Chapter 36 – Guardian Beast

Using my spatial magic, I flew across Niilos Wasteland to avoid confrontations with magical beasts as it would waste too much time. Sometimes we encounter flying magical beasts but even they can’t keep up with my speed. Behind me was Zala, flying, trying to keep up with me.

Zala: Neluuusss!! Fly slower!

Nelus: But with this speed we can easily get to the Wartis Village faster.

Zala: I already cast multiple times now, just to keep up!

Nelus: Zala, do you want to rest?

Zala: Yes!!! I’ve been trying to tell you the whole time!

I suddenly stop midair while Zala tried to stop herself and crashes into me.

Nelus: Are you alright?

Zala: Hah… hah… my mana is hah… completely exhausted…

Nelus: I see… then let us camp out here for the night.

Zala: Seriously… how much mana do you have!?

Nelus: A lot.

Zala: Hahh… even I have a larger mana capacity compared to other angels but yours is just too monstrous.

Nelus: …

Calice: (Fufufu… I think the right term to used is “Godly”.)

Nelus: …

I then opened my spatial storage and took out a bunch of wood and leather to make a tent and some food for Zala. I then used to ward of the Magical Beast. As I ready the food and cook it using the fire, Zala sits beside me.

Zala: What do you think is happening… that monster from before… and also the luminants…

Nelus: I don’t know… but I want to.

Zala: I see… also I never did asked… where are you headed?

Nelus: To a cave near here.

Zala: A cave? Why are you going there?

Nelus: To find Nawons and get their materials.

Zala: For what?

Nelus: For mind protection accessories. It seems that all of the others besides us two have their minds wiped or altered.

Zala: What!? So that is why no one believed me... If so then why weren’t we affected?

Calice: (Because of me.)

Zala: (You again!)

Zala said while glaring.

Calice: (You’re not happy to see me? Even though I helped you?)

Zala: (Thank you…)

Calice: (Your, welcome!)

The sun sets and the moon was rising, nighttime came as both me and Zala were gazing at the stars.

Zala: Say Nelus… do you have a family?

Nelus: I don’t.

Zala: I see… did you know that my father isn’t normally like that?

Nelus: Like what?

Zala: To fear someone… he usually tackles the problems head on but one day he changed… he became a coward and so I decided to be strong so I trained everyday pursuing strength.

Nelus: Maybe he changed because before he had no one he wanted to lose. Right now there are many that are important to him… his wife, Lina, Runice and you.

Zala: If you had someone important to you, will you fear for their safety also?

Nelus: Of course, and there are already many people that are important to me.

Zala: Does… that include… me?

Nelus: Of course you are a friend after…

Zala: S-stupid! I’m going to sleep!... goodnight…

Hearing Nelus, she became completely flustered hearing the first two words while ignoring the next ones. She stood up abruptly and walk away towards the tent.

Nelus: ?

Calice: (You know you’re important to me too Lord Nelus.)

Nelus: (Your important to me also Calice.)

Calice: (Ahaha… should I be impressed that you could say that with a straight face…?)

Nelus: (?)

Calice: (I’m to blame for that one…)

Calice said as her face became beet red then sighed. She was trying to joke about it but it ended up backfiring. Even if she knows what Nelus meant, hearing that from him was quite embarrassing. After a while, Nelus then decided to head back to his tent when suddenly… a crack appeared from the barrier. As the barrier completely shatters, a beast appeared. It was behind Zala’s tent so it obstructed my view. I can’t seem to sense its presence. It seems to have a particular skill to use the night to hide itself.

I quickly rushed inside the tent to get Zala and carried her into my arms. I then swiftly jump out of the tent as I tear a hole through it before the beast smashes its claws towards the tent. I tried to wake up Zala as her eyes opened. She couldn’t process what was happening. She was in a princess carry by Nelus under the moonlight. Her face becomes hot as she tries to reach towards Nelus’ face but saw his dashingly serious face. Her heart fluttered but completely understood that something was happening so instead she tried to assess the situation. Nelus, then used God’s eyes at the bear like creature.

Nelus: I see… so that’s why it managed to break through the barrier…

Zala then jumps off from Nelus’ arms with a regrettable expression and sighed as she took out a metalia sword. As for me, I equiped Kaikus, as I was going to finish of the Volcaria…

Zala: Nelus!!

Zala shouted and pointed towards something… there were three cubs that were behind her. I recalled Kaikus then used instead as it was resistant to fire.

Nelus: Zala, Take the cubs away for now… they might get caught up in our battle. I’ll try to hold this Volcaria  out while you make sure their safe.

At first I thought to escape when I noticed something was weird… this Volcaria didn’t have a dark element so how did it manage to hide its presence? While I was thinking, the bear attacked, it stands up and slashes its two claws at me. I guarded with my arms as static flowed through its arms. The Volcaria growled in pain as the cubs kept trying to escape Zala’s grasp.

While the cubs were struggling free, one managed to escape and were headed towards its mother. As it reaches her, something unexpected happened. The mother Volcaria attacked the cub. Tears seemed to flow from its eyes as its claws nearly reaches the cub. I grabbed the cub with my hand that is not covered with lightning.  

Nelus: I’ll save her don’t worry.

Hearing that somehow made the cub calm. I went to Zala and gave her the cub. When the bear attacked again, I punched it with my right. Her claw and my fist collided as an array of fire and lightning exploded. While I was pushing back the bear, I finally sensed another presence. I looked back towards Zala and saw a dark figure approaching them. Immediately, I attacked I used "Flash Assault" and managed to get there in time as I block it.

I noticed that whenever this dark figure moves the bear stops… so it might be controlled by this thing. I cast Restore at the bear as it faints. The thing roared as I used God’s eyes to identify it.

Another high ranked magical beast… for years, I have been hunting with Frei in Niilos wasteland and so far I haven’t encounter any beasts like these two… where did they came from? This Dolmace looks like a horse made of smoke. It seemed like it was injured… it looked like burns… so that means that the bear has fought him before… though its only a speculation.

I used , large amounts of mana were converted on my palms… I decided to add a little bit more of mana. The sphere made of fire condenses. I then threw it to th ground as a massive explosion occurred.As the explosion kept expanding I cast around the bear and Zala. As the explosion subsided it seems like the horse was only a little hurt.

Noticing that I am someone beyond its capabilities of fighting, It headed towards Zala. As it gallops towards Zala, I tried to obstruct it path with a punch but suddenly it vanished and reappeared behind me. I used Spatial Magic to teleport in front of it again while glaring. It neighed as it was startled. It shot out three spikes made of smoke towards Zala. Zala then tried to cover the cubs with her body.

As I was to reach the spikes, the bear suddenly obstructed it as a large amount of volcanic crimson flames arose from its body. It was unaffected by the spike. I looked back at the horse, I started to emanate extreme killing intent as it stagger while its movement was severely slowed down. I then decided to use "Divine Combat Style: Stance 15, Arclight Pulse".

My eyes suddenly glow with a sliver like aura. Divinity started to flow out of my body, covering it. I then grabbed its neck as I slowly tighten my grip. As a crunching noise was heard it tried to struggle free. Suddenly, the smoke around it vanishes while it pushed me away. It seems like its form changed. In front of me was a thin and muscular man wearing black attire. He had black hair, black eyes, and white skin.  On his face was an expression of anger and disbelief.

???: Stop butting in! This is none of your business!!!

I used God’s Eyes again.

As Dosil headed towards Zala and the cubs again, someone else blocked him. It was a plump and voluptuous, beautiful woman with red eyes and red hair. On her top, only her chest was covered in clothing made of crimson flames. Other than that she was wearing a skirt made from the same material as her top. I used God’s Eyes.

Crisna then smashes her fist covered in flames into Dosil’s face. The whole ground trembles as even Zala lost her footing and sat down due to the magnitude of the shaking. When her fist made contact with Dosils face, a crunching noise was heard then a shattering sound. Blood gushed out from his face like a fountain as Zala stared at the scene with an extremely pale face. Dosil’s legs started to tremble. As he falls down losing his strength, Crisna punched his stomach as a shattering noise was heard. Crisna was laughing as Zala was close to fainting.

Zala: Eeeepp!!!

Crisna: You dare challenge me for marriage and attack my precious cubs just because you were losing!!!???

Dosil: I-I-I-I am shorr…

Another massive impact was heard as she punches his side and grabs his arm and threw him into the ground. From here I can feel massive killing intent as a huge crater was formed. I can feel that her strength was at least at X rank…

Crisna: Then you have the guts and used that attack to control me!!??

Crisna then grabs her hand forming a hammering stance as Dosil’s face went completely pale. She then smashes it towards Dosil’s chest as a few crunching noise was heard. It seems like a few of his ribs were broken. Even I was starting to pity him…

Crisna: Finally, because of you others have seen our humanoid form!!!

Crisna then stood up as she lifts up her foot towards the sky as a large flame covered it with the size of a hill. Dosil was sweating buckets as Crisna then smashes her foot down. Feeling danger, I used on Zala and myself. All I can see is… crimson. Like the world around me was covered in flames. As it dissipates I can see all around me that the effect was far worse than my that had gone out of control… as expected of a pure fire element user.

Crisna: Come back here!!!

Dosil: M-monster!!!

Crisna: Who are you calling monster!? Are you only good at escaping you bastard!

Dosil then runs away while riding a horse made of smoke. When Dosil was out of sight she looks at Zala with a gentle smile unlike her beastly expression just moments ago. Zala’s face then turned blue.

Crisna: Thank you for protecting my children.

Zala: If you are going to thank someone then thank Nelus.

Crisna: So your name is Nelus? Thank you for saving my children and also helping me escape his control.

Nelus: How did he manage to control someone as powerful as you?

Crisna: He attacked my precious cubs. As I was going to protect them, he used this chance and used to directly control me. When he tried to touch my body, one of my cubs attacked him. He then made me attack them, that trash!! I somehow manage to tell them to run. He then made me chase them. While chasing them I somehow felt a barrier on my path so I attacked it.

Nelus: That was us.

Crisna: Yes. How about I reward you… you see, our race can only marry after birth as we are asexual. Childbirth is our proof of adulthood.

Zala: Childbirth before marriage!?

Crisna: Is that weird?

Zala: N-no…

Suddenly. Crisna grabs me with her as she slowly closes in with her lips towards mine,

Zala: Wait!? Stop!!!

Crisna: Hahaha!! Just joking!

She suddenly releases me while laughing at Zala. It felt like she wasn’t joking but I somehow think it is better to keep it to myself…

Crisna: Can I help you in some way?

Nelus: We are headed towards Domun Cave.

Crisna: Oh? Then I know a shortcut!

Crisna then smashes her fist toward the ground exposing a tunnel. As we followed her through it, after a while we saw the end of the tunnel. Exiting, we saw that the scenery has changed. We were in a forest. As we walked further, we saw a cave… it was Domun cave.

Nelus: Thank you.

Crisna: This is still nowhere enough in repaying you.

Nelus: You don’t need to.

Crisna: May I ask you something?

Nelus: What is it?

Crisna: Why are you not surprise to see me change to my humanoid form?

Nelus: I have two companions with me.

Crisna: Oh? Are they both guardian beasts?

Nelus: Fenrirs.

Crisna: “That” legendary mythical beast!?

Nelus: Yes.

Crisna: Hahh… I see… for them to follow you is quite understandable… I mean you have been holding back…

Nelus: How did you know?

Crisna: Because I also held back at least until I saw that you can protect my kids. So back there I manage to go mostly all out. So I can somehow notice since I am the same. Either you have a reason or that you are afraid for others to be caught up in it right?

Nelus: …

Crisna: Thought so. Anyways, be careful inside there is a very powerful creature. Someone like me can easily defeat it but just in case you can’t be too cautious.

Nelus: Thank you for the warning.

Crisna then closes in and whispers.

Crisna: Become mine and I will make you happy. Marry me, I think no one else is as worthy of marrying me as you.

Nelus: Sorry I must decline.

Crisna: Is it because of that girl?

Nelus: ?

Crisna: I guess not… well it can’t be helped. I’m sure that I will meet you again; you can always find me in Niilos Wasteland.

Zala: Waaahh!!! Noo!!

Suddenly, Crisna kisses my forehead as a crimson mark appeared then disappeared.

Crisna: With this we can see each other one day.

Nelus: (Guardian Link? What is that? So far I haven’t heard of anything like this…)

Crisna: That’s strange… it seems like your power outstrips mine… so you’re an X rank huh… then it will take time for the connection to establish… oh well.

Zala: Lets go Nelus!

Crisna: Goodbye. (It really is a waste to let him go… right now I don’t have any right to have him as I am weaker… I am not allowed to marry anyone unless a connection is formed and for me to do that I need to become stronger…)

As we part ways we suddenly heard a scream inside the cave.

???: Nooooooo!!!! Yoraaa!!

Yora: Guuhh!!

On Yora’s side a few hours ago…

Right now we are getting ready for an expedition towards Domun cave… we need to find Nawons to make equipment… our village was hit by a plague that slowly corrodes the mind… if we don’t act fast everyone is going to die…

Yora: Are you all stocked?

Mosie: Yes!

Rezald: Yes!

Yora: How about you Nillie?

Nillie: Ah! Uhm… yes!

Yora: Then let’s go!

As we depart from Wartis Village, we kept on encountering magical beasts… on our sights, we finally arrived at Domun Cave.

As we entered, so far we haven’t encountered any magical beasts which were quite weird… we then proceeded towards the next floor deeper. Upon arriving in front of us was a huge eel with four legs… it was a Nega, a unique A class magical beast… it has enough power to equal an S class boss monster… it was something we can’t defeat as it is extremely resistant to magic…

We tried to escape but it suddenly spew acid on the roof making it crumble and block our path so we had no choice but to fight. I am the swordsman of the group so I will fight it head on. Mosie is an archer, Nillie is a cleric and Rezald is a mage. I jumped and tried to slash its head as it easily dodges. Mosie then fires an arrow towards its stomach as it hits.

Mosie: I did it!

Rezald: Way to go!

Mosie: Ehe.

Then the arrow suddenly melted… so it was covered in an acidic coating… Rezald then used fire magic and it was unaffected, Rezald clicked his tongue. The Nega then rams itself on me and whips its tail on me. I was severely wounded Nillie tried to heal me with tears on her eyes… I was near death… as the Nega approached us it was charging up its acid to kill all of us… as I knew I was going to die… I could at least sacrifice myself for the others to escape…

Yora: Go… deeper… escape…

Mosie then grabs Nillie as Nillie struggles…

Nillie: Nooooooo!!!! Yoraaa!!

Nillie, then noticed that Mosie was crying and knew that Mosie in love with him so she stopped struggling… she knew that it was the hardest for her to let him go. On their side was Rezald biting his lips hard as blood flowed from the side of his mouth. He was frustrated that he was so powerless.

Yora: Guuhh!!

I was readying myself as even I was scared to die but if it was for them then I don’t care what happens to me… Rezald… please take care of them…

As the Nega drew closer, it opens its mouth as it was going to release its stored acid when suddenly… a huge explosion occurred on the blocked path. I saw a white blurred figure approached the Nega… then the Nega was suddenly crushed into the floor… a man with white hair and arms clad in lightning rushed in and smashed its head into the ground. He then looked at us… he was handsome…extremely handsome.

Nillie and Mosie looked at him with flustered faces while Rezald looked at him with sparkling eyes. Another figure entered… she had platinum short hair… she was extremely beautiful… she rushed in and using her twin sabers she slashed at the Nega numerous times. The Nega tried to fight back but it seems it cannot struggle free from the grasp of that man. The man then strengthens the electricity on his hand as the beast slightly convulses, with his other hand, the man then punched the beast as it dug deeper into the ground until it smashes through into the third floor below us, we trembled feeling the power of the man as we were pushed back by the shockwave it emitted. As the Nega drew its last breath the girl approached us.

???: Are you all alright?

She was so beautiful… my heart beat went faster as my face becomes hot, my vision was shaking and fading as I was losing too much blood…

Yora: An angel…

I said as I blacked out and lost consciousness…
