Chapter 24: Rank 2

Chapter 24: Rank 2

Memorize only cost me 50 mana since I have two templates.

So when the match starts I just cast memorize and hit the person off the stage.

People had begun to get bored of this.

It was quite easy to get so far.

The final match ended up being against a rank 3.

They were able to trap me in an illusion briefly.

A bit of my own medicine I suppose.

But when they went in to boot me off the stage.

My body refused to budge.

My infinity makes it so I take 0% of the knockback of attacks.

The illusion obviously didn't cause my infinity to drop.

Once I snapped out of the illusion, I used the same strat on them.

But they were completely immune to memorize.

This is a little tricky.

It's not like I can use erase on them.

This isn't a to the death type of battle.

That spell would be overkill.

I resort to imbuing magic in my sword and charging at them.

Their technique is far more polished then mine.

They absolutely decimate me in the art of the sword.

But my resistance to knockback and inability to take damage makes it so I am an unmovable object.

While they themselves are an unstoppable force.

Who will win?

The first few minutes...

People were cheering for both of us.

After a few hours, everyone had gone silent.

Once it had been an entire day.

The rank 3 started to tire.

That's it!

They will tire, while I will not!

Unfortunately I ran out of mana.

My sword also broke.

So I was using just my finger.

It was probably weird watching a guy use his bare hands to clash against a sword.

After three days.

The rank 3 also ran out of mana.

We were wrestling on the ground.

I still wasn't tired... but I had not a speck of mana in me.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

After a week.

They had to call it a draw.

The rank 3 sighed in relief.

People thought I was a monster for being able to battle a rank 3 for so long.

The truth is.

I was so close to winning too!

If only I had another week...

We both ended up splitting the prize.

So I received another 25k.

We also both got to go in the vault.

I picked a ring that hides the users presence.

It also allows the wearer to become invisible.

This could come in handy.

The reason I picked this was because of the exploit I found in this worlds magic.

If in the future I am able to get my nanites to have a soul.

I would give off the aura of trillions of mages at once.

This would draw attention to me.

Luckily with this ring as well as my infinity.

My aura will be hidden.

It was now impossible for anybody below rank 4 to see through my level.

It would also effect those rank 4+ as long as they weren't right in front of me.

It is the perfect disguise for the souls of my nanites in the future.

I return back to my room.

I finish etching the 720th rune on my chain.

I can feel the fifth layer of my soul.

I carve my passive rank 2 spell.

Unlike with infinity.

My 2nd passive spell will match that of other rank 2's.

It will at least serve a similar function.

I did decide to change the name.

[ECHO]: {Name: "Infinite Flight", Level: 2, Type: Target, Element: Mana, Cost: 0, Desc: "Allows the target to fly."}

It's a little bit better since I made it myself.

What makes it different is that I can also use mana to give others the ability to fly.

Making the spell targetable makes it a lot better compared to other flight spells that can't target.

I'm now rank 2.

[ECHO]: {Name: "Zero #119", Species: Abyssal Paradox (Human), Energy: 1 GR, Strength: 11, Vitality: 21, Nanites: 3.87274e+13, Mana: 720. Spirit: 985, Soul: 79}

The main perks of rank 2 is the third spell template.

Now mana cost are cut by two thirds.

Instead of just half.

Also the ability to fly and allow others to fly too.

It felt quite freeing to be able to fly again.

It also doesn't use any mana since it is my passive spell.

I now have 50k contribution points to spend.

A rank 3 spell cost 10k points.

I could buy 5 of those.

Or I could buy like 25 rank 2 spells.

During that battle with the rank 3.

I found that I don't really have a defense against illusions.

So I'm thinking of making that my passive.

A spell that makes me immune to illusions.

I'll need to acquire more rank 3 spells.

It feels kinda bad to spend my contribution points.

But there is no point to wealth if it isn't turned into a resource for you to use!

I search through the rank 3 spells and buy four of them.

I save the last 10k contribution points for potential materials that I will need in the future.

Just in case.

Also it is so I'm not poor.

The Patriarch banned me from doing common task.

So no more becoming rich by doing simple task for centuries...

These are the spells I bought:

[ECHO]: {Name: "Detect Thoughts", Level: 3, Type: Target, Element: Mana, Cost: 800, Desc: "Read the thoughts of target."}

[ECHO]: {Name: "Dispel Magic", Level: 3, Type: Target, Element: Mana, Cost: 400, Desc: "Cancels out magic effect on target"}

[ECHO]: {Name: "Telekinesis", Level: 3, Type: Target, Element: Mana, Cost: 400, Desc: "Ability to move target with a thought"}

[ECHO]: {Name: "Blink", Level: 3, Type: Self, Element: Mana, Cost: 400, Desc: "Self is able to teleport to location in their sight."}

Screw it.

I had 10k left.

I might as well buy some rank 2 spells.

One of those cost around 2k.

So I choose four.

[ECHO]: {Name: "Comprehend Language", Level: 2, Type: Target, Element: Mana, Cost: 600, Desc: "Learn the language of the target."}

[ECHO]: {Name: "Disguise Illusion", Level: 2, Type: Target, Element: Mana, Cost: 400, Desc: "Put a disguise over the target."}

[ECHO]: {Name: "Sleep", Level: 2, Type: Target, Element: Mana, Cost: Varies, Desc: "Puts target to sleep."}

[ECHO]: {Name: "Neutralize Poison", Level: 2, Type: Target, Element: Mana, Cost: 400, Desc: "Removes poison on target."}

I save the last 2k for a rainy day.

Ahhh...I'm broke now.

But my utility has increased a bit.

Using echo and the five rank 3 spell templates.

I make what will be my passive for rank 3.

I can't use it yet.

[ECHO]: {Name: "Infinite Mind", Level: 3, Type: Self, Element: Mana, Cost: 0, Desc: "Protects self against all forms of illusions and mind traps."}

Normally this type of spell would only protect the self from illusions and traps of rank 3 and lower.

So a rank 4 illusion would still effect you.

But I put some of my comprehension of infinity.

So just like how Infinity makes my body invulnerable by not letting attacks even reach me.

This makes it so mental attacks can't reach me either.
