Chapter 49: Be better.

Chapter 49: Be better.

(Selenia’s POV)

It was incredibly annoying having to walk the same path that I did for the past few days. Rem straight up went in the opposite direction that we were traveling in. Almost undoing at least a week of travel time…

But I swallowed my annoyance and walked without complaining about it. Oddly, we passed a decent sized city, but didn’t get a carriage to ride. Ah, we also easily cleared Rem’s name. It literally took one word from the three of us, and she was almost instantly reinstated as a Paladin. Shit… The various thanks that she gave us is still seared into my damn mind…

Selenia: “Why don’t we get a carriage?” I ask.

Cirilia: “It is too dangerous.” She answered.

Selenia: “Huh? Why is it dangerous?” I ask with a head tilt.

Resoria: “Not long after we left, there were countless attempts on your life, Selenia. Clearly there is a rat in my family that leaked our travel plans. As such, we will make it to the academy on foot.” She explained.

Rem: “On foot? If it is the academy that I am thinking of, won’t it take months to reach it on foot?” She said with a concerned tone.

Resoria: “And why should our plus one care?” She said with a scoff.

Rem: “…”

Despite acting like we were her saviors, both Cirilia and Resoria still act very cold, and sometimes even rude and cruel to Rem. Rem doesn’t complain. It honestly seems like Rem feels that this treatment of her is deserved.

Selenia: “Cirilia… Resoria…” I say, stopping in place.

Cirilia: “…”

Resoria: “…Yes?” She nervously asked for both herself and Cirilia.

Selenia: “You two have disappointed me.” I reply with a cold tone.

Resoria: “…”

Cirilia: “…”

Yeah, that is the expression that you should be giving me. Why must I have to treat these two like children? Normally, they’re both are and act mature. But when it comes to things regarding me, they act like mindless school girls…

Resoria: “How have we disappointed you, Selenia? Did we not save you fast enough?” She asked with great nervousness.

Selenia: “You’re abusing Rem for no good reason, and it upsets me. Rem is a good person who was tricked. She doesn’t deserve this treatment. I am disappointed, as you two act as if since she hurt me, you two are justified in hurting her in my honor.” I explain.

Resoria: “…”

Cirilia: “…”

Selenia: “You can treat our enemies like pure trash, even torture them before ending their lives. I won’t really care. But I do not want to see this kind of behavior given to our allies, or good people. This isn’t me going to bat for Rem, this is me being upset that you two would abuse someone like this. I know that you two are better than this.” I say with a stern tone.

Resoria: “Is… is this another one of your, “Solving a problem early before it becomes hard to solve.” lectures, Selenia?” She asked.

Selenia: “Yes.” I reply with a nod.

Resoria: “We understand. We overstepped our bounds, and acted like terrible people. We will do better in the future, Selenia.” She said with a bow.

Cirilia: “…I haven’t done anything to Rem, though, right?” She said with an aggrieved tone.

Selenia: “You were still cold to her. What do you mean? And not the kind of coldest that you usually are. I honestly thought that I was seeing things when you slapped away a treat that Rem offered you while we were still in the city.” I reply.

Cirilia: “…”

It truly went beyond just being angry with Rem. It was to the point where it was upsetting. I thought that the stab wound that they inflicted on her would be enough. But it clearly wasn’t enough for them to feel satisfied.

The level was that of cruelty, pure and simple. I thought that these two knew where to draw the line, but when it comes to me, they don’t know when to stop. This is a problem. A problem that I want to solve asap.

Rem: “Lady Selenia, I appreciate your words, but I deserve their treatment.” She said.

Selenia: “You don’t deserve it at all. Stop thinking like that. Aren’t you a highly respected Paladin? Why let people treat you horrible like this? Just because you got tricked…” I reply with an annoyed tone.

Resoria: “Cirilia and I get it, Selenia. We truly do. And we’re sorry, Rem. I don’t know what is happening to us. It’s like we lose all reason when it comes to Selenia.” She said with a remorseful tone.

Cirilia: “Yes, Paladin Rem, we’re sorry. I am not acting like myself.” She said with a remorseful tone as well.

Rem: “Do you two love her?” She asked.

Selenia: “They do, yes. But we’re waiting until Cirilia and I are old enough to be in a relationship before we do anything.” I answer for them.

Rem: “Then that explains it completely.” She said with a laugh.

Rem had a long laugh, seemingly figuring out why this happened, and seemed to even forgave Cirilia and Resoria for what they did to her. But… why?… What is it that she knows that we don’t?

Selenia: “What do you mean?” I ask with a confused tone.

Rem: “Before that, are you three all blessed? And, are you three all blessed by the same higher being?” She asked.

Resoria: “As crazy as it sounds, yes.” She answered.

Rem: “It isn’t common knowledge, but in the texts that Paladins have access to, it is said to never anger a blessed couple.” She said.

Selenia: “Why not?” I ask.

Rem: “For blessed people, when they find someone they love, their emotions are felt like they are tripled. Princess Selenia, you’re too young to feel its effects much, but Princess Resoria and Lady Cirilia do feel it. For couples blessed by the same higher being, it is said to be more than tripled.” She explained.

Ah… that would explain a lot of things… I mean, I totally ignored when Resoria moan after I lightly jabbed her side a few days ago…Resoria and Cirilia have started to act more extreme ever since I practically told them that I will be marrying them in the future. To them, I am already theirs. And to be fair to them, I see them as mine already as well.

Selenia: “Resoria, Cirilia, I am sorry for getting upset without understanding the reason behind your actions.” I say with a remorseful tone.

Resoria: “You have nothing to apologize for, Selenia.” She replied.

Selenia: “But…” I try to say more, but Resoria cut me off.

Resoria: “The reason for our actions is now understood, but we still did them, regardless. We acted in a way that hurt you to see. I understand this, and so does Cirilia. After all, if I saw you treating people like we did, I would be upset as well.” She said while giving me a hug.

Cirilia: “She is right. I am sorry that I upset you like this, Selenia. We will do better in the future. We will be people who you can love and respect without feeling any grief for doing so.” She swore, giving me a hug of her own.

After that, I reconciled with them. And they apologized to Rem once more. Then, they did something that surprised me. They praised me for bring this up. In their words, if I didn’t bring it up, they wouldn’t have realized it anytime soon.

I’ve always hated drama, but I swallowed that hesitation because I have great love and respect for these two. If I didn’t love them, I wouldn’t have brought it up at all. And thankfully, rather than strain our relationship, it made it far stronger. Now I can continue this journey to the academy of ours to the fullest!
