Chapter 53 Gift & Books

IMPORTANT so before i continue on with the usual wording i want to tell you guys something. ever since writing spectral i have been reading more storys like Coiling Dragon, Zhan Long, mangas such as toriko-One punch man aswell as games such as monster hunter.

because of me writing while reading i usually end up getting ideas of things i want to implement. unfourtently the way spectral is turning out i cant make these ideas appear in it. RELAX IM NOT ENDING SPECTRALwhich is why iv decided to try and make another fiction. one with a combination that hasnt been done before and i intend to put all i have learnt from spectral and the criticisim into making this new fiction good.

there isnt much i can say about it as im still gathering information and getting the details down. i have been thinking about this for over a month now and i wanted to let you guys know just incase.

this may or may not interfear with spectrals release depending on how people recieve the story and how it goes. this doesent mean i will end spectral i will still continue it as i love this story to much aswell as dont want to make my readers angry. but as you all know this was my first story and after becomming more experienced i want to do more :D

if you have any questions please comment here or pm me your concerns/questions in general .

--------

The beggar was sitting huddled up with some torn rags around himself for warmth in the cold night. The village was still somewhat busy, but only for those who enjoyed brothels or adult pleasures.

Although, for the life of a beggar, there was never a time where you were to not relax. Every second was a struggle for survival.

10:00pm and things were still booming as drunkards sang of their adventures of killing beasts or drinking their sorrows away. Some were gambling in the open and even guards joined in.

The beggar quietly looked around, wondering what sort of joy that would be if he were to ever experience it. But he was brought back to his senses by a voice.

“Over here…” it spoke. As he turned to look in the alley, only pitch darkness revealed itself with no hint of light. It wasn’t usually that dark, but it was as if something were making it so.

“Who’s there?..” He spoke, not really afraid. His life had been filled with hardship and sorrow. He was always close to deaths door and lived on. If it’s his time to go than it’s his time to go.

Instead of speaking again, a yellow metallic object formed in the middle of the dark alley before dropping, than one by one several of those objects fell to the ground until a small pile was made.

The voice then spoke again. “Your reward for this hardship..” Those words, almost as if by the will of the gods, made the beggar stand up as he looked at the yellow metallic objects that were none other than pure gold coins.

He weakly stood up and made his way towards it, thinking that those words were from a divine being that has come to help him. He wasn’t too far from the truth.

As he got closer, tears formed in his eyes, looking down at the coins “T..Thank you…..for your generosity, oh mighty being..” He spoke, on the verge of tears, as hope lined his soul. But that wasn’t all that was planned.

The voice that was none other than Avrin spoke as the mist vanished, revealing his cloaked form.

The beggar made a shocked face as he looked at Avrin. “Gold can not bring you happiness...But one day this might just do the trick.” With a soft smile Avrin raised his right hand his index finger straight like a dagger.

Nebula mist coated his finger as if preparing it for something dangerous. And in a swift movement Avrin penetrated the mans brittle chest where his heart was located. Avrin had decided for a couple of hours if this was the best choice.

On one hand, he risked the man dying and would live with that burden for the rest of his life. But on the other, he gave this man an opportunity for fulfilling long time wishes. The beggar coughed up a little blood as his body twitched. His whole body was weak before and he was barely hanging on.

“W..Why..?” He mumbled, as he gazed at Avrin. At that moment, Avrin emitted dark matter around his heart as if to coat it and infuse energy with it. And just like what he did to Asura’s arm, he did to this man’s heart.

While constantly absorbing mana from the surroundings, the mans heart began to change and shift while being reformed. This change caused the blood the pumped through him to be affected as well. That in turn brought the energy around his body even quicker than before.

Seeing that the new seed of life had been planted, Avrin slipped his finger out with a bit of blood around it as the nebula mist no longer coated it.

The beggar fell onto the ground as he spasmed a bit while the dark matter immediately worked on healing as well as fixing his body.

Avrin could feel that the mana around the area was slowly being depleted by not him but the beggar. Avrin took this as a sign that it worked. And after staying for a few minutes, he felt a bit of dark matter emit from the unconscious beggar.

Avrin smiled as he turned around to leave. “I took a risk by giving you that...In truth this was a test to see how well I could do this. But that was only half the reason. The other half was a gift.” He spoke as he left, fading into the deeper darkness of the alley, heading back to his room.

The night came and went quickly for the unconscious beggar. But when morning came, as he was alone in the alley, he slowly awoke. Feeling a bit of pain in his chest, he looked around to see no one was there. As if like a bad dream. He felt somewhat sad but then looked down.

He saw the pile of gold hidden under a couple of rags that Avrin put over it before leaving. He then looked at himself to see his body had become more solid and leaner. “This…” He spoke before ignoring the gold and crawling over to a nearby broken mirror.

He saw his reflection he had avoided for years because of sadness, but in his eyes were a light of happiness. He saw the reflection of the body he desired. A somewhat muscular figure with a long beard. His age still showed but not badly. His eyes on the other hand were purple with red pupils, different to Avrin’s but still showed the sign of being the same.

The beggar laughed quietly for a moment before beginning to laugh even more so while raising his hands to the heavens, as if showing them he was reborn. The area around him had been drained of a lot of mana.

That being said, people that went near it or in it had a bad feeling or got sick and left immediately which helped keep the beggar and the gold unnoticed, but to the beggar he felt no difference. In fact it was as if it energized him without him realising it.

Little did avrin know that this very beggar would one day start something that would surprise even Avrin. On Avrin’s side, Asura was already downstairs eating, using the gold Avrin had given him, just in case of a situation like this. Avrin was laying down in the bed without the cloak, gazing at the ceiling.

From here he could feel the dark matter waste around that area as well as the energy of that man. “three of us…” Avrin shut his eyes with a smile. The world of Seleria didn’t seem all that lonely anymore. Then again, was Avrin truly wishing for more like himself?

Avrin, after spending an hour in the Pulsing Dragon, then did a set regime of situps and pushups, knowing his traveling was no excuse for him to slouch on it. But this was the least he could do until he found a suitable area.

As Avrin joined Asura downstairs, he was surrounded by beautiful women who clung onto him as there was a small pile of gold on the table. Surrounding it and him was also food and curious eyes as well as hungry eyes for the gold.

Asura, feeling Avrin’s presence, looked up and spoke with a mouth full of meat. “Ahh Master, you’re here..” Avrin blinked and then approached quietly before passing a waitress who was waiting to take Asura’s order. Avrin spoke to her as he made his way to a seat opposite of Asura. “Please get me a drink for the morning” He spoke kindly to her.

The waitress gazed at Avrin and smiled as she bowed and headed off. Avrin had no idea if there was a coffee like beverage or anything like it, but he figured that he might as well go for broke. After all, anything served here to drink or eat can’t kill you right? Is what he thought.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

“Asura, you truly eat too much.” Avrin frowned as he gazed at him. Asura gave a soft laugh which made some meat spit a few feet near Avrin, causing Avrin to give a disatisfied face. “Master, I love eating… I need to eat to keep myself strong.“ He flexed a bit, which showed one of his muscular fur like arms revealed under the cloak showing the bulging feline like muscle.

The women clinging to him clapped and gave even more favourable glances. Avrin only gazed at them then at him. “Taking a liking to different races I see. I didnt expect you to change suddenly.” Avrin curiously spoke, wondering if this came with the heightened intelligence.

“Huh?.. Oh these females.. They came when I placed that gold stuff on the table. Are all humans like this Master?” Avrin blinked a few times before nearly bursting into laughter. Clearly Asura had no idea what was going on. As long as you brought him food and didn’t stop him from eating he couldn’t care less who was around him.

“Hahaha. Asura you still have a lot to learn about. After we finish we are heading off. I want to visit the bookstore nearby.” Asura frowned as he stopped eating for a moment. “Master, please don’t make me go with you..I dont like books. Let me stay here..”

Avrin tapped the table with his left index finger. “Gluttonous creature. Knowledge is power. Besides, how can I trust that you wont do something unreasonable?” The females clinging to Asura only blinked in curiosity to them. Avrin and Asura were speaking an unknown language. Little did they know it was english.

The body of these two individuals, being somewhat sentient, had made english, as it was the first language they knew, and shared the language it would be to communicate with one another.

Asura, although having the knowledge Avrin had of languages here, could still speak to others and it would all sound the same. This was mainly because the translating device Avrin had devoured had been tampered with internally by Avrin’s abilities and expanded upon, as if his body had done so for benefit.

Therefore, Asura had also benefited from this after. Avrin shared part of his energy and knowledge with him so he had no trouble doing things such as ordering food or reading a bit, but the knowledge hadn’t fully settled in.

But what did settle in was information that Avrin had regarding the book and Sky Metal. Avrin had let a majority of his knowledge go to Asura about the current world. Even fragments of his universe. It was Avrin’s first time sharing knowledge so he didn’t know how to block out the parts he didn’t want to share.

Asura, knowing that when Avrin shared knowledge with him it seemed to be Avrin’s first attempt, and most of the knowledge wasn’t really useful or anything he had never seen or heard of before.

So he took it as a sort of taboo. Something he wasn’t supposed to have or talk about with worry that Avrin would get upset. In fact, he hadn’t told Avrin he knew this, so he kept to himself. Ignoring it for the most part.

“Master, I promise I will behave. I will only stay here to eat” As Avrin’s beverage arrived, the waitress smiled and spoke “A hot cup of Milk” Avrin gazed at it, disappointed that it was so generic, but it was better than nothing. He took it and drank it but was surprised.

It was sweeter than the milk he expected and felt that it was lighter as well and had a softer aftertaste. He could indeed get used to this.

Avrin stood up and made his way out after giving asura 15 more gold coins just in case, to which he delightfully took them and placed them in his pile. He was starting to like gold for its use of buying him food, and as Avrin gave him the gold the girls around Asura only clung to him more, which made him wiggle a bit in annoyance before continuing to eat while they praised him.

“Where did they come from anyway..” Avrin mumbled to himself while looking at them. He decided to trust Asura for now and headed off to the restaurant first.

The morning was welcomed by merchants who had newly acquired goods and shops who sold trinkets or miscellaneous ware. Adventures looking for deals were snooping around curiously.

Rich travelers with their carriages heading out before the sun had fully risen as well as workers carrying large boxes at the whim of shopkeepers.

Avrin had no idea why but the sight of such things occurring made him feel somewhat weird. He didn’t realise it was because he still hasn’t fully fit into society yet.

As he gazed, he noticed two Elves travelling with a Beast Tribe member. They were dressed in adventurer attire and seemed quite happy, especially after they met up with a human group of adventurers and greeted them as they seemed familiar to the point of hugging one another.

Avrin instantly thought of Syrana and Ayame. He wondered how things turned out for them, and if they were ok. He truly felt more sorry for ditching them and lying like that so he tried to cheer himself up by thinking of the negatives. Ayame was a human who didn't live as long as Syrana or Avrin.

He decided that one day he would make it up to her as an apology for doing such actions only for the reason of her limited lifespan.

As for Syrana, he would still be cautious of his approach to her considering her and Myra’s inventions. He knew she was starting to feel better towards him, but also knew she had a sort of martyr like mentality when it came to the safety of her race. She would indeed act to stop Avrin if she found him as a threat.

Then again, what use was there if he wasn't around her race or in her continent. It’s not like she would care anymore, right? Avrin wondered to himself as he continued down the street path. He entered the restaurant and was greeted by the waitress from yesterday.

After a few minutes, he met the owner and made the payment they discussed yesterday, and even asked where the tall man with a hole in his stomach was. Which made Avrin chuckle.

Avrin had bought 15 of those buns and had them packed away in small containers that he then put into the enchanted sack he had rarely used until now. As he bids them farewell, the owner felt sad feeling that he could have made more money if Asura was there, but still wished Avrin a safe trip.

Avrin then began to make his way to the bookstore he eyed near the restaurant. “I know it’s here somewhere..” He eagerly spoke. The books of Seleria were something he treasured and valued greatly as they helped significantly as well as led to great things.

As Avrin approached the store door and opened it, he felt the silence of it as well as the smell of knowledge which was somewhat appealing.

He looked around to see bookcases all over the place, which made him remember the prior bookstore as well as the shopkeeper and what he did to the mans arm, which made him frown again. Another person he would have to make it up to somehow.

“Ahh welcome dear customer.” A young sweet voice called out. A mature looking female wearing what seemed to be a librarian like outfit came around a bookshelf with a few books under her arms. “Thank you” He spoke out as he continued in looking around. The female spoke.

“Is there anything specific you’re after? Oh yes a few new books came in today, such as Wrathful doings of the Shadow mage, 100 Ways to learn Sylphrian, A newcomers guide to Adventuring.”

She spoke as if giving a small lecture in a prideful manner. Avrin only gazed silently before speaking “I’m sorry but I’m only after the rarest books you have in stock.” Avrin knew it was because those were where the real information was.

The female was silent for a moment and somewhat gave a cautious look before speaking. “Are you willing to spend a few hundred gold coins dear customer?” As if confirming it before even daring to show Avrin.

Avrin smiled and spoke “As long as its something I find interesting. If you’re still cautious, may I know the name without the rarity?” She was silent for a moment before smiling “An Introduction To Magic Darkness Affinity” Avrin’s ears perked slightly.

He was quiet for a moment, before thinking to himself “-Dark affinity, I wonder if that would relate somewhat to my powers. It would be good if I could somehow mold abilities to suit my needs.

It would give me a better variety..-” The voice of the female snapped him back to reality. “850 gold coins, and to reassure you it’s of Rare quality, written by the great Darkness mage Yaalor who lived over two hundred years ago”

Avrin listened well until he came to a decision. He would buy it. But he couldn’t just go and come back with the gold, he had to think of another way that was easier. He spoke with a smile “How about a trade?...”
