The day after yesterday, we prepare for a new day and a new goal.
After our daily routines of brushing our teeth, taking a quick bath and doing our each and every personal business and my daily dialogue with Violetta to report our activities for today, we set out and head towards the adventurer’s guild.
When one hears about the adventurer’s guild, especially people back from my world…or that world where my mother sent me to, it means the joy of hunting monsters, doing odd jobs and getting paid for all of it.
There’s also a ranking system that you can be proud of and a place where you can show off your skills and achievements.
But for me, I don’t have that excitement.
Bad memories are bad memories and my first encounter with adventurers outside the Astlan Kingdom Capital is the worst. I know that they are only vouching for their own safety but to heartlessly leave me behind, it left one of the deepest scars in my heart.
Lady Hinoki drops us in front of the adventurer’s guild with some reminders and tried to push us some pieces of big gold coins.
There’s no reason to decline so I took it.
The Adventurer’s Guild in the Elven City is an independent organization, and that’s no different from all its offices around the world. It’s close to the west entrance of the city and probably the most crowded district as it allows free enter and exit.
The West District of the Elven Capital is separated from the rest of the districts with a small wall. Meaning, it’s probably the most visited part of the Elven City but it is also where they sparsely use any of their technologies.
The six of us entered the large establishment with three floors. The huge two-panel door isn’t made of glass like what they have in the inner city. Like any standard establishment of the guild, it’s only made of wood and stones.
“Casablanca, does this bring back any bad memories?”
“Might be, might be not!~”
“Ah, well, after all, this is how we met Susanoo!”
“True. Let’s be careful not to get tricked again.”
It seems that the twins had their fair share of experience with adventurers. In contrast, Mimi, Topaz and, Daisy are all looking around the spacious place.
The inside contains the standard receptionist's desks with a panel of glass between them and the client, a bar where people can order drinks and snacks, a mess where people can eat their food and drink their beverages, and they even have a consultation corner and a healer’s desk.
They also have a small store inside that sells adventuring supplies with a little inflation with the price. If you want cheaper supplies, weapons, armors, and potions, you have to walk around the city to go to stores.
“Can I buy some snacks?”
“No, didn’t we just have breakfast, Topaz?!”
“Yes but, the smell allures me. What are they having? Skewers?”
“Asagao, please say something!”
Daisy called out to me as she tried to reprimand Topaz who looks longingly at the snack store. The number one reason I have a lot of wealth is to feed Topaz and Alstroe so I am ready for any situations like this.
I readily handed her a single gold coin and she happily left with a smile on her face. I can tell from a distance that the kiosk of the snack bar had his mouth gaping. Knowing Topaz, she might have used the gold coin to buy snacks.
“You should properly discipline her, Asagao. You shouldn’t spoil someone to their heart content like that, especially when it comes to being a glutton!”
“But Topaz never gets fat at all. All the food goes down to a certain place and none go to her belly or anything at all.”
“…Hmm?”
Daisy tilted her head.
When it comes to this, she is oddly innocent or one would say, naïve. But that’s put a lot of weight for Daisy when it comes to charm.
Getting back on track, I watch the scene inside the guild again and saw how people act. The commission board is teeming with people and there’s quite a line in the reception. I can’t say I’m a fan of lining up when there’s an outrageous amount of people.
Some early birds are even having a light drink of beer and in one corner, a lump of adventurers cowers in fear with a huge bump on their heads.
What happened?!
“Oh, are you interested in what happened, little girl?”
“Uwah?! You guys?!”
“It isn’t little sis? We’ve met before haven’t we, back at the Dragon Continent.”
A murmur started spreading like a wildfire as four hulking muscle men appeared in front of us. Their so muscular to the point of disgusting but they also radiate an aura of a strong person.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
If I remember correctly, they are the four S-class adventurers called Dabt, Morg, Er’trur, and Luur!
“H-Hey there…uh…Thanks for back then.”
“No, URK! Problem!”
“You don’t need to strike a pose while you talk! Actually, why are you guys striking a pose?!”
“Now, now, little sis, don’t make a fuss over some minor details. That reminds me, where’s the brother with nice pecs?”
“Ichirou?”
“Oh, so that’s his name? I’ll remember it!~”
Crap!
I’m sorry Ichirou!
I know these guys and they are after Ichirou’s nice pecs.
Their eyes look at us with respect, unlike some adventurers earlier with hidden motive or even lecherous eyes.
Of course, these four actually…swings that way?
With their presence, none can actually do something cliché but I guarantee everyone that I am scared of them!
“Okay, little sis and to all your friends, since we are acquaintances, let us give you some advantages over the guild staffs. As for what happened earlier here…”
The leader of the four, the demon kin, Dabt, beckons us towards the staff room on the second floor.
“I haven’t said anything yet…”
“Oh, but our eyes aren’t that hazy yet. When important people come, especially when they are these young, some special staffs should handle your problem. It looks like you are not here to register or put up a commission. I can read it in your eyes, little sis.”
“Are you guys actually a good guy?!”
“We are the champions of justice!”
This is quite flamboyant but rather disturbing than I thought.
If I don’t know anything about them, nine out of ten encounters, I’d run away at full speed, away from them. These four are S-rank adventurers after all and they seem like they have a name known to everyone.
Their overwhelming muscles are…well…would be a nightmare…
I turn to look at Casablanca, Hibiscus, and Emby and they all have a stupefied but pale countenance. Then I look at Topaz but she is just carrying a tray full of food and I am guessing she already ate half of it.
Mimi is trying to keep her poker face but the discomfort lay in her eyes.
Meanwhile, Daisy still can’t keep up with the situation and just nervously looks around.
We climbed up the second floor and another hall smaller than the first floor appears in our sight. Only a few adventurers walk in the floor and the commission board only has few orders in it.
“Are you curious? Those quests are only commissioned to A and S rank adventurers. Although rumors say that there’s an SS-rank adventurer that actually do a solo subjugation for dragons and higher beings because we never saw any raid order in a while now.”
“SS-rank…”
“It’s only a rumor. They said it might be a hero who holds great knowledge and prowess. Some also said that the lone SS-rank warrior can only be commissioned by the kingdoms themselves.”
I’m so sorry. The SS-rank adventurer that you speak of is a big idiot!
Hero? NO!
Great Knowledge?! NO!
Well, it’s true that she is a literal calculator but if we are talking about being wise, no, she is not at all.
“Umm, about what happened earlier…”
“Ah, that? Well, those fools got a spat with another party. The party I mentioned are girls too like you and your companions, little sis. Underestimate them and wham, they got their jaws hanging.”
“Another party of girls?”
“Yes, they are the famous party of Reminiscence. By the way, our party is called Justice!”
“J-Justice…?! Anyway, what are they like?! The Reminiscence?”
“Hmm, I really don’t know. Last time I check, they only have five members. Right now, it seems that they have increased to seven. The new member is quite young…as young as you, little sis. The other one is a little bit older but still a hatchling.”
“Why do I feel something bad is bound to happen?”
As I was thinking how things turning sour for us, we arrived at one reception desk.
“Oh, if it isn’t Sir Dabt and his friends. What brings you back here?”
“Miss, these girls are in need of something. I take it you realize who are they, no?”
“Hmm?”
“Three princesses and one noble and the other two seem to be an important figure as well.”
“Ah!”
Amazing…
Dabt already determined our identities with this meeting alone. No, it would be weird if an adventurer of his caliber cannot ascertain people of high standing.
The receptionist girl panics as she also identified us. She started shuffling some papers and in the process, tried to fix her glasses as it falls several times from her movements. I’d say, this one here is a greenhorn, unlike Miss Cecille who is a true professional.
“Alright, I’ll leave them in your hands now. We have a place to be!”
“Ah, thanks for this!”
“Don’t mention it, little sis. Next time we cross path, I hope you are with the brother with good pecs and shoulders.”
“Ahahaha…”
The party of Justice left and they left us with the fidgety receptionist.
“W-w-well, what kind of request…d-does the party of a high standing has!?”
“Calm down. We are not even registered adventurers.”
“Eh!? Ee-EeH?! But that’s…how…”
“We are here to get permission to enter the Labyrinth of Avalon. We heard that we need permission from the guild because you will issue the permit since we are not official adventurers.”
“Y-Yes! But for that…t-the Guildmaster needs to have a talk with you…”
“That’s understandable since there will be issues.”
“But the guild master is currently talking with another party right now…! Ah, but…I think it’s fine since the party right now is talking about...umm…entering the same labyrinth too!”
“Now that’s a good chance for us. Please lead us.”
“Yes!”
The receptionist left her post and beckons us to enter one of the hallways inside that led to many more rooms.
She then led us to the room by the end of the hall but before she could even knock, the door opens and a healthy middle-aged man wearing leather armor appears.
“Ah, guild master!”
“Oh, Reia, what’s the matter?”
“These girls said that they want access to the Labyrinth of Avalon. I was about to lead them to your office for a talk.”
“Reia, these girls are strong so they pass already. With one glance, I already knew that they have something extraordinary.”
“As expected of the guild master! But, the issuance of the permit.”
“Yes, I shall do it now since there’s also another party that wanted to enter. It’s not like they can’t but because they have people with them without adventurer’s registration, they are also going through the same process.”
The man called the guild master just took one glance at us and identified our fighting prowess. That may seem to be the case but the receptionist didn’t know that the man scanned us with a magic using his eyes.
It might something similar to looking at someone’s magical power and he judged that we are passable.
“Also, guild master, as you can see, these girls are…”
“In the adventurer’s guild, we treat everyone equally. I don’t want to hear anymore, Reia! So, I must ask, for what reason you wanted to enter the Labyrinth? Let me tell this in advance but it’s a pretty low-level place.”
The guild master turned to us with a quizzical look.
“We kind of lack the teamwork so we wanted to work on our foundation.”
“Hmm, I see, that’s a plausible and simple answer. Most adventurers will dive a higher level dungeon with a half-baked party and will be perished. That’s foolery at its finest.”
“Does it happen all the time?”
“Hmm, yeah, pretty much. Those idiots who get overly confident of their abilities and skills end up becoming magical beast’s food, on the other hand, you girls are quite strong despite being young.”
“How can you say that?”
“Hmm, other than the level of your magical energy, there’s also your mannerism. It shows how much you’ve used a weapon or moved your body.”
“Really?!”
“But a greenhorn is a greenhorn. Your bodies aren’t even matured enough for anything strenuous. I do want to stop all of you but we welcome anyone strong and willing to learn individuals. So that’s why I’m going to give you permission.”
“That easily…”
“Don’t worry about it. Why not collaborate with the party inside. They are also asking permit so talk with them.”
“Yes…”
The guild master left together with the receptionist. As we were told, wait inside the room and try to learn from the adventurers we are going with.
This time, we’re called greenhorns, huh.
Also, the guild master is a fine leader. Decisiveness and keen observation, one of the strong points one needed when they are in charge.
We might as well do what they advise us but…
It’s not really going to go any better, right?”
“Hey there, pretty girls.”
“Yeah…”
It’s not like I haven’t foreseen this but whatever. I’m not even surprised.
I’m just feeling a little lethargic seeing her face again and her whole party chilling down with a tea and a cake served to them.
“Boss…”
“Seems like both of us thinks alike, no?”
