Chapter 63: Spotted

Chapter 63: Spotted

"SHIP!" Spoke a wheezy voice from outside of the cell where Kirk was being held, Atop a watch tower.

The tower in question was part of a smooth concrete wall. This wall surrounded a large area around what seemed to be a coast, going well over a hundred feet down the coast.

A couple of small buildings of what seemed to be housing dotted the area inside, one of which was where Kirk was currently being held captive. But all were dwarfed by the huge compound. With over six stories, and was so wide that it could easily be considered a manor.

The Mansion sat in the very middle of the area. Encompassed by the nearly twenty-foot wall. The area outside of the compound was completely cleared of trees, being completely flat, the only thing surrounding it besides the ocean in the front, was the flattened field behind it, only sparse palms off in the distance meters away.

Allowing it to be easily viewable from the horizon if one was headed straight on from the ocean, which the Red Sashes were not.

Heavy Footsteps followed the yelling. The familiar voice of Barnum filling the air "Who the hell is it! Theres no scheduled deliveries to any of the islands for weeks!"

"They're not heading here sir! They're heading for Cocoyashi! Humans are on board. I count four! Three men and a woman!" Barnum Scoffed. Thinking for a moment. "Leave them for now. I'm sure it's just lost souls at sea...Archer. Keep and eye on them..."

'Ship'? Kirk raised his head slowly, listening to the guards shouting.

He had just been sitting there, defeated now, waiting for his fate.

As the first hour passed, he had gotten over his crying. Hour two, he had stopped staring into the void, rethinking his life, and was trying to mess with the chains to see if there was any weakness to them.

In hour three, he was starting to get angry at himself. At the whole world. The tattoo etched into his back, the shark toothed maw that sat vertical across his entire back, was almost stung and melted his skin, burning brightly to constantly remind him what he had done. Kirk was tempted to just rip the skin off of his back just to quell his rage.

When hour four was up, that's when hopelessness finally took over and Kirk just started waiting.

In the meantime, he figured out a good way to regulate his breathing to get used to the agony in his gills.

Now, at hour number five, his head perked up at the shouts of the guard. A bit of hope trickled into him again. He had nearly forgotten about the fact Leroy was most likely coming for him. Kirk was so caught up with Barnum and Oliko that it had swept his mind away to a different place entirely. But he didn't let himself get excited. It could be anyone's ship... and even if it was Leroy, it would hurt him deeply to even look at the man and the crew he betrayed.

He was ready to take the burn of their anger at him, at least. Kirk listened further, frowning slightly at the sound of Barnum. He started to bristle a bit, even just thinking of that man made his hands clench.

'Three men and a woman'? Kirk raised his eyebrows before letting out a soft, half-assed chuckle.

So, Leroy did manage to get that cook. That just proved even further how determined that Captain was.

Poor Noir, he just joined and this is what he got himself into? He let his head hang back and hit the wall behind him lightly as he waited for the sounds of those heavy footsteps to disappear. A phantom grin was on his face.

Damn it. Why did Leroy have to come? He was smiling out of pure ridiculousness of the situation. It was a tight pickle, for sure. Leroy had no idea where Kirk was, meaning he couldn't come to help the Fishman. He wouldn't know where to go next, what to do, anything.

The citizens wouldn't say a thing just so they could save their asses. Kirk started to laugh to himself. It was weak and heart-wrenching as he did, his eyes closing as sudden, fresh tears sprung to his eyes and started to pour down his face.

His quiet laughter turned into some sobs as his head went limp and rolled onto his bare shoulder, trying to dry his face with his bare shoulder. It was fucked up. And it was too late for him.

Leroy was just a few miles away and Kirk couldn't' do shit.

Silent tears ran down his cheeks as his eyes opened slightly. Kirk's gaze landed on his sister. Silence hung so thick in the air that it almost strangled him. Something slowly grew within his chest as he stared at Oliko. That deep anger from before... that motivation to get out... the fact Leroy would actually help him, despite the fact he had left him without warning.

Kirk's eyes hardened, almost looking cold. He lifted his head towards the wall above him, looking at how his arms were forced into the air by the chains holding him. He knew what he would have to do. Kirk already swore to kill Barnum, to get revenge for his sister... and he couldn't do that for her if he just stayed here, bending to Barnum's will.

Kirk shifted in his spot, sitting on top of one of his legs now, kneeling. The bottom of his foot pressed up against the wall while his other one was dug into the ground, making Kirk look like he was about to lunge and was only stopped due to his restraints. Taking a deep, painful breath, Kirk scrunch up his face in the effort as he suddenly started to pull increasingly hard against his restraints. He grits his teeth hard and was trying his absolute hardest to force his arms forward, fighting against the thick metals chains that held him.

Like hell he wasn't about to try though.
