Chapter 36 - Owe You For This One

“Damn. I could go for a cigarette.” Taylor says as he relaxes his sweaty body.

“Well, you can't smoke in here.” Amelia says, a short distance away. She had something on her mind and wasn't quite in the mood to cuddle.

“Okay.” Taylor says with a smile, letting the room drift into a peaceful silence.

“So… Since we, you know, did the deed, I was wondering… What do I need to do to become a vampire?” Amelia asks boldly.

Taylor's eyes widen a little. “You want to become a vampire? Why?” He asks, curious.

Amelia sighs before telling her story. “When vampires used to be fiction, I romanticized the idea. They were powerful beings hiding in society, and only a select few were chosen to become a part of their family. When you were in, it would be a whole new world, everything would be yours for the taking, and you wouldn’t have to worry about your mortality any longer. I used to dream about a vampire knocking on my window, asking me to invite him in; and as a reward, he would take care of me, bite into my neck and give me a gift I couldn’t refuse. And then…” She says, her words dwindling.

“And then?” Taylor asks, intrigued.

“And then I found out that vampires were real! So now, I want in; I want to be a vampire and make my dreams come true.” Amelia says with determination.

Taylor smiles, very amused. “I thought you hated vampires?” He asks, a hint of teasing in his voice.

“As a human being, I hate vampires. But I can’t deny that I’m jealous; the power, the lust, the satisfaction. I want it all. As a human, you can only stand far afar and curse, but as a vampire, you get to join the party.” Amelia says before turning to Taylor, longing in her eyes. “So I want you to turn me into a vampire.” She says, confirming her choice.

Taylor smirks. “I, personally, can’t turn you into a vampire. But as they say, seek and ye shall find. There is a way of getting it done, but becoming a vampire isn’t as easy as you think. There’s a very good chance you’ll die, or maybe I should say, there’s a very good chance you’ll fall. Not everyone can climb those steps. The path isn’t easy.” He says with a hint of warning.

“I don’t care. I’m willing to make the leap. You can’t change my mind.” She says willfully.

Taylor sighs. “Making the leap… What ominous words… Okay, I’ll make the call.” He says before finding his pants and grabbing his phone.

The phone rings a few times before its answered.

“I can’t believe you’re calling me. Do you think we’re currently on speaking terms!?” Charles says over the phone, not trying to hide his anger.

“Charles, my buddy, my pal. Okay, I’m sorry about before. I overreacted. But you have to admit, my response was reasonable. That was my family you touched.” Taylor says without shame.

“Fuck you, Taylor. Just spit it out. What do you want?” Charles says, sounding very tired.

“I, ugh, want to call in that favour.” Taylor says, cringing as the words leave his mouth. What he was saying was very presumptuous and he knew it.

“What fucking favour, Taylor!? As far as I know, whatever favour I owed you was thrown away with that fucking slap! You fucking asshole!” Charles says without consideration. He was in the right and he knew it.

“Okay, okay. Relax, Charles. Let’s just put it all behind us. Let’s say, I’ll owe you for this one? C’mon, how ‘bout it? Are we cool?” Taylor coaxes, trying to appease what he could.

“Fuck. Fine, Taylor. What do you want?” Charles says with a breath, trying to regain his cool. He was still not in a place to offend Taylor, and regardless of whatever their previous friendship was worth, a favour from Taylor could still be very useful.

Taylor lets out a breath. “Got a girl here. She wants to turn. I was hoping you guys would be the ones to do it. As far as I’m concerned, your bloodline is still one of the best around. And I sure as hell wouldn’t give her to Hanz, unless she was a psychopath or she had an unwavering faith in herself. Even then, I’d still make the attempt to push her onto you.” Taylor explains.

Charles lets out a sigh. “Fine. We need all the vampires we can get anyways.” He says, accepting the deal.

“Alright. But I don’t want any of that shit with Daryl. I don’t want her to jump in headfirst with no fucking idea what’s going to happen. I want her prepped and tutored; and if at any point before making the leap she wants to back out, I want you to let her.” Taylor says sternly. This had to be part of it, otherwise he couldn’t allow it.

“Yeah, yeah. Fine. It’s a whole new world anyway. We’re not too worried about guarding the process. Just send her over when she’s ready. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m tired of listening to your bitchy voice.” Charles says before ending the call.

Taylor smirks and turns to Amelia.

“Well?” She asks with some expectation.

“I’ll text you an address. You can go when you’re ready.” Taylor says with a smile.
