The second day of the war in the Night District ended before anyone knew it.
“My lord, it's too soon for you to return to the battlefield.”
Back in Sebas’ camp, an female attendant was holding on an injured Sebas who was trying to force his way through.
“Let go of me, woman! I must kill that bastard!”
Sebas roared and tried to pull the woman off him, but she held on desperately and tried with all her might to hold him down.
“See?! You can't even throw me off! That shows that you're in no condition to fight!”
The female attendant shouted.
“I have to kill him!”
At this moment someone walked into the tent.
“Calm down, Sebas. Your attendant is right, you're in no shape to fight.”
“General Carter!”
The attendant breath a sigh of relief when she saw the man walked in.
He was dark skinned, tall, muscular, and had black hair and green eyes.
“Carter, what are you doing here? I told you and others to defend the 16th District while I was away.”
Sebas calmed down when he saw the man.
“Regina and the others are more than enough. I came here because I was worried for your safety. You didn't bring a single General and left your most powerful weapons and soldiers and came marching here. That was too reckless. Your current troops are only 65% of your full force after all. So I had to come to help balance it out.”
Sebas said nothing in retort to carter’s argument and even sat back down on his bed.
“Then, Carter. I want you to kill that brat for me!”
He suddenly ordered.
However, Carter shook his head in response.
“You're letting your emotions getting the best of you again. We're not suppose to kill the Heavenly Demon King, at most we're suppose to capture him. Killing him is suicide.”
Carter calmly explained.
“For now concentrate on healing your wounds and let me handle the rest.”
The attendant nodded in agreement to Carter’s words.
It was a well known fact that Carter was Sebas’ limiter. Sebas was very emotional and tends to make irrational decisions when he's worked up, despite his high intellect. Carter was the one who was responsible for keeping Sebas in check and not to let him fly out of control.
Ironically it was Sebas himself who appointed Carter with this responsibility. This meant that Sebas was well aware of how emotional he was and knew he needed to be kept under control.
Because of this Carter held almost the same amount of power and influence in the military as Sebas, a pillar.
He could overwrite almost any decision Sebas makes as long as it could come across as irrational by Sebas’ subordinates.
As for why Carter was chosen for this role, well there were rumors that they knew each other from childhood.
……They were also rumors that they were more than friends.
“Alright, if it's you then I'll leave it to you.”
Saying so, Sebas laid down and closed his eyes to sleep.
He didn't see sinister expression on Carter’s face.
When Miko finally opened his eyes it was already nightfall.
He looked around and saw Sola sleeping not too far away from him.
“……”
Miko frowned.
It wasn't because he was upset to see sola, it was because he wasn't able to detect when she entered the room.
(She has been monitoring you for a while now. She seems to really like you.)
“….How long have I been out?”
(Around 18 hours or so)
Miko was slightly surprised to hear that.
“I fell into a coma for so long? And I was sleeping so heavily that I wasn't able to sense those around me.”
(A side effect of your bloodlines clashing, I guess. I honestly thought you would be out for longer than you were.)
Miko got up and realized that there was a blanket spread over him. It didn't take a genius to guess who placed it over him.
(This girl is very considerate towards you.)
“Considerate? She's basically worshipping me.”
(You act like you don't like it.)
“…….”
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
Miko didn't answer. He approached Sola and shook her awake.
“...Don?”
“Sola, what about your duties? Who's leading your squad?”
Sola quickly stood up.
“I'm sorry, I just got worried and came back. But don't worry I made sure to destroy a significant amount of the enemy forces before returning!”
Sola quickly reported.
“….And Yota?”
“He's still carrying out your orders.”
Miko nodded his head in satisfaction.
He didn't inquire about Regis and Ishma because if something was to go wrong he would've received a telepathic message from them.
“As there been any signs of Sebas retaking the field after I fell asleep?”
Sola shook her head.
“We've received reports that he was heavily injured and was removed from the front lines to recovery.”
“Is that so? I guess not everyone is as sturdy as I am.”
Miko laughed and moved to exit his office.
“?!”
Before he could leave he froze in place.
He suddenly felt his entire body grew heavy and his vision darken.
He felt like his soul was being drawn out of his body.
No, it was like someone was trying to summon his entire existence from a faraway place.
Miko suddenly found himself in a white room. No, it wasn't a room. It was a place that seemed incredibly vast, while being devoid of any forms of colors.
He looked around and saw ancient ruins everywhere. There were no signs of life anywhere he looked.
Just as he was about to ask where he was, he felt a presence behind him.
He quickly turned around and saw someone standing behind him.
It was a young girl around 14 or 15. She had blazing red hair with glittering golden ends that flowed down to her feet.
Her figure wasn't voluptuous, but it was extremely alluring. Her face was as beautiful as the sun after an everlasting storm. Her eyes looked like they could put the most precious diamonds to shame.
She was dressed in red and gold robes fitting for the highest empress in the world.
Her overall impression could only be called “Heavenly Radiant”.
Miko looked at this girl with shock, along with Tiamat she was the most beautiful person he's ever seen. Even surpassing bloom.
If Tiamat was the glittering ocean, then the girl in front of him was like the raising sun.
The girl looked at Miko with an overjoyed expression, but yet tears flowed from her eyes.
Seeing the girl like this made Miko's heartache, but strangely enough her crying appearance seemed so familiar.
Suddenly a name popped up in his mind.
“M….R….”
He tried to called the name but it quickly slipped from his mind as fast as it popped up.
“Huh? What was it again?”
The girl started crying even more when she heard that.
“….Huh?....What was my name again?”
A look of confusion came over Miko's face.
“Huh? That's strange. Why does my heart hurts so much?”
He said as he placed his hand on his chest with an even more confused expression.
Seeing Miko like this caused the girl to become even more distressed.
Miko stood there as he felt his very existence fading away and an empty feeling being born within him.
“Hey, tell me. Who am I? Who are you? What am I doing here?”
Every question Miko asked made the girl cry even harder than before.
She tried shouted but no sound came from her mouth.
She tried to move but it looked like the best she could do to was move her right hand.
She stretched it out towards Miko, but then-
“Hey…”
His face lost all expression and his eyes became lifeless like a doll’s.
“Why am I alive?”
As if this was the finally straw that contained her sanity, the girl started screaming.
There was still no sound coming from her, but anyone who saw her could see that she was releasing a scream of agony and despair.
This scene didn't move the doll-like Miko. He just stared at her emotionlessly and crook his head to the side as if he was trying to understand the girl.
“Well, whatever.”
Miko coldly turned his back to the girl.
“I think there's somewhere I'm supposed to be.”
He said in monotone and walked away from the girl.
The girl who could only move her hand before, suddenly fell to the floor as if collapsing.
When she saw that Miko was walking away from her, she stretched her hand towards him while screaming, as if calling out his name desperately.
Miko didn't react in the slightest, he continued walking away.
However just before he disappeared, a single tear flowed from his eye despite his cold expression.
He walked away and disappeared, leaving the girl behind in the white world.
“Please…”
Maybe because she was alone a voice finally came from the girl’s mouth.
“Please don't leave me alone again.”
Her figure soon started fading away. Just as she was about to disappear, spoke one finally sentence.
“Hurry up, and return…..Boy.”
(Miko?)
“Ah.”
Hearing Tiamat's called his name, Miko snapped out of his daze.
(What's wrong? You looked like your mind wander off somewhere for a minute there.)
She asked with obvious worry.
“Ah, sorry. I must've been daydreaming.”
(Daydreaming? About what?)
“That…..I can't remember.”
(You can't remember?)
He nodded.
“Well, it's probably nothing important.”
Miko shook off the drowsy feeling his body was experiencing and walked out the door with Sola following him.
“Don, are you going to head back to the battlefield?”
Miko nodded.
“I think it's time to put and end to this war.”
He said.
“I suddenly don't feel like playing with Sebas anymore, so I'm going to end this.”
Miko suddenly found himself in a foul mood and wanted to take it out on someone. Crushing a pillar under his feet should help a bit, was what he thought.
Miko spoke casually but Tiamat could sense the emotions boiling inside of him.
This made her extremely confused because she couldn't figure out what could've made Miko feel so agitated.
However, she didn't say anything and decided to observe him for now.
The moment Miko left his office he ordered Sola to gather all of the Exsul members fit for battle and went ahead and left them behind.
The more time passed the more anxious Miko became. He couldn't help but have the feeling that he was forgetting something very important. He also felt an unknown anger brewing inside him.
This unknown anger wasn't directed at anyone, so it ate away at Miko's sanity.
If he didn't blow off some steam and quickly he would probably start killing indiscriminately.
Even his subordinates wouldn't be safe.
Miko's anger continued to grew more and more unreasonable as he flew through the skies of the Night District.
*Boom!*
That's when Miko was hit with an attack out of nowhere.
Because of his mind being clouded by anger Miko was too late to react much less dodged it.
“A direct hit!”
Below him a group of soldiers hid behind a building while staring at the smoking surrounding Miko.
The smoke slowly dissipated and Miko's bloody figure was revealed.
All the soldiers smiled cockily when they saw that they harmed the enemy leader.
“…….”
Unfortunately for them, despite his injuries from suffering a direct hit from a missile, Miko didn't feel a thing.
He silently looked down on them, before descending from the sky.
“Tch! I knew that he wouldn't go down with just that, but I had hoped he had at least shed a tear or two. Even a cry of pain would've made my day.”
Said one of the soldiers.
His hatred for Miko was as clear as day.
“Everyone, let's finish the job!”
The moment he said that hundreds of soldiers appeared out of nowhere surrounding Miko.
They had used the invincibility helmet to hide their presence and waited to ambush Miko. The only reason they deactivated it was because they didn't want to mistakenly attack their comrades.
“………”
Surrounded from all sides and was even the target of countless snipers that were hidden away, Miko stood motionlessly with a blank expression.
He slowly swept his eyes over those in front of him as he glanced at his enemies.
And then-
“Heh.”
A smile finally appeared on his face.
However this smile was accompanied by bloodlust so thick that it made the surrounding soldiers feel like they could see the gates of hell.
“Thanks for delivering yourselves to me in my hour of need.”
Miko's voice lost its boyish charm and sounded like it was coming from the pits of hell.
Crimson aura started leaking from his body as his fangs and claws were released. His dragon wings even turned jet black.
“For surrendering your meaningless lives to this king, you all need to handsomely rewarded.”
His eyes turned blood colored and an aura of death swept across the land.
“For your diligent services…..I award thou death!”
