Chapter 47 – Aptitude

After teaching Welg about water magic he became extremely grateful, he now sees me as his teacher. As for the others they became very eager to learn from me… some were disappointed as for the first month only class 82 will have me as their teacher. The students in my class then raced towards me for me to check their aptitudes. Some of the other classes were eager to be checked of their aptitude also but were too embarrassed to approach me, especially the women.

???: Sir Nelus! Me next!

???: I got here first!

???: Wait, aren’t you the one who said to prank Sir Nelus on his first day?

???: Th-that…

Some of the students, more specifically those who value light magic more were irritated until suddenly a certain group of three shouted…

???: Hah!!?? You think elemental magic is strong? Oh please… we are Beings of Divinity for goodness sake! Light magic is enough for beings like us.

???: Yeah! Elemental magic other than light is for weaklings!!

???: I bet that purple crystal isn’t even real!

Welg: Hahh… it is them, the S class trio… one of the top students in the higher class…

Orta: Let me introduce ourselves! I’m Orta! This here is Yasler and finally, Peko!

???: It’s them… I heard they bullied a teacher to leave once.

???: I heard they once made the principal cry.

Welg: I heard that!! Stop spouting nonsense about my father!

Nelus: Calm down Welg.

Welg: …Okay…

Peko then whispered to Orta…

Peko: Boss… I think the rumor is getting out of control… isn’t it the other way around?

Orta: Shut up Peko! Hey don’t know that… also we can use the rumors to elevate our status.

Yasler: As expected of boss!

Orta: You!

Nelus: …

Orta: I challenge you a duel!

Peko: Boss! Are you crazy!?

Orta: Just watch, I’ll do something about it.

Nelus: I accept.

Welg: Sir Nelus! No you shouldn’t duel them! It should be me who should duel them.

Yasler: Weaklings should just watch!

Welg: What was that!?

Orta: You’re an X rank right? Then you must battle against us 3 and defeat us within… 10 minu… no! 5 minutes, ah! I mean 5 seconds!!

Everyone had a disgusted expression towards the trio as the trio had their chins up, still proud of themselves… even if they have confidence because of their rank, they wanted to be sure that they can win at all cost.

Raldine: Shameless!! You call yourselves a student of Lux Academy!?

Nelus: Why not.

Everyone-in-unison: Eeehhh!!??

Welg: A-are you sure Sir Nelus? I mean they are still S ranks…

Welg said as he looks at me with admiration unlike just moments ago.

Peko: B-boss… he seems confident… wh-what should we do now?

Orta: Trust me, he’s just bluffing… also once he cast his magic we can go split up in all directions while using so if one of us gets hit then we can avoid his other attacks, I mean what can he do in 5 seconds?

Nelus: (Hmm… what will I do… There are three of them so I should use an attack that can cover the whole arena.)

Orta: Peko, you can jump extremely high right? Use that for your advantage!

Nelus: (Just in case they will use their flying abilities, I should use my fire magic and increase its intensity while lowering the power just to increase its suction effect.)

Orta: Yasler, when he cast a spell, immediately use and hit his arms so that when he points his arm towards us then you can redirect his attacks!

Nelus: (Now to ready my mana conversion so that I don’t need to gather mana to convert, I only have 5 seconds after all, this much should be enough)

Yasler: Wonderful, boss!! You’re plan is foolproof!!

Orta: Hehehe!! I know! Now lets go!

We then entered the arena as everyone became tense, to beat 3 S rank even an X rank would need some time to defeat them even if they are weaker, they still have an advantage in numbers. The trio had a smug face confident that they can easily beat me.

Orta: You know what? You can use an X rank spell if you like. (X rank spells need time to cast, I know because I saw the principal battle once… I’m a genius!)

Nelus: (Perfect, then I’ll use and set its power to S class while using to spread the fire in just a second… oh… converting has finished, now the mana inside me is fire element now… only temporary though.)

Nelus’ eyes became red as the trio became startled, they were having a bad premonition that something is coming but just ignored it as they don’t believe in superstitions. They readied their spells and Orta drew his mana weapon. As the match started… everything went too fast… in a second a red sphere appeared… another second and it explodes and spreads throughout the arena, before Yasler was able to cast his quickest magic.

They all then split up but the flames were just too fast! Peko then jumped just to be immediately to be sucked into the flames… then it all exploded… Orta then winked to the other two as they all grinned… it was the “If we are to be defeated then be defeated with style". The three covered in wounds and burns while being blown away by the explosion, somersaulted on the air as Nelus was impressed by their tenacity as he thought they still have some fight in them to do such movements in such a state. Then they shouted and made everyone worried… all this happened in just four seconds.

Orta: Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhh!!! As expected of an X rank spell!!!

Peko: We have been defeated!!!

Yasler: You’ll see! Someday we’ll become stro… umph!!

They smashed into the wall… as Raldine was going to scold Nelus she saw that the arena was unscathed… if an X class magic was really used then the arena should be in tatters or at least have some damages… as there is only a minor X rank barrier covering it… so that means what Nelus did was that he used an X rank spell with a strength of an S rank… Raldine then sighed in relief… but then what made them blow away so far? She then got close to one of them and saw that their feet were glowing… they used … Raldine then covered her weary face as she smile wryly… it seems their magic actually accelerated the speed of them being blown away…

Nelus then gathered the trio and used until they were good as new… everyone was shocked… it seems that Nelus, besides attack magic can use support magic as well… they didn’t know that every magic and skill in Alxia was mostly based on him during the creation! So it’s no wonder that Nelus can do more than what a usual being can do. But they didn’t know that, all they know is that he has a dual quality… a rare talent. Everyone had sparkling eyes as they look at me.

The class then apologized for the commotion while Miss Raldine’s class proceeded with the trial, as usual; it seems Jull has won the trial. He then retains his position as the representative while looking at Raldine with a flustered face. We then head back to our room as I then prompt them to introduce themselves while I check their aptitude.

Welg: I am Welg son of the principal. Sir Nelus it’s good to have you as our teacher.

Nelus: As I have said before… Light high, Water high.

After Welg a plump guy stood up and introduced himself as did the others.

Kalba: I’m Kalba a Xaelos we should eat together sometimes!

Nelus: Aptitude, Light normal, Wind normal.

Then a girl wearing a golden necklace with blank crystal like eyes stood up afterwards.

Mita: I am Mita, a slephnir! I can transform into my beastform once I am an adult! Look forward to it!

Nelus: Aptitude, Light high, Earth low.

Another girl with a gloomy atmosphere… yet seemingly cool demeanor introduce herself.

Kagus: I’m… Kagus…

Nelus: Aptitude, Light normal, ice high.

A girl that seems to be a luminant…

Jawa: I’m Jawa! Did you know I saw an awesome yesterday! It is a good day!

Nelus: Aptitude, Light very high, lightning low.

A guy wearing a cloak and a mask…

Terul: Terul.

Nelus: Aptitude, Light normal, water normal, ice normal.

Everyone-in-unison: Ohh!! Amazing! Three elements!

A girl wearing a frilly white dress with a seemingly fragile demeanor introduced herself bashfully.

Yima: Uuu… my name… is Yima…

Nelus: Aptitude, Light high, Fire normal.

A guy wearing his uniform unkemptly while staring at Yima intently, introduced himself.

Daqual: I’m Daqual, Yima’s childhood friend. As usual, no one is allowed to get near her.

Yima: Stop it, Daqual…! You’re embarrassing me…

Daqual: …

Nelus: Aptitude, Light normal, Fire high.

Daqual: Yes! We have the same elements Yima!

Yima: Hmph!

As a girl with teary eyes stood up everyone snickered… Welg whispers to me it is because she is quite useless in magic…

Meril: I-I’m Meril!!

Nelus: Aptitude… Light… very low…

Mostly Everyone-in-unison: Aahahahah!! See, I knew it!!

Meril cried… tears fell from her cheek as I walk towards her… everyone went silent… I patted her head and smiled gently… she then stopped and became flustered… somehow… she feels like Altan when he was little so I unconsciously did it…

Nelus: Let me finish… Fire very high, Wind very high.

Meril: Eh…

Everyone-in-unison: Whhhhaaaattt!!??

Nelus: It is just because your light element is weaker than others… if you learn spells using your aptitude then I can guarantee you can become strong… what type of magic are you using?

Meril: I can use support magic at most… and a little battle magic which I gained the compatibility because of my parents.

Nelus: A rare talent.

Everyone became speechless as Meril… for the first time in a while actually smiled… they became ashamed of themselves as Welg apologized on behalf of the class as everyone nodded. Meril then said that she forgives them while thanking me… I smiled at her gently then turned around and returned to my table… Meril’s heart started beating fast as she grips her shirt tightly… she was then having a hard time looking at me as she became completely beet red while trembling.

Nelus: Is there something wrong, Meril?

Hearing her name coming from me, she couldn’t take it and fainted. I then carried her with a princess carry while most of them became envious. I then returned and went behind my table.

Cheil: Cheil…

Nelus: Aptitude… Light normal, Fire… variant high.

Welg: Sir Nelus what is a variant element?

Nelus: Unlike duality, it is an even rarer talent… it means that another element is naturally mixed with her…

Welg: And what element is that?

Nelus: Dark element… so the spells that you can used is spells with “Nox Pyro” I know some spells with that element so I can teach you somewhat.

Cheil: …

After the introductions as it was getting late I ended our class. As classed finished, everyone waved me goodbye as they left. Only I was left in the classroom. As I was leaving the door opened… it was Dae… glaring at me with killing intent while smiling darkly.

Dae: How’s my Zala and father? Heh…
