“Do you have any more business with us?”
I asked the hunk of scrap just in case. I don’t want to us to be bothered anymore and if possible, I really don’t want to fight this guy.
Upon my query, the walking bulk of armor turned his sight towards me and let out an inaudible sigh.
“I have few lines I wanted to say but it seems I’m just nothing more than a nuisance now than a challenge.”
“Time flies by and a lot of things changes. Even the form of chivalry that you believed in slowly bends its rule to accommodate the modern time and era.”
“That’s an astounding insight, per se. If the world I came from has more people like and your friends, maybe the revolution that I have dreamt of could have been more meaningful.”
“Revolution?”’
“Ah, I’m sorry for such a boring prattle. Kings should grow wiser instead of stronger. I am oblivious to that fact so my dreams fell apart.”
“You leave some parting words such as that regarding something from the past…”
“Please proceed as nothing will come from discussing such morbid tale.”
From his tone alone, I can sense that he unintentionally let out something unappealing for discussion. Knowing that he won’t talk anymore, we proceed towards the room where he pointed.
The door he pointed was a simple wooden door full of molds and dust. Before turning the knob, I made a last glance towards the mysterious knight clad in full armor.
I wonder what would happen if we did fight him. It made me shudder to think that it will be a one-sided massacre with him standing atop.
That’s how I felt about him.
His back lays bare without any intention of giving us watchful eyes. He just went back into becoming a motionless armor devoid of any movements.
What is the mystery about this knight?
“Asagao, let’s go.”
“Yeah.”
From Daisy’s urging, I turn the knob of the door and push it open. The door was crusty and old so I had difficulty pushing it with one hand alone so I forced it with two hands.
The smell of salty water once again entered my nose and a cool breeze of wind blew in our direction that brought a very specific sensation.
The room, however, was a closed stony hedge wide in diameter with noting particular but an altar in the middle. The altar houses a sword sticking from the ground. It was a sword with sensational glimmer and brilliance as beautiful as the sun.
The aura that it leaks is close to a divine but more grounded and faithful to this world’s rules.
Upon the appearance of the sword, everyone was in awe. Our feet were somehow started walking towards it as if we are getting pulled by its upright beauty and elegance. I haven’t seen a sword like this in master’s treasury.
Hero class weapon? I doubt that.
“Welcome, everyone. You have arrived at this finally.”
A familiar voice echoed the surrounding. In response, we all directed our gazes to the source of the voice.
To our expectation, it was really the nameless wizard with a big smile plastered on his face. It might be indicating that he is pleased with the situation of he just found everything that we did entertaining. I cannot interpret anything other than that.
“I am pleased and at the same time fascinated by your thorough exploits inside my labyrinth.”
“So it’s both…”
“You could put it that way. I would have given a more proper and severe trial but alas, I have been yearning for a proper conversation and a good chuckles for years.”
See? This is this guy’s intention after all.
“Everyone, please gaze upon the sword. It is a sword whose name was lost through the thick and rapid change of time.”
We peered back at the sword that was stuck on the altar and we immediately notice that the sword, even though it is bright and shiny, it was ridden with rust and dirt.
It was something undeniably sad for such weapon to rot here, finding none for it to be wielded by anyone.
“This sword…If what I think is true, then you want us to somehow pull it, yes?”
“I am truly thankful for your understanding, however, like what I said, the sword lost its name. The story was now a bygone memory and now, it yearns for a new wielder.”
“You believe that among us is worthy of it?”
“I am certain that the sword pulled the rightful wielder into this place by sheer notion of destiny.”
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
The nameless wizard says so.
“Well then, I’ll try pulling it since I have the mightiest strength…normally…in this group.”
Mimi said as she bares her strong bony claws and twirls her arm around to stretch. She’s really not confident on what she said and I do believe that strength is no longer the basis here whether you can pull the sword or not.
Mimi grabs onto the handle of the sword and arches her body. With a groan, Mimi started pulling on the sword. Noticing that it is harder than she thought, she immediately grabbed the handle with her other hand but to no avail, the sword didn’t budge.
“I give up. What’s with this sword anyway?”
Mimi returned to our side, crestfallen and tired of her attempt. Meanwhile, Topaz was staring hard at the sword and her stare grew intense that it becomes a glare.
Noticing that I was watching her, she stops from her mindless activity and faces me with a frown on her face.
“What’s wrong?”
“The sword won’t move at all. I already used The Blessing of Gaia to somehow make the ground spit it out but the altar that holds the sword was not responding.
“That’s cheating, although you failed.”
Topaz groans in frustration. I can’t believe she tried to move the whole thing using her magic. It’s not the same as pulling the sword anymore if she was able to do what she intended to.
I turn my eyes to the twins, however, the two simply shook their heads.
“I don’t have the slightest confidence in pulling it.”
“Yeah, it is as Casablanca said, it’s a hassle to learn swordsmanship at this point just for a sword.”
“That’s not how I worded it, Hibiscus!”
Their blunt reply was unexpected but true. I wouldn’t want to learn a new technique because some sword I don’t know got pulled. This has only gone to two contenders that actually use swords, me and Daisy.
I turn my sight to Daisy, however, I found her already in front of the sword. Her hand was already at the pommel of it and she is staring at it intently with eyes lit on fire.
“That’s…a sword…a sword that has chosen a king once…”
The nameless wizard mutters.
Right from the very beginning, the nameless wizard already knew who the sword will pick. I already had the hunch too but seeing is believing.
In front of us, Daisy raises the sword overhead while looking at the gleam the sword lets out. She was so fascinated by the sword that her attention was solely focused on it.
“The sword has already chosen someone from the start. The reason she was pulled to the sword is that she has a calling. The sword mesmerizes the girl with a promise of victory.”
Though the trials are quite bland or just plain annoying, it’s a fact that Daisy was here, doing her best despite the circumstances. I can’t say that we didn’t do our best but that girl, she always looks at something beyond us.
She has the virtue and drives for a greater aspiration. That is Daisy, the girl who once dreamt to be a king.
Snapping back to reality, Daisy return her sight towards our direction, however, she was quite shocked. Her vision moves left to right in fluster.
“Umm…there are…ten…eleven…twelve knights around us…”
Eh?!
Upon her words, everyone including the nameless wizard starts looking around for the knights that Daisy mentioned, however, we found none.
“Miss, are you certain of your words?”
“Yes! They…they are all bowing down in one knee while they are holding a sword in vertically in front of them.”
“That’s a vow of loyalty, little miss. Although I can’t see them, I know what it means for them to do such an act.”
“What…”
Daisy was flabbergasted as her jaw was dropping. Her comprehension of the situation was taking a toll on her and she is just standing there with a really horrified expression.
“W-What is this?! T-They are gesturing something at me. Like drink or something!”
“They are drunkards. Pay it no mind.”
“You want me to deal with this like it’s nothing?!”
Good luck, Daisy! It seems you found yourself a new and troublesome power!
“Hey, I don’t this sword after all! How can I dispose of it?!”
“Don’t be like that. It has chosen you so feel proud about it.”
“But, these guys are really annoying!”
“Can’t you order them?”
“Oh…well…please stop being annoying!”
Daisy shouted at the top of her lungs. Although I want to feel pity for her, I can’t since all of us here can’t see anything. It was like she is having a one-man show.
“What happened?”
“They stopped and became dust then entered the sword.”
“There you have it. I think you can also command the sword the same thing.”
“I will order it not to be annoying?”
“No! You can order it to dematerialize. You are already the wielder so you can call forth for it when you want to.”
“…I thought I’d be living the rest of my life holding a sword!”
It didn’t even take Daisy three seconds to make the sword disappear from her hand. She breathes a sigh of relief.
I want to close this case already, however, I have something to ask the nameless wizard.
“Hey, how did you know that Daisy will be chosen? Right from the very start, you are aware of it, yet you still put us into those trials.”
“The trials were partly for entertainment.”
“Bastard!”
“Half of it is to determine whether the people she is with is good or bad. I am quite relieved so. As for how I determined it, it was quite simple.”
The nameless wizard started walking around the room while keeping his eyes on us.
“Since even among you, she is the most normal.”
“What does that mean?”
“When I said I have seen through all of you, I mean it. With my Mystic Eyes that see all, I have seen through all of you and what power you hold.”
The air gradually tenses up and I can feel something crawling on my skin. Everyone felt the same as the nameless wizard once again exudes a huge amount of magical energy.
“You with the white hair, you are the most dangerous and the most powerful being I’ve ever seen. Although I don’t think you are aware but, you are already beyond a... no, I’ll stop here.”
“…I am…is that…”
That can’t be…
I think he is just joking.
“The two elves house a god and goddess that is foreign from this world. They are already blessed with immense divine power. The sword will choose not the strongest but the most valiant.”
He has already seen through the twins. He already hit the mark but I am unsure if he knows that the god and goddess that rest inside Casablanca and Hibiscus are actually entity from Greek Mythology.
He pointed next at Topaz.
“This girl is an existence that presents two sides of a coin, a body of an evil but bringer of light. It’s quite interesting because she is a complex being with seemingly no clear distinction. I find her a lot more intriguing than any powers that I have witnessed today.”
Really? Then stop staring at her chest…
Finally, he pointed at Mimi.
“Lastly, this girl. How many identities are you hiding?”
“Hmm? Surely you are referring to my inner beast? My behemoth form!”
“Behemoth? What are you talking about? Aren’t you in disguise right now?”
“Disguise? What are you talking about?”
“I mean you have this multi-layered seal inside you…wait…I see.”
The nameless wizard places a finger on his chin and started contemplating while intently staring at Mimi.
I know Mimi is somewhat a trickster from time to time but I don’t think she is in disguise or anything. If she is, Violetta or Senya would have immediately exposed it.
The guise of Mimi and Behemoth…
But something really hits hard here…about the multi-layered seal that the nameless wizard said…
“You…are you not aware? My eyes don’t falter with anything. I see no monstrosity such as a behemoth under your façade. In fact, you are quite similar to your truest form. You don a blazing red hair and scarlet eyes and you are overall tan.”
“Don’t spout gibberish. Look at my skin! It’s milky white and my hair is blond!”
“I walked this land once a thousand years ago. The people that I know that fits the category of donning such appearance from the demon race are either the former Demon Lord Baal or anyone from his lineage. Ah, I remember now, that appearance!”
“…No…this is…”
“It’s his daughter, Camellia.”
“Don’t…I don’t know that name…!”
Mimi started staggering and her face grows paler at every second the nameless wizard says something.
“Did the seal imposed on you alter not only your memories but also your appearance? You are just like her, Princess Camellia! Or in reality, are you not her?”
“Who…no…I don’t…why…it’s not…! Bleerrggh…”
Mimi throws up while her whole body was shaking. Even as she was on her knees, she kept shaking her head.
I had enough…
“Stop! What are you trying to do with Mimi?!”
“Ah, please accept my apology! I have overstepped my boundaries. That said, she is quite enthralled with what was implanted on her head. It was quite interesting.”
“No more words from you.”
The nameless wizard only sprouted a faint smile.
I rush to Mimi’s side and started rubbing her back to comfort her. Likewise, the rest took a fighting stance towards the nameless wizard.
“I know…I know fate won’t let me win against all of you even if the visible odds are favored to me.”
“You will let us out of here now. You didn’t attack us physically but…inducing mental stress is the same as doing physical harm. No…it’s worse…”
“Once again, please accept my apology to you girls. To show the sincerity of my feelings, I shall comply with your request.”
The nameless wizard waves his hand to us before a bright flash of light enveloped the whole place.
What was that…?
All about Mimi and stuff…
If what he said was true…
Then Mimi’s life was born from repeated tragedies of the past…
