Cycle 25 (3)

Dear Diary,

Last day of Cycle 25! There was a little party today. Not a big party, just a little… It was kinda a contest to see which group could make the most noise. It was fun.

I don’t know how it started, because Groups 1 and 2 started it. I think one of them was being noisy, and the other tried to be more noisy, then Group 3 joined in, and eventually we were all yelling and banging on things.

If only we had the dire wolves with us; they can get really loud if they all start howling.

Everyone thinks their group won. I obviously know Group 6 won, and everyone else is just being sore losers.

After we finished yelling at each other, we all came out and talked. We joked around and had fun. It was nice.

I think, if we had a hundred cycles here, we would have all become friends. Not super good friends, maybe, but ok friends. Friendly colleagues. People you wave at in a hallway, but don’t stop to talk to.

Something like that.

Oh yeah, the math test! It had eighty questions, and my final score was 57/80. Not super great, but I’ll admit I kinda gave up and guessed for the last page. Avi got 69/80, so he’s happy. He spent a lot longer on them than I did.

Kimi and Y both got 80/80. They were going to use the results to decide who was more worthy of… something… I don’t know. But they both got perfect scores, so that doesn’t help. They wrote the Admin and demanded a harder math test, which they’re currently taking.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

I hope they both get perfect scores in that, too. Or at least equal scores. It would be funny.

Having them solve math equations until one of them messes one up is the best thing they could be doing, really. Or, the most non-destructive. And they will happily do math for hours on end.

I don’t know if there’s any point to the math tests. Like, is there a score we need to pass to get certain jobs? That would make sense. Like a banker or tax collector. Or Royal Treasurer.

Whatever the job is, Kimi and Y are proving themselves way overqualified.

I wonder if mathematician is going to be a job in the new world.

…What did mathematicians do in the old world? I know they existed, and they did math, but for what? What specific numbers were they trying to find? Where did the numbers they were numbering come from?

Like, I get physicists were doing things with physics, and that involves numbers. And chemists dealt with chemicals, which also involves numbers. But straight-up mathematicians? What place did they have in science?

Nah, I’m gonna go to sleep before I give myself a headache.

Goodnight, Dungeon!

The Director looked up, receiving a notification. Admin 6 had summoned someone from his dungeon to the Void.

She debated immediately sending that person back. Then she debated giving them five minutes. After considering the matter, she decided to be magnanimous and not send the person away at all.

She’d pull Admin 6 into her office later and explain that it wouldn’t happen again.

Feeling like a kind and generous ruler, the Director went back to work.
