Chapter 32 – Darklight Ball

As Ciall suddenly stops, we are inside one of the palace rooms as three angels other than us are inside the room.

Nelus: Who are they?

Ciall: They made my daughters’ dresses and I also asked them to make clothes that suit you. After all you will be in the guise of our benefactor.

Nelus: Benefactor?

Ciall: Well it is half true as you have taken care of Lina most of the time while promising to protect my daughters so… in a way you already are our benefactor.

Nelus: What about Frei, Fala and Jisa?

Ciall: Jisa will surely attend. As for your two companions, they already picked what they will wear days ago. It seems that Fala urged Frei to participate.

Nelus: Sounds like her.

As the angels took measurement of my body, they packed up their things. Though I can somehow feel that they were touching some unnecessary places…  

Female Angel#2: Thank you Lord Nelus.

Nelus: Why are you thanking me?

Female Angel#1: N-no reason!

Nelus: Why are all of your faces red?

Female Angel#3: Ah-ahaaha we might have caught an illness… we must be going now!

Nelus: ?

Ciall smiled mischievously looking at the clueless Nelus.

Ciall: Oho? Aren’t you the popular one.

As I head back Ciall suddenly stops me.

Ciall: Why don’t you and your companions eat with us tonight?

Nelus: Alright.

As I head back to the mansion, Jisa walks up to me and asks where have I been and that Altan misses me with a frantic expression. I told her I was at the palace as Ciall was getting me clothes to wear at the ball. Jisa looked at me with sparkling eyes as excitement spread. I also told her that Ciall invited all of us to dinner. Hearing that, she hurriedly went upstairs. As she came back she wore a more luxurious looking dress. I called Frei ad Fala about the invitation and they also accepted. I then headed to Altan’s room to get him as I saw him sleeping.

Nelus: Altan, lets go.

Altan: Ah… huh? Papa?

Nelus: Ciall invited us to dinner.

Altan: Ah? We go eat?

Nelus: Yes.

As we all headed to the palace, one of their angel maids guided us towards the dining room. In there, there was a large rectangular table enough for a large group of people. As we enter. Lina waves towards us as Zala finds it hard to look towards our direction. I guess she isn’t use to eating with us. Runice and Yeuhl were just smiling seemingly unaffected.

Ciall: Welcome! Come, sit down.

Nelus: Thank you.

In front of us were a sets of different kinds of luxurious food on golden plates. As Altan was looking at it with great hunger, I looked at Ciall as he smiles wryly and signaled all of us to eat. A larger portion of food was passed on to me by Jisa.

Jisa: Nelus, come on… eat! Enjoy yourself!

Frei: Uhm… I think that amount it is too much for Lord Nelus…

Jisa: It is because he rarely eats! Food is a source of energy! Even if us immortals can’t die of hunger we would still be considerably weakened!

I remained silent as I know what she was saying is the truth, food is a universal source of energy although they depend their lifelines on divinity, using it for moving and such that uses simple energy is such a waste. Seeing as I decided to eat the small mountain, Frei didn’t know how to react so he became speechless. I just sighed as I then decided to eat the tower of food in front of me bit by bit.

Ciall: How about you tell us some of your adventures?

Runice: How did you meet Frei, Fala and Altan?

Jisa: Oh! Even I didn’t know the story… come on! I’m getting excited.

Frei: I’ll tell you instead!

Frei shouted proudly as Fala giggles beside him.

Frei: Lord Nelus met us inside a certain mountain.

Runice: Inside a mountain? You two are beastmen right? Why are you two inside a mountain, shouldn't you two be in forests and such?

Frei: Yes… well you see Fala was incredibly ill because she was poisoned by a man with snake eyes… as I was getting desperate the red spirit appeared in front of us to help heal Fala.

All of them had wide eyes as if they were gonna pop out and shouted...

Ciall and the others-in-unison: The red spirit!!??

Zala: You mean THAT legendary red spirit?

Frei: Yes… even I was surprised. I thought that there was finally hope until... she told me that the poison was incurable and that we can only slow it down.

Fala then look downcast as her ears droop down thinking that because of her Frei had to go through such suffering so she lean closer to him and hugged his arm.

Yeuhl: Then what happened?

Yeuhl clenches Ciall’s hand as if feeling the same dread to lose the one you love in front of you. If she was in their position she would definitely panic and fall to despair.

Frei: The red spirit told us that she would help us slow down the poison as long as she can and that we should spend Fala’s last days together… then one day…

Frei paused to build up the moment as Zala shouted in anticipation...

Zala: Come on tell us!

Frei: When Fala was nearing her end we heard a commotion outside… it seems that our golem friends were fighting someone… and that was Lord Nelus… when the Red Spirit found out that he was not particularly a threat she let them in. What surprised us is that what Lord Nelus had done after seeing Fala’s condition… he absorbed the poison.

Ciall: What!? If the poison was that potent why did he absorb it?

Ciall said as he then look towards Nelus as he was crazy as Nelus then shrugged and said...

Nelus: I am highly resistant to poison.

Zala: Are you crazy!? What if something happened to you!

Seeing Zala's reaction, Frei couldn't hold in his smile as she kind of reminds him of Reila.

Frei: That’s the same exact reaction Reila made.

Zala: Who’s Reila?

Zala asked as she glares at me thinking there was something going on as to connecting their reaction she doesn't seem to be just a simple stranger that was just with them.

Frei: She was one of our companions from before, an elf woman. She punched Lord Nelus again and again for doing that and then hugged him.

Zala: Is she Nelus’…

Frei: I don't think so?...

Hearing that, Zala’s mood brightened up. As for me, I didn’t listen much about the story as I was still conquering this food tower in front of me.

Runice: How about Altan?

Frei: That part will be a longer one…

Frei then told them about how we then directly met the man with the snake eyes, Atir and our battle. How we somehow defeated him as I almost went overboard and how both me and Atir were actually being controlled by a mysterious book that I made Frei destroy… at least in his perspective. Finally, how we found a child that came from the void, Altan which was trapped there for an uncountable amount of time. Everyone has mixed feelings about the story, some of them were tearing up as Lina was already crying.

Lina: Poor Alt…

Altan: It okay! Because now papa here with me!

Jisa: Little Altan…

Ciall: Okay… enough of that… I didn’t know it would be such a tragic tale… say Nelus…

Ciall looks at me and was surprised. I was completely unaffected by Frei’s story. I then took the final bite from the once, food tower. I closed my eyes as I made a triumphant nod. As I opened my eyes, they all looked at me with wry smiles.

Nelus: ?

Ciall: Aha… nothing…

As the heavy atmosphere lifts up, we continued telling stories, lighthearted ones. They all laughed, smiled and were having fun. Afterwards we all head on back to the mansion. The day after it was the usual and were getting ready for the ball on the next day. It seems that Frei will wear a blue formal looking wear with a couple of tiger stripes on the waist area with a white undershirt made from a unique kind of leather as Fala will be wearing a slim blue dress with a slight frilly outline with a cut on her skirt exposing her right long legs. Jisa will be wearing grey exquisite dress with encrusted jewels and a simple design which really fits her. They all asked what I was going to wear but even I didn’t know as Ciall told me it will be a surprise.

As the day of the ball came it was already nighttime and different kinds of beings of divinity came.

Altan: Where is papa?

Frei: He he said that will enter with the king.

Jisa: I’m getting excited! I bet Nelus will look dashing…

Jisa said with a slight blush with expectations overflowing. As the ball continued everyone was talking with one another. Some of them were trying to make ties for political means. Suddenly, they heard a large flapping sound. They looked towards the direction it came from and gasped… it was the luminants, They were beings with a slight similarity with elves especially with the ears but the obvious difference is that they had silver, scaly wings like that of a bat. Most of them had a pair of wings as the one on the middle had eight wings as for the other three around him had four while the one besides him had six.

As they were talking about them, the princes waved as some of them females fainted. As for the princess… she had a cold aura around her which made her hard to approach but it didn’t stop some of them…

Male Random Divine Being: Hello, princess Cheil… you look good in that black dress. It fits your long and beautiful black hair and crimson eyes…

As the group of males surrounded her she just ignored them and pushed some away as she walked by. They tried to grab the princess but felt the piercing gaze of the king and the princes so they stopped and went away.

Luminant Prince#2: How dare those bastards…

Luminant Prince#1: Stop it Dae you are the second prince… don’t make a scene… father is watching. Look at Roy, he is younger than you yet he is more mature.

Dae: Hmph, elder brother Chyde… I am just…

Suddenly, a group of maids aligned in front of the large stairway as a group slowly descends from it.

Chyde: The Angel king Ciall!

Jisa: !!!

As the king and queen and the two princesses, Runice and Lina descends from the stairway, besides them was Nelus wearing a white attire with a lustrous black outline with a slightly cold yet light and approachable demeanor, everyone had forgotten about the princes as they gaze towards Nelus. Ciall noticed that everyone was looking so he greeted them all. Jisa was especially affected as she suddenly stops talking with those around her as she gazes at the stunning Nelus.

Ciall: Welcome everyone. Please enjoy yourselves at our darklight ball.

Halvard: Well if it isn’t Ciall and who might this strapping lad be? Also… is this the princess Lina that I heard about?

Halvard had a slight grin despite having a dark expression just a moment ago while looking at Lina as she hid behind Nelus.

Ciall: Your majesty, Halvard… this here Nelus, our benefactor.

Nelus: Greetings. (God’s Eyes)

Roy: Father!...

As Roy tried to approach his father he stops as his father glares at him. He bit his lip and ran away.

Lina: No! I will marry uncle one day!

Halvard: Really? Ciall?

Ciall: Umm…

As they were talking Nelus suddenly twitched as he looks towards the left. Halvard and Ciall was startled at my sudden actions.

Nelus: Frei, look after them for me.

Frei: Understood.

Frei, noticing my reaction, quickly grasped that something is happening. I ran towards the direction were I felt a spell was used as I know she was in that direction… as I reached the location what I saw was a luminant with bloodshot eyes, carrying someone…

Zala: Ne… lus…

Dae: Looks like I was seen… oh it is you…

Nelus: …
