Chapter 29: In This Episode, I Kill a lot...
(Selenia’s POV)
I woke up to the sound of someone banging on my door. Looking out the window, the sun was still in the process of coming up. Really? These people couldn’t wait more than a few hours to try to start some shit?…
With a sigh, I got up from my bed and jumped out the window. Quickly, I was surrounded on all sides. Can I run a fort just by myself? At the very least, I have to leave about fifty of them alive. Though, that depends on their intentions…
Selenia: “A truly rude way to wake someone up. Who do I have to kill to solve this problem?” I ask with an annoyed tone.
Random Soldier: “Foolish girl! Now that monster of a woman is gone…” His words were cut short.
Selenia: “How dare you call Cirilia a monster!” I say with an angry tone.
The mans lifeless body fell to the ground, as I drew my blade and cut his head off before he could even finish his worthless words. Like I just lit the wick on a firework, they all rushed to me with their weapons drawn. I hope that this place has a bath…
An Hour Later.
To set an example, I easily threw every soldier that I killed into a neat and tall pile. Trash was trash, it seems. In the end, I only let fifteen soldiers live. They didn’t throw their weapons away, instead; they helped me fight. Their help wasn’t necessary, but them doing such a thing did save their lives. So it was very necessary for them, at least.
Selenia: “Burying so many bodies will be hard, but please do so.” I order.
Soldier: “General, shouldn’t we just throw the bodies away somewhere else?” She asked.
Selenia: “Vana, do I look like someone that would show mercy to her enemies?” I ask.
Vana was the one that started the rest coming to my aid. She pretended to be a man, but her voice was clearly that of a woman’s. Since she started to help me, I decided to promote her to my Lieutenant.
Vana: “No, General Selenia… But why bury the bodies?” She asked with a confused tone.
Selenia: “Leaving the bodies will attract monsters, rodents, insects, and disease. Dealing with their bodies properly isn’t a mercy or a thing of good will. It is simply ensuring that their bodies don’t become an inconvenience to us.” I explain.
Vana: “…”
Selenia: “They were an inconvenience in life, so at the very least we should ensure that they aren’t as well in death. Now, please carry out my orders, and then come to my office.” I say with a smile.
Stolen story; please report.
Vana: “Yes, General!” She said with a salute.
The rest of the soldiers saluted as well, and I went back into the command center. This place wasn’t in good shape at all. Sooven truly didn’t care about this fort that protected this specific border. I mean, there were various holes in the fort, and I wager that the border isn’t in any better shape…
A Few Hours Later.
It was a tall order, pun fully intended, but the fifteen remaining soldiers carried it out to success within just a few hours. Currently, Vana was standing in front of my desk, being all fidgety. Oh, come on. I won’t bite if you don’t bite first. Probably?…
Selenia: “Explain the situation of this fort, Vana. The remainder act like actual soldiers, but the ones we killed acted like petty thugs.” I demand.
Vana: “Reporting! Our General killed the original General of this base, and he took it over. He was a local gang leader before he did. Though, that was many years, but the kingdom of Sooven didn’t even realize the change in Generals.” She hurriedly explained.
What the heck? Am I going insane!? Why does it seem that offing your superior officer is just a short path to replacing them in this world? I mean, this is like the second time I’ve heard of this happening…
Selenia: “Will there be any other problems now that I’ve dealt with the troublemakers?” I ask.
Vana: “Monsters are our main problems at the moment, General Selenia.” She replied.
Selenia: “And what of the town? You mentioned a local gang.” I ask.
Vana: “Once he became the General of this fort, the town quickly became abandoned. Our only source of food and water are monthly shipments provided to us by our kingdom.” She answered.
Selenia: “Well, it’s good to know that we will have much surplus of food and water.” I say with a happy tone.
Vana: “Huh? Why?” She said with a head tilt.
Selenia: “…”
Okay, Vana is somewhat slow, but she is a genius compared to the rest of the fort… Not really a high bar, but even the most dimwitted member of Radahn’s fort was better than these people. Well, I have to work with what I got…
Selenia: “Because I killed most of our troops, Vana. Fewer mouths to feed, you see. Speaking of food, please bring me something to eat.” I answer with a sigh.
With a salute, Vana rushed out of the room. I am that scary? If so, I really wished those idiots thought this whole thing through before they acted… They probably got caught up in the idea that they could take my place. I am just a child on the outside, after all.
Vana: “General Selenia! I have your food!” She exclaimed after returning to my office.
That was fast… And the reason it was so fast was very simple. The food was just a dried piece of bread, and a cup of water. Fuck… Radahn really fucked up by spoiling me… Now I have to get used to this shitty food…
With a sigh, I ordered Vana to go get a map of the surrounding area. I wanted to know more about this monster problem. It seemed that finding a map was a harder task than finding food, as Vana took an entire hour to return.
Vana: “Sorry for the wait, General Selenia!” She said with a bow.
Selenia: “Uh-uh… Point to me where the monsters show up.” I ask.
It goes without saying, but I had easily finished off that bare minimum of food before Vana returned. I was hoping that the monsters were ones that we could eat, as I would go insane to eat these stale bread for more than a month…
Desert life was hard, but there was oddly a small grassland area. Most of the monsters came from that place. A full attack never happened, and it seemed as if the monsters were just messing with this fort. Odd… are monsters smart in this world?
Semi doesn’t count, as she is just a person with a cool thing that she can transform into. I would hate it if I had to kill things that were sentient and have thoughts of their own… I asked Vana about the appearance of the monsters, and I got very, very excited!
