Cycle 24 (4)

Admin 6 looked over as another table popped into the room. This one had a tray of milkshakes on it.

He grinned, getting up to inspect them. Admins 1, 4, and 5 did the same.

“Average diner milkshakes,” 5 said, shaking her head.

“Only strawberry, too,” 4 added. “It’s like they’re not even trying.”

6 checked the concentration of stimulants in the drinks. “Way too much rock in there. I bet they don’t realize that stuff has a terrible taste.”

1 nodded. “I rate it 0.5 out of 10. No effort or creativity.”

They all agreed, sent the milkshakes away, and went back to work.

Dear Diary,

Avi is doing pretty good with psychic magic. His spells are all low-level, and never will be great, but they’re strong enough to disorient people and monsters.

I guess I should say, psychic magic and charm magic are similar. They both affect the mind. So the less something has coherent thoughts, the more “immune” it is.

With charm magic, you can give an order, and the target obeys. And you can convince enemies they’re your best friend.

But with psychic magic, mostly what it does is disorients people. At high levels it can disorient them to the point they pass out. But at low levels it more… gives them a migraine. And that migraine can make their vision fuzzy, or give them tinnitus, or make a part of them go numb like they’re having a stroke.

It’s very much not fun to experience, but that’s kinda the point of attack magic.

Avi almost exclusively uses the fuzzy vision spell. Combined with his illusions, people can’t tell what’s real and what isn’t. So they stop attacking.

Oh yeah, Mika still uses her magic to attack. She’s figured out how to kinda fuse ice and illusions. It’s neat. There’s a couple people around who use two types of magic together, but not this… prettily.

She really turns magic into art. I kinda feel like this is what magic should be, another medium to make epic art out of. It shouldn’t just be something to destroy things with.

I wonder if these exact spells and magic types are what we’ll have when we get out of here. Well, everyone assumes we’ll have magic. And that we won’t be human. But what race we’ll be exactly, and what type of magic, we don’t know.

It would be interesting to see if there's groups of people who only use one magic type, and how that’ll affect their towns. Like, the yetis only have access to ice magic. So they know how to use it really well. More than Mika, who has been using it since day one, but she had to figure it out on her own.

I bet if there was a group of people who only used green magic, I’d be able to learn so much from them. There’s probably a million little tricks that I don’t know because I haven’t spent time around other people who use green magic.

If anyone ever asks my opinion on how the next world should be set up, I’ll have to suggest making a couple little towns where everyone uses the same magic type.

I mean, it’s not likely anyone will ask. But in case they do, I should have a couple suggestions ready.

I’ll think about that as I dream tonight.

Goodnight, Dungeon!
