace of Lilia. He didn't blame her. He figured she must have assumed he used the pendant she gave him to teleport both him and Azrael away. She must have felt some sort of connection to the pendant when it was used, making staying here at Laymist pointless. She most likely departed to head back to her homeland.
Avrin had found himself in a predicament though. Word had spread around as to how Laymist has a powerful Enigma ability user, and many great powers had sent representatives to try and coerce him into joining them.
With promises of marriage, wealth, rare items and even his own fiefdom, Avrin was a little astonished as to what lengths people would go to secure him. Though he couldn't blame them. He knew the kingdoms were allowed to wage skirmishes and war against each other to claim land, such is humanity's nature, which is why the empire didn't outlaw it.
Humanity needed to vent their beastial nature, even though they didn't want to admit it. The issue was if they vented it on another race it would definitely cause a repeat of what happened many years ago.

Avrin was currently sitting in a carriage. He had been traveling for several days, and the carriage itself was exquisite and personally lent to him by the headmaster of Laymist. Avrin’s was wearing clothes worthy of a noble. Of course, Avrin had a bored look.
The headmaster had apparently received a letter from the royal palace, meaning from King Leo Zircus himself. The letter invited Avrin to come stay at the royal palace and meet the king. Such an opportunity was very rare. This would help boost Laymist’s reputation. The headmaster had to be careful, though. If the demon king was caught again, he would be sealed within the Dark Abyss Chasm once more, meaning he didn't want to bring too much attention, but also didn't want to be seen as the worst branch academy.
He had begged Avrin to attend this, to help Laymist’s image soar. Avrin was quite reluctant on the outside, but on the inside, he was quite eager. King Leo Zircus. He had heard that he had found a piece of Skymetal quite a few years back.
Of course, to anyone but Avrin, it was more so a decorative piece. No heat could melt it and nothing could dent it. It was this universe's most precious metal, and only Avrin was capable of forging it.
“Young Lord, we are nearing the capital.” The driver of the carriage called out. Avrin was quite impatient. Although the carriage was sturdy and the horse-like creature used to drive it was fast, it and the driver still needed to rest. To Avrin, it was quite slow and boring. He couldn't break his appearance and bore with it. He spent his time meditating within the carriage to pass the time as he helped his body progress.
“Oh?“ Avrin held the royal invitation letter and spoke. “No need to waste time. Once you enter, head towards the royal palace.” At the sound of these words, even the driver of the carriage felt his heart tremble. He would find it an honor to enter himself.
The carriage passed by many sights that Avrin had seen before. From the military fortress to the outer trade district. He even caught sight of the alley area that Eitri had set up shop in. Of course, it was long gone, cleaned up completely.
As the carriage went on, it even passed the so called “best blacksmith” within Altea that turned Avrin away despite having a letter of recommendation. It caused a slight look of disdain to appear in his eyes.
The carriage soon entered the higher noble district. The buildings and landscapes were incredible, with trees of high quality and magical properties neatly arranged. Many high tiered guards were patrolling around, while many carriages of quality no less than the one the headmaster gave to Avrin were spread across the finely paved road path.
The closer the carriage drew to the royal palace, the larger it seemed to become. It towered over everything that Avrin had seen in this world, and after a few more minutes, they neared the large wall that emitted a blue light which spanned across the palace. This was definitely a magical protection barrier of high quality.
“You are?” As the carriage stopped, a guard dressed in gold and red armor with a large halberd spoke to the driver. The driver cleared his throat and spoke. “Young Lord Herth has received an invitation from King Leo Zir-”
The guard turned into a slight blur and his halberd smashed against the front of the carriage, smashing it away with some effort. The driver of the carriage was knocked away, leaving bits of blood on the pavement.
The carriage compartment was on it's side. This surprise even caused Avrin to wonder what happened, but when he heard the guards reply, anger seemed to fill his body. “You will not address his majesty by his given name, you lowly plebeian.”
The carriage, which remained on it's side, slowly opened. Avrin got out and looked over at the unconscious driver. He walked over and knelt down beside him, checking to see if he was ok. But Avrin could tell he was already dead. Such a blow would kill an ordinary man like him. Anger filled his his head, but he wouldn't be rash.
Avrin casually walked over to the other guard, who seemed neutral to his comrade’s actions. He glanced at Avrin with disdain, as he had seen many people try to fake a letter to get inside. But when Avrin handed him the letter and the guard read it, his face filled with fear.
“Y..Young sire….” The guard paled, and the one who had hit the carriage away looked from the remains of Avrin’s carriage, a few more had appeared most likely to enter the palace as well. A commotion broke out, as people wondered what happened.
The guard Avrin handed the letter to went over to the wall and placed the letter inside a small slot. The slot began to glow a soft white before the letter vanished. A minute passed before a man in noble attire quickly walked over with a look of happiness. Of course, when he saw the ruined carriage ruined as well as the body of the old driver and Avrin’s look of disdain, he felt something was wrong.
“Young Lord Herth, I welcome you to the royal palace.” The man seemed a little confused at the current situation. The crowd was still whispering. Many people had heard the man’s words and looks of surprise appeared on their faces. In front of them was the boy Herth, an Enigma ability user, but they were wondering what had happened here.
The guards felt that they had messed up. They felt that because they were experts guarding the royal palace. It gave them the excuse to take up arms against those that offend the royal family.
“Your guards...destroyed my carriage, and killed my driver.” Avrin blatantly spoke. Hearing Avrin’s words, the man’s brows narrowed as he glared at them. “You fools! Have you no mind? Hmph… I will be sure that your pay is docked!”
Avrin’s body trembled a little. “Pay is docked?..” The man in noble attire gave a soft chuckle and smiled. “Young lord, we will definitely pay you back for your carriage. In fact, we will give you a better one. As for the driver.. Well, a common plebeian. There are many of these people around.” He snickered inwardly. Of course, this was a mistake on his behalf.
“I see. Since I'm so valued by His Majesty, whom I am not allowed to call by name, I suppose it allows me to do this.”
Avrin raised his right hand’s index finger and used Phantom Pulse, which engulfed both guards, who looked on with fear. The Phantom Pulse Avrin had used was the most powerful he had ever done. Despite it being only targeted towards the guards, the entire area shook with a large tremor. The entire palace seemed to be trembling.
Within seconds, the bodies of the screaming guards was crushed so immensely that the crunching sounds of bones and the cracking and crushing of metal and armor could be heard. Despite all this, Avrin stayed calm. The fear of losing control was always resonating within him.
What remained of the guards was a golf ball sized clump of bloody red metal that cracked and dripped. Avrin released his Phantom Pulse. Around the area, the ground trembled and cracked and even the magical barrier around the wall was damaged.
Looks of fear appeared in the eyes of everyone present. How could such a monstrous individual so easily kill two guards of the mid Expert rank within seconds? The man in noble attire felt his heart quicken as he gazed angrily at Avrin.
“Y..You! Do you know that you have offended-” Before he could finish, Avrin gazed at him with even more disdain. “You didn't punish them appropriately for offending me and killing an elderly man, and all for speaking the name Leo Zircus. Of course, if you want to offend me, I could always leave and head to Gaia Academy. Their offer is open to me.”
Closing his mouth, the man didn't utter a single word more. In fact, he quickly bowed in respect. “I apologize for the actions of my guards...and my actions...your punishment was sufficient... p...please follow me…”
Having to bow to a young boy and be put on the spot like that in front of other nobles made the man angry, but he understood how significant Avrin was. One day, his reputation may be second only to the king.
Twenty minutes passed after Avrin had demanded a proper burial be given towards the old driver. Despite him not knowing the man, it was common decency to do so. He also asked to have a letter written to the headmaster as to take care of the old driver’s next of kin if he had any.
While these matters were accepted by the man Avrin came to know as Biyas, Biyas himself was filled with annoyance. “-This little bastard...already so demanding. Heh, you think you're a genius and so important. Just wait until our Empire’s true geniuses make short work of you-” He thought to himself.
Avrin was being led down a beautiful white marble hall with golden columns and seemingly handcrafted walls that showed the artisan's emotion. There were many expensive-looking paintings and decorations littered across the hall to show how wealthy and great the royal family was. Though Avrin only admired it all for a few moments.
The palace was indeed large. It was like a miniature city within a city. Many guards with similar attire to the ones outside were patrolling around, and many nobles were being escorted about.
“Where exactly are we heading to, Mr. Biyas?” Avrin curiously asked. Hearing Avrin’s words, Biyas inwardly grinned. “Young Lord, there it is, the Generation Hall.” Avrin raised a brow and asked curiously, “Generation Hall?”
As they walked over towards the towering golden doors, Biyas spoke. “It is called the Generation Hall because every year, geniuses who are invited to the royal palace will gather. In fact, you just so happened to arrive right before we hold an interesting event within our Empire.”
Two large guards with light blue and dark red armor, both of which were early Master level, reached over to the door after greeting Biyas. They pushed against the large metal doors and they began to shudder slightly before opening.
“Welcome to the Generation Hall, Young Lord.” Biyas spoke as a flood of light exited the door. As it calmed down, Avrin could see dozens upon dozens of individuals from their early teens up to their late twenties. The moment the doors opened, everyone stopped chatting and tending to their own matters to look towards who entered.
Of course, Avrin felt it was a little awkward, as he saw all their eyes focused onto him. They all seemed to be dressed much better than him, which is probably the reason as to why some of them glanced at him as if he weren't anything special. Other than these people, Avrin saw quite a few interesting individuals, who carried weapons with them and sat alone.
One girl had a large greatsword on her back and wore a white robe, under which was a jade-white platemail-looking armor, Her beauty was quite stunning, and her blonde hair stretched down to her lower back in the fashion of a ponytail.
Another one was a young man who wore jet black leather attire, who had a crimson red cloak that gave off the feeling of magic. Under his cloak he concealed two large sabres that were quite menacing. His face showed a serious look, and he had eyes like an eagle’s, as if he could see the fluff in the air one-hundred meters away.
There were a few more people like these two, and even Avrin had to admit he was quite curious to see what was going on. “Young Lord, I will be off now.” Biyas quickly left, and the large metals doors clamped shut.
