Chapter 36: Rank.
(Selenia’s POV)
What the heck?… When I woke up, I was already in a carriage, and I was wearing a very expensive looking dress. At least wake me up first. Eh, whatever. At least I didn’t have to endure being a dress up doll for the maids…
Cirilia: “Good morning, Selenia.” She said with a warm smile.
Selenia: “Good morning. Are you coming with me?” I ask with a smile.
Cirilia: “Yes. As we’re both blessed by the same Goddess, it is my duty to ensure your safety on this trip.” She replied.
Selenia: “Aw… it’s not because you like me?” I ask with a feigned sad expression.
Cirilia: “…”
Selenia: “?”
Cirilia: “That is part of it, yes.” She admitted with a red face.
Ah, what a cute reaction… You wouldn’t think that this woman was stronger than me, and has surely killed far more people than I have so far. Cute and deadly? What a good combo! At least, I think so. Our enemies probably don’t think the same.
Selenia: “That’s good to know! Speaking of knowing, is there anything special about this event?” I ask with a curious tone.
Cirilia: “Once the King knights and gives you the rank of General, the noble families present will try to adopt you.” She answered.
Selenia: “Any that I should consider?” I ask.
Cirilia: “It will cause chaos, but you should join my Sarn family.” She replied.
Selenia: “I can’t do that.” I deny.
Cirilia: “Huh? Why not?…” She asked with a sad expression.
Unlike my joke earlier, Cirilia is actually sad about what I said. Aaaaa! So cute!! If only we weren’t still children, then I would be begging her to take my hand in marriage!…
Selenia: “If I end up as your sister, it will be harder for us to get married in the future.” I answer with a bright smile.
Cirilia: “…”
Her face was beet red, and she couldn’t give a retort or reply to my words. Yet another very cute reaction! Man, I don’t think that I will ever get tired of seeing Cirilia’s expressions…

For the rest of the ride, Cirilia was mostly silent. Though, before arriving at the capital city of Sooven, she started talking again. Which makes sense, as it took a few days to make it to the capital. A day passed, and the embarrassment from before was farther back in her cute mind.
Once at the capital city, we drove straight to the castle. Cirilia helped me out of the carriage, which I very much liked. She then held my hand and guided me to the audience chamber. I was a little nervous… This will be the first audience chamber where I don’t kill the owner of it.
Opening the door, I was greeted by a grand and huge audience chamber. Many people littered the place, and all looked at me like I was some fresh meat. Not in a sexual or bad way, mind you. They looked at me like I was a source of power for their family.
King Houst: “Lady Selenia, from day onward, you will be a General in my military. Do you accept?” He asked.
Selenia: “Yes, I do.” I reply.
The king then knighted me with his sword, tapping both of my shoulders. Hah. I didn’t realize that this was a real thing, and not something that fantasy books just made up for fun. Once the knighting thing was over, the people swarmed me.
It was chaos, much like Semi promised. Like they were rapid animals, I had to beat some of them to calm the situation back down. Even after they calmed down, they kept almost begging me to let them adopt me.
All of a sudden, a woman came into the audience chamber, and everyone was silent. They all bowed to her, and called her princess. So this was King Houst’s daughter? Cirilia did mention her. The only problem is, this woman is Resoria…
Resoria: “Selenia!” She said after running up to me and giving me a tight hug.
Selenia: “Resoria?” I ask with a confused expression.
She mentioned that her family would help her, but she didn’t mention that she was actually a princess… Well, that makes sense. Even as a child, it wouldn’t have been wise to admit this to a random person like me.
Resoria: “Father, this is the child that saved me. Please, I beg of you to adopt her.” She said with a serious tone.
Rather than begging, it was more like an order from her. Did she have that kind of authority? That would be weird. From thinking about it, Resoria probably gave up her rights as a princess to live with her husband. Though, the fact that she is still called that, must mean that she has some weight in this place.
King Houst: “Very well… From this day forth, Selenia will be known as General Selenia Sooven.” He declared.
Everyone was shocked by this news, but they soon rejoiced. Was this better for them, or something? I guess it would solve a problem with another family becoming too powerful…
Resoria: “Selenia, come, let us go to my room.” She proposed before putting me down and grabbing my hand.
Selenia: “Alright.” I reply with a smile.
Did I even have any room to deny her? I mean, I did save her, and she is a princess, but I felt like if I didn’t agree, I would highly regret it. Cirilia had a bad look on her face, and her eyes were darkened. Girl, I swear that I am not cheating on you!!
While not being able to tell Cirilia this, I was dragged by Resoria to her room. Once inside, there were four maids, and it was a very high-class room. Rather than sit on the opposite couch, Resoria planted me right next to her on the same one.
Resoria: “Give us some tea and cookies, and then leave us.” She ordered.
Maid: “But… my lady, this person is an unknown…” She said before her words were cut off.
Resoria: “Selenia is my savior. I will not tolerate any disrespect toward her at all.” She said with a smile.
Her face was smiling, but it felt oppressive. Ah, so she is one of those kind of people that smile when angered? Good to know… People like this are hard to deal with. As it is annoying to try to figure out if she is happy, or angry. And now I am trapped in the same room as this woman that seems completely different from when I first met her…
