Chapter 11: Semi's Day.

Chapter 11: Semi's Day.

(Semi’s POV)

Cirilia acted differently around that curious girl, Selenia… Normally, Cirilia is deadpan most of the time, and is always serious. Which is a side of her that she rarely even shows to me. Funnily enough, even though she thinks that I cannot talk, she tends to talk to me in my dragon form.

Cirilia: “Semi… Am I weird?” She asked with an unsure tone.

Semi: “…”

I wanted to respond, but doing so would be a major error on my part. Cirilia has always confided in me. If she knew that I was the same person who was really her only friend, then our relationship would be null and void…

Cirilia: “Many men have flirted with me, but I never felt attracted to them. Private Selenia… Oddly, I find myself attracted to her.” She said with a sigh.

Semi: “…”

Cirilia: “Not her body! Don’t give me that look… I’ll admit that she is cute, but she is a child right now. For now, I am just attracted to her intelligence. I just hope that she can survive long enough for me to actually get her to date me…” She said with a thinking pose.

Semi: “…”

Cirilia: “People won’t accept it? Semi, the opinions of others aren’t my concern at all. Dragon knights are extremely rare, after all.” She said with a prideful tone.

She isn’t wrong about that… Most of us dragons know of each other, and there are only ten dragon knights in existence. Am not jealous of her attraction to Selenia, just worried… What if that little girl ends up dead? To me, Cirilia is a good friend, who I honestly see as my own daughter. I am hundreds of years older than her, after all.

Cirilia: “Maybe I should make up some reason to stick with her?” She said with an unsure tone.

Semi: “…”

That would almost ensure that Selenia will be safe, but I think that it would be the wrong choice. Selenia was nice, but she was clearly the kind of person that rarely trusts people. A timid girl that could easily kill countless people if given the chance…

In a way, Selenia is very similar to Cirilia. Like Selenia, Cirilia is almost crazed on the battlefield. Her absurd kill count is one of the reasons for her rank and sway over this kingdom. Cirilia isn’t even born from the Sarn family, but was adopted by them. I feel like Selenia might end up getting adopted by a powerful family as well. A match made in heaven, it seems…

Cirilia: “Do you think that I scared her too much?… She is very young, after all.” She said with a sigh.

Semi: “…”

Cirilia: “Oh, no… does she think that I am some old person!? I will only be turning 14 this year…” She said with a sad tone.

My cute friend kept ranting to me about her various bottled up thoughts, but we eventually made it back home to our main base. Fort Brigs was the biggest fort in this kingdom, so it was the place we used to plan the war out. As we landed, I greeted Cirilia with a smile on my face.

Semarica: “Hello, Cirilia. How did that investigation go?” I ask with a curious tone.

Cirilia: “It went well, Commander Semarica, there wasn’t anything wrong with the little girl.” She replied coldly.

Semarica: “That's it? No juicy details? How boring…” I reply with a disappointed tone.

Cirilia: “…”

The secret of my people, or rather, the reason why no one knows about it, is very simple. Split, my soul is split between my human form and dragon form. With the only downside being that my power is cut in half, this is the main reason why people think dragons are just animals.

Semarica: “I see that Semi is doing well.” I say as I jokingly pet myself.

Cirilia: “Yes, I do take good care of her, after all.” She replied once again with a cold tone.

Semarica: “Why so cold today, Lieutenant?” I ask with a hurt expression.

Cirilia: “If you want to speak casually, then it must be in private, Semarica.” She whispered into my ear.

With a giggle, I “ordered” Cirilia into my private room. Frankly, I have a lot to thank her for. Partly due to her achievements since joining the military at only 9 years of age, I was promoted along with her. It seems that the higher ups want me to always be in charge of her.

Cirilia: “Sema, can you please stop being so casual in public?” She asked with a sigh after I handed her some tea to drink.

Semarica: “I don’t think there is anything wrong with it?” I reply with a head tilt.

Cirilia: “So you say, but my family’s spies tell me all the time about how the people of this fort think that I am your wife.” She said with an annoyed tone.

Semarica: “Tell me who is spreading this rumor, and I will have them dismissed. I see you as a friend. Besides, I am almost thirty. I have no desire to be with a child.” I deny.

Cirilia: “It's fine, the rumors will stop eventually… Do you see me as a child, Sema?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.

Semarica: “Aren’t you and that Private Selenia the same? Your age is young, but your minds aren't. Regardless of your maturity, your age is still that of a child. I am not attracted to children.” I reply.

Cirilia: “Speaking of Selenia, might I watch over her?” She asked.

Semarica: “For what purpose? You didn’t mention anything about her being a spy, so I assume that she isn’t.” I reply with a raised eyebrow.

Cirilia: “She isn’t a spy, she answered all of my questions, so she is clear of any suspicions. Selenia is very young, so I want to make sure she actually survives.” She explained.

Semarica: “Lieutenant Cirilia of Alwessal’s military police is interested in someone other than her dragon? Color me intrigued…” I say with a laugh.

Cirilia: “…So will you grant my request?” She asked.

Semarica: “No, sorry. We need you to deal with Yentri while they are in panic. Selenia gave us a good chance to deal with them swiftly, so I want you to go deal with them right away. Even after that, we need you on standby.” I explain with a sigh.

Cirilia: “Understood… It should be nightfall soon, so going right now would be for the best. Don’t forget my request, as I will be constantly asking you about it.” She said before leaving the room.

Now, I am sure that she is going over to my dragon form, so that she and I can rain fire down upon our enemies. I feel bad for her and Selenia, but this is war, and we need to do our parts. Once it is over, I don’t care what Cirilia does. She could go fetch her wife whenever, at that point. As for this me, I have to do a job befitting my rank and title. Paperwork…

Oh? A letter? Let’s see what it says… Oh, no… They want us to pull out of this kingdom within a week!? Radahn’s fort will be the last to leave, so Selenia might be in danger… How will I explain this to Cirilia when she gets back?…
