Chapter 60 – Lesson

Rezald: T-Tania wh-what did you do!?

Tania: I made you into master’s familiar.

Tania said as she carries the unconscious Altan and gives him to Terul, as she instructed Terul to put him into his bed inside the mansion. Tania then faces the dumbfounded Rezald covered in cold sweat.

Rezald: I know that! What I want to know is why?

Tania: It’s because it’s a waste…

Rezald: A… waste?

Rezald said with a confused tone as Tania then stated.

Tania: In our race we can pick only one individual to be an origin’s familiar and will gain immortality at least until the origin dies but the origin can free the familiar before it happens, so the familiar can still retain his or her life as well as his or her immortality. What I am saying is that we can have only one living familiar and until that familiar dies we cannot have another one, it is a waste is because that I’d rather not use it for meat shields or disposables like other dracrans. Of course there are only a few of them who do so as we are a prideful race. I’d rather give this chance to someone irreplaceable. To master, uncle Rezald is like a part of the family now as well as the only non-immortal. I am afraid to let mas… brother feel the pain of losing a love one. I know it’s selfish but I wish him eternal happiness.

Rezald: Tania…

Rezald stared at Tania teary eyed, touched by what she said as he suddenly realizes and panics…

Rezald: So I will look like a 16 year old all my life…

Tania: Not to worry, your aging will stop once you are near your adult stage so for now your growth will remain normal.

Rezald, hearing Tania’s words sighed in relief as he smiles wryly as he had no choice but to accept it. He was also somewhat thankful as his beloved, Sirian is also an immortal. If he had the choice to spend everyday for the rest of his life with her then he will gladly take it. He loved her to the point where he would follow her through eternal suffering if that was the only way to be with her. He also planned to return to the clan one day to grant what his father wanted for him. Other than that he wants to see the world with Nelus and the others with Sirian by his side, which is his dream.

Tania: A familiar will do whatever the master will tell them to do.

Rezald: I see… then I will do just that.

Tania: I turned off that function.

Rezald: Wh-why?

Rezald said while being dumbfounded for a second time.

Tania: I trust you will protect him even if I or master didn’t say anything right?

Tania said with a slight smile on her face as it quickly returns to her expressionless state. Rezald grinned as he nodded admitting his intention as he said…

Rezald: I will not protect just Altan, I will protect you and everyone important to me.

Tania: I see. Then I will thank you in advance.

Nelus quietly watched all of this happen with a smile as he already had a clue at what Tania was going to do. He too, wished Rezald to find his happiness as it seems Nelus sense a deep scar within him. Also for Nelus, 100 years or less, which is a common human life span, passes by in a flash as a God’s sense of time is much broader. He would rather have a friend live longer and watch over them. Still, immortality doesn’t mean that he is now immune to death; he too will protect them with all of his might.

On the next day, Nelus headed to Lux Academy. As he entered all of them greeted him as well as the four soldiers with pale faces… Olpa then talk to the three…

Olpa: I see why this class is so strong… what will be our lesson today?

Kana: I-I-I’m scared…

Fios: Kuh… I hate to admit it but that “lecture” was indeed scary as everyone says.

Rido: Be quiet class is starting.

Nelus: You four.

Soldiers-in-unison: Eeeepp!!

Olpa: I-I am sorry for being disrespectful!

Kana: W-w’ll be quiet!!

Fios: A-ah…

Rido: Hahh…

Nelus: Let’s see your aptitudes. Come here in front, the four of you.

Olpa: Alright, the three of you lets go.

Fios: Aptitudes?

Nelus: It is your magic capability. I am trying to see if you are able to use magic than what you are initially capable of.

Fios: Ooohhh!!

Nelus: Your aptitude is… Light normal, Fire high.

Fios: Eh!? My fire aptitude is stronger than my light aptitude?

Olpa: My turn! Olpa said excitedly.

Nelus: Aptitude, Light high, wind normal.

Olpa: Only normal? Well at least I know I can use wind magic which matches me quite well.

Rido: Kana you go first.

Kana: Ah! Uhm… alright.

Nelus: Aptitude, Light low, Vegetation high… a earth variant hmm… so you can use bio magic using plants.

Kana: Eh? I-I see…

Rido: Finally, me.

Nelus: Aptitude, Light normal, lightning normal, water normal.

Rido: I got three hmm…

Olpa then had a look of envy at the three, still she was happy to know she can use wind magic. She is completely excited to learn some as well as frightened to experience “that” again. Nelus then said…

Nelus: All of you practice the magic written on the paper I left on your tables. As for you four I will train you personally.

Hearing this, the four couldn’t help but tremble as the color on their faces vanished. Meril then approach them.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Meril: Don’t worry, its just a normal lesson. We only do the “strict lecture” once a month.

The four then sighed in relief as they follow Nelus out of the room.

Welg: You didn’t tell them about Sir Nelus’ lesson?

Meril: Ah! I forgot!

Meril frantically ran towards the door to see tell the four but it was too late… they were already too far to catch up.

Welg: Don’t worry about them. As four us, lets head to the magic training room.

Meril: Alright…

As the students return to the classroom in the afternoon they noticed four lifeless figures sitting on their chairs… they had their mana fully spent by using magic. At first they were very excited but as time passes they felt more sluggish as well as tired because Nelus lessons was actually… spending all of their mana to exhaust their mana capacity and increase it ever so slightly while teaching them new magic. They had to use magic and refill mana, use magic and refill mana over and over again which also spent their mental fortitude to an all time low. Meril then approaches them and said…

Meril: Uhm… are you alright?

Olpa: Huh… oh Meril. I’m glad your back… you all have my utmost respect… to do this all the time…

Olpa said with deep admiration while looking over them.

Rios: I… will become strong…

Kana: I-I want to sleep…

Rido: You guys…

Olpa: What is it Rido?

Rido: Nothing…

Even Rido was too tired to lecture them like usual.

Nelus: I saw the results at the magic training grounds. I see Kalba still doesn’t have enough mana to properly train the next stage so for tomorrow I will personally train you.

Kalba: Yes sir Nelus. (N-noooo!!! Why! Kuh… I need an excuse… no... if I get more absences then I might fail and if I do… summer class… by Sir Nelus… uuuuu… oh God…)

Kalba said with calm composure. Inside him he screamed his agony full of passion as he cried inwardly. Seeing his composure, the four soldiers couldn’t help but look at him with admiration as well as motivating them to do their best. They were inwardly regretting to have bullied him before as well as remembering his act of sacrifice for Mita and Jawa furthering their respect for him.

Rios: Kuuhh!! What a man!

Olpa: I’m quite impressed…

Kana: Do your best!

Rido: I to shall learn from your example.

They said suddenly towards the shocked Kalba…

Kalba: Umm… okay?

As class finishes they were all dismissed as Raldine appeared as she opened the classroom door.

Raldine: Nelus the principal is calling you.

Nelus: I’ll come straight away.

Raldine: Ah! I’ll come with you.

Nelus: Alright.

As they headed towards the principal’s office side-by-side, Raldine kept fidgeting as she opens her mouth, trying to say something but stops before doing so this went on until they reached the principal’s office. Raldine, not noticing that they were already in front of the office suddenly said…

Raldine: U-uhm Nelus!

Nelus: We’re here.

Raldine: Eh?

Raldine said with a slightly sad expression as she then said goodbye to Nelus. As she turned around and took a step Nelus then said…

Nelus: Raldine, see you tomorrow let’s have a talk sometimes.

Raldine was shocked as her face reddens; a smile appeared on her face as she walks away. What she wanted to say to Nelus was… “Can I see you tomorrow?” wanting to spend even a little amount of time with Nelus. She wanted to ask because she knew that both of them have been quite busy recently it was because…

Andros: Oh! Nelus, good to see that your classes have been a success!

Nelus: I just thought them what they needed to be thought.

Andros: Hahahaha!! Wonderful! Also, I called you because of the competition hosted by Lux Academy as well as Nox academy. Do you remember why I hired you as a teacher?

Nelus: Yes.

Nelus then remembered what Ciall told him before… it was to teach his students magic other than light magic to fool Nox academy into thinking that they are now capable of magic other than light magic and make them confused. Also, to let my students use other elemental spells only when they are cornered to make Nox academy thought that we were hiding this as our trump card. A war is coming and we don’t know when but one thing we do know is that Nox academy will do whatever it takes to start it. It seems this time they are very confident and we don’t know why.

Andros: For the competition, two of your students will participate. I had picked Cheil as usual because she has been one of the top contenders on every competitions and Meril as she had made the biggest impact while fighting those soldiers. If I pick my son then they will only think that I thought him as I am one of the few beings of divinity who can use his other aptitude. As for Terul I am afraid that her parents will hate me even further as they do now. The other three will be from the other classes of my choice, one is from Rezald’s class.

Nelus: I see, and when is this competition?

Andros: Next week. Please tell the two about it and if they refuse then I will find another one from your class as this competition is quite crucial to our plan.

Nelus: Alright. Then I will take my leave.

Andros: I’m counting on you and thanks!
