Chapter 129: Relief

Chapter 129: Relief

Seven long hours. But to Leroy. It took only a few moments. One second he was out of it. The next he was back. Sitting up slightly in a different bed. He slowly raised his arms and saw the bandages wrapped around them, and then across his entire body. The cast around his forearms. The ache had left. But in place was a dull throb. It was a relief that caused a smile to grow across the captain's face... "I knew they were the right one..." He spoke under his breath to himself.|

Dezzi had just finished cleaning and putting away his tools when Leroy awoke. They would turn to Leroy and say “Welcome back to the land of the conscious, how are you feeling?” They would grab a bottle of pills and put it in their pocket for now, then they would close up their bag, having made sure everything was in its proper place.

"Feeling like I was right about you being the doc for us." He said with a sly grin to the short doctor near him

“Okay, but I meant like... how do you feel physically?” Dezzi would stop for a minute before actually realizing “You understood the question the first time didn’t you?”

He simply looked at the doctor with a smile. Of course, he knew what they meant He stared for a moment. Before settling his eyes. "You know, you don't have to hide your face...we don't care what people look like. All that matters is what's in your spirit..." Leroy spoke the truth. There was a fishman, a woman, a ronin, and then the crazy man himself Leroy all on the crew. Not to mention their Sexualities among them. It was clear there wasn't a single spot of prejudice such as to discriminate against Dezzi amongst them

“I prefer to wear it... It’s precious to me. Besides, while your crew may not judge me for what I look like, those not on your crew will.” Dezzi had gotten into the habit of wearing Their mask, even while asleep They usually wore it, so for this man to say it wasn’t necessary was... odd to say the least “Anyways, you speak as if you know I’m gonna join your crew. What gives you such confidence that I will?” Dezzi was really considering the possibility of joining this crew, they all cared for their captain so much, and their captain seemed genuinely kind.

“I get it.” He says picking up his sash from the pile of clothes next to him before wrapping it around his arm. Just having it on meant something. Dezzi had already seen how he’d worn it on his waist. “This sash is precious to me too. If anything were to happen, I know what I’d do. Having it on in some way is enough. Maybe that can work with your Mask too. Just keeping it on your hip or something”

“And I don’t know if you’ll join. But I have a good feeling it was meant to be. Which is why it doesn’t matter what other people outside of the crew think. We stand up for one another.” He says rubbing his sash lightly before giving that same charismatic smile

Dezzi would smile at that. Now he would have to think about how he could have the mask on him without actually wearing it. The hip idea wasn’t too bad, though it did sound a bit uncomfortable. “Meant to be, huh? Maybe you’re right.” Dezzi would sit there for a minute, before stepping over to the door, turning to Leroy once more he would say “Well then, what do you say I let your friends in and let them know you’re gonna be alright?"

The Captain leaned back into the pillows and waited as the Doctor alerted the crew to the successful surgery.

'Meant to be...' Dezzi thought to themselves as they stopped on the Deck. The Crew was in the Galley, all waiting for news on the surgery. But- Those words wracked the Minks's mind. Oslar was right, they wanted to go in the world. Even if they had to wear a mask at every moment. They just wanted to be able to do what they loved and help fix people. Their furred hands gripped tight. The emotionless visage of the mask hiding their ears on the small dome that was apart of the mask. Blue sticking out the sides.

They were lucky that at a glance their Fur appeared like stark white skin. It gave them leeway while wearing their turtle neck sweater. Pulling the hood of their cloak, they hid their arms and hands.

Kirk was the first one to rush into the room, of course, and was at Leroy’s side in an instant. “Leroy! Oh thank god!” A huge burden was swept off of his shoulders the moment he saw Leroy alive, despite knowing for a while be would be ok. He knelt down to his knees beside Leroy’s bed. “I'm so glad we managed to get a doctor in time…” A few seconds of peace went by before Kirk snapped suddenly, lifting a first to bring down on Leroy’s head (but of course not hitting him, it was just a threat).

“YOU DUMBASS! WHY THE HELL DID YOU THINK IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO WANDER OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT TO FIGHT A BOUNTY HUNTER WAY OUT OF YOUR LEAUGE?! WITHOUT TELLING US?!”

Noir slipped in soon after, silent for now but still looking relieved. He had his third cigarette of the day burning away on his lips. He had been just as stressed as the rest of them, but didn't really say anything like comments about the situation. He knew Leroy would pull through

Jeanne would be next to enter. Kirk's reaction was a bit blown out of proportion, but fair enough. She just let out a sigh as their captain was doing better. "I'm really glad you guys found a doctor too, but could we give him a bit of slack." she says with a bit of a chuckle. "He's been on death's door for a little bit there. Let him get his strength back before yelling at him." she said, patting Kirk on the back.

"I already told you why! Jeez!" He says bring his bandaged and casted arm up to block the threat "You still got that Eternal Pose right?! We should get going when we can..."

“HE’S STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE A LITTLE YELLING! Especially when he’s been an IDIOT!! YOU STARFISH BRAINED GUPPIE!!” Kirk was still strongly bristling but he did pull back with a sigh and crossed his arms, scowling. “Of course I still have it! And we aren't going until you get in your right mind and start healing up!”
