Chapter 24: Slumming in the Slums.

(Selenia’s POV)

As I entered the capital, I felt a chill. It was pretty warm at the moment, but I oddly felt like someone had wronged me in some obscene way, completely unbeknownst to me, thus the chill…

Regardless, as I entered into the capital, I was met with some slum kids. I was still covered in blood, so my appearance scared the children, and they ran like their lives depended on it. I don’t look that scary, right?…

Brushing that insult aside, I went further into the slums. This place was worse than I thought that it would be. That is, from what Radahn explained about it to me. Eventually, I was stopped by ten people. They had various types of weapons, and their goal was clearly stopping me for some reason. Probably to rob me?

Selenia: “If you wish to stop me, please know that you will be forfeiting your lives.” I advise with a serious tone.

Random Man: “Just leave the knife and sword, little lady. We won’t hurt you, I promise.” He replied.

With a sigh, I drew my blade, and dashed at them. I am not evil, but I also don’t care if I have to kill a few people that get in my way. I mean, they should have stayed well away from me, just from seeing my bloodied appearance alone… In only a few minutes, the men that stood before me were spread out lifeless on the ground.

I tried my best to not cause much damage to their bodies, but there were guts, gore, limbs, and blood all over the place. Using the shirt of one of the men, I cleaned my blade off. Looking forward once more, I saw a little girl staring at me. From her eyes, I could see that she wasn’t afraid of me at all. What is her deal?

Little Girl: “Miss? Can I ask you a question?” She asked.

Selenia: “You just did.” I reply with a giggle.

Little Girl: “…”

Selenia: “But yes, what do you want to ask me? Please make it quick. I have a kingdom to take over, after all.” I say with my arms crossed.

Little Girl: “Alright… Games, anime, manga, planes, cars, trains, smartphones…” I quickly covered up her mouth.

Selenia: “Are you trying to alert the whole goddamn world that you’re a reincarnater!?” I exclaim in a whisper.

Finding another reincarnater like me was weird, but nothing too special. Cirilia lied about being a child genius like me, but I don’t think that Cirilia reincarnated into this world. The reason was pretty simple, as she never questioned why her regal dragon, Semi, didn’t talk to her. Anyway, those young geniuses were most likely reincarnaters like me, with Cirilia being an outlier.

Hani: “My name is Hani, what is yours?” She said with a smile.

Selenia: “My name is Selenia. Now, I cannot promise you much, but at the very least, I will bring you with me to somewhere safe.” I reply.

Hani: “What is your goal here, anyway?” She asked.

Selenia: “To take over this kingdom is my goal.” I reply.

Hani: “You want to take over this kingdom? Why?” she asked with a curious tone.

Selenia: “Well, they left themselves open for take over, and this kingdom produces tons of crops per year. Gaining it would be a very good boon.” I answer.

Hani kept asking me questions as we walked, and I kept answering them for her. She was ecstatic to be able to have a conversation with someone that was from a world similar to hers. After walking for an hour, we came to a brothel.

Hani: “…” She said nothing, but Hani hid behind me.

Selenia: “What’s wrong?” I ask.

Hani: “This place is a brother, Selenia! What if they force us to work here?” She replied with a hurried and nervous tone.

Selenia: “They won’t. Besides, this is where you will be staying until I come back to get you.” I explain.

Hani: “…”

Selenia: “The owner will help me out. Don’t worry, you won’t have to work. They will just protect you.” I say while rubbing her head.

She was still nervous, so I held her hand while we entered the brother. Once inside, the smell of sex and drugs filled the air. Going to the counter, I saw a young woman manning it.

Woman: “Hello, what can I help you with? If it is for work, please forgive me, but you two are far too young to work here.” She asked.

Selenia: “We aren’t here for work. Please inform Madam Besta that I need her help. Take this emblem as proof of my identity.” I reply before handing her an emblem.

Her eyes went wide, and instead of informing Besta first, she just quickly guided us to her private room. Knocking on the door, she went in first to inform Besta about us. As for the emblem, it depicted the guild that Saya belonged to. Despite how nonchalant Saya is, her guild was highly respected practically throughout the entire world. They gave me this emblem on loan, and told me about the people within Tarina’s capital that would help me out if I showed them it.

Besta: “I see that the guild is expanding their operations… Hiring a child.” She said with a sigh.

Selenia: “I am not with them, just a friend of theirs. Anyway, I won’t ask for much, just protect Hani until I came to pick her up.” I ask.

Currently, we were sitting down on a meh feeling couch. No tea was offered, which kinda ticked me off. Though, rather than being rude, it was most likely because tea is actually very expensive, and they don’t have any. I can’t believe that I took my food and all the tea I drank at the fort for granted… Radahn clearly spoiled me, but I didn’t even notice…

Besta: “And what do you have to do in this city?” She asked.

Selenia: “Currently, I am in the process of taking it over. I can’t watch Hani while doing so, and I needed a safe place to leave her at.” I reply.

Besta: “So… that army outside is your doing?… I owe the guild many favors, but I will only accept protecting the girl if you promise to not have me killed once you take this kingdom over.” She said with a serious tone.

Selenia: “I have no intentions of doing such a thing. The guild says that you’re very useful. In fact, you’re one of the main reasons this take over is going so well. You did give them a lot of information, after all.” I reply with a smile.

Besta: “…Fine, I accept. Just please don’t kill anyone else in the slums. I will forgive the ten you killed, as they didn’t know who they were dealing with. I’ll inform the others to not mess with you as well.” She agreed with a sigh.

Selenia: “Alright. Now then, little Hani, please wait patiently until I finish my task.” I say while rubbing her head once more.

Hani: “You don’t have to treat me like a child… And, yeah. I will wait for you, Selenia.” She replied with a pout.

With that, I left Hani in Besta’s care. If Besta betrays my trust, I will surely hunt the woman down to the ends of the earth. Was this planet even called earth?… Damn. I really need to learn how to read, and I also need to read a bunch of history books about this world and its people. But that is a problem for the future. Now, I will just focus on “liberating” this capital!
