87: Dinner

“Knock. Knock.”

King Kint opens the front door to a middle-aged man with grey hair. Wearing a White taoist robe. On his left chest is a small symbol of a circle within a rectangle. Footsteps sound behind King Kint.

“May I know who senior is?” asks King Kint. He can tell that the man before him is far, far stronger than himself.

“I’m here to pick up Raja Kint for dinner,” replies the man.

King Kint nods his head. “It’ll only be a moment. Can I interest you in seating?”

“No.”

Raja Kint is currently in his room when he hears a knock. “Come in.”

“He’s here.”

Raja Kint sits up. He follows Master A downstairs to see a grey-haired man at the door. He notices the same symbol that was on the paper. Raja Kint walks over while cupping his hands, “Senior.”

The man nods his head, “Let’s go.”

Raja Kint follows him into a black carriage with a black curtain. The man speaks to the driver to take off. “Clop, clop.” The horses beginning to move.

Raja Kint asks, “What should I call you?”

The man thinks for a moment. “Sky.”

“Why did I get invited to the dinner? From what I heard there’s never been a red envelope handed to a winner before.”

“You’ve shown remarkable ability during the tournament. Anticipating you to become a powerful future figure. You’ve been invited to become acquainted with some people.”

“Will I be the only kid there?”

“No.”

They ride in silence for the remainder of the time. The carriage finally stops and the driver opens the curtain. Raja Kint follows Sky into a fancy building. Seeing the entire first floor empty Raja Kint guessed that the entire building must’ve been rented. Going upstairs, they reach the top floor. Raja Kint sees multiple tables pooled together to create one giant table in the middle of the floor. He also notices a few other people and kids are already present.

Sky points toward the table. “I’m sitting there and you’ll be to my left.”

Raja Kint nods his head.

“You can do what you want. We’re still waiting for a few others to arrive. Including Emperor Bisuke.”

Raja Kint looks at the few kids talking before going to his seat. As if I’m going to be buddy buddy with some random kids. They’ll all be shocked by my cultivation speed. Sitting in a lotus position he closes his eyes.

Sky notices Raja Kint deciding to cultivate. No wonder he’s so strong. He glances toward the few kids present. If only they had the drive.

A boy approaches Raja Kint. “Hey, you’re the winner of the competition, right? Come over and talk with us about the competition.”

Raja Kint opens his eyes and looks at the boy. “Quite the arrogance to speak that way to my face.”

The boy raises an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

“I don’t know you. Yet, you’re making it seem like me wanting to talk with you is only natural.”

“Wouldn’t it only be natural? You can make some friends here. Of course, you can just as easily make enemies.” The boy shrugs his shoulders.

Raja Kint closes his eyes. “I won’t be talking to you.”

The boy turns around, walking back to his group.

Sky’s group of adults noticed the entire interaction. None of them showed their thoughts on their face. After some time another person arrived. With red hair and black eyes.

“Josho Fenix.” A boy walks over with a smile.

Josho Fenix looks toward Raja Kint and everyone present. He then looks at the boy. “What?”

The boy feels a bit awkward. “Well, I was just greeting you.”

Josho Fenix walks off toward the table. He turns to the man who arrived with him. “Where do I sit?”

“There.” The man points toward a seat exactly opposite Raja Kint.

Josho Fenix sits down and cultivates as well. Leaving another one of the kids hanging high and dry. Not soon later a person appeared that Raja Kint wasn’t expecting.

“Raja you’re here!”

Raja Kint opens his eyes to see Calanthe Cardinal. “Guess I shouldn’t be too surprised.”

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

“How could the winner of such a tournament be surprised by little ole me showing up for dinner,” says Calanthe Cardinal

She turns to Josho Fenix. “I certainly wasn’t expecting you to be here. Why’d you come?”

“My teacher said I should come. Otherwise I wouldn’t be here.”

She takes her sit which is two down from Josho Fenix. A girl approached her and Calanthe Cardinal went to talk to the other kids. After a few minutes she returned to her seat. Raja Kint continued to calmly cultivate the entire time. After some time the door opened to a handsome middle-aged man With a young girl by his side.

People quickly cup their fists. Before they could get the words out of their mouth. “No need. This is a simple dinner.”

People quickly took to their seats. Raja Kint opens his eyes to get a good look at the most influential man in the entire empire: Emperor Bisuke. He’s a middle-aged man with handsome features, dark hair and sharp eyes. Not to belie his words. He only came in a simple taoist robe as well. Next to the man is a young girl. With dark hair and eyes. She walked over to Raja Kint.

“It’s nice to meet the winner of the competition. You showcased superb talent.” She held a soft smile.

Raja Kint looks over. “What should I call you?”

“You can just call me Adonia.”

“Thanks for your kind words Adonia. Unlike some people who thought they were more important than they actually were.” Raja Kint glances over at the boy from earlier. Raising his voice enough for the boy to hear.

Hearing Raja Kint the boy’s face turned red. He growls, “Remember what I said.”

“Can you afford that relationship with me?” Raja Kint calmly states.

“Princess you should refrain from interacting with scum. Coming from the lower powers has tainted him beyond redemption,” says a girl from the group.

Adonia Bisuke turns around still holding her soft smile. Yet her voice held a tinge of a threat. “You may have some sway. But when has your sway given you the ability to talk to me in such a way?”

“I was just recommending the princess in fear of him tainting your image. He’s already making enemies among us,” says the girl with a sincere tone.

“Oh?” Before she can speak Raja Kint speaks up.

Raja Kint calmly says, “You two have quite the mouths. Why not put your fists where your mouth is. Or, oh no, you two are so horribly weak that you can’t fight your own battles. Even if it is a two-on-one scenario.” Raja Kint motions toward the open area of the floor.

“Haha, it would be interesting to see a battle accompanied by some good food,” says a boisterous man.

“It would certainly be a spectacle,” says another.

Sky says, “As you can see emperor everyone is interested in such a battle.”

Emperor Bisuke smiles and turns to his daughter. “Your call Adonia.” Everyone turns toward the young girl. She sees many different emotions displayed and looks into Raja Kint’s eyes.

Raja Kint smiles as he uncrosses his legs.

“I agree with seniors. A meal accompanied by battle is always fun,” Adonia Bisuke says.

“Haha, the princess is truly gracious to us old folks at such a young age.” Laughs the boisterous man.

An older woman asks, “Can this place take the stress from such a battle?”

Another man says, “Even if it can’t we can use our ki to reinforce everything. This battle shouldn’t go into limbo realm territory.”

A female worker on the side says, “This place is built to withstand battles from earth devourers. These three shouldn’t be a problem.”

Raja Kint walks to the empty space with the other two.

Josho Fenix says, “If you don’t win then we might have to consider your victory a fluke.”

“You got this win easy. Otherwise, we can’t be seen talking anymore,” says Calanthe Cardinal.

“You have quite the tough crowd today,” says Adonia Bisuke.

Raja Kint stops in place and looks over at the two before him.

The boy says, “You might’ve won a competition between peasants. But we’re from powerful families within Bisuke City itself. We’re another grade above you bumpkins.”

The girl mockingly adds, “If you would’ve noticed earlier. Both of us are at the ninth stage idiot. Do you really think you have a shot?”

Raja Kint replies, “You continue to talk instead of fight? This clearly won’t take too long.” He takes a step forward.

The two immediately activate techniques. The boy activates the full-body technique of a blue ape. Light electricity running across his full body technique. The girl activates a full-body technique of a white cheetah. With a cold fog seeming to envelop her full body technique.

The boy mockingly says, “You thought we would be like the others but our techniques are superior. As you can see even if we can’t use law. We can tap into the innate law these animals wield.”

The boy and girl shoot forth at blinding speeds of white and blue lines. Raja Kint smiles as he smoothly moves in between both of their attacks. The two show shocked expressions at how Raja Kint could keep up with their speed.

Raja Kint doesn’t take the opening to attack. Instead letting them past him. He begins searching around. “Wow you guys truly are fast. I don’t even see you.” He looks toward them. “Oh, there are you. That truly was scary.”

Their faces sink to Raja Kint’s mocking taunts. The two don’t speak as they rush forward again. Raja Kint sprints forward as well and clashes attacks with them both. “Bang!” The two are sent backward in surprise. Raja Kint standing in place. Individually they’re strong enough to compete with the top four. The two rush forward again. The boy jumping side to side as the girl speeds around wide playing to his blind spots.

“Finally taking this serious. Good.” Raja Kint begins lightly tapping his feet. The boy has stronger blunt attacks while the girl seems to go for slashing. I’ll need to be careful. The boy arrives and sends a punch forward. Raja Kint responds when he feels a presence behind him. He changes his fist into an open palm. Grabbing the boy’s wrist and kicking his back left leg toward the girl. “Ugh!” The girl is sent back as a punch lands on Raja Kint’s face. He takes the punch, using his hold. Yanks the boy up and down into a knee to the chest. The boy struggles to breathe and Raja Kint goes for the girl. The girl uses her speed to the maximum.

“This little bit of lightning and cold don’t have the impact you were hoping for. Next to me you may as well be as cold as a popsicle.” Raja Kint competes in speed and catches the girl. Her face warps into surprise as Raja Kint grabs her hair and lands a kick against her back. The girl coughs from the impact. The boy rushing over.

“Lightning Ape Full Body Technique: Striking Fist!”

The boy’s right fist seems to resemble a lightning bolt as it shoots forward. Raja Kint smiles as he tosses the girl and sends his own punch.

“Boom!” The boy is blown backward as blood flies through the air. Raja Kint turns to see the girl had taken the moment to sneak attack him. To her surprise the clash was instantly decided. Foiling her sneak attack. Raja Kint punches at her slashing attack. Causing her to stumble backward. Raja Kint chops her neck sending her into a coughing fit.

“Is this all?”
