Chapter 31: Fans

Chapter 31: Fans

More and more people started to believe that this 'zero' was the same Zero that was a formations grandmaster.

That he had somehow lived for thousands of years

It became common knowledge that the 'Legend' Zero lived as an outer sect disciple in the Darkness Sect.

The Patriarch tried to deny such claims as it made the sect look bad that such a legendary figure was in the outer sect. Just how screwed was their progression system!?

But every time he tried to resolve the problem by making Zero an elder.

He got turned down...

So... now you had lines of people outside the Darkness Sect wanting to meet the 'Ancient Entity Zero'.

This was giving the patriarch quite a big headache.

He finally found a solution!

Contribution points...

He said he would resolve Zero's debt if he held a conference for all his fans.

Upon getting the option to resolve his debt in one instance.

Zero agreed.

So a conference was held by the gate of the sect.

Zero was quite surprised at the number of people that showed up.

There were even rank 4's in the crowd.

"Hello everybody. As you are probably are all wondering. I am indeed Formation Grandmaster Zero. I have solved many of the worlds toughest problems. I have invented a few things. I am sure you all have questions. So, to ensure that everyone gets a turn. I will be calling you out in the order you are in the crowd. Starting from the right and making my way to the left. I will answer the questions you have that are within my ability to answer. As long as the topic is not too private of a matter to me."

Zero starts receiving questions.

"Do you have a girlfriend?"

"That's really the first question you guys chose? No, I do not..."

"Are you looking for a girlfriend?"

"I am not... I prefer to be alone."

"Exactly how old are you?"

"I've lost track. I should be over a thousand I suppose."

"Mentally I am a lot older though."

"Where have you been all these years? You randomly show up in history and then disappear for hundreds to thousands of years. Just where do you go?"

"That's a trade secret. I'm afraid I can't answer that one."

"Did you really invent Gateways?"

"Yes."

"Are you working on any world shattering inventions at the moment?"

"Not currently. A few centuries ago. I worked on an interesting potion. But it will not be released to the public for now."

"Why not?"

"It's not my decision to make. It was a collaboration."

"With who?"

"I'm not at liberty to say."

"Are you accepting disciples?"

"No. What would I teach my disciples anyway?"

"Formations!"

"Ohhh... I suppose if someone in the sect shows enough talent with formations I could teach them."

"Are you really immortal like the rumors say?"

"Yes. I do not age."

"How have you achieved this?"

"It's just luck."

"Are you also invulnerable?"

"Yes."

"How did that happen?"

"That was also luck."

"Are you actually a time traveler?"

"Maybe... who knows?"

Zero shrugs.

"Do you come from another world? Or another universe?"

"I would rather not say."

Zero had to be a little careful.

He doesn't want to attract the attention of Owtz.

"Are you a reincarnation of a rank 7 being?"

"Nope."

"Have you reincarnated at all?"

"Never. I also never plan on reincarnating."

"How do you feel about your fan club?"

"I have a fan club?"

"..."

"What are your goals? What gives you motivation?"

"Mapping out chaos. Becoming a rank 10 existence."

Everybody cries out in shock.

"RANK 10?!"

"RANK 7 is the stuff of legends."

Then one person in the crowd snorts.

"You guys haven't been paying attention. Rank 7 may be the stuff of legends. But this man is a living legend himself. It only makes sense that his goals would be incomprehensible to us. Something impossible to us may in fact be within reach to him. Especially with his high aptitude and current progress."

"I mean, he's rank 6. He's only a step away from rank 7!"

Zero was not rank 6.

He did not appreciate the random guy hyping up his level.

He prayed to himself that hopefully nobody would ask him his aptitude.

But with the amount of questions.

It was asked.

"Is your aptitude a 13 or the myth 14?"

"No."

"What is your aptitude?"

"I cannot say for reasons beyond your understanding. But it is... low."

"Can your immortality be inherited by your kids?"

"They'd live longer then usual, but not really."

"What is your opinion on foreigners not being able to produce children in this dimension?"

"I don't care about that issue."

And so the conference went on with him answering a variety of questions.

Some didn't ask a question and just wanted a hug or a handshake from him

After a few hours when everyone had been given a chance.

He dismissed everyone and headed back to his house in the outer sect.

At the door was Obsidian.

He was kneeling right beside the door.

Zero had no idea why this random person was kneeling.

But the man said nothing to him.

After a few years he took pity on him.

And finally talked with him.

It all came down to a single sentence that Obsidian said.

When Zero asked him.

"Why do you wish to be my disciple?"

Instead of an an expected answer like

"To learn formations."

"To acquire immortality."

"To become a rank 6."

He gave an answer that resonated with Zero

He said.

"I wish to be able to do the impossible."

Zero remembered when he had just been a soldier working for an organization.

How he longed to be something more.

How he read all of those web novels in hopes of finding his path.

It worked out for him.

But the path to get where he was was filled with the endless corpses of his other selves.

It was an impossible path.

It was this day that he accepted his first and possibly only disciple.

It turned out Obsidian was a rank 2.

With an aptitude of 10.

He didn't know much about formations.

He was also born in the sect.

Zero agreed to be his teacher if he promised to do as ordered.

Zero first ordered him to disable his passives.

He then scanned him.

[ECHO]: {Name: "Obsidian Hellfire", Species: Human (Demon - Warlock), Energy: 0 GR, Strength: 2, Vitality: 10, Mana: 720, Spirit: 10, Soul: 2}

"Very good. You will will lose the ability to sleep upon switching your bloodline to a zero."

"I will help you change your perspective to that of a paradox."

"Paradox?"
