Chapter 46 - All I Had to Say

Chapter 46 - All I Had to Say

“Is the Matriarch not coming?” Charles asks with some disappointment. He had come today with three Vampire Princes; they were willing to accept what was necessary but they didn't want to be pushed around.

“I'll be representing the Axel family today.” Maggie says from across the table, ready to do business. She was here with Taylor and Sylvie; the Axel family trusted Maggie's ability and they were confident that the other side didn't dare to take advantage of their family. “First things first; timeframe. How long do you expect this alliance to last? Because if it’s just to stem the tide, this conversation can end here.” Maggie says, expecting no bullshit.

Some sweat begins to drip from Charles’ forehead. He chuckles awkwardly and the three Vampire Princes didn’t know what to say. “Of course we were expecting something more long-term.” Charles says with a smile. Or at least until we find the materials for the Vampire King ritual… Charles thinks secretly.

“And what does long-term mean to you exactly? As you should know, a couple hundred years isn’t exactly a full life for people like us.” Maggie says, seeing their hesitation.

“How does a thousand years sound? We’re fully prepared to commit to that.” One of the Vampire Princes confirms, causing some sideway glances from the others.

Charles stares blankly before deciding to follow the trend. “Yes, a thousand years. But any more than that isn’t really worth it.” He says, hoping to slow the momentum.

“It’s agreeable. Now; each side’s responsibilities and the scope of the cooperation we can offer…” Maggie says as she opens up her laptop to take some notes.

“And that’s my queue. My part here is done. Sylvie, let’s go?” Taylor asks, signalling for them to leave.

“Be a man, Taylor. I’m not going to leave my sister here by herself. Just sit tight and relax.” Sylvie says with an admonishing tone.

Taylor sighs and slumps in his chair. “Fine…” He says in defeat.

“I think that about hashes out the details. I’ll send a summary of what we covered today to everyone present and the necessary parties. If anyone has anything further to add we can refine what’s necessary in our next meeting. Hopefully, we’ll have approval from both sides at the end of the month.” Maggie says, intent on concluding the session.

“Wait a second. I have something to bring up.” Taylor says, almost forgetting about this matter.

One of the Vampire Princes raises an eyebrow. What could he possibly have to add? He asks himself with a hint of disdain for Taylor’s fifth stage cultivation.

“What is it?” Charles asks, hoping Taylor wouldn’t say anything dumb.

“You guys need to take Daryl back. It’s not good for him to be without a family. Especially without one that has all the secrets to his bloodline.” Taylor says, making his stand.

The Vampire Prince next to Charles leans in. “Who is this Daryl?” He asks quietly with a hint of curiosity.

Charles sighs. “He’s our most recent initiate. He has previously abandoned the family for a woman from the Raw Blade tribe.” Charles explains.

“I see.” The Vampire Prince says as he leans back into position. “It’s no matter. He can come back, as long as he’s willing to follow the rules of our family.” He says, confirming their decision.

“Awesome. That’s all I had to say.” Taylor says with a smile.
