Chapter 30 – Another Year in Uire

Another year has passed by and I was quite getting used to living here in the floating city which I learned later was called Uire. Right now Altan is at level 24 and he is easily learning about some basic things. I started to teach him fire magic, starting with a simple as Jisa scolded me. She told me to start with an E ranked fire spell first as Altan was getting confused. I then told her that I learned S class magic when I was young and somehow she only showed an expression of disbelief.

Altan: Papa! Papa! Look at this! It not big boom magic other day but…

On Altan’s hand was a simple . The simplest fire spell, I caressed his head and smiled. He grinned with an expression of satisfaction as he ran away trying to show everyone his magic. They all smiled at the cute child holding a small flame. They all were getting used to Altan. Like sometimes at the store that sells fruit, the owner gives some to Altan which in return made him very happy.

Days passed by quietly… except for the constant challenges of Zala… she really is too stubborn… I sighed, expecting another challenge later. In my free time I headed to my usual reading area, which is the palace garden. As I started to read I felt that someone was watching… it was Lina.

Lina: Uncle, what you read?

Nelus: Comparison of Culture between Different Beings of Divinity.

Lina: U-uhm…

Nelus: How beings like angels and others live.

Lina: Like me?

Nelus: Like you.

Lina smiled as she ran towards me. She sat on my lap as she looks at the book curiously. On her face was a clueless expression while trying hard to understand what was written. I sighed as I smiled wryly. I then decided to read the whole thing later while trying to find pages with pictures on it. As something has caught her attention, she asks me about it.

Lina: Uncle? Why that angel wear that?

Nelus: That is a wedding garment used by angels.

Lina: Wed-ding? It’s pretty.

Nelus: A wedding is a ritual for two lovers to stay together forever. Another term is to marry.

Lina: Marry? Like what big sis Zala always shouts when calling uncle?

Nelus: Yes… ?

Lina: Uwaah!

Suddenly a large explosion was heard. As we look towards the direction to where it came from… it was Zala. Her fist was inside the stone pillar as she was wearing a flustered expression.

Lina: Big sis is scary…

Lina grabs my robe as she looked at Zala with teary eyes. As Zala saw Lina’s reaction she tried to get closer with a frantic expression. Lina turns around with her face buried to my chest trying to look away from her as she trembles in fear. Seeing that, Zala suddenly looks at me and glared.

Zala: Neluusss!! I won’t lose to you!

Nelus: ?

Zala: We’ll see who’ll get my little sisters’ affection in the end!

Nelus: …

Zala: As expected of my rival! Later, I challenge you to a duel!

I made a weary expression as it was the same as always… no her challenges are more frequent than usual… it started to increase ever since she heard Lina’s first word… which is Nel… Even her father was disheartened by that… well it can’t be helped… her father was always working after all… meeting after meeting. I remembered when Lina saw her father after a while… when Ciall tried to hug her. Lina hid behind me. Ciall just snapped as he knelt to the ground sobbing. What made me surprised is that afterwards the king was more determined than ever to get Lina’s attention… like father, like daughter I guess…

Lina: I want marry uncle!

Nelus: …

Ciall: Nelus!!!! Look at what you have done! It should be… “I want to marry papa”! Right Zala?

Nelus: …

Zala: Why are you asking me that!?

Ciall: Uuuu…

Zala just walks away, leaving the teary eyed Ciall.

Ciall: Why do my daughters grow up so fast… I remember when Zala and Runice fighting to get my attention saying that they wanted to marry me…

Runice: Father!

As Runice, was actually near our location. She heard our conversation and was embarrassed as she quickly walks away.

Ciall: Runice, wait!

Nelus: Lets leave…

Lina: Why?

Nelus: I read in one of the book I have that it is quite rude to watch an old man cry.

Lina: Okay…

Ciall: I’m not old and I’m not crying! Uuu… H-hey come back here.

Yeuhl: What are you doing Ciall?

Ciall: Ah Yeuhl… I was just… uhm…

Yeuhl: Why are your eyes red?

Ciall: U-uhm I need to wash my eyes… ahh it hurts… there seems to be dust in my eyes…

As Ciall turns around and leaves. Yeuhl giggled.

Yeuhl: He really is quite different when it comes to family.

Nelus: Hmm?

Yeuhl: You see… Ciall since the time I met him… he was always too serious… always trying his best at things… he never smiled nor laughed. He was hailed as one of the greatest heroes in the angel race. But when Zala was born, I saw something else for the first time… his soft side and every time I saw it, it just makes me love him more.

Nelus: I see.

Yeuhl: One day if you ever get yourself a family I think it might change you too…

Nelus: …

Yeuhl smile gently as she looks at Lina and caressed her head.

Yeuhl: We don’t know much about you but if our daughter trusts you this much then I can also trust you. If ever there is a time that Ciall and I are not there for her please support her and the others while you’re at it. The future is unpredictable and someday there might be something that happens to us and I am afraid that there will be no one that they can rely on. I know that you are strong as sometimes Ciall ad I watch your duels with Zala so we know that you are capable.

I was speechless, nevertheless I nod while Lina was looking at us as she tilts her head in confusion.

On the next day I saw Lina and Altan playing with Frei watching over them, as I approached them… Frei looks at me with a perplexed expression… I ask why he was making such an expression but he just remained silent as he pointed at the two. I tried to observe what might be the problem…

Lina: Ooohh! Altan use magic!

Altan: Yes! Papa always teach me!

Lina: Uuu… I want learn magic too…

Altan: I teach you.

Lina: No! I want to learn from uncle.

Altan: Papa is good teacher!

Lina: Yes! He always read story to me!

Altan: Me too!

Lina: Ehehe.

Altan: So Lin is sure that marry papa one day?

Lina: Yes! Then Alt will call me mama!

Altan: Yay! Lin mama!

Lina: No call me mama yet!

Altan: Why not?

Lina: I not married uncle yet!

Altan: Ooohh! Then I call you Lin for now.

Nelus: …

Frei: …

Frei and I were just speechless at their conversation… it seems that they had formed quite a peculiar relationship so it seems… I sighed and smiled wryly as it is expected as they were quite young. One day, I think Lina will forget this as mostly everyone forgets most of their childhood once they grow up as I had read. It is different for us Gods of course, our memory last for an extremely long time. As they both saw me, they smiled innocently and continued to play. Looking at them, I remembered that I wanted to try something…

Nelus: I’ll show you something pretty. Do you want to see?

Altan: Yes!

Lina: Yes uncle!

I then invited everyone else to join us tonight. Everyone was quite confused as what was happening. I walked in front of them and told them that I will use a kind of magic that they never have seen before. Everyone was suddenly excited at what I am going to do. I lifted my arm with my palm pointed towards the sky as a ball of fire was formed. It was a C class spell, except a little stronger. I threw it to the sky as it exploded into different colors each time as small sparks rained above us. It was my version of fireworks like that of the common world. I just change the compounds and variations to shift the light it reflects so that the colors would also seem to change.

Lina: Wow!

Altan: Pretty!

Jisa: Wonderful!

Zala: I can’t let Nelus show off like this!

Zala then used a simple D rank light spell .

An array of different colored lights accompanied my display making it more beautiful than before. Everyone cheered and awed at the scene.

Ciall: As expected of my daughter.

Runice: It is quite nice! Why don’t we do this again sometimes?  

Yeuhl: Great idea.

Frei: I didn’t know magic can also be used like this… can it be used in ice magic also?

Nelus: I am afraid not… ice magic has a different concept than fire magic and light magic.

Frei: I see… Lord Nelus… if ever Fala and I will have… you know… a child… can you also show this magic again one day?

Nelus: I don’t mind.

Fala then became flustered hearing Frei as she tried her best to hide her beet red face.  

As my display had finished, we all head on back to each of our places…
