Chapter 12: Radahn’s Gambit.
(Selenia’s POV)
Oddly, Radahn let us eat in peace, and he didn’t even eat with us. I actually ended up being worried that the food was poisoned… Luckily, that wasn’t the case. Which meant that he probably had something else crazy to ask of me.
Selenia: “Rana, General Radahn and I need to have a private conversation.” I say with a smile.
Rana: “…Alright…” She said with a sigh before leaving the room.
Radahn: “…”
Selenia: “So, what crazy thing will you ask of me next?” I ask with a curious tone.
Radahn: “I need you to kill someone…” He said with a sigh.
Selenia: “You’d need to be more specific, Radahn.” I reply with a sigh of my own.
Radahn: “A little while ago, the king of Avenom gave me a secret letter.” He said before handing me the letter.
The letter had some very interesting words written on it. Truly, I now know why Radahn wants me to kill this king. That is, I assume the king is who he wants me to kill. Not! I can’t read!
Selenia: “Radahn, I cannot read.” I say with a giggle.
Radahn: “Ah, right… my bad…” He said with an awkward laugh.
Selenia: “So? What does this letter even say?” I ask.
Radahn: “Basically, he wants me to commit treason. If I do, I will retain my rank when he takes this kingdom over.” He answered.
Selenia: “What kind of treason?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.
Radahn: “Simple. Just let him and his forces pass us by. But that isn’t the only thing, Selenia…” He said with while not being able to look me in the eyes.
Selenia: “What is it, Radahn?” I ask with a sigh.
Radahn: “To prove my loyalty, he wants me to send my daughter, who will be kept until they pass us by.” He answered.
Selenia: “I see… so you want to send me instead? And, when they least expect it, kill him? Would I even have the chance?” I ask with an unsure tone.
Radahn: “You will… King Albert is a pervert who loves children. He wants my daughter, and he oddly thinks that I don’t know of his terrible desires. If I sent my daughter, he would surely rape her…” He said with an angry tone.
Selenia: “I got lucky last time, Radahn. There is no saying that I will get lucky again… What if I can’t kill him, and Albert has his way with me? Is there even any point in accepting his offer, even as a trick?” I ask with a serious tone.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
At my words, the weight of what he is asking of me finally set in. Radahn seemed to be lost in thought. This isn’t him just asking me to kill someone, this is far more than just something like that. I won’t do it without proper compensation…
Radahn: “If he touches you, I will adopt you. You will never want for anything ever again. Any request of yours I will fulfill. Even if you request for my head.” He said with a serious tone.
Selenia: “I don’t want your head, Radahn… Assuming that I am successful, then what will I get?” I ask.
Radahn: “Nothing material, I am afraid.” He admitted.
Selenia: “Then why would I ever accept?” I ask with an annoyed tone.
Radahn: “You will gain my undying loyalty. Do this, and I would even kill the king of Sooven for you, just for you to become its new ruler.” He replied.
Selenia: “Your loyalty would be nice, I admit… Can you really not give me anything other than that, though?” I ask with a confused sigh.
Radahn: “Sooven has decided to deal with Yentri, as you have greatly weakened them. But Avenom wants to push into Sooven regardless of losing Yentri. The Alwessal Empire has decided to abandon Sooven, and to retreat all of the nobles, military, and royalty to a different kingdom.” He quickly explained.
Selenia: “Is Avenom that big of a threat?” I ask.
Radahn: “Yes. Which is why Albert’s offer is so good. Avenom will attack in a month, but we’ve been ordered to leave this kingdom behind within a week.” He answered.
What the fuck?… I didn’t expect to be thrown into something this crazy so soon… Would killing this Albert person stop the war? If it would be that easy, then why has no one taken him out yet? I am not the only sneaky person capable of assassinating someone…
Radahn: “I see that look on your face, Selenia. Basically, it isn’t worth it to kill him. At most, it would just halt the war for a few months. The Alwessal Empire has enemies across the entire world, and all of them want their fertile land. But if you do kill him, then this kingdom will be saved.” He explained.
Selenia: “And yet, I will be given nothing in return? That is, besides your loyalty, which I do greatly want.” I ask.
Radahn: “Frankly, no one can even know about this at all. It will be a secret between you and me. Until I reach my grave, I pray that you will keep it to yourself, even if you don’t accept.” He replied.
Selenia: “Radahn, I want to be promoted. If I do this for you, I want you to try your damnedest to get me promoted. I know that you only ask this of me, as you greatly love this kingdom, and I respect that.” I demand.
Radahn: “I will try my best, Selenia.” He said with a bow.
Wow… having a great general bow to me is kinda cool… Though, it is mostly funny, as he is bowing to a child, haha.
Selenia: “How will I be handed off to Albert? And why does it think I am your daughter?” I ask.
Radahn: “Clearly, we have some spies within our ranks. They most likely have assumed that you were my daughter. I do give you special treatment, after all.” He assumed.
Selenia: “And the pick up?” I ask once again.
Radahn: “In the dead of the night, a carriage will show up on the road near the gate of the fort. All you have to do is get into it, and ride to Avenom. Albert is staying at an estate on the border, so the ride should only be a few hours at most.” He explained.
Selenia: “Wow… how fancy. Will I go as I am right now?” I ask.
Radahn: “I am General Radahn Quartz, no daughter of my family will be in terrible dresses. I permit you to use the newer dresses in the wardrobe. They should fit you, and to be honest, you can just keep them all. They should be too big for my daughter now, anyway.” He answered.
With a sigh, I shooed Radahn out of the room so that I could change my dress. I went with a light red dress, that sorta went well with my hair and eyes. I also kept my knife strapped to my thigh. I am sure that I can trick them to let me keep it. I heard a knock on my door a few hours later.
Radahn had a bad look on his face when I opened up the door, so I knew that it was time for me to go do something crazy once more… Whatever God or Goddess that blessed me last time, please do the same this time as well!…
