The Calm Before The Storm

The Calm Before The Storm

King Of The Night.

It's a pretty common alias that has several different meanings depending on the country and culture., but in Grim city it only has one meaning.

It was the title given to the one who controlled the Night District. King of the outlaws (Exsul). And Miko has obtain this title for himself.

Of course this news sent shockwaves throughout the city.

4th District.

This was the district that had the most advance hospitals and medical facilities. Not just medical but also biological on a whole. Rumor has it that human experiments are conducted in this district, mostly on Infecteds.

But what most people didn't know was that this district was where the city's most powerful crime organization, the Twin Headed Dragon Syndicate was based.

Inside the 4th District there was a place called Long’s Pharmacy. Compared to the rest of the grand looking hospitals and awe inspiring research facilities this place easily went unnoticed.

The interior was bland, the medicine they sold weren't the latest or the best, and the staff which consisted of an old couple were extremely slow. If one didn't know better you would think that they're not even remotely interested in making any money.

That's because that was the case.

A man dressed in a suit with a head full of white hair walked into the pharmacy.

When the old man who was at the counter saw him he smiled and nodded.

“Good evening, Mr. Blanche.”

“Good evening, Monsieur Long. Is the madame well?”

Blanche asked with a smile.

“Yes, she's currently having a quick nap. Thanks for asking.”

Blanche smiled as he approached the counter and took what seemed to be a medicine bottle from the old man. He then continued walking past the counter and headed around the back.

He pushed open a door at the back and stood in front of a long hall.

Blanche played with the medicine bottle in his hand as he walked down the seemly endless hall.

After around 15 minutes of walking Blanche stopped in front of a wall that seemly came out of nowhere.

Blanche opened the medicine bottle and took out a red pill. He swallowed the red pill and his eyes suddenly turned red.

A light then shot out of the wall and scanned his eyes.

(Dragon Blood Pill confirmed. Admission accepted.)

A voice echoed in the hall, and the wall that was blocking Blanche disappeared.

What appeared in front of him was a town with oriental buildings and people walking around dressed in asian martial arts clothing. The entire placed looked like it came from Wuxia movie.

Obviously Blanche who was dressed in a suit stood out like a sore thumb.

“Who would have ever thought that the Syndicate had their own hidden District? And they worship the dragon god Shenlong….. I'm not too good with dragons.”

Blanche said to himself.

“Oh! It's the pervert!”

Blanche heard an energetic voice and turned to his right.

There he saw a black haired girl with cat-like eyes staring at him.

“Madame Nana, good evening. And I prefer it if you at least called a perverted gentleman. I'm a man of class after all.”

“I find it hard to believe that a man of class would be asked to be called a pervert.”

Said Nana.

Blanche shrugged in response.

“Oh by the way, are you still trying to destroy us for the inside?”

“Of course, it's the only reason I'm here.”

Blanche admittedly said.

“At least try to hide it.”

Nana playfully said.

“What's the use of hiding it? The Syndicate already knew my goals from the start, and still recruited me.”

“That's because having a talented person like you under our control is far better than killing you or letting you run lose, that's what my father said.”

“And you're father is a wise man.”

Blanche said while laughing.

“Well, I don't have any immediate plans to crush you guys from the inside so relax. For now I'm being as obedient as a lap dog.”

Nana started laughing when she heard that.

“Oh, I just heard something interesting.”

She smiled mischievously.

“Apparently, the Night District got a king now who rules everything there.”

Blanche’s eyes widen when he heard that.

“Really now? After 25 years someone was able to repeat the same feat. Who is it?”

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

Nana’s smiled then dropped and a look of hate appeared on her face.

“Heavenly Demon King Miko.”

She spoke as if spitting upon the name.

“…….”

Blanche’s expression was also hard to describe.

“What's the Syndicate take on this?”

“Don't know, but I did hear that Sebas isn't too thrilled and is organizing an all out attack on the Night District to destroy Exsul.”

“I believe that should be confidential information. As always I'm impressed by the syndicate’s information network.”

Blanche then smiled.

“An all out attack from a pillar? I wonder how will you handle this, Your Majesty.”

After Exsul took over the 11th District in less than a month by eliminating all of the large gangs from within, Miko was publicly recognized as the King Of The Night and became a heavy weight in the crime world.

When news of this spread out, the Law Enforcers announced an immediate ban from entering the district.

Anyone who is caught entering or leaving the district would be considered a criminal and would be arrested on site.

There were no exceptions.

After that report, the public viewed the already dangerous Night District as an entity separate from the city. It was like a foreign country within their borders.

A gangsters’ paradise or crime kingdom with Miko as king.

Inside the Night District.

Although it's inhabitants were now considered outlaws and refugees by everyone else, the people that lived in the Night District were pretty much unbothered.

Now that the entire district was under one flag, gang wars were pretty much nonexistent. So walking or working at night were at lot more safer compared to the recent years.

The enforcers who were already scarce in the district also became nonexistent. Now Exsul members served as their replacement as everything was under their control.

Exsul was already like a private army rather than a gang, so patrolling the streets and keeping order came naturally to them.

However what most people didn't know was that Exsul wasn't based in the 11 District. It was instead based in an ordinary and unappealing house in the 17th District; or more specifically underneath it.

“Sir Code Breaker.”

Edward was in his office underground overlooking some charts.

Since he was Miko's crime partner Edward naturally held a very high position in Exsul. In fact he could issue any order he wants and it would be carried out by the members.

The only one who could overturn any decision made by Edward was Miko himself.

In other words, Edward was the #2 while Miko was the number one. Edward was also seen as the manager of the organization. This was because other than the few plans and tactics created by Miko every other action was the group took was thought up by and executed by Edward himself.

Edward was also responsible for all of the organization’s business transactions and deals.

In actuality Edward was always a great business man if it wasn't for his brother’s interference he would've risen to top along time ago.

So Edward was naturally well respected by the Exsul members.

While Exsul members called Miko “Don”, they called Edward “Sir”. But they also used his nickname at Edward’s request.

“What is it?”

He asked the subordinate that had just came in.

“We received news that some remnants of the gangs we’ve destroyed has banned together and are planning to rebel against our rule.”

Said the subordinate.

“Destroyed them.”

Edward said without looking away from the charts.

“Destroy them with every ounce of our power, and make sure you throughly massacre them all. No exceptions.”

“Yes!”

The subordinate, Yota answered.

Edward learnt from Miko that decisiveness was essential when it came to surviving in this type of world.

If there was a potential threat, destroy it without mercy. The only exception was when they have more value alive than dead.

“Anything else?”

Asked Edward.

“Yes. This is a bit personal question of mine, but what are we going to do about the news of the enforcers impending attack.”

“Don't know. The don handles anything that has to do with the military.”

Edward answered with indifference. He had confidence that Miko could deal with it somehow.

“Where is the don?”

Yota asked.

It was obvious that he was a bit anxious.

Edward finally took his eyes from the charts on the screen and looked at him.

“The don is training in the virtual reality chamber.”

*Boom!*

In a room that was on the other end of the base, Miko was in an intense battle.

And his opponent was Ishma.

*Boom!*

Miko jumped to the side and dodged a stomp by Ishma, which caused the mountain he was standing on to split up like it was cut.

Miko floated in the air with his wings on his back and looked down at her while breathing heavily.

“Your hand to hand combat skills are really top notch. It must've been hone through all of your death matches.”

Ishma didn't have her usually mischievous air about her. She instead had a cold and dangerous atmosphere.

‘Damn, for someone with the attention span of a cat I have to admit that she's powerful.’

Miko thought to himself.

“Come on this is no time to be spacing out.”

“?!”

Ishma suddenly appeared before Miko and flipped and slammed her heel down on his head.

Miko quickly gather Qi around his arms and lifted them to block it.

*Boom!*

“Ugh?!”

He was sent crashing into the ground, where he landed on his feet and destroyed the earth underneath him.

He looked up and saw Ishma with her jet black crow wings falling down towards him.

Ishma swung down her hand and an arc of green light rush down towards him.

Miko quickly activated [Dragon Rage] and created two giant hands which caught the arc and crushed it.

“Wrong!”

*Boom!*

Ishma appeared behind him and kick upside his head.

Miko bounced off the ground a few times before forcible spinning his body and got to his feet.

“Ive already told you. You need to try drawing out my power that's sealed inside you.”

Ishma said as she looked down on him.

“I've been trying but I just can't seem to connect to your power without holding you in your sword form.”

“Like I said, we're connected by a soul contract. We're literally one so you should be able to draw out my demonic power. If you do then I can teach some of my originals, which I'm no longer able to use because you're not strong enough.”

“And like I said, I can't seem to feel the connection to your power that's sealed inside me.”

“Pathetic.”

“What was that?! I don't want to hear that from someone who still occasion wet the bed!”

“I told you that was Regis playing a prank on me!”

Ishma screamed back with a red face.

It was actually Regis as she said, but Miko just wanted to get back at her.

“Hmph! I don't know why you can't do something as simply drawing out power that was already stored inside you.”

“It's probably your brother’s seal interfering. I can't think of any other explanation.”

Said Regis who was spectating from a far.

“Well, that is possible. But you said that you'll surpass my brother so just do it.”

Said Ishma.

“Just do it? You make sound like I'm taking out the trash or something. Ajax was a monster even on Higher Beings standard. I can't just surpass him.”

Miko said with an annoyed tone.

“Too bad. Then I can't teach you my God Killing techniques.”

Ishma said as if giving up.

This all started when Ishma casually mentioned that she had created some god killing techniques with the help of her father. Interested in this Miko urged her to teach him them, but as Ishma wasn't a good teacher the only way Miko could learn it was if he saw it himself.

However, Ishma was unable to use her true powers because of Ajax’s seal. As an alternative Ishma propose Miko accessing her power that was sealed inside him and then she'll try her best to teach him her techniques.

But as you can see it was unsuccessful. Miko was unable to draw out even an ounce of Ishma’s power.

Whether it was the seal interfering or Miko's incompetence, it was unknown.

“Since you can't learn my techniques yet, I can just spar with you to make sure you don't get rusty.”

Said Ishma.

“That's surprising a good idea, Ishma. Fighting people stronger than you, like Miko always done, isn't always a good way to get stronger. Sometimes you need to fight on your level so that you can get a better understanding of your strengths and weakness as well as your limits.”

Regis commented from the side.

“Oh, you've finally realized my greatness! Bask in my glory!"

“Yeah, yeah. All hail the stupid crow.”

Regis mumbled.

She then turned Miko.

“So Sebas is coming to crush us. What are you going to do about it?”

“That's easy. Crush him instead.”

Miko spoke a devious smile.

“If Sebas wants to finish this in an all out war than I have no problem creating hell with him. He has troops, so do I. He has guns, so do I. If it's death he wants its death he gets.”

Miko released his claws as if he was itching to sink them into Sebas’ flesh.

“Just watch how I knock over one of the pillars!”
