Kirk walked up towards the first group of people that he saw, waving them down. “Hey! Excuse me! We’re in search of a doctor, do you know if there’s any around here..?”
"Doctor?" Spoke a man with dark hair, bandages wrapped around his forehead. His arm was missing. The large winter coat he wore had the sleeve folded over to cover the nub.
"Yeah...I don't recognize you. You guys just come to town?" He gave a slight scoff "Sorry the Towns gone to shit...Usually looks better..."
"But yeah. Theres a doctor. Dr. Oslar. She's in Volc Town right now..." He said pointing down the street. "Its about 30 minutes through the trails..." At the far end of the block of buildings was a small open archway made of brick and wood a trail leading into a thicket of spruce trees. A hazy of cold frost across the ground.
Kirk let out a heavy sigh of relief. Now that was a big burden off of the crew’s shoulders. Next thing they had to worry about… was the doctor being free. And that she could help Leroy. “Thank you so much, sir. It means a lot.” He smiled and nodded towards the man before taking a glance around the town. “Speaking of the town, do you mind me asking what happened?”
The Man Looked away. Hesitant and Seemingly Fearful. His brow pursed and his lips curled inward. Suddenly a voice perked up next to them, a woman in a heavy pink coat. She seemed to be a friend of the man. Crunches underneath her arms as she leaned up against the wall of a brick building that was still standing. Taking a drag from a cigarette she spoke with a worried look. Fear oozed from her eyes as she struggled to even keep eye contact.
"They came so quickly...The only thing they wanted was Destruction. And took whatever they wanted. It was almost a month ago...The Entire Country was Decimated, And we're still reeling from it. To think we used to have doctors all over the place, but so many were killed at the hands of that Pirate Crew...Even the King...was put into a critical state..."
Her gaze shifted to the Crew. Eyes hardened in fear. "We only ever got a single Name..."
With trepidation in the woman's eyes. She spoke, her mouth trembling as she did...
"Blackbeard"
Kirk looked at her with sympathy, frowning softly. He felt bad for her and the rest of the town of course, what kind of a monster would just attack a little place like this? Especially when there didn’t seem to be much here besides a few basic towns. This place clearly wasn’t known for anything good, like riches or alcohol, so what was the point in pillaging the island and destroying it to this level?
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Let alone the fact that a single crew was capable of not just injuring and killing this many people, but structurally destroying its environment...Had he caused the volcanoes to erupt?
“Blackbeard… huh? I’m sorry for everyone’s loss, then. Maybe the Marine’s will get to him soon.” Kirk said with a hopeful smile, though it was forced. This place was absolutely trashed… how could a crew do this?
"Was that...What happened with the heat?" Kirk hesitated to Ask.
Finally. The man who had struggled to speak. Finally did. "I-I don't know what it was. But. That Pirate did something that caused the Volcanoes to erupt. It sent the whole place into ruin...We're lucky that the snow stopped any fires from spreading. Too bad the palace on top of Mount Fjell. The poor king..."
A frown came across Kále's face as the woman spoke, a more angry frown as opposed to Kirk's sympathetic frown. "That's a pretty ominous fucking name." Kále had heard some creepy nicknames in his time but Blackbeard really said something, pair the name with the actions that he'd taken against the innocent people of this kingdom really made Kále wonder what kind of monster this Blackbeard was
. Even still, Kále remembered, shockingly, that they had to get a move on and find this doctor woman (He forgot her name). He started walking away from the woman and headed in the direction that the man pointed in (And he was going in the wrong direction). "C'mon, let's get a move on. Gotta get that doctor chick to Leroy quick."
Noir was quick to grab the back of Kále’s jacket by the collar and started dragging him in the correct direction. “It’s this way, you idiot.” He scowled at the swordsman before pulling him around and pushing him towards the direction of the way they were supposed to go.
The chef was also shaken by the name connected to the scene of the town around them, but he didn’t have much to say about it. Talking too much may put salt in the wound, so it was best to leave these people to their peace. Kirk shook his head at the other two before looking to the woman and man, nodding respectfully to the both of them.
Kále pulled his jacket away from Noir, he may have been going the wrong way but he didn't like being corrected, especially not by the Pervy Chef. "Don't call me an idiot. Perv!" He retorted to Noir's insult, no way was he going to let that slide.
“Then don’t go the wrong way, idiot!” Noir barked back as the walked, leaving Kirk to sigh and wonder how they can act like children at a time like this..
He hoped they would get to this doctor soon since he was thinking about doing some extreme-environment training in the snow. Push his body to its limits kinda thing. But he was definitely worried about Leroy, he just wanted to train too of course!
“Anyways, thank you both so much for the help, but we’ve gotta go. I hope you all have a speedy recovery for both yourselves and the town.” And with that, he was after Kále and Noir, knowing they would have to hurry.
The two gave a gentle wave as the group walked away...First this Blackbeard...Then that man. Now another Crew of Pirates...Drumvolc was renowned for its doctors long ago. But now. It was a Former Shell of itself. Let us hope that this Dr. Oslar could truly help...
