Chapter 2: Bad or Good Choice?
(Selenia’s POV)
Despite being a cold person, and having a name similar to what a demon would have, Selenia, I still had empathy. Leaving this woman here to be raped to death would cause a permanent scare on my heart and soul.
Though it was clearly a very bad idea, I slowly approached the man. I showed the woman my knife that was drawn, and she understood my intentions. All of sudden, just to distract the man, she pretended as if she was having the time of her life.
I applaud the woman in my heart… The man was caught up in his horrible sexual act, unaware of his surroundings, so I was able to get extremely close to him. As I made one last step toward him, the floor beneath me let out a creaking sound…
As the man turned his head, I jammed my knife right into his face, as hard as my child hands and arms could muster. Thankfully, as I stabbed through his eye, this was more than enough to kill him.
I was a child, so it was hard to push his body off of the woman. Though, with her help, we succeeded in doing so. The woman cleaned herself off and then gave me a hug.
Woman: “You aren’t from around here, right? That was a brave thing that you did dear, and I will never forget how you’ve helped me.” She said with a smile.
Trying to take out the knife from the man’s head, was harder than I thought that it would be. The woman had to help me get it out. She thankfully handed me back the knife.
Selenia: “Why was this town raided?” I ask with a curious tone.
Woman: “Why? Oh, because this town is on the edge of the Alwessal Empire. A few of the neighboring kingdoms decided to band together to go to war with us. Could I perhaps know your name, child? Mine is Resoria.” She asked.
Selenia: “My name is Selenia.” I reply.
Resoria: “Could I also ask why you’ve ended up here? This war-torn village is no place for a child.” She asked with a curious tone.
Ah, so they called it a village. Good to know. Though, it’s not like this is mission critical information to know…
Selenia: “My father ended his own life, and left me alone with no food. I had to venture out if I didn’t want to starve.” I explain.
Resoria: “And you decided to look for food in this place? How brave…” She said with an awed tone.
From the man’s body, she took off his rank badge, dog tag, and emblem. She then handed me them all. Why, though? I can’t eat these, right?…

Resoria: “This man was a highly respected commander in his military. These will signify his identity. Take these to a military outpost, and explain that you killed him. They will surely take you in. Though, you will end up a soldier.” She explained.
Selenia: “Better than starving to death, I guess. What about you?” I ask with a curious tone.
Resoria: “I would love to take you with me, but it would be too dangerous. I can go back to my family, and they will help me out.” She answered.
Selenia: “I think that I saw this man’s horse outside, so you can take it with you.” I reply.
Resoria: “He left a horse!? Then… I might be able to take you with me, little Selenia.” She proposed.
Selenia: “I’d just be dead weight, Resoria. Please go alone, and I hope that you will make it to safety.” I deny.
Resoria: “You’re breaking my heart, dear… There isn’t any food left in this place, they have long since ransacked everything. Will you go to an outpost? I can point you in its direction.” She asked.
Selenia: “Yes, that is my plan, and I would very much appreciate you pointing out where one is.” I reply with a smile.
With that, we left the house. Resoria gave her husband one last and seemingly forced kiss on his forehead before we left. That man’s horse was still there, so I helped Resoria up onto it. Luckily, the woman knew how to ride one.
Resoria: “You’re so well mannered… I feel like a horrible person leaving you on your own. You did save me, after all, Selenia…” She said with a sad tone.
Selenia: “If we both survive, then you can make it up to me some time later. Now go!” I say before slapping the horse on its butt.
Keep in mind, I am still just a small child, so I had to jump to hit the horse’s butt. This caused Resoria to laugh. Despite her laughing at me, I was happy. If I was able to give her a small window of happiness in this dark time, then her laughing at me was more than worth it.
Resoria and the horse left with great haste. Rather or not doing this will help me in the future, I do not care. Helping her made me feel alive. Killing that man also felt oddly good as well…
It seems that I am even more of a broken person than I realized… With a sigh, I left the village and went in the direction that Resoria pointed out to me. From her words, it should take me about an hour to reach it.
An Hour Later.
Thinking back, I probably should have taken the man’s head with me. Guess what? Before I left the village, I did just that. I didn’t want to mention it until now, as I felt like an evil person for doing it.
His head was heavy too, and by the time that I reached the outpost, it smelled horrible. The stench was almost enough to make me throw up…
Currently, I was standing before a large gate. Rather than the makeshift wood outpost that I imagined, this place was a sizable fort. I wish that Resoria mentioned that little detail…
The gate opened, and ten knights all swarmed around me. They had their weapons drawn, so I made sure not to make any unnecessary movements.
This was a stalemate for a while, until a slightly old man showed up to part the sea of knights. He looked me up and down while stroking his mustache. The man looked to be some kind of famed general. At least, that was the feeling that I got from him.
Oldish Man: “Whose head would that be, little girl?” He asked with a curious tone.
Selenia: “I have no idea. Though, he was wearing the emblem of a different kingdom than yours, so I thought that if I brought his head and his IDs to you all, it would be enough to at least win me some food.” I explain with a nonchalant tone.
The man let out a hearty laugh, scaring both me and the knights around me. Oh, shit… I didn’t make a mistake in coming here, right?… How long are you even going to laugh for, old man?… I didn’t even say anything funny…
